Excited!! Looking forward to your video!!
What lake?
Read the description.
@@FishingwithRodit says one of the stocked lakes in the Fraser Valley , that doesn't help. In the video you mentioned being several . So back to the original question, what lake ?
@@AreEff1987 www.gofishbc.com/Stocked-Fish.aspx#fish-stocking
I’ve finally got here Rod! Just renewed my BCFishing (alien!) licence and might try some lakes in the Okanagen....😜 Thanks for the video, Carol from Sydney, Australia.
Welcome Carol! I'll be in the Okanagan in a month from now too, mostly around Penticton. 😄 Hope the weather warms up faster soon, it's been a cold spring so far.
Glad I found your channel 😊. I’ve improved my fishing game by 100% since watching your videos. I live in Campbell River now and I’m having my best season ever 🎉
So happy to hear that! I need to come up to Campbell River and fish. It has been over 20 years since I last did that. 😱
It had to be frustrating when the fish 🐟 kept coming off at the bank. Was it the hook set or the fisherman. LO L.
I'm jealous of how many options you have! (Lakes) Most of the lowland lakes in WA open this Saturday and they'll all be crazy crowded for awhile.
Yeah we are really fortunate to have this program up here, pretty well run overall. In total there are approximately 800 lakes stocked with several million fish each year. Within 100km radius from Vancouver, there are easily over 2 dozens to choose from. Travelling further out, the quality of the fisheries changes a lot, from put and take of smaller fish, to potential of catching trophy size trout up to 5 to 8lb.
Nice episode Rod. This is the kind of fishing I like to do with my kiddos. Tightlines bud👍😊
They'd love it for sure, and get a small campfire going, lots of room for it. 🙂
With all the long releases being smaller fish, I might use a smaller hook.
Lake is so serene it’s a gem. I would love to fish at a place like this. Thank You for sharing.
Thanks for watching Slab Slayers!
Wish we had more trout and salmon closer to where I live. Very jealous
Bro what did you put in the hook please reply back thanks..

What lake is this?
Let me know if you you ever find out
Where’s this spot?
Great video rod! Those fish looked extremely hungry! Would love to cast some chironomids into that lake :)
Yeah next time I'll have to bring a fly rod, wade out a bit and cast a chronie out, just let it hung below the indicator beyond those branches...
Whenever you use that reel you can always find someone commenting on the lack of drag applied.
Better make it even looser then for more views next time. 😉
Recently just started fishing in vancouver island and here i am laying in bed watching these videos. Love the content and scenery of your spot!
Glad you like them! Good luck with exploring and fishing on the island. 😊
Hi Rod, What is length of that rod? Great video!
Thanks Debra. That rod is 9' long. It's a custom built spinning rod, the blank is a standard 9' 5wt fly rod blank. It's very rare to find long light spinning rods like that for float fishing, that's why I decided to have this built instead.
Where is this
Hey Ron, Are you able to show or paste a link for the beginners on how you set up the rod? (example: Bobber, weight, Swivel, leader line, hook)
yeah he has multiple videos, he jsut did one for stocked trout
Yep, there are two particular videos you should check out:
ua-cam.com/video/-W_6AXSJk4c/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/YrDo9M6lS0E/v-deo.html
I started my fishing experience with corks. Great stuff. These days I want to try fly fishing for inshore salty fish. Targeting in the 5 to 9 lb range.
What rod, reel, line weight would you recommend. Possibly windy conditions with larger flys. Thank you Rod.
I'd say you want to go with at least a 6/7wt, maybe even higher depending on the species you are targeting, and go with a faster rod to punch the line out on windy days.
I know the lake well, can be tricky fishing the other side where it's very deep. And can be dangerous as well, the banks are very steep and rocky. I must say, I've been loving these recent videos you've been doing. You should do a peamouth catch and cook. 🤭
Nice video Rod! Also do a rocky mountain whitefish catch n cook, that would be nice
Actually someone else was just talking to me about peamouth chub catch and cook tonight. 😆 It may just happen. Is there a trail that goes around the lake btw? Glad you're enjoying the videos lately!
Thanks James! I love catching mountain whitefsh. I've never eaten one, so will have to try it.
@@FishingwithRod there isn't that I know of. I may have to check around the north end which is swampy, and bring out the machete to make my own trail. I always wanted to explore the other side.
PS whitefish are delicious, I catch them with a nail and a dropper loop with a small fly. They're best caught December to March on the main stem fraser above mission. The higher you go the better they taste.
@@Pray4Mojo1 which lake is this?
By far my favorite and most relaxing way to fish
Very therapeutic!
Great video!! I was just there the other day at elbow lake great fishing.
Thanks! 🙂
I was there over a week ago. It was too windy and cold. I'll probably head back there in the next few days.
Yeah I lucked out with the conditions. There was a light breeze at times but for the most part it was perfectly calm. Good luck when you return!
@@FishingwithRod wellll... This used to be my fly patterns testing lake. Since it's super close to where I live. I just got here and left.
20 cars, 17 guys exactly where you fished. 7 boats and 5 float-tubes.
I went a little further and saw another bunch of people on the steep banks.
So for the first time in almost 10 years watching your content, I have a little bit of a bitter taste... I know you're trying to promote fishing and all and I still thank you for all you do. I don't mind sharing the water but this was crowded to the point where you can't even get a spot from the bank. I guarantee there will be a decent amount of coffee cups, plastic bags, snacks bags left on the banks. I guess I'll just go back during the week and collect the trash then fish.
(Rant is over, moving to another body of water)
Cheers!
@ exactly what happend to me. ended up leaving and comming back sunday at 6 and still had to go to the other side of the lake for a spot. Was fishing off the bottom and the 3 fish that i had hooked got snagged on rocks as the area was super rocky. was still a good day tho
Great vid Rod , some nice fish . Would be a great lake for a kayak to fish out of. Thanks for sharing
Definitely! Thanks Ernie! 🙂
For some reason I don’t hook any fish in that lake :) thanks for sharing your information and gorgeous video.
You're welcome. Thanks for checking it out. 🙂
What lake is it
Thanks for making this video. Reminds me of the first time i went fishing and why i keep fishing.
You're welcome. I really enjoy going back to the basics every now and then. Thanks for watching!
The dead tree in the water, that is hip level. Looks like the the GLOOMIS logo!
Sir, if you reel up your nylon on the spool, your reel goes clockwise, and your new fresh line must go counter clockwise, so you will eliminate the spiral in your line. It seems you spinned it up clockwise, to clockwise, the way i described will counter the spiral and put your line flat on the reel, i can be wrong but your line is definetely twisted. By the way, what a dam beautiful lake you are there wow.
Can I ask a question: how do you feel like between felt wading boots and rubber wading boots? which one feels better in this condition?
I have had both and felt is definitely my preference. The only time when rubber is good, is when it snows. Snow tends to stick to felt quite easily, where as it comes off rubber with no problem. Rubber on the other hand, feels like ice skates on rocks.
@@FishingwithRod Thank you so much, so for the regular lake and creek, felt is better? without stud right? THANK YOU SO MUCH, i really appreciate your share of your knowledge
Yep definitely. Rubber works ok in some rivers, but in rivers where the rocks are slick with algae etc, you'd feel like you're ice skating with rubber.
So serene! I need to get out there.
Thats a great rod you got there.May i know what kind of rod and reel is this!.
tight your drag, that's why are u losing fish

The scenery is so wonderful and beautiful always fun to fish with the rod 👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed it Mike. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
@@FishingwithRod you’re welcome love fishing
Lots of action! Beautiful setting! Nice job, Rod!
Thank you William! 🙂
We know Rod. The one that got away was always bigger than the one you land. LOL
I'm going to be visiting Vancouver BC in last week of July and 1st week of September. I'd love to find a creek or small river that's quiet and hopefully has some decent fish. Any recommendations??? I primarily bait fish. Pretty much like this video. Also want to do some salt water stuff. Jericho pier ? No boat and lack of transportation but fortunately somewhat close to Jericho pier.
Love your videos. Definitely a subscriber.
Thanks Mark! So there isn't a whole lot of river fishing during that time of the year because most rivers will be too low (and warm). Chilliwack River offers some opportunities but it's 1.5 hour drive outside of Vancouver. Cheakamus River offers good trout fishing in the summer, there is a bait ban. For saltwater fishing, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that Jericho Pier is not open right now due to storm damages. The mouth of the Capilano River is always a good place to try out, lots of coho should be staging in that part of the inlet throughout August.
Nice video Rod! What camera did you use? Looks really good!
I mainly shoot with Canon DSLR’s. 🙂
where is it, lindeman lake?
how do you find these places?? Im in Alberta, kinda new to fishing here, came to Canada few months ago and cant find any river where I can access to fish
For lakes, we have a list on our website.
www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/lake.html
Love the beautiful scenery! Would have been fun to throw some small inline spinners or spoons at them. Maybe even some floating rapalas.
Yeah a small Rapala! I have a whole bunch at home and will need to try that next time.
Elbow lake in BC Regs says bait ban. Was hoping to go there.. Am I looking at the wrong lake?
Yes.. wrong lake.
Which Elbow Lake were you looking at? I wasn’t aware that there is a different one.
@@FishingwithRod There is one in Thompson-Nichola region (which shows in the regs). This one does not show in the regs.
@@edufide If no specific rules are mentioned then the standard provincial regulations for the region apply.
Asim, yeah I see it now. You had me freaking out for a split second btw even though I was very sure about the regs, but went to double check anyway just to make sure I didn't somehow break the rules. 🙂
I just subscribed to you, but I love the video! I love fishing for trout in creeks, lakes and a calm pond
Thanks for the sub!
Love your Videos Rod. Do you have one about fishing Chilliwack Lake?
Thanks Phil. I don't have a video on Chilliwack Lake yet. :)
Dare I ask which lake your at? I’m around Nanaimo area. Kinda looks like renny to me.
It is one of two dozen lakes stocked with these rainbow trout by GoFishBC/FFSBC in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley (Region 2). You can do a search in the database:
www.gofishbc.com/Stocked-Fish.aspx
And use their "Where to fish" section to find it. It should be pretty easy. 👍
Hi Rod, What is length of that rod? Great video!
Thanks. 9’ long.
Nice and funny
Thanks!
Nice video! But still couldn’t find out where this place is :(
Any of the two dozen stocked lakes in the Lower Mainland would produce these fishing results. :)
Nice one rod love left handed cast that's new. look like i have to think twice before either the interior on here this weekend
Nice vid as usual! How long does it take for you to create a vid 2-3h per clip?
Thanks! It depends on the episode, it can be anywhere from 10 hours like this one, to a span of one week.
Nice episode Rod. This is the kind of fishing I like to do with my kiddos. Tightlines bud
Thanks 👍 Hope you can get out with them soon, spring stockings are about to begin. :)
What rod do you recommend for this kind of fishing for a younger kid starting out?
A 6 or 7ft long spinning rod rated 2 to 6lb would work well. I have a video coming out soon about this. In the meantime check out this one: ua-cam.com/video/-W_6AXSJk4c/v-deo.html
More Great Stuff! Kissinger Lake between Lake Cow. and the west coast of Vancouver island is a put and take stocked lake Too. The accomadation s are very rustic (Tent or camper.) very much remote and no gas engines.
Yep! In about two weeks from now I'll be starting a new project featuring some of those lakes in Southern VI. 🙂
We've been out doing a little steelhead and doing pretty well but the weather will last 3 weeks has been awful it actually snowed twice down here in Washington looks like the weather's been better up there good to see you out good video.
The weather has been unstable up here too. I've postponed a lot of our filming to some of the locations in the past two weeks because it was either snowing or raining.
What lake is this?
Good vibes. You should open a farm😂
A farm?! 🤣
Great vid Rod! I often go up to Weaver lake when I cannot get up country to Kamloops. I get some nice 300 gram up there. Same technique or trolling leeches. Road might be a bit rough up there just yet. I am all set for Merritt Kamloops and itching to go!! Will be doing HWY 24 this year as well.
Yep! Looking forward to Merritt and Kamloops, starting this week. 😉
Rod love your videos, but for the love of god tighten your drag! haha
Haha I like to dramatize things a bit!
Great video! Do you mind sharing how deep you are fishing at?
I don’t mind, I actually mentioned it in the first five minutes of the video 🙂
I enjoy watching while I make my lures.you keep me company 😊
Your virtual fishing companion/buddy. 😁
Which elbow lake was this? The one near harrison or near sun peaks?
Harrison
Are you right handed or left I see how you cast and retrieve
I do both actually, really depends on what gear I am using.
No way my grandparents live near there trout fishing is insane there
Awesome! 🙂
Nice ~ wish we have beautiful lakes and creeks like yours in Southern California.
Yeah we are quite blessed up here for sure.
I think once you stop chasing the big fish and find peace with the little fellas a whole new world of fishing opens up.
I pretty much would just do any kind of fishing depending on what's good at the time. 🙂
One thing I would suggest is to bring up your rod tip a bit higher. It allows the rod to bend and flex a bit better with the fish as its trying to spit the hook.
Thanks! Definitely. There are a couple of reasons that I kept the rod low. Mostly because I wanted to keep the rod within the GoPro video frame. There was also a tree right above me so I didn't want to keep hitting it when I raised it too high.
gotta love the float downs right at the moment you look away huh bro lol 🤣 great video
Haha never fails, especially for coho fishing. 🤣
I know that Lake I live really really close to it
Better get down there this weekend then. 😉
aww man where is this id love to fly fish this lake
Info in description.
Hello. You should to change your hook.
💡😉
this gonna be good!😁
Very nice video, love the beauty of the scenery , nice fish you caught !!
Thank you! 🙂
Cool place, tying croni's as I watch.
Awesome! 🙂
This one kinda reminds me of your old mackerel video where you were fishing from the pier. Lots of action! Glad you had an exciting session.
Yeah definitely! I need to keep doing more videos like this, which seem to be what people want to see.
Hi Rod, is this a wild lake or a stocked lake?
Stocked
Are you outdoors chef lifes father?
😆😆😆 I'm not that old!!
Hey I've recently just started fishing and am new to fishing in lakes I'm actually from langley,BC would you be able to tell me of any place within 20 minutes you'd suggest for this type of fishing from shore?
Yep! 🙂 I have a list of lakes around the Lower Mainland for this type of fishing actually, you can find it at:
www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/lake.html
@@FishingwithRod thank you for responding I'm actually watching your video to set up for salmon on the vedder river and tying up some leader lines with gooey beads on them. Hoping to hook into a late spring. Love your content so informative and helpful keep up the great work Rod! See yah on the rivera
Awesome! Thanks for checking the videos out. 🙂
Please excuse my naivety but why do not you or anyone else disclose the fishing spot (name of the lake)? I have noticed in the fishing community that “not disclosing” the spot is the norm? I am just curious if the “why”if you do not mind. Thx
Hi mia, the name of the lake is in the video description.
When it comes to the locations in the video, it really depends. Sometimes it is disclosed, other times it is not. When it is not, it's usually because the area cannot sustain a huge influx of pressure. These videos are viewed by a lot of people, so I do have to be very careful on what I am sharing etc.
Thank you for your in depth reply, Maestro. The more I interact with you the more I like you. Stay true to yourself and never stop sharing your true and genuine self. It shows and many people love you for it. Tight lines.......🎣🎣🎣
You’re very welcome Mia, it’s my pleasure to assist. 🙂
Reminds me of fishing lightning lakes, but there I go off the canoe with a spoon. Rainbows all around that size, still lots of fun.
Yep! The only difference is that the rainbows at Lightning Lake would pull much harder because those are all wild fish.
Bobber fly combo crushes them there
Thanks for another great video Rod. Is there much of a boat launch there?
Not really. You can probably put in a canoe, but there isn't a proper boat launch.
What lake were you at Rod?
I put the info in the video description. 🙂
Excellent photography!!!!!
Thank you.
Keep it up
Thanks!
Nice vid!
My thoughts on all of the lost fish…
For me the hook was too thick. A smaller and thinner hook would, I think, be less likely to be thrown.
Size 10 or 8, regular or light wire would have been my choice.
Yeah definitely, the thickness of the shank is most likely the reason for losing these fish. That's ok. I was fine with losing a few if it means they don't get deep hooked since all of them were going back to the lake.
Size 6 -8 is best especially size 6 if you going to release it.
Great video Rod! I never use a float, its nice to see and learn from others.
Thanks! Give the float fishing a go for sure!
Ahhhh I know this lake ,
🙂
Sweet video rod! Looks like a blast!
Thanks Jonathon! 🙂
Hey Rod when are we gonna see you fishing these lakes in a kayak or float tube? :P
I do have an Old Town Kayak which I plan to take out, eventually lol. Filming it might be a different story, I'm sure there'll be a steep learning curve to get it right.
@@FishingwithRod Awesome! I'm sure there's a ton of options for camera rigging. I'd be curious what fisheries you'd use it for.
Thinking mostly bass at the moment. 🙂
awesome
Thanks!
Keeping the rod to low that’s how they getting off
Yep. The rod was mostly kept down for the GoPro shots, but yes normally it would be higher.
@@FishingwithRod 👍 love how you put the bobber downs in the vid 10/10 not many people do that
Thanks Dylan! Bobber downs are the best, that's the part people want to see the most. :)
@@FishingwithRod yeah buddy! Love what your doing keep it up👌
Hi What lake were you at?
Read the description.
Very unusual for me since atleast where i live in Norway stocked fish are rare as hen's teeth but i guess the stocked lakes are or atleast can be very children friendly.
Yeah beside our salmon and steelhead streams, we have a good selection of stocked lakes (up to 800 right across the province actually) to choose from. These particular ones around Vancouver are definitely very family/child friendly. We also have remote stocked lakes which have the potential to produce fish up to several kg.
@@FishingwithRod yes i know, i just feel sad over the fact that the fishing pressure is not sustainable for the original fish to make it:(
Actually in BC, most of our stocked lakes did not have fish originally, or produced trout that are big enough to catch. For example, the lake where I was fishing in this video does not have the potential to grow trout like the ones I was catching, that's why it gets stocked to provide more opportunities. There were a couple of really small cutthroat trout which I showed near the end of the video, that's kind of as big as they'd grow naturally in that lake. For some of our trophy lakes, they didn't have the big fish but have the potential to grow big fish, so the strategy is to release fish at the fry or yearling stage in these water bodies, and within a few years they would in fact reach several kg.
@@FishingwithRod they are almost all nutrition poor so fish just cant grow big?
The coastal lakes like the one in this video is nutrient poor, therefore do not have the potential to produce big fish in a short time frame. Many of our lakes in some regions on the other hand, are nutrient rich but historically did not have fish in them, so once stocked, they end up producing big fish within a couple of years.
🎣🎣👍👍
🙂👍
How was the road to the lake?
Smooth as butter. 😅
