As much as I dislike Meta as a company, their support is unsurpassed. My 2nd hand Quest 2 got the usual "burn out the USB-C" port, I contacted Meta, they replaced the headset, no questions asked.

@@ThrillSeekerVRI 2nd this. I've tried to watched a couple of other videos about this update and they struggle to be digestible enough to keep my interest and you nail it every time
Temperature immersion, that’s a new one for me. I imagine that being useful for day / night differentiation, weather, or using a tool / weapon that heats up during use. Maybe even to indicate an injury or being hit by something.
I have tried a few little temperature haptic modules before and I don't mean to sound hyperbolic or exaggerative, but I firmly believe that temperature feedback is a WAY bigger deal for immersion than even vibration feedback.
@@ThrillSeekerVR Oh wow, really? I never had the chance to try it out but I always felt that it'd be cool (pun-intended) but that's about it. Interesting!
Dude with temperature you barely even need actual haptic feed back, for example if you hug something hot or cold, it will feel like your hugging it even though nothing is pressing on your body. Also it’s makes you actually feel like your in a world instead of just seeing it.
Huh, that haptic glove solution looks pretty interesting in terms of finger texture, I wonder how that could work with the force-feedback of the LucidVR haptic gloves that you covered a while back. Combining fingertip texture and force feedback would be extremely immersive.
Just something to note from the Fluid Reality paper: they estimate the cost could go as low as $150/glove if brought to the levels of production where you'd see them on store shelves! (I was the one who brought the paper to thrill's attention in the discord lmao) They could in theory be combined with existing feedback modalities once they scale down the ribbon cables and overall size of the driving electronics (also mentioned in the paper)
@@geoterra9478$150 a glove for that kind of haptic quality? Hard to believe we might be heading towards that future, but it's so exciting that it's even possible!
This honestly makes me wonder if the "texture" would be good enough to function for Braille or without me googling to see if there is already something like this in place. I know it would not seem as useful as a VR tech until we can simulate seeing via different brain interfaces to help those that are blind.
This is how they can afford to subsidize the headset. Problem is that for a lot of people floor plans are findable anyways (e.g. condo+public contractor info). Unless you built it yourself of course. Its hard to know how these consequences will pan out 10-20 years down.
3:39 The boundary issues are NOT just a you problem. Had the Quest 2 for about a year now, it is really annoying when issues like that happen, and replacing the whole thing can get annoying fast. Glad to see they are being fixed.
I remember a dream I had where someone threw a fireball at me, I had barely dodged it and I remember feeling the heat passing by me, I woke up right after but the sensation that remained made me feel incredible "I dodged of a real fireball." first and last time I felt temperature in a dream, I would like to feel something similar in vr
That fluid reality glove was an idea I had in the 90s after I played Dactyl's Revenge in the mall :) Glad to see it only took 30 years...but we're almost there!
Hey Thrill. What do you think of Resonite? I don't see many people talking about it, which is a shame cause it's an incredible piece of VR software. If you remember Neos, you'll know what I'm talking about. Resonite is being developed by the same people that made Neos, except for that one guy that put crypto into it. So yeah, Resonite is essentially Neos, but without crypto and I feel like it needs more coverage. The team behind it deserves it.
Resonite is awesome! I haven't spent much time in it though as I've been in unity more than in games lately, but i did hop into resonite for a while and its basically neos but better which is awesome!
That's the super early pre-alpha concept price, when/if they get these developed into a consumer VR product they'll probably be about half the price currently. I hope they do custom sizing tho, some of us have monster hands.
Yeah, I think it’ll be very affordable in a couple years time! Just depends on how long it takes for them to find the right balance of parts , labor and cost.
Meta really has unparalleled support for their old headsets. My Quest 1 has been on life support for the last 2 years and the fact that it can handle Air Link with little to no issue running PCVR games has me really excited for the future of their headsets. I'll be getting my hands on a Quest 3 soon and I can finally put my Quest 1 to rest.
The Quest 2 has better controller tracking. Our Quest 3s have such terrible hand tracking even after several updates, might actually be a hardware issue so you might want to wait a bit and see if it gets fixed
I bought a 65 dollar strap off Amazon for like 50 bucks on Black Friday at the same time i bought my Quest 3, and I'm so glad I did. Only used the original strap for a couple hours, and it's so much worse than the Quest 2. There are good, affordable straps that keep the Quest 3 running for hours, they just aren't made by Meta.
Your sensitive personal information and the inside of your house is being encrypted with an outdated method. Meta is basically saying, yea we get that this is uncrackable, atm, but we understand that adversaries will and already are writing down the encrypted data to crack later. This is a major breach of security. The first device literally designed to map the world around you in 3D and send it over the internet uses an encryption method now basically understood to be (Not safe against Quantum Cracking). Question of the Week. This will be a totally silly question, as I don't have any VR (tech) experience whatsoever, but it's just a pure guess/hunch. But my question is - could games that are delayed for a longer period than usual, be due to companies getting inside knowledge of a NEW VR HEADSET Release? The obvious example would be that most people who follow VR, would know of the rumoured Valve Deckard. So could a game like BEHEMOTH have inside knowledge that if they wait for the Deckard release - then the game will automatically support it's (newer) features on release date. (just a stupid guess... maybe? ; )

Wait, they're removing phone notifications? I use those literally every day, and I'm not being sarcastic. It's really nice and convenient, what the heck?
I don't understand why PSVR2 is shunned by so many VR creators. I really think playing favourites is hurting the industry. I know it can "feel" like betrayal to dyed-in-the-wool devs, shedding blood for their stake, but I assure you that the opposite is true: any expansion of the industry simply means a larger audience for devs and more ambitious investment. Remember: we were ALL non-VR gamers a mere decade ago! It would be nice to appeal to and welcome non-VR gamers into our community, not just appeal to the people already here.
I think those temperature haptics researchers need to stop wasting their time. The microfluidic haptics at the beginning of the video could probably easily be modified to allow for cold, and hot sensations by pumping hot or cold water/oil. The researchers are trying to rely on temperature deltas that are just too miniscule, and their prototypes looked massive. Instead you can play with larger temperature deltas by pumping hot water/oil for hot sensations, purging with cold water instantly for neutral temperatures. Do the inverse for a cold scenario. Better to have an all in one device than needing two haptic devices that probably wouldnt be simultaneously compatible and would drive up cost.

Heard side quest is great. Only wish I could enter the giveaway without owning a vr already. I am looking to getting one and wish I could be in the giveaway.
Glad to see theyre still supporting and upgrading the quest series. I always love seeing my quest homies get a boost. Now if only the $1000 pro had a decent mic for social VR or "meetings and productivity" since that was their marketing pitch. Had to get a refund and send mine back so i can get an index instead. Quest 2 is still the king of standalone.
I'd really like to see a set of gloves with joints that go over your fingers, and can lock in place when you fully grip an object. For example, gripping a pistol, you wouldn't make a full fist, you'd get halfway to a full fist then the gloves joints would block you from going further. Would definitely make you feel like you're really holding something
At first, I was confused, and then I noticed that that's an AMAZING idea! Very smart, and I think that'd be just as cool as full body tracking, especially combining the two!
If your hand was the size of a house, you could still feel something the size of an ant. Our fingers are VERY sensitive, so I get the feeling those gloves are just the start. Heck of a proof of concept, though! Those liquid reality haptic gloves are incredible and I'm so excited for them, especially at that insane price point! I actually had to pause when I saw "raspberry pi" in the schematics because I was so excited.
The vision pro is a device for no one, and there are no consumers for it, just rubes getting grifted on a device that won't pan out, a collectors item that's only value will be in having it on a shelf collecting dust next to your other rare apple products that make up your collection. This is not a device for either consumers or enthusiasts, it's a statement made by Apple that they want can be in any space they choose and little else, and when they abandon the space because of course this product line will be abandoned, that will be a statement too, that they can leave whenever they feel like it. It's throwing weight around for the buzz not a product they intend to actually support or really even sell.
The Vision Pro already has customers. Think of the Automotive industry for example. In the past: Clay models of cars. Then at some point they switched to MR. Currently using XR-3 headsets, which are expensive, and requires an expensive PC as well as an expensive Subscription. You typically have a bunch of those. They will be replaced with Vision Pros, since the Vision pro does everything that is needed and is much more convenient and still cheaper than an XR-4 + PC.
@@germanmosca yeah, I'm sorry but it really doesn't, it doesn't have the power or the service model to actually break into that market. Those customers are not chomping at the bit to switch to the vision pro for their use cases. It's a pre-failed product, it's like a Google service, it's only there to exist for a bit to say it existed then be sunset forever, and show up in peoples personal museums to the company. It's stadia. It's the zune. It's the apple vision pro. The point isnt for it to work and be the future, it's launching a product because not launching products hurts the finances, but it doesn't need to succeed, because it's success isn't measured by that metric.
3:09 same here, i think the design of these controllers just isn’t very good for intuiting button placements. something like the wii remote never had this problem, and obviously regular game controllers don’t have this problem
Interesting because when I got my elite strap right off the bat for my quest 2 when that came out mine broke in a similar fashion to thrills, not snapping on the arms
4:22 FYI Thrill, End to End Encryption doesn't mean meta can't read your headsets backups, end to end encryption just means intercepting the backup while it's on the way to meta's servers is a lot harder. Even if it did mean meta couldn't read the backup I'd be surprised if they can't just read the entire storage of the headset whenever they want anyway. And even if there was proof that there is no backdoor to read the headsets entire storage or ram or any other important component and this backup was also encrypted before being sent by something like AES, there's still no reason why they couldn't claim that the backup is encrypted before being sent to their servers and then sent the encryption keys of that system with the backup. There are no real ways to ensure a company holding your data backups can't read them without you yourself encrypting them and keeping those keys secure outside of a system that company has explicitly greenlit
Its entirely a chain of trust when the access is limited, and on teh topic of storage. That's why it matters a lot when companies don't comply to external demands, or when they do they actually hand over encrypted data. That's the only way that trust is built... and like you said, there's still no 100% but let's just say some companies are closer to 100% than others.
Funny thing with the comparison Apple vs Varjo is when you say „and apple vision IS standalone”. Is? No it isn’t. It just isn’t anything at this point. Apple vision does not exist so far, it’s a promise, a few prototype prelaunch samples and just a dream that probably won’t happen when it was promised, at least not in the form they promised
As a Lego fan, I can tell you that there's absolutely no way that they will shift onto an NFT like business and leave the sets behind. Also 30$ is not getting you much Lego when you pay full price for a set nowadays 🤣
Slightly off topic, but could you look in to what is going on with Meta's servers this week. The Oculus pc app has the worst downloads speeds of any thing on the net. I bought Arizona sunshine 2 after 24hrs downloading its still under 500mb total downloaded. Many people having the same issue, can't even download the Oculus PC app to try reinstalling it. because it's so slow. The quest downloads don't seem to be effected its just PC app.
Im a software developer. Id 100% ask my boss to pay out for a vario headset, but never in a million years would i ask him for a apple headset. The amount of headache for developing and distributing software in the apple echosystem simply isnt worth it in my opinion. Especially when you are making internal tooling
This sucks so much, I've been using rift s since its release, and I really spent so many days in vr since then. I always wanted a quest 2 and never saved enough for it. Now I have money for quest 2 but it would be stupid for me to buy quest 2 over 3 because I'm probably gonna be stuck with it for another 4 years. I also don't know if its worth waiting for lite instead of actually saving up for quest 3. Plus they would never do a sale on quest 3 since it just released, and nobody would be interested in buying my rift s for me to make up the money. By the time I get around on buying quest 3 they are probably gonna release some shit like quest 3 pro XX amazing edition w/ full insideout body tracking. i hate this
Updates are welcome, but i have no interest in Meta's Horizon. I already have my place so no transferring over at all. The heat immersion is not something i am waiting for it. Simple because some people cannot afford more heat to face. In summer times also no more heat please. Vibrations and pressures are oke, but heat is still no-go for many people. And it uses a lot energy so yeah development here is not good, unless it's more business way. Because it will another expensive accessory. Varjo and Apple have both own roads and community. There is no real winner. Both have totally different ways. Apple is more Apple focused, Varjo more PC focused. And not all will get it due high prices.
Everytime I see "haptic gloves" in the title, I eye roll because I know he's gonna just say "yeah it's crazy, but it costs your life savings and isn't out and fuck you"
15:20 why does my spatial data need to be uploaded to their cloud and not locally? It was fine on Quest2, but they made it unreliable on Quest3 to incentivize sharing your data to use the feature.
Yeah I should have clarified a bit (believe me I'm still a bit skeptical too lol) but images and actual playspace boundary information isn't send to Meta/ the cloud; only the cloud point anchors/ spatial coordinates are. Still, I feel ya.
lol I still forget which ones the X button too, and to make it worse I bought a light blocking mask cover that blocks out the area around your nose as well.

YES, doot-doot!
We need haptic gloves for standalone
Glad to see theyre still supporting and upgrading the quest series. I always love seeing my quest homies get a boost.
Now if only the $1000 pro had a decent mic for social VR or "meetings and productivity" since that was their marketing pitch. Had to get a refund and send mine back so i can get an index instead. Quest 2 is still the king of standalone.
Quest 2 is good, quest 3 is a bit better
Someone's definitely going to invent haptics for feet so you can feel the bricks when you step on them in Lego Brick Tales. 😂
For me its a wednesday newsday💀
I'd really like to see a set of gloves with joints that go over your fingers, and can lock in place when you fully grip an object. For example, gripping a pistol, you wouldn't make a full fist, you'd get halfway to a full fist then the gloves joints would block you from going further. Would definitely make you feel like you're really holding something
At first, I was confused, and then I noticed that that's an AMAZING idea! Very smart, and I think that'd be just as cool as full body tracking, especially combining the two!
they actually started developing that too
fluid reality was at AWE this past year. all they had setup was the finger pad running through a few demos but it was really compelling.
do you need Facebook account to use the quest 3?
If your hand was the size of a house, you could still feel something the size of an ant. Our fingers are VERY sensitive, so I get the feeling those gloves are just the start. Heck of a proof of concept, though!
Those liquid reality haptic gloves are incredible and I'm so excited for them, especially at that insane price point! I actually had to pause when I saw "raspberry pi" in the schematics because I was so excited.
quest 3 giveaway when?
10 of us with a Quest Pro? I think not, there are DOZENS of us, DOZENS!
Hmm I'd bet 50 or so watch this channel
I was expecting to hear your take on RE4 coming to PSVR2 in just a few days! I'm so excited.
Woah caught it early!!!!
Still holding out hope that Apple decides to toss the M3 in the Vision Pro. I think they would sell far more units.
I mostly play VR chat so im just waiting for the day that affordable haptic gloves come out and I can give headpats and feel them.
You have no clue what you are talking.
Great video Thrill. You rock!
$1000 for gloves💀
the lego game and the fluid gloves sound like a match made in heaven
You’re not the only, bud. I peek down to see where ABXY are, lol. Nintendo, PlayStation, XBOX no problem - the Quest? I still can’t remember!
Im a software developer. Id 100% ask my boss to pay out for a vario headset, but never in a million years would i ask him for a apple headset.
The amount of headache for developing and distributing software in the apple echosystem simply isnt worth it in my opinion.
Especially when you are making internal tooling
"TUESDAY NEWSDAY" need moar reverb and delay, Thrill! It's not epic enough rn
The gloves are cool, but never had any problem with buttons of controllers, like I remember where they are. Looks like I have some superpower lol
YOU USED THE GABEN SAYING FROM THE INTERVIEW!!! YESSS TURN IT INTO A MEME!!! WOOOOOOOOOO
Thrill assuming everyone's bedroom is airconditioned is such a privalidged people problem XD
I didn't know stranger things was pushed back indefinitely that is crazy. That is going to be one of the biggest titles.
Ugh, I don’t want my room and its boundary uploaded to the cloud 😒
Yeah. Feels like a very Facebook thing to do. A little bit sus.
Yeah I should have clarified a bit (believe me I'm still a bit skeptical too lol) but images and actual playspace boundary information isn't send to Meta/ the cloud; only the cloud point anchors/ spatial coordinates are. Still, I feel ya.
Hi :)
who else is hyped for beat saber ost6?!
TUESDAY NEWSDAY YALL ITS A SIGNNNN
lol I still forget which ones the X button too, and to make it worse I bought a light blocking mask cover that blocks out the area around your nose as well.
Dude the intro is always so clean!
also your not alone i never remmember which one is x
I have been watching your channel for a little less than three years now and i gotta say, no matter how much you change your video style, you always manage to give us information on vr news in a fun way. Im glad you are getting the subs you deserve for your obvious hard work and i look forward to seeing how much bigger you will become :) ik thrill wont see this but even if your videos arent funny gameplay like Smii7y, you kept me going through some dark places. Thank you
Please don't slack on music, Thrill (6th minute).
You should try getting phantom sense I have it and I can feel heat taste things smell things basically, you trick your brain into thinking that virtual reality is real and then you start feeling things I can’t even play shooter vr games anymore because of it lol
