OKAY! Some exciting news this week! We got a report about the Quest Pro line returning in the form of the Quest 4 Pro.. but I think more importantly we got an update on the Meta Quest 3 Lite. The True replacement for the Quest 2 as the entry level device AND for a crazy price.
Plus Nintendo VR headset news a ton of amazing research and a spiritual successor to Echo Arena is on its way from the Gorilla Tag developers!
I hope you enjoyed this week of VR news! Lots of exciting stuff. - Наука та технологія
What did you think about Quest 3 "lite" or whatever it may be called? Also!
I never thought it'd be possible but here we are! Thank you to Sidequest for sponsoring this video. Always been such a fan of what they do for VR. They're giving away a Quest 3 EVERY WEEK until XMAS this year on their new physics base Social VR app Banter. Check it out!: sidequestvr.com/app/10831/banter-public-beta?

idk bro. I'm just in for the meta quest three socks
Quest 3 pro
Nah bro is the oculus go 3.0
I think it's a great idea for those who haven't really experienced VR and are still somewhat skeptical. A much cheaper headset makes it more compelling to those people, and once they try it we'll have more people on our bandwagon.
I think if they can do even 300 hundred dollars and a good classroom management solution it would be so easy for schools with computer labs that have switched to chromebooks to change out their computer labs with vr labs which would change education you could do field trips to anywhere and anytime
Honestly
I’m glad that they’re finally pushing Vr out more in the recent years, with new headsets, announced headsets, new technology. I’m really glad I’m alive to see it all happen
The corn is the best.
I was waiting for this for almost 30 years
i was about to buy the quest 2 until i heard about this
@@user-kp3eq1uj8eIndeed you get to see it in a new depth.
@@user-kp3eq1uj8eThe only corn that has the budget to record with a VR compatible camera is the overproduced fake ass corny corn. Scrub that filth from your mind before it has lasting impacts
If Nintendo is trying their hand at VR again, we're in for an exciting few years. All it takes is a few of the big companies like Apple and Nintendo to set off a chain reaction as long as their products do decent enough. Can't wait to see how the next few years pan out for VR!
I just want it for homebrew.
Imagine a VR Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh game.
yea apple has a vr headset and it’s expensive asf
@@EmperorSeramir With how garbage modern pokemon games have been, I'd rather not see that. At least not if GameFreak are the devs.
@@EmperorSeramirVR Pokemon if done well would be fking amazing
About virtual reality classrooms. My university actually experimented with this. Our senior final was to make and publish a videogame but the pandemic prevented our teams from meeting up physically, so our professors tried out a 3D desktop app (forgot what it was called) which was compatible with VR. It was cool because you could completely customize your avatar like VRchat and the social environments were pretty flexible and interesting. Our professors hosted one or two weekly meetings on the platform and we all tried to make it work. The problem is, it completely sucked for productivity. The majority of people weren't even in VR and they got fatigued pretty quick. Everybody complained about it so our classes quickly migrated to Zoom. VR isn't good for school for the same reasons it's not good for office work. Nobody wants to be in a headset for that long because both the software and hardware isn't seamless enough. I commend developers for TRYING to make it work, but with first-hand experience it really sucks and it's way better to just use a chatroom like Slack or Discord. Maybe this new push for AR headsets could change that, but I still think we have a long way to go.
I think in the case in video, it's more about creating more sensational, vivid experience corresponding to the bit of knowledge about the world or specific thing. It's better to learn history from museums than from books, and even better if museum is interactive. It wont completely change the most natural way of learning through repetition, exercises and focused reading, but is a nice addition. Humans tend to remember better the things that evoked strong emotions and were just good unusual experiences. I think for that VR is the right tool to try out.
"Nobody" they said. 😂 Not EVERYONE gets motion sick after ten seconds, you know. I often have 5+ hour VR sessions and if you think I'm the only one, wow are you kidding yourself.
@@awesomeferret Yeah I play long VR sessions as well in games like Onward, Breachers, Beat Saber, etc. That's not the problem. The distinction I was making is long sessions of gaming vs long sessions of actual productive work and meetings. When I say software needs to "catch up" I mean streamlined ways of exchanging/viewing pdfs, presentations, better user interface, managing teams of people. Simple things like typing on a keyboard or taking physical notes is cumbersome with a headset on. Playing games in VR is great, WORK in VR sucks because it's not streamlined for that in my experience. For my university class EVERYBODY preferred a more traditional zoom meeting. It's not because people "couldn't handle VR" (this was a class full of game developers for pete's sake) it's because everybody preferred the traditional setup for practical productive reasons. I hope that gets better with the new AR headsets, there's potential to fix many of these issues.
@@BLAHBLAH1000shop oh, I completely agree. But that's why you use virtual desktop and stream your workstation.

When other VR youtubers are struggling to find any sort of content for now.. you somehow find some insanely interesting stuff to cover. I'm absolutely amazed. Well done thrill! You're genuinely one of the best, if not the best, VR youtuber out there ❤
Not really - he talks in almost every episode I've seen the past year or two about Quest 3, just sometimes adds a detail or two to it...
@@mr_koko2070 Well, say whatever you want, but Thrill is definitely one of the VR OG's on UA-cam. And I do really appreciate him for being so consistent with his content for all these years. You may say that he still covers the quest 3 and the quest ecosystem on this video, and you may find that boring. But it is the state that the VR Industry is in. At least for now, we lack content. I still appreciate Thrill for bringing news to the table regardless of that.
That’s so crazy sidequest sponsored this! Congrats ! Stoked on the future of VR, it’s been about 2 years for me and it’s already been a rollercoaster, but it’s already got triple the content as when I started. Can’t wait to see where it goes
I just desperately hope that VR game devs can get to making serious games, instead of the ascended tech demos that we always get.
(me trying)
It amazes me how simplistic almost every VR game is in the way of it actually being a game. Someone needs to make an open source project for handling VR controllers and their interaction with objects. Picking up, putting down, throwing.
@@BusinessWolf1 GDXR addon is the best we have, right?
If Meta starts releasing new headsets every year, I would feel sort of weird about having a product that will be old in a year.
I wish they saw VR more like a console than a phone.
Agreed
Except the Quest 3 Lite isn't a direct replacement for the Quest 3 and neither is the second Quest Pro headset, meaning this complaint is absolute horseshit. 🤷 We aren't likely to see a proper Quest 4 replacement for the Quest 3 until 2026, and late 2025 at the ABSOLUTE EARLIEST! If a $200 super stripped back Quest 3 Lite makes you feel insecure about your full-blown Quest 3 purchase you have some DEEP problems.
@@Cooe. or or, I don’t have much money and just want a new headset that won’t get outdated like my Rift S
@@eggyroo7181 Your Rift S wasn't fully outdated until Quest 2. That's a totally standard hardware lifespan in a rapidly developing industry. You got a few years of quality use before the hardware began to seriously fall behind the latest & greatest. That's totally fucking normal. 🤷 It's not like Quest 2 released months after Rift S... ANY new headset is going to eventually become outdated. That's literally how basic technology progression/development works...
@Cooe. Why'd you got mad so fast? But yeah I don't want to save up to then miss out on an upgrade when introducing a new headset. Hopefully laster on they are being released maybe 2 or 3 years apart, somewhat like a console. But each iteration should be much much different from the previous, kinda like a ps4 compared to ps5 as they still have playstation pros and whatnot. My worry is that it becomes like an iPhone each released being a tiny bit better that the one before but not gamebreaking really
I don’t think affordable hardware is the issue, you can pick up vr headset pretty cheaply second hand. It’s software, software, and software, that I feel is the problem, I think dropping the pc side / rift part of the business was a mistake.
Airlink / Virtual Desktop ?
@@eclecticbadger6380 wich is good but the Pc part of buisiness other than this, is dead, that what I mean. Lone Echo 2 was the last Pc game they made, but also in terms of apps and software a lot of them have started breaking or had no update since 2020.
@@eclecticbadger6380 airlink / virtual desktop with a quest 2 is okay but its not a good pcvr expirence as it is now well maintained by meta anymore frequent crashes tracking bugs eg
Affordable hardware is the issue for it to be mainstream
@@jujifinaIn my opinion VR hardware is already pretty cheap for the amount of complexity and engineering that goes into them. The problem really is that for the price point, there really isn't a whole lot you can do that justifies buying it unless you're a die hard fan of beat saber, HL Alyx, VRChat or a Zuckerborg... We buy smartphones and computers for way more money than the cost of a VR headset, but at present they are also way more useful/entertaining. I think that if Meta and the market as a whole wants to see mass adoption, they have to come up with something actually worth our time and money, be it a lot more of great and diverse games or anything else that at least sucks less than the current Metaverse, which is easier said than done, considering how hard developing a compelling VR app still is to this day...
I'm super excited to hear about a Quest Pro successor! I ultimately didn't keep it however, ever since trying it I'm longing for a no-gasket design headset with pancake lenses and face tracking.
I will definitely buy the Quest 3 but the funds for the Quest 4 Pro will be ready by the time it arrives.
God I've been desperately needing this video. I love when we get new news about immersion, and I'm also super excited at the prospect of a VR headset made by Nintendo. Sucks that old accessories won't work on Quest 3, but I was kind of already expecting that.
Anyways, this has been a great year for VR imo. Thanks for always keeping us up to date :)
I always make sure to tune in every week it always makes my day better. And the quality always blows my mind. Thank you so much!
The gyro solution is very interesting. I've thought about something similar for rotation by using centripetal force to stabilize the controller's rotation. This could be much smaller and fit into something like the Quest 2 touch controllers. Maybe a combination of these two things could create the feeling of objects in real 3-dimensional space. You could use haptic gloves to further the feeling.
Banter release flew over my head, I was interested in the first trailer and I thought it's in production at least until December. But well, now I can find out for myself if it's more my thing of social app than VRChat. Happy for your sponsorship and thanks for heads up!
I saw the notif and I clicked immediately, this better be exciting
Edit: it was exciting alright
It was not :/
It won’t be over hyped everything
You're a dreamer
LOL WHAT, you haven't even watched the video yet it hasn't even been out long enough for you to see it
Same
I’m glad to hear there’s another Quest Pro coming. I was bummed to hear they discontinued the first but managed to grab one and I love it. Face tracking is a massive benefit for me. I’m having a blast with it in VRC.
Great updates as usual! Teaching in VR sounds awesome, and I'm really looking forward to what Nintendo comes up with, because you never know what to expect from them.
I was obsessed with VR for YEARS... As a disabled vet still fighting for benefits.. Needless to say moneys been tight for a while... Christmas before last, we finally scraped together enough dough to get the kids an oculus, they were just as if not more excited than I was.. Well.. As my gf was finishing up the last of the kids gift buying for the day, she pulls into a gas station... Left the keys in the car while paying for gas... And Im sure you can guess where Im going with this... Some junkie stole the car... Had every gift for the kids in it... The last couple hundred bucks to our name, and an entire trunk full of groceries... 3 days before christmas... I cant tell you how I felt on many different levels... But most of all, the kids were heartbroken... My love for vr (and what love I had left for the world, little it was)... died that day... we still havent been able to put together enough for a replacement for them... Worst part was they already knew about it being their xmas present... sigh...
Hurts to read that... really hits the feels. Sorry to hear that. Wish you all the best and a ton of luck to get that compensated soon!
I’m so sorry for what happened to you. I hope you can maybe win a quest 3 for your kids at least

Getting closer to being on actual Tuesday
Right? Can't believe I uploaded on a Sunday this time.
you are my favorite Vr news channel keep it up :)
VR for education I think is by far the most interesting and under-explored use case for the technology, and it's surprising that none of the big players has yet decided to take it seriously; given that it would essentially be an auto-win as far as long term user familiarity. A lot of us 90's kids wound up lifelong Mac users thanks largely to their complete dominance of most school computer labs after all. It would certainly involve a lot more than just dumping the hardware into classrooms for VR, but it's some low-hanging fruit for sure.
What the hell kinda school did you go to that used macs?
In architecture school we got to use this VR experience to explore real life ruins and excavation sites, "walk around" (teleport through Google Earth-esque images) in 3D and take in the atmosphere and what's left, and be able to press a button anywhere to render in a realistic reacreation of what was there in the past from the same angle. It was amazing
Maybe for higher level of education but clearly not for primary school and Middle School at least it would probably be a disaster
@@cenciende9401 lots of school even ones with not much money used macs back then
It’s actually quite fascinating that you bring up the educational side, my father worked in the public health division of our county in Houston. He developed these vans that were equipped with two VR headset and would go to public schools as an event and allow children to try VR… the games were educational such as underwater, hiking, cooking and art
The index controller sound effect in the intro caught me so off guard, I’ve never noticed it in the intro before and I was so confused as to why my controllers turned on 🤣. Great video 👍
Wow, being able to feel recoil from a gun or resistance from slicing something is gonna be huge. As far as immersiveness goes. Very cool, very excited about the new VR features and enhancements.
Man, if Nintendo got into the VR scene, their headsets would sell wildly. Heck, even if there was a leak rumor, and it got a mountain of traction, it might even lead to interest on Nintendo's side, and could be that nudge that takes an idea from prototype to consumer. As weirdly brutal as Nintendo can be, they have been around since I was a child, and they still break moulds all the time and a VR headset is the perfect next idea for Nintendo to look at.
Theyd be like “hehe you used footage from our headset? Would you like to be hunted down and murdered?”
@@alecboi777The headsets will have shaped charges built in and explode if they copyright strike you
Nintendo tried to get into VR twice already. The Virtual Boy and that Cardboard thing they did a while back.
Honestly a VR by Nintendo sounds like a totalitarian dystopia, so I hope it either fails or gets enough complaints that they have to change their business practices
@@hahasamian8010 bro playstation already does it, you gotta calm down 😭
Wow, love coming for the news and seeing my own work there! So excited for what's coming!
Seeing those Gyros make it hard to press a button is super cool. It reminds me of sword skills in Sword Art Online. You can choose to break the action, but the system guides you.
These recent vids convinced me to get a Quest 3. My Pimax just died, and I got my old man a Quest 2 some while ago. Maybe it's time to play games with him again like when I was a kid. Thanks for all you do!

So far banter is great. Had a lot of fun on it. Also got to meet the CEO of sidequest who was a super cool and friendly dude. Was willing to take feedback and also answered all of mine and a few other people's questions about banter, sidequest, and game development. The world's on banter are also pretty fun, lots of worlds to have fun on. Game still has some rough edges to round out but so far it's great. Has alot of potential to become something great for VR.
This channel and a few others are hands down what's keeping me in the VR sphere
Unfortunately it's been a year and like 8 months since I last was able to play VR at all, so thank you for your efforts and the great content.

Congratulations on your sponsor, nice one Sidequest.
love it when a new weekday newsday comes out.
Man did we ever need some positive only items for the VR world lately! Keep up the great work!
I love how people out there have an eye for the little things that can make VR far more immersive. I always overthink how huge contraptions are needed to simulate the real world. But in the end little contraptions that stimulate our senses in a similar fashion can already be a game changer.
W00t , so much news in one go,
Good to see you making videos again. I miss you, homie
This felt like a video I watched in 2019. I loved it.
Thanks for the news!
This channel is so good, you’re a natural reporter
Their strategy is probably to create a second hand headset market to increase mass adoption, people with money upgrade and sell their old headsets for pennies and introduce new people to the ecosystem
You are able to identify whats happening from a business perspective rather than the consumer angle like everyone else. Well done
I love your videos so much they bring a smile to my face every time I see you uploaded
I can see a simple 3d printed adapter for Quest 2 to 3 compatibility being designed.
I mean yeah, there's even one for mounting a BoboVR M2 to the reverb g2! It's so amazing. Should be even slimmer than those adapters are!
Fanplasmic vid as usual! Best outro music ever. Sounds great at .5 or .25 speed too
12:58 honestly i can see a 3d printed adapter to that problem like simply making something that clips in between quest 3 clips allowing it to connect to quest 2 accessories
That into is my IRL daily start, can't wait to get my hands on this

great videos, exciting tech coming to vr sooner than we think
this stuff looks so cool and I’m excited to see the tech get more advanced.
yeah im buying the quest 3, itl be the best deal ill have in a long while based on most of the headsets ive seen come out over the years. i cant wait for it, i really want one over my rift s which has a cable that shorts, and of which i have replaced the main hmd 3 times, done lens transplants, broken some etc. ive stopped playing in vr because of it. on top of vrchat being so laggy 70% of the time
VR changed my life , it started when i played thrill of the fight on quest 2 , a boxing game. Lets just say by end of round 2 i was almost keeling over and dying from exhaustion. I kept going back into the game a few times a week as the progression got more difficult.
I didnt notice i was actually getting fit. Fast forward a year and im beating every opponent on the hardest level i can set it and barely breaking a sweat.
Speaking of sweat , thats the reason ive broken 4 quest 2 headsets and currently dont have one and havent had one since june. But i needed my fix.
I decided maybe if i go for a run i could get to that point of exhaustiion like i did in VR.
My forst run for 10km lol the a few weeks ago i did 12.5 km yestersay i ran 10km in under an hour.
Im now training to enter the local marathon. Im 37 and in the best shape of my life and its thanks to VR xx
Outstanding video sir well done

the Sony prototypes are dope as shit
i love the fact that they can attach to each other and it would be very cool to see that feature implemented in games. like a figthing game with some sort of shape shifting weaponry mechanic.
Tuesday Newsday on Wednesday? absolutely yes please
Hey awesome vids dude 🤘🏽 just wondering …do you think any XR/AR headset will put a camera on the back of the head or two …..was just thinking it would be awesome for riding a bike or driving or even going for a walk ….feel as though it would give more security with a rearview view maybe pip so you could see what’s behind you at the same time as in front or even two pips as like side mirrors etc etc and you could record the footage as you go like cctv …. And also maybe an ir led and cam for night vision would be good too both front and back 🤘🏽
Was also wondering about curved lcds for each eye if it’s the next big thing …then I was watching sadlyitsbradly ‘s vid from about a month ago and he said he is getting a full body kit complete with computer etc from a vr gaming company that went broke during Covid ….aaaand he mentioned that these headsets have curved lcds in them …so I’m guessing I’m on the right track maybe the same as probably a lot of people have been imagining about the future improvements ….I’m really looking forward to brads vid on this when he gets the kit and he could really lend some insight into the actual possibility of implementing these already existing techs into current leading ones … but I guess that’s usually the way it goes like many things usually start with either military or medical research and implementation because they are mostly government funded …then as the general populous gets wind they make their way into mainstream culture when risk takers get the info and run with it ….which is lucky for us ….I just think it’s sad sometimes that useful tech like these and others have to wait to be leaked or hacked etc before the government etc think about …oh hey maybe the people who actually pay for these research with their hard earned would like to be thought of first instead of last as benefiting from what their money has paid for ….so I am greatful for those individuals who also think this and help to make modern tech an actual thing for us and also very greatful to creators such as yourself and bradly for spending so much of your time and effort into helping the rest of us educate ourselves on these things so we can make better decisions for ourselves and not having to rely solely on marketing ploys…..so yeah thanks dude 🤘🏽🥳🤘🏽🥳🤘🏽🥳🤘🏽
Man, for all these new infos and stuff... I am still eager to get some new leaks/info about the deckard. I really love Valve and their hardware
Have you seen that fusion released on quest 2? I feel it's one of the most fun releases for VR especially during this moderate drought software.
Listen thrill, NO JOKE, if I ever get my first VR headset from side quest or really by other giveaways from you. I’ll legit get a tattoo of your logo or something. Maybe something of your choosing.
I really can’t wait to join the VR community I’m just broke asl. Been watching since your day one vids. You serve as one of the biggest inspirations for me.

I know you've briefly mentioned the Bifrost gloves before, but with all the hand stuff that you were discussing I was hoping to see if you had an insider type look of if they're actually gonna be good. They've been delayed already so I'm a bit worried if it was worth the money :/

I’m definitely getting the quest 3. I only have the original quest.. and the Rift S.
Lynx-R1 is finally shipping first several hundred units and plans to ramp up to 50K by next year I think, making quite the splash in Europe, and "sells hardware, not data" ^^
the intro never gets old
Very informational
YESSSS NEW UPLOADDDDD
Its mightve been done or material doewnt exist. But for haptic feedback for gloves, a non-newtonian fluid that solidifies via electrical current. Have a thin layer of it in the gloves then just run some current through it when you grab smth and it might be harder to grab. Thus wont work tho bc it wont twke much pressure to overcome it. It wont push back your fingers, just stop them from moving. It also wont give much physical feedback either
Me and my team plan to create a game that's mainly focused on pcvr / psvr, but we also plan to have it compatible with regular pc & console
Excited for the echoVR 'successor'! Hopefully it launches for PCVR this time instead of being quest exclusive.
Wasn't echo vr just echo arena on pc?
Speaking to schools in VR, I work for an Internet Service Provider and my company is going to be training new field technicians using Pico 3 VR headsets!
Really looking forward to hearing more about the Nintendo headset!
Love the video!
summers been brutal where I'm at havent been in vr like for 3 months at least
Interested in where you found the last haptic prototype on your list? It seems like an excellent lightweight idea.
Sidequest, wow.
only reason I haven't used it is because I can't be bothered to deal with the Developer account since I only use my Q2 a few times a month tops. Part of that's the state of the battery, though.
That gyro contraption would actually be really useful for something like beatsaber where you could program optimal lines into the controllers and your hands would be guided into the right movements by making it harder to make wrong movements. Would actually be crazy for developing muscle memory.
