@@varunmishra22 you seem to be very undereducated so let me explain something. A tv show has actors playing different characters, almost every movie and tv show has a fake storyline and fake characters. You seem to think I feel bad for the actor but I feel bad for the CHARACTER. this particular character struggles with a disability that makes his life more difficult and overwhelming. You did NOT need to be rude and you could’ve just kept scrolling and ignored my comment but you just had to comment back and act like an ass because you’re so unhappy with your own life and your own stupid opinions. Just let people live their lives without your stupid input, because NOBODY CARES😘

Note :- Expired medicine doesn't mean that it was toxic or doesn't work.
If medicine is expired means it's efficacy might be low .
For example if medicine is supposed to be 100mg After expired it's efficiency could be 75-85% i.e. 75-85mg.
But no doubt to say , this was hopital manegment Negligebility , and they are punishable.

      You definitely should.
Might not go anywhere due to this being a medical shortage. The expired medication shouldn't have been administered, but making it live on site wouldn't have worked either.
This would constitute as a medical shortage.
It'd be the same problem as you needing anti-venom for a snake not local to the area. That's a more dramatic example but budget cuts for medications sounds heinous, but hospitals are both a government institution and a for-profit business depending on how it runs.
Makes suits for shortages difficult, since Murphy's literal "solution" wouldn't be a prescribed medication subject to rigorous standards, which creates a small legal clout.
The hospital would likely settle though, due to the fact they shouldn't have administered an expired medication and instead tried something else.
So you'd likely get a decent settlement, but of course nothing that'd rival the loss of a child. What that would be I don't know, but the hospital wouldn't be flipped over by it. That's a business expense. Of the 1000 medications they ought to have, it's cheaper to absorb 10 lawsuits than supply them constantly.
But the settlement likely wouldn't be more than 200k, if that. Malpractice by medication usually has to result in damages from the medication itself, not a medication that failed to protect from another condition. I.e. if you took an anti-venom and it caused your blood vessels to be damaged, that's a better suit. A life saving medication, even expired, didn't harm the person it just didn't correct their issue.
But there's still room for malpractice, just not as much as anyone would deserve. Probably 100k, settled out of court quietly, which would be subsidized by the government as a cost of business. If it's within their margins that year, the hospital won't even notice it.
... and there's a chance it'd be even less, depending on the state and the local government. They might argue you out the door if they're ruthless.
      Life kinda sucks.
But I'd certainly be filing too. It's just the win won't change much.

In the real world, Yes, pharmacy staff should be on top of things to ensure all medications are within expiry. However, drugs don’t lose all their potency when they expire. Expiration dates are based on studies done on the drugs for potency up to a certain date. If the potency and quality remain above an acceptable percentage (99%, 98%, 95%) at that date, it becomes the expiration date. Pharmaceutical companies do not need to continue expiration studies until the drug fails its potency. Drugs can retain potency (depending on storage environments for long after expiry but potency and quality aren’t guaranteed.

Expired medication means it’s no longer allowed to be on the shelf. You can technically take meds up to a year later and they are still fine. I know of an incident in which the person had an extremely bad back and recently had back surgery. But before that, because of doctors being too scared to prescribe heavy duty pain meds she has spent the last 5 or so years in agony. Her only relief has been a stash of pain meds she quit taking, not sure why. But she said the medication was 10 years old. I have no reason to doubt her word. I think drug companies do that so in case something does happen they can say they put an expo date on it so they’re guilt free!

...and I will do everything in my power to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.
But it already has. A woman lost her child because of neglect of a whole hospital. This is not something that can just be glossed over.

Wait, i thought expired pharmaceuticals aren't necessarily ineffective, just less effective? They don't spoil like food, right? So wouldn't it have been worth a try to use it anyway? Docs?

Nope. The dosage needs to be EXACT. Less medicine than optimal can actually be worse than no medicine at all - especially in a high-risk pediatric surgery. Shaun was fully in the right to go off on everybody. When you're so skilled at something that you can make miracles happen, seeing all your work undone because of incompetence can and will have that exact same effect. I'm not on the spectrum (AFAIK), but I feel Shaun's pain here. He did everything humanly - and, to a certain extent, superhumanly - possible, and still failed. Not because of bad luck, or because of a freak accident, but because of incompetence by OTHER humans in a profession where competence IS the minimum standard.

Honestly I think anyone in the same situation here would act the same way after what he went though. I know that he has autism which makes it harder for him to act normal. But this kind of failure is something that would break anyone. Wasn’t his fault but still
