Simple and fun medium swing jazz blues jam track in D minor!
Tempo = 120 BPM
Chord progression:
II: Dm7 I Dm7 I Dm7 I Dm7 I
I Gm7 I Gm7 I Dm7 I Dm7 I
I Bb7 I A7 I Dm7 I Em7b5 A7 :II
On the track, you will hear extensions of these chords - as is common in jazz of course :)
Scale suggestions:
D minor pentatonic scale - D F G A C
D minor blues scale - D F G G# A C
D minor scale - D E F G A Bb C
Bb7 chords :
Bb Lydian Dominant - Bb C D E F G Ab
A7 chords:
D harmonic minor scale - D E F G A Bb C#
Or
Treat it as an altered chord and use the altered scale:
A altered scale - A Bb C C# Eb F G
The altered scale is the mode which starts on the 7th step of the melodic minor scale, so in other words - the notes of A altered scale are the same as those of Bb melodic minor scale :)
Arpeggios:
Dm7 - D F A C
Gm7 - G Bb D F
Bb7 - Bb D F Ab
A7 - A C# E G
Em7b5 - E G Bb D

Hey Quist...love the jazzy blues! I saw a image of Quist/jazz tee shirt but, tell me...where can I buy one?
I went to the web site but couldn’t find them.
Btw, as a fan of yours, when are you coming to Southern California to play? I live in San Diego and there are two
Intimate venues: the House of Blues and the other one is Belly-up.
:)) Thank you. Working on US dates this year! The jazz tee is here www.designbyhumans.com/shop/t-shirt/men/pooping-unicorn/831470/
thanks....now please do a gig in San Diego!
this is an excellent jam track! Can I use this to just jam too out in front of my apartment or do I have to buy it?
Great tone on your playing at the beginning.
Leave’s me hungry for more, nice progression and pleasing, opens door for lots of improvisation.
:)))
man this is so underrated
I just love looking out the window listening to this great sound👏👏👏🌎
Dynomite Backing track!
Unbelievable, great, thanks so much 🤩🙏👍❤️
Love when you make jazz tracks. Really high quality. Personally not a fan of the moving chords on screen. Preferred the static shot of the chord progression if there's gonna be a picture at all but it's no big deal. I shouldn't be looking at the screen to remember the chords any way so maybe it's a good thing.. wait actually.. yeah no I don't like the scrolling chords.. I dunno I'm hella twisted right now dawg.. appreciate you! You're the man! Track sounds great!
Thank you buddy, so good of you to supply us with free backing tracks, God bless ya!!!
Thank you so much Quist!! This track is just too cool for words!
I love that u play jazz on a strat. Rules are made to be broken, besides it sounds great!
:)))
This one was really nice! Been jamming for a solid 15 minutes with much enyojment, Thanks Quist.
awesome
Amazing !
🙏
¿ Easy ? delicatessen. B.B. Quist siempre llega.
very nice!
Great playing buddy !
thanks sir!
Muito boa. Eu toco minha cromática C com sua base. Obrigado
Another great backing track. I always work towards eventually hearing chords changes, rather than seeing them on the screen. However, if you don't know the chord progression or how many bars for each, then seeing is great when starting to practice. The best visual for me is seeing all chords on the screen at the same time and highlighting each chord as it passes by.
d min -- the saddest of all keys
hehe
Thanks for sharing this... Coming from Jason Ricci Channel...
Another great track! Thank you Quist.
I'm having so much fun with this track. It locks in my head and good stuff just seems to come from my flute. Thank you very much.
I love these jazzy ones!!!! Sooo much fun.
Awesome! Happy jamming 🙌
Nice playing but this isn't a backing track - please change the title.
Erm, yes it is. Thanks though
Darn, no one told me. Just been jamming on chromatic harmonica on this for 10 minutes. How did I do that? 🙂
i am more a blues man but im slowly diggin in jazzy things like this, and this is really helpfull! thanks man! best wishes from Argentina. Keep it up.
