I feel like Jim could have just used the time stone to revive all his dead friends or he could have just go to the beginning of the movie
If I was Jim, going to the beginning was still risky. People will always die with the Arcane Order being a threat.

@@katerinakostis2828 And? You do realize that just because a story ends on a sequel hook, that doesn’t automatically mean a sequel is planned or is happening, right? A lot of movies end on sequel hooks but they either don’t get them or the author isn’t planning one and just wanted an open-ended ending. This happens literally all the time.

@@ghosty5031Ya the best we can do is make the best out of the ending but doesn’t change how trash it is and Toby did learn even before he died he said he has learned so much from Jim and the others and just to rewind ⏪ that sucks plus everyone else had lives and that’s selfish to do and honestly I think the movie was good but it also had flaws like Steve being pregnant or Aja was acting kinda mean and the fight sene at the end was to short and could of been cool if Jim and Ducey teamed up and fought together or just a 1v1 between Jim and bel rock to me the whole movie felt rushed and undone because is truly was a disappointment
I love how when Claire is spent she tries to use her magic and the shoulder piece of her armor glows or when she make that huge portal it really glows 💜
Let me add to that theory! What if the beginning of the movie is in fact a reflection of the end? In other words, when Blinky (and Jim) begin their narration with "it begins like all stories do, a long, long time ago," it implies that the entire movie was a narration of what has already happened, allowing the start of the film to act as the success of the end (which is Jim's new timeline) ... :)

The ending was like a truly massive cliffhanger. Inviting huge amount of speculation.
I do not like when a series ends with a cliffhanger. They can in theory make another series about things going differently, it would be very interesting, but only for fans.
The ending made me depressed , I would have rather had toby die instead of him becoming the trollhunter... This video saved me , THANK YOU!
Yeah, me and my sister were kinda pissed since we never imagined Toby being the Troll hunter lol. But this made me feel a bit better.

after watching: I actually really like this theory. i feel like if they do wake merlin up earlier and Jim gets douxie on their side sooner than their original alliance in wizards, then merlin and douxie could make another amulet for jim. OR, they could get krel and eli to manufacture another one! we know they can make a working amulet because of what we saw in rise of the titans!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS THEORY!!!

Okay I'm convinced. If this is very true, then this is indeed an incredible ending. They can possibly add A SINGLE clip in the movie showing Jim holding the amulet in his hands. Maybe possibly Jim saying to himself: "Daylight is Now Ours To Command Tobes. ". Now THAT would be an absolutely AMAZING ending.preventing every death. It's like doing the battles a safer way. I made a theory like this yesterday but it was a bit different.
They just asked toby to take the amulet to jim because they knew he wouldn't accept it.
Honestly I think that makes more sense because there was that episode their “it’s a wonderful life episode” showing what would’ve happened if Jim never became the troll hunter, and it’s possible Merlin planned stuff out given he knew they did some time travel shenanigans already
no way! i thought of this with my bestie yesterday when we first watched it! we figured that maybe the amulet called to toby because it trusted him to bring it to jim. i would've liked if toby found the amulet but it still called to jim so then he could just say something like, "uh, jimbo? there's a glowing amulet that knows your name!" or something like that. i don't know i just like any of these ideas at this point. mainly the one he said in the video where there will be two trollhunters

I think that this would be a better ending:
Jim still has the new amulett, which means that there's two trollhunters now. They wake up Merlin and Jim tells him about everything. Merlin uses magic to restore everyones memories and character development. They defeat Gunmar and save everyone that would of died
But always remember time travel always have consequences that comes with time travel
I loved the movie I thought the ending was a bit disappointing

i am gonna be honest. I know this seems petty. but I am not really considering the ending as cannon yet. i have seen fanfics in comments which were better than the movie ending.

I really liked the ending and I really want Guillermo Del Toro to make a show or ROTT sequel so they can do a time heist to save everyone or maybe a Trollhunters season 4 in which the theory comes out being true

Ah i feel so stupid for not thinking about this theory Jim might still get a new amulet, every one will be spared, and also I feel stupid, for a moment I thought Jim was not gonna be a hero, with out the amulet, but then I remembered "the amulet didn't make me a hero, I already was"-Jim, I take back most of everything I said about the ending. You literally just saved me. I thought this ending absolutely trashed everything we ever knew, but I forgot to factor in the theories. If we go down this route, we need to have a follow up, another show or just a few shorts to confirm how exactly the timeline still functions because while I still hate it, it's left too open-ended to actually draw a fixed conclusion

I like this idea. I like that Jim might have the new amulet still, that Merlin planned for this to happen, but the fact that you had to make a video about it proves that there should have been at least a little more in the movie's ending. Maybe just a little peak at the new amulet. Like, the tip of if is sticking out of Jim's bag when he tells Toby to take the canals, at least this way it would lead into this theory/speculation. Right now, if you finish the movie and didn't watch this video, you just think that Jim gave the amulet to Toby.

The ending is not pointless, this is a different timeline! In this timeline, Jim wakes up at 8 o’clock, not 6 o’clock! And Toby was late to Jim’s house! So what happened is all still Canon!

As much as I appreciate this explanation, and it does make sense,
I still would like to see how this new timeline plays out. Like the whole timeline doesn’t have to be shown, there can just be progress with Toby being the Trollhunter and the past adventures mentioned,
BUT
I feel like myself and many other fans who enjoyed the series would like just a little bit more.
Who knows, this could be a Loki situation where Jim knows how everything happens and secretly helps a good ending come. I would love to watch that process because we might go through the same scenario where he had to explain to Claire that he’s a troll hunter except in this case he has to explain that he traveled into the past and changed the timeline. That’s on its own could create a completely different story line than the original!
The movie was amazing!!!! The ending was a slap in the face to the series. But you mentioning that the Jim has his amulet, that would change everything
I sat for about an hour thinking about the ending. I thought it was pretty good because it’s a second chance and it brings with it the hope that everything will be better. I would love to see a show that follows that story. But I feel that our imagination should be sufficient and that was a worthy send off for the entire franchise.

I think everyone remember everything happen since beginning but they think that's just a dream, a loooong dream. Because if you watch the ending again you would notice that Toby now can reach at top of rope and ring the bell but at Tales of Arcadia he didn't make it, and I have a bit suspicious about Claire because the way she look at Jim just like she know him for long time but at Tales of Arcadia she didn't even know he's exist.... That just speculation from me if you think it's true like this comment and if you think this doesn't make sense you can reply me.....
Guys, I thought of something that would make really good sense! So you know how in the start of the movie Jim says, “but without the amulet, am I still the trollhunter?” It sounds like it’s the end of the movie, but just in the future. Is it just me or does the ending of the movie animation and the start animation make the characters look similar. What I’m trying to say is in the movie itself, Jim and the others look way different then the starting and the end. Their skin is more clear the animation looks the same. They look nothing like in the original timeline. Maybe Jim is still the trollhunter without the amulet! Just my theory.
If an ending like this happened in a show I cared about, I would be pissed too.
Seems that Unkar's second chance proved useful to Jim in this New Game + ending. He didn't act awkward towards Claire and Toby, or went straight to Strickler about everything.
I was thinking that he might play behind the shadows this time around and guide the new Trollhunter on what to prioritize this time, maybe get Douxie early on too while going to Merlin.
Thank you for making this video. I just finished watching the movie and while I loved it, the ending really just left me going wtf. With your explanation/theory, it really helped me see the possibilities and makes me feel better about what we got. I REALLY hope they continue the story cause I wanna see where it goes! You are absolutely right, and about the people that are sad or angry because the relationship between Jim & Claire is now a re-start, watch the end again and you will see that Jim first thing to do is to get closer to Claire to begin their relationship again, only this time it will be kinda different but the feelings will be there again
But the same type of struggles and everything they went through won’t exist in that time, unless he tells them about what happened but it pains me to think that that’s not really Claire, it’s a different version of her in a different timeline. I’m sad man.
I'm sure everyone would love it more if we got to see the future ending where they prevented it from happening, jim and claire are still together, Toby's alive (and if only he can pass the amulet to jim), and they were all still friends. Thank you for this tho, I was sobbing (for reals) when I finish the movie and this made me a lil better. I do hope they gave a lil peak of the future cuz jim has been through so much, again and again so alot of people are sad seeing it go away even if the new timeline prevents em from happening. And if toby and jim becomes the trollhunters together that will make the show alot better. I rlly wished they ga ve a lil more then a cliffhanger (and tears/anger)
The Ending of Rise of the Titans is basically the ONLY flop Guiermo Del Toro has ever had... to my knowledge.

Trollhunters rise of titans was one of the best movie experiences i have ever had.
Ok, but what does the new situation mean for Jim and Claire? Will they still be on the same level their relationship was after defeating the Titans with Toby as the Trollhunter? Or will it just be "a relationship" to Claire without witnessing Jim going into the Darklands, risking his life for her multiple times, etc.?
Anyway, thanks so much for making this video. I was depressed about the new ending, but now I'm feeling a LOT better.
Think of the ending this way: Toby has already been the troll hunter as well. Check and see certain things that Toby says during the entire movie of rise of the Titans: train brake break scene, I’ll always be by your side scene, and Toby dying and fine with it scene. I believe Toby and Jim are stuck in alternating time loops

I love your explanation so much, you make me love the ending now and in a sense way, so it does makes sense that Jim has his amulet with him when he time travel.
I am now less furious and disappointed, however, I do wish this was better communicated (yknow if this is the route that is indeed being taken). It also doesn't fix everything, but it is much better than what I interpreted from my first 2 watches of the movie.

The ending is basically a Fanfiction writers dream. Anything can happen differently. Right now it’s open to your mind to figure out what comes next.
Even though "officially" there are no plans of more Troll Hunters series or movies....I'm hoping😁 with the way things ended that it leaves it open to start another one (probably depending on how many people watch Rise of The Titans and people's reaction). I just like being optimistic.😁 Who knows...maybe within the new series since Jim can rewrite history...so can we...we can pick what happens next then the series or movie continues that way.

Honestly, if that's what the authors planed, that would be the only reason I could like the movie's ending which I hate so much so far.
I wonder what it would be like if this new timeline is where the whole trilogy would actually begin, and then at the end of the series it would show that Jim knew everything, which would be the cause of all their victories. It would probably make less sense but would also make me less sad, since the first timeline is the place that I was really fond of, and I felt sad when Jim erased that particular timeline according to coolcraft's and your theory. They better make a sequel to this to show all of this speculation come to life. Because a lot of ppl are hating and I understand but I think ppl need to know what is happening in this new timeline to love TROTT and realize the end left the door of opportunity open and does not erase everything Jim did in the the Trollhunters series but instead had both Toby and Jim able to fight together and with the knowledge that Jim has they will be able to prevent many problems that happen in Arcadia.

it is now my headcanon is that Jim did not travel thru time but only made a copy of his consciousness from the ending moment was sent to his past self in a branching timeline. I think this idea could work, Blinky is the one telling the story of the events of the movie (or at least I think that's what the opening meant) so that could mean the timeline we know was not entirely erased.

1 tiny thing they could've done to make the ending solid would be to have showd a snipit, even if it was 1 frame, of jim still having the amulet . Even if at a camera angle his pocket glowed.

I think they should have learned with the Flash series that time traveling to make everything perfect again doesn’t work...
I rewatched the ending and think that not just Jim but Toby may have also kept his memories. Yeah I know that Nari said only the Trollhunter will know but if you pay attention to his reactions and facial expressions after Jim went back you might see what I mean.
Oh my gosh I’m freaking out and couldn’t think of any other way to tell you this buuuut I believe Toby becoming the new Trollhunter wasn’t a spur of the moment decision, I think they have been planning it since the beginning and hinted at in Becoming pt 1, gnome thy enemy, battle of the two bridges and our final act. I put this theory up in the Heartstone Troll market discord or you can just rewatch those episodes while paying attention to Toby

The movie ending only work and the speculation only works if we the audience are allowed another movie or season to see these results. Be they confirming Jim's actions or proving his gambit wrong. If not then we have to accept the ending as what if scenario, which is part of what makes it terrible.

I loved this series and this movie is everything I wanted it to be. I was at first confused and disappointed with the ending, and after watching this video I can understand why this ending happened. The only thing for me is he is going to have to rebuild his relationships, especially with Claire since they won't have the life and death experiences that boosted there love for each other. But at least he knows how not to be an idiot with her and who knows, maybe he'll find some way to import memories or something idk. Anyway just my thoughts, great video!
They should have ended it with a cut to 5 years later with Claire and Jim getting married on the cliff where the end of troll hunters was and Toby as Jim’s first man
If Jim actually has his version of the amulet then is is a good ending, but if he doesn't then I feel like the writers just wasted 5 years of my life.

Everyone thing you said made sense like a ton of sense but if what your saying is actually what the director had in mind then I bet you this won’t be the end of tales of Arcadia I know Guillermo del toro said it would be the end but hear me out what if he meant that rise of the Titans would be the last tales of Arcadia movie/series he will direct plenty of movie directors say it’s gonna be the end of the series or show or movie but then we end up seeing another season or a new movie of the show so I don’t really think this is the end because there’s a lot more to the end of rise of the titans and hold on don’t go past my comment yet remember when Jim said “he would save all of those who fell in battle and then he also promised to return back” and as you all should no Jim tries to keep his promises he said that in episode 13 season 1 of trollhunters at the Romeo and Juliet play but anyways if Jim promised to return then he’s definitely coming back to all of the guardians of Arcadia but if this truly is the end I wish the best for all of the cast of tales of Arcadia :)
That is a very good point! Maybe this is just the end of Tales of Arcadia, but not the end of the story of these characters. That makes sense!

I got a question is Netflix doing a new series about Trollhunters With Toby going to be the new Trollhunter I hope this does become true with Jim getting his enemies to be on his side to make a army to stop the Titans. And I hope Aja and Steve's gets back together on the new series if it does happen.

No matter what happen the time can't change, how many time Jim change the timeline and toby become trollhunters, it will be the same. Arcane order will hunt all of it including gunmar son and gunmar that still alive. Maybe this is not the ending, maybe it's just the beginning to the new era or there will be something bad happen and Jim got punish for mess up the timeline
I think this was the end like that’s it. This show is forever done, I loved the series but the end when Tobey died and Jim going back in time. That’s it the show is over… I’m speechless I loved the show but i don’t know what they are planning it left me like when I watched end game but marvel is making shows now I’m Disney who knows if troll hunters are getting other types of shows like 3 below or wizards…
The one thing I don't like is there is less action in your theory. I like them fighting the arcane order. I think they should still put up a fight and it will still be hard to kill them and claire needs to trap morgana too. And also, then they can travel back to the present. Perfect.
The amulet actually can choose people out of Necessity. As shown when the amulet shows Jim what would have happened without him being the main player of the events. Toby was only choosen because he was there. Hell Jim will defeneitly still be the maim player because as Merlin's amulet told him he was the true troll hunter. Every toll hunters were just chosen so to keep the mission alive until Jim could be the troll hunter
The only stupid thing about his knowledge is he won’t remember everything after years.
Blinky says at the end of ROTT ``I will see you again, James Lake Jr. Somewhere, sometime, Our story will continue.`` So maybe this isn't the end? but who knows :) (Also some of the other characters give little hints to things that might happen in a future\future series?)
