I really appreciate taika because he talks about casting himself as the dad and his reasoning could be considered “selfish” or he was just trying to promote himself but after watching boy I could not imagine anyone else playing his character. He’s so likable that boy is my favorite movie of his because he chose to put himself on screen for most of the movie. Damn I love the guy

If you watch his interviews on Hunt For The Wilderpeople he's quite calm sitting next to Jullian. Also he does measure his behavior up to the people he's with. He is calmer around calm people (or people he wants to keep calm) and more loud with others that attract that behavior. On his own... he's just crazy! James seems a bit quiet and this being his first film must be nervous. Having a crazy, funny, jumping up and down Taika next to him probably wouldn't help...
Harlina Indra it’s common with what marvel studios has been doing especially with Kevin Feige as the creative director of the storylines it was Joss Whedon’s work with character development that got him the job for avengers and James Gunn’s comedic timing that got him the job for guardians (which he was unjustifiably fired from in my opinion) but anyway I’m getting off topic they are more interested in originality and quality instead of quantity and fame.
I just watched this for the first time. What an intense film. Taika did extremely well, since he made me dislike Alamein. I understand that his character is layered, but it was hard to watch the interactions he had with Boy. Overall, this was a fascinating and eye opening movie.
