Exactly, and that’s why I’m the black sheep of my family. Because I don’t care who you are if you treat me like shit I’ll just get you out of my life. And no i don’t care if you are bad mean person I don’t want you in my life🤷🏻♀️ I don’t like when people feel entitled to do whatever they want and expect to be treating with respect like no thank you. I won’t just give you just cuz you are “family” or dying not
I'm afraid of consequences I will give to my family. I know I'll run away from their home and move to another country. I feel so guilty because I don't want my family to feel upset and depressed about me. I know they love me but it's more of conditional love which sucks. I know they will never accept me and I'm the black sheep of my family.
Mel B i know but if he had not been a terrible father and evil human the boys would never have run away and Steve wouldn’t have died... that’s why shaun blames him for.
I love how Dr. Glassman silently stands there and simply listens as Shawn is talking, he patiently allows Shawn get it all off his chest and calmly walked away when Shawn storms out of the room. He makes no excuses or explanations, he sees the truth and excepts it unlike Shawn’s own mother.
I agree. Glassman wasn't perfect and he made some mistakes, but unlike his father, Glassman loved Shaun and tried his best, would never try to hurt him, and advocated for him whenever possible.
@Sharon Jensen Yes. I am lucky my mom was a psychiatrist with a degree in child development. She was a good parent for me. She knew how to raise me and handle me, with autism.
I find it funny how the father apologizes because he didn't get the children that he wanted he got a child who needed a little more attention and instead he took it out with rage Shaun had every right to be angry
Right?? Like. You had 2 kids and 1 of them didnt have autism. You couldve done all those things with your younger son and then were caring to the oldest
Well that's life we dont all get to be happy. As a Hindu maybe its Karma. If you where a better person than you would not be suffering. Also I was born premature 27 weeks have learning difficulties. And a load of problems. Yet I drink alchoal wine beer I'm a fan of different beer and wine it's more a hobby . I'm not too found of Sports or Hunting animals for sport seems petty. Or outdoor crap. I think suffering is a good thing it opens you up it makes you realize the world is not about getting a good job being healthy and dieing out. Completely unaware of the pain and suffering of others. Unlike shawn dispite my premature birth or long term disability my father and I are extremely close.
Agreed. It’s not a sincere apology. It’s more complaint/justification. Too many children of abusers are left wondering what’s wrong with them, what did they do wrong, why are they not good enough to deserve kindness, comfort, security and respect from their families. At least he admitted that Shaun is a good person. Just “not what he really wanted” in a child.
I like how they took an incredibly fit man who’s obviously in the best shape of his life and has thick wavy luscious locks, put a little grey makeup on him and said ‘yo, this guy’s dying’
Love how people think if you’re dying that suddenly all the terrible things you’ve done are forgiven. That peace and forgiveness is a right to have when you have because you are dying
My father died last year and my family told me to forgive him, that shit ain't happening, if he wanted forgiveness he should've asked for it when he was still on this Earth, he can ask God for forgiveness but he's not getting anything from me.....
Everyone acting shocked at his outburst makes me really angry. Yeah, he's a quiet kid - which in no way means he is devoid of emotions. And so you don't get to expect him to be forgiving after suffering a childhood of abuse.
Shaun’s mom acts like a school teacher. She doesn’t care when a kid is being abused, but considers the kid standing up for himself an avengers level threat. Edit: Ma I’m famous
@@Lily-gz3ip I know when someone is so in love you can blinded with love like Shaun's mother she was probably blinded with love that made her failed to see how abusive and a monster her husband was sometimes other people are desperate for love and relationship for a man I'm not justifying or defending Shaun's mother tho cause it's not excuse to let her husband treat your son like crap
@Sharon Jensen and they should we should hold ableist accountable no matter who they are no matter who they are targeting ( age group gender sexuality race ). Anybody suddenly saying sorry on their deathbed isn't really sorry. They're scared. Terrified of what might come next and they're scrambling for forgiveness out of pity.
Shaun's mom needs to take several seats because she did nothing to protect her kids so she's to blame for Shaun's rabbit dying and Steve's death as well.
He is proud of his son's achievements while Dr. Han himself will be always grateful for the father figure that made him the man he is today. Their relationship is something we all should lookup to.
I honestly don't blame Shaun for how he feels. If his dad wasn't so abusive and if the mom tried to protect her kids, Steve would still be alive. Shaun is better off without his parents. Steve was the only one in the family that truly loved him
Ryan Lee but think about it, in the moment where you have to deal with something hard, you want your family with you. he took lea and glassman. he has built a new family and he’s happy with what he has and I think that’s very telling. he has done everything for himself, he’s stronger than both of his parents and he’s HAPPY. just because he doesn’t have his biological parents, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have family that truly loves him
@Over Drive We can clearly see in a flashback, that he doesn't accept Shon's Illness. Beating your kids doesn't make them stronger/thougher either. He just never accepted Shaun, the confirm comes later in ths episode too.
Over Drive that’s absolute bull shit you don’t beat your child to make them tougher that’s causes way more problems for them and next thing you’ll be wondering is why there mass murders or alcoholics that’s why they got beat at home hope you don’t have kids
Yup been there. Had my entire family in my ear disrespecting me telling me to get over the abuse I faced at the hands of my father. I saw my father on his death bed and said goodbye for the last time. He had the nerve to ask me why I was so bitter. I walked away from him and those family members. I deserved better and in that moment I chose me.
bbria28 it’s important to forgive though. I forgave my mother, I just accept she’s crazy and try not to get bitter over it just don’t talk to her anymore and haven’t since I was 22
Alexis Bee I’m not talking about living I’m saying abuse really just isn’t something to be forgiven. Would you forgive your mom if she killed someone you loved?
It really bothers me to see that horrified expression on his mother's face and hearing her tell Shaun to calm down when he's expressing how he's feeling. I really don't even want to use the word 'mother' to describe her because she really wasn't one. It's sad to think about how differently Shaun's and his brother's lives would have played out if that woman had protected her children the way she's protecting her abusive, alcoholic husband.
Things like this happens all the time. And, even when i'm agree with you. I also know she is a victim to. And the way she is now its what abusive people or relationships do. That changes you and you dont even see it.
Sick and tired of people treating others like shit for their entire lives and suddenly coming to their senses only when they're dying, expecting to be forgiven. And those who were victims, those who were bullied and broken down and are kind and good end up being the ones supposed to forgive out of pity towards these dying ones; they shouldn't get to die in peace when they put everyone through a living hell during their existences.
But then they would become like that person, so it best to forgive and be that bigger and better person that they are..I do not agree with not forgiving someone, love is the more powerful than of it all, if no one forgive then the cycle just keep on turning, kind and loving people then becoming that same old bitter person.. so no forgive and keep on having a clean heart and mind, knowing you have that peace within you to not too be nasty like that nasty person who could give a care for another, only when they are in need or dying. With that being said, "Peace be still."
@@kelliecarter8376 Sorry but no. Forgiveness has no value when everyone deserves it, it must be earned. Also denying forgiveness to those who literally did nothing to prove they've changed does not make you like them. At all. You can't even begin to compare the 2 things. And it's not about being a better person or having the higher ground or whatever it is, the reality is that when you forgive someone you put your trust in them, you trust them not to betray you again or at least to have learned from their mistakes so that you will never have to pay AGAIN the price of their errors or negligence. Those errors, mistakes, negligence many times scar other peoples for life in ways none can even begin to understand, those who are asked for forgiveness often are well aware that they could not survive another betrayal. That's why forgiveness becomes a luxury for those who have not spent their entire life trying to put together pieces of something someone else broke.
Shaun was right. He’s a terrible person. In a way, the father looks like he’s sad and remorseful about what he’s done. He got no words wrapped up like a gift from Shaun though. Shaun told it how it was and he had every right to do so.
This was better than the original drama in terms of the father. In the original he didnt even apologise or say he was proud. Just called him a brat and selfish every 3 seconds till he died lol.
I mean it's not fully his fault. As we can see he is an old fashioned man. He doesn't know how to raised a... What's the right word.. A challenged young boy. His father clearly regrets everything he did to Shaun thus explaining the drinking. And his dad clearly had no idea how to raise a kid with autism. I'm not defending his dad he is a really shitty person. But as his dad said he want a normal son and he didn't get what he wants but he can't blame anyone hence making him feel angry. You can't just put the blame on one party without seeing it at the perspective of the other party. That's how the Cold War started

I don't really think he wanted to say it because he wanted pity from his son The way I see it I think he just saw it as his last chance to apologize and he took it. sure that doesn't justify anything he did at all but I really don't think that he wanted pity I think he just wanted to finally say sorry.

Parents, learn from this. Sure, you can treat your kids however you want when they’re young but remember this: it WILL have consequences. "Calm down?" No, Shaun has a right to his feelings here. I thought it was so brave of him to be able to say all of that. I don't know if I could have. Kudos to the writers and actors. Been watching from the start and this is one of the best shows out there.
The dad did nothing to give Shawn a reason to forgive him, he didn't write him letters, he didn't come visit or anything. Only on his dying bed does he apologized. Sarashi Xaenyth - have you seen the end of this episode? Because I’m not fully convinced that his father is as sincere as he might seem here. And why apologize so close to the end now? Why not when he first found out he was dying? I think his dad wanted a sense of relief before he died, a sense of everything being resolved (which is pretty common and natural). But you can’t resolve abuse in a meeting and it takes more than an apology to set that right
T. H. Think about it there are multiple possibilities as to why... 1. He probably lost contact with dr glossman for a long time and must have came across his number 2. Some people see differently when they know they are dying they watch their lives flash before there eyes like a projector things he regrets, wishes to say before his death, only sense i see is he reached out to his only son because deep down underneath that evil man he loves him, doesn’t make it right but he shined the most throughout this scene and he took shauns criticism with a grain of salt and letted it sink in his father was hurting when shaun said those words cause he knew he fucked up

Exactly..
whoah. you've said it all
But then they would become like that person, so it best to forgive and be that bigger and better person that they are..I do not agree with not forgiving someone, love is the more powerful than of it all, if no one forgive then the cycle just keep on turning, kind and loving people then becoming that same old bitter person.. so no forgive and keep on having a clean heart and mind, knowing you have that peace within you to not too be nasty like that nasty person who could give a care for another, only when they are in need or dying. With that being said, "Peace be still."
@@kelliecarter8376 Love didn't do much for this situation.

She told my mum my work was "horrible" (because I was drawing pizza slices to solve the fractions) and that I was "slow" because I had a habit of stimming. I am not cognitively slow, but struggle with things like sarcasm and sensory overwhelm. I remember crying on the car ride home.
Some people should not teach kids at all. I was later put into a different 2nd grade classroom where the teacher was really nice and I was left to read what I wanted. I ended up winning the reading competition for all grades...and my second teacher let me do what I wanted if I was not behind on any assignments. So I eventually stayed two weeks ahead in all the subjects and would bring science fiction books to school and read them.
More teachers need to be sensitive to sensory issues, anxiety disorders, and autism but this was in the early 90s and most people did not think females could be affected. (Unless they were completely non-verbal.)
Congratulations on proving your nasty teacher wrong, too!
I notice how a lot of abusive parents want to confront their behavior with their childrens in the past when they're about the die, but even when they're home, those mental scars are gonna be there. You dying doesn't make it hurt any less

Maybe he did realized in the end that he was wrong, but he had time to make up for it and wasted it, same for the mother.
(As and edited note) I too know what it's like to not have a good father especially if he's your step. I love this show and as one who has Aspergers, it inspires me to become better than ever.

dbzking02 listen to me okay: if you were that kind of man and you got older and realized the error of your ways and was dying would you reach out to your only son
1. He probably lost contact with dr glossman for a long time and must have came across his number
2. Some people see differently when they know they are dying they watch their lives flash before there eyes like a projector things he regrets, wishes to say before his death, only sense i see is he reached out to his only son because deep down underneath that evil man he loves him, doesn’t make it right but he shined the most throughout this scene and he took shauns criticism with a grain of salt and letted it sink in his father was hurting when shaun said those words cause he knew he fucked up
T. H. And to explain the ending people during death have good days and bad days this was his good day where he felt more wholesome and when he was visited again it was on his bad day you heard how he spoke he was more sick the last time shaun saw him
T. H. I know about these good day bad days seen too many people die of cancer and this is the cycle of it when a person is ready to leave
"But you were a good kid..."
"No...I was The Good DOCTOR."
Holy shit, peak writing (wasnt he a SURGEON tho?)
Shaun is still the most wholesome human being that I’ve ever seen even when he’s sad or mad
I told my mother the last time I saw her that I will dance on her grave when she dies. And I still haven't changed my mind on that fact. I hope I get this chance the way Shaun did. I like how they showed this so realistically. As someone who had an abusive parent I know how hard it can be to face them and to try and ‘get over’ what happened. I can’t forgive my ‘parent’ and that will never change. They really showed this well and I’m happy they didn’t just let him get away with this.
Such a powerful scene. I also love that (rightfully so) Shaun added in his own way that his father is responsible for the death of his brother as well. Even though that unlike the rabbit, Shaun’s father didn’t kill his brother directly and intentionally, his abuse still led to all the circumstances that ultimately led to it.
the fact that Shaun knows how to speak his mind with no barriers is absolutely authentic and brave. that is something to admire
shaun is just so precious and good, it makes me so sad to see him angry :(
If a parent was that bad to his kids he deserves what Shaun said.
People seem to misunderstand what being a parent is about,a parent is not the one that holds the title ,a parent is someone that acts like a parent and is loving and caring to his/her children, which also includes protecting your own and making sure they're safe
0DRippinG a parent always puts their kids needs b4 their own.
100%- Shaun is not the bad guy here. His “father” brought this all on himself. His “father” will be dying alone because of what HE has done.
