I have owned many bikes since 1970. I began with a Honda 70 and moved through various Hondas to the Yamaha RD series into Suzuki 900 to the Kawasaki Widow Maker 750 and then 1100 to the V-Max in 1985 and then various Ninjas to the Busa and early Boss Hoss 350 and 502 and now the 2020 Triump 3 GT Rocket. Over 30 bikes I counted in 54 years. I found the 4 year old Rocket with 300 miles on the odometer. Not a scratch anywhere on the bike. I rode it from Dallas (or Plano) to home at Lake Texoma. At 67 years of age I decided to make The Rocket a nice attration in my house. I don't think I will ride this beast but rather adore it like a painting or work of art. It is an oustanding motorbike. Acceleration is unbelievable. The design is art. I start it once a week. Heck, I don't smell carbon monoxide or burn't fuel and my warning alarm hasn't gone off yet. But I only run it 2-3 minutes. I love reading these comments. Yes the Busa and V-Max are fast but the Rocket looks....like a Rocket. And I love it.
I had a 2006 and a 2010. Best bikes I have ever owned. It was the easiest tight turns, curvy roads etc. I now own a 2017 Indian Springfield and on curvy roads , to me, it is like riding a tank. I’m 74 and thought maybe I should tone it down a bit. I like the Indian but it seems all I ever talk about is my rockets. Amazing bikes!
Since the first time I saw one of these I found it to be one of the most beautiful bikes I've ever seen. Looks like a sculpture. Artistically beautiful. Glad to know it rides well too. Merry Christmas, Kevin... and I didn't mind the "sappy" part at all. My wife won't get on a motorcycle but we are both at peace with it. She encourages me to take a couple long trips a year and tolerates what she calls my " times of adoration," just starring at it in the garage.
My wife rode with me many times when we were dating but never again after we got married. I think she was happy to have me out of the house on the bike.
Even though the bike is far too big for my taste, I like the shining on your face when you talk about it 😊 May the Rocket never be faster than your reactions and God's helping hand and may you enjoy every single mile on it!
Great review sir. We purchased a 2020 Rocket III GT which my son rode most of the time. We put over 16,000 care free miles on that bike and I agree, Triumph builds one of the best bikes out there. My son traded the RIII GT on a Honda 1100 Rebel which he loves to ride. However, I wish we still had the Rocket in our garage. I may bite the bullet and get another Rocket...It is truly an awesome machine !
Good review. I'm always happy to see and hear that people like their bikes. I'm a firm believer in "Ride what you like, like what you ride.". It appears that both the Rocket 3 GT and the Gold Wing DCT fit you well.
I have a 2020 GT with just over 40,000 miles on it now. Love the thing, it can do almost all. No other cruiser of any make has ever passed me in the tight twisties and I can even keep up with most sport bikes. Also speaking to comfort I recently participated in an Iron Butt ride going just over 1,100 miles in less than 24 hours and my butt faired pretty well, lol. No problems there the stock seat is the most comfortable one I have sat on. The one thing about the Rocket I do not like is the factory panniers. While the brackets look great and fold up nicely the panniers themselves are teeny and not waterproof at all. Plus the zippers are starting to go and I dont know if Triumph is going to replace them or not. I would not recommend the panniers to anybody. Overall I agree with Kevin this is a fantastic machine. PS. I do reccomend getting a larger windshield. I got the Powerbronze and its a great addition.
10k Mile service interval is a huge deal to me. I don't want to be in the shop ever 5k or 6k miles... this has got to be the best review of this bike I've watched. Cheers... New sub here.
Happy to see you finally made that review you talked about few months ago on the Facebook group related to that motorcycle. Well done my friend and specially like the visual presentation at the beginning. Ride safe! ✌️
Looked at a 2022 rocket gt this past weekend. I have to say it is the first bike that has really peaked my interest since I bought my v65 magna new back in 83. Don't know what it is but I'm pretty sure I'll have one in the next couple of months. My wife loved it too. She was with me when I got the magna as well.
Thanks! I had a Ducati and loved it on short runs but it beat the hell out of me when I took it on a 100 mile run. You and I seem to have the same requirements for a comfortable bike so based on this review I will take a look at a Rocket.
Good review Kevin. While I do not own one now I have enjoyed owning a few Triumphs(Bonneville, Trophy and America) in the past. I test rode a Rocket many years ago when they first arrived on the market let’s just say they have evolved yet have had the one constant….Massive motor. Enjoy!
I just got a 2023 Rocket-R, and the only other bike that took my breath away with its Thrust was my 99 Hayabusa. This Rocket is an absolute Freight Train 🚊, if not for the hump on the seat, this Bike will sweep you off the back. It has no bad angles to look at, and it draws a crowd. Love it 👍🇬🇧
Kevin- congrats again on your Rocket III GT my previous comment i think i accidently deleted but I actually was crazy enough to learn how to ride on the rocketafter my BRC(basic rider course) I went big as they say in texas and got approved with 4150 down on a brand new 2014 RIII Roadster (back in early 2015) well 44k miles later no accidents and have never been down (thank god). Bike has been absolutely bulletproof just tires you'll go through some tires but the grin will never leave your face trust me on that. What you have is lighter, more technology, and more powerful than my rocket- mine has been good to me with exception of occasional valve cover gasket issue. Wanted to maybe suggest a video of the importance of wearing ear protection while riding; new riders need to know shield or not shield full face or half shell you will get some wind and noise exposure and especially on long trips that could lead to tinnitus. Its on my to-do list to send this same suggestion to Rider magazine (long time subscriber as i'm sure many here are as well).
I used to own both the Valkyrie and a Rocket III Touring (2300cc). Two of my favorite bikes. Have test ridden the R version and love the engine, but would prefer the GT setup with a little more wind protection. Keep hoping they create a real Gran Touring version. Might have to join you in the multi bike garage segment to meet all my wants. P.S. Thanx for all you do for motorcyclists!! Much appreciated!!
I have a black GT just like yours. I would say you don't need to drop it down a gear to blow past a school bus......that's the beauty of the Rocket, just goose the throttle in any gear and hang on!
I added a Madstad adjustable windshield to my 2021 GT, but it wasn't wide enough. I had a 24" wide windshield made and it gets the wind off my shoulders now. 800 mile days are easy on this bike. I had to make a mounting bracket for the windshield. I haven't cured all the wind issues but it is a bunch better than it was. I ride the western states and it can be problematic getting the gas tank close to plumb full. There are a number of stretches out here where you can just make it between gas stations. The fuel hits the bottom of the tank when filling and then you have to start trying to squeeze gas into the top part of the tank as I need it all to get from point to point without carrying a gas can. I kind of dought that you can actually get 4.8 gallon into the tank, but you can get close. The pannier zippers are bad. Mine are stuck and being replaced by Triumph.
Great review. I’ve been thinking of moving on from my Bonneville T120 to a Harley. This Rocket 3 might be a better choice though! I love your channel and respect your opinion.
My husband bought a 2021 new one this past summer the only things he mentioned is he wants the Werks exhaust added because the sounds isn’t as great as he would like. Also the gas mileage isn’t good you do have to stop more frequently. Other than that he absolutely loves it. As a passenger occasionally lol it’s okay for quick trips around town but more than an hour I’m out 😂.
Great Review!! I've had a 2010 Rocket III Touring for five years. (Flashed the ECU to get rid of the factory limitations) Sure would like to get a GT but by the time the price comes down I'll probably have a hard time holding it up :P. I love the Rocket. Next to that was my 1978 CB Honda 750 Four I bought new back in the day. Us rocket guys were sure waiting for the 2500's to get here and those that got one say it was worth the wait!!
Kevin, thank you for the video. I was just wondering, how do you film like you do like when you are riding & the video/camera is from your right side like that? Do you have someone helping you or something?
I just got a used 2013 touring model, stupid low miles, and I really, really like it. I have owned 5 Yamaha royal star ventures, those have been my favorite motorcycle of all time. I had a chance to change things up, and I took it. I really like the rocket3.
I own the GT and I agree with your review on everything. Both the good and bad. I have added a slightly larger windshield so the wind goes above my head for more comfort at speed. Not added the quick shifter yet.
beautiful bike, great choice, belated congratulations! i need to get on one of these and confirm that the 3 GT is the bike for me. as of now, i sure want to believe it is. i have looked at everything and although there are some great new bikes out there, this one comes out on top in my mind, every time. i remember when the first triumph rocket 3 came out in 2004. it is hard to believe it was 18 years ago. i remember i was at a car dealer test driving a porsche and i told the salesman that the new rocket was out. i thought he was going to wet his pants he wanted to get on his computer and absorb that new machine right then.
I wonder how the Rocket 3 compares to the Vmax 1700.... Also, I wonder if the old Rocket III compares, power wise, to the new Rocket 3. Of course, they all have more power than you will ever need...
Kevin, thank you for a super review. I own 2020 GW DCT Tour, love the bike. I am, however really hooked on the GT. I cannot have 2 bikes. too costly for me. I am 6'4"/207. Would you move from the GW to the GT? I am going to test ride soon. Not sure what to do. I so love riding the DCT. The best bike I have ever owned.
I just sold my Moto Guzzi Audace a couple of weeks ago because it got too heavy and awkward for my old and tired body. I was looking for a middle weight bike with an engine strong enough to be able to do some higher speed touring. I wasn't even considering a Triumph because of my memories of them from the 60's. I like the classic style so my salesman steered me towards a Bonneville. I now have one in my garage. I am impressed with what Triumph has done. Pretty bike, fairly powerful and well built. The Rockets are nice but way too big and heavy for me.
Great bike. Bought my 2020r with 740 miles on it 4 weeks ago. It currently has 5500 miles lol. Just rode from central Texas to sturgis and back a few days ago. Great trip. The rocket did great. Cruise control is a game changer lol. I have a 2017 hayabusa and a 2014 m109 also. Took the m109 to Florida a few months ago. Definitely would have loved cruise control lol. The rocket is a great mix between power and comfort.
You seem to have owned several motorcycles of different types. Would you discuss the different motorcycle types and how your motorcycle taste has changed over time for you?
I rode my friends Rocket 3 and I must admit it's possibly one of the best built motorcycle. Got to know these are built in Thailand. Awesome job by those folks in Thailand. Great review. I think you should review motorcycles once a while.
I was trying to figure out how this video was able to be taken. Then I noticed the shadow of a stalk at the rear of the motorcycle at about 38 second into the video, and another at the front of the motorcycle at about 14:10. There appeared to be something at the end of both stalks. A camera, perhaps?
@@MCrider Sorry! Great video, by the way. Very informative. The Rocket III sounds like a great motorcycle, but it is too expensive for me to consider buying.
How do you really feel about the Rocket 3? I love my Diavel Strada and everything about it except a couple of things. Like you said no bike is perfect. But glitchy electronics and a notchy transmission are things I'm used to by now.
If you love everything about it; then there isn't an "apart from"! This is a conflicting statement! You mean that you love "most" things (apart from). You own a phenomenal bike!
I ride a fair bit and live at one end of the Cherahola Skyway where many bikers consider a must do place. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a Rocket Three on the road. It’s a shame because I’ve seen them at shows in Dallas and the bike looks like a lot of fun.
Hi Kevin, do you still have this beast? 🙂 Just wanted to ask you something, I have an issue with mine (Rocket 3R 2021, bought new last autumn). While riding at certain speeds (70-100kph approx.), the bike shakes periodically - 1 second shake, 1 second calm and again... Mostly notable on the handlebars, but if I focus on it, it's like a "wave" which goes through the whole bike from the front to the back during that 1 second shake phase. Did you notice anything like that on yours? Or do you have any idea where can be a problem? I'm getting kind of desperate, 'cause I rode three Rockets other than mine and didn't noticed this behaviour on any of them and the dealership is out of ideas (changed both tires, tried some other stuff like suspension setup etc. but basically they don't even recognised the issue, which I don't understand at all). Thanks for any advice/reply you can give me. Keep up the good work with the channel, like many others have said, you're one of the rare reliable sources of information about bikes here ;-)
That thing is a total animal...lol I rode the R last year, its a bit too much bike for me being a 700 lbs beast(wet), im only 6 foot 200 lbs and have ridden sport bikes essentially my whole adult life. But its a beautiful machine regardless
A great bike but a little too heavy, like Goldwing and most of the Harleys are. Seems to not bother a lot of people, anyhow. Low end torque is something I like, I think the kind of bigblock-feeling is nice.
I’ve ridden my friend’s Yamaha MT10 and it is exactly as you stated a caged beast. I call it the angry hornet because it doesn’t want to go under 90 mph! It’s not a bike for cruising around slowly.
Kevin, I have a question for you. Why is it, that i have not seen or heard anyone on youtube, or else where talk about riding along side an 18 wheeler? When out riding, especially on the interstate, I will not ride beside an 18 wheeler. I'll decel just before I get to the back of the trailer, and then I wait for the car(s) in front of me to clear the nose of the 18 wheeler. Why do I do this? because those tires usually have 120psi in them. If you have ever seen an 18 wheeler tire blow off the rim? if yes, you know why. if no then maybe that is why no one has made a video regarding this. we've seen videos of small trailer tires blowing out, and throwing trash into the road. an 18 wheeler tire can kill a motorcyclist, if not instantly, by making the motorcyclist crash. one of these tires can knock the motorcyclist off their bike, or knock the bike out from under them. What are your thoughts?
Stop it I told the misses I won’t buy or sell a bike next year which I have done for the last 5 years, I am a Triumph man and currently ride a Bonneville T120 I love the Rocket 3 gt but am concerned about the small tank and mileage
Used to ride triumph, went Harley. Triumph doesn’t offer dealer support. So few dealers if you aren’t decent mechanic would be tough to manage having to take the bike an hour away for service. Another point, the bags on the r3 don’t look right. And multiple reviews I see show it kicks up water off the back tire right into your lower back if you ride in rain. Love the look and power of the bike, but I like my 21 street glide special better.
Never liked forward controls, probably never will, you can't stand up on them. A friend of mine had an early touring model and something went wrong with the tranny, $!,800 to fix. I hope they fixed that problem. They are nice looking bike but frankly I don't think they're for me, tourings my thing.
Triumph and BSA had a bike - a 750cc triple in the 1968 - and Triumph called it Trident, BSA called it Rocket 3. Now, I don't know why Triumph named this bike Rocket and not Trident but there at least in my mind is sort of an association to that triple. Actually, Triumph took the Trident name out of the drawer with presentation of the 660 triple lately. Which seems to be a nice and light bike. I was very delighted to see the Rocket 3 2500 lose weight (almost 40 kilos maybe?) but it still is a bit too heavy for my use.
@@iivaridark6850 Before you have too many pre conceptions, go for a test ride and check it out. The 2300 was pretty darn good, chances are the 2500 is better than the 2300. Njoy 👍
How does your Gold Wing feel about you hopping on that Rocket? Just a joke, the worst think I have read about the Rocket is the heat that comes off the engine. Like you said all that power and giant motor all that heat has to go somewhere. Enjoy
As a Brit, I am not sure this bike doesn't make us Brits look nuts making a bike this extreme - I note that nobody has followed it up with an imitation. Just don't anyone buy this who can't resist doing 100mph everywhere!!
I don’t think it makes us looks nuts , it show how well we are at engineering and what a great nation we was in the distance past, this is the best of British, i ride 2016 rocket the engineering is brilliant. We done a great job
I picked up a speed triple which I so love. This looks like such a beast. I'm just a little surprised that you are riding in jeans unless they have protection in them?
Every year motorcycles are redesigned to be faster and faster. I wish manufacturers could focus on safety. A rider ought to survive a crash with relatively minor injuries at least at the speed that most crashes happen.
Stay with your Chevy. Risk is a part of motorcycling. If you do not want to take the risk, don't ride. I am 70 years old, and have nearly 500k miles in the saddle with one major accident. I am NOT a 'squid'.

Nice! Congrats! My budget doesn't allow for more than my 2009 V-Star 950 Touring; however, I certainly enjoyed the ride along, thanks Kevin.

If I were to buy a cruiser. It would be this, with no other competitor. It looks insane!
The BMW R18 is close, and more like a classic cruiser, but you would still want a Rocket I reckon! 🚀 I just ordered mine - roll on January!

Yeah, I think the face shield on my helmet is bigger than that windshield, so , why bother at all?
Get the quick shifter. Really helps you accelerate quicker, not having to work the clutch between each shift.
What windshield? The Powerblade is $600 after import duty and the PUIG doesn't exactly fit. Where did you find it?
I have a passion myself for the Rocket.
Rocket 3 and uour wife are both 100% keepers.
Nice review, thank you, currently riding a 2019 Bonneville Speedmaster, have 18K on it, great bike, looking at a 2022 Rocket 3 GT next week

Would you move from the GW to the GT? I am going to test ride soon. Not sure what to do. I so love riding the DCT. The best bike I have ever owned.
I just traded my 2019 Fat Boy for a 2022 Rocket 3 GT 221 that has twice the HP and Torque. Summer will go by fast! 🔥😎
Greetings from the PPRC GOOD video may have to check one out.
I rode my friends Rocket 3 and I must admit it's possibly one of the best built motorcycle. Got to know these are built in Thailand. Awesome job by those folks in Thailand. Great review. I think you should review motorcycles once a while.
Your review has pushed me closer to purchasing the rocket ! . Also , what brand of motorcycle dolly is under that gt3 ? . Thanks
You,ll not regret it 🚀🚀

I was trying to figure out how this video was able to be taken. Then I noticed the shadow of a stalk at the rear of the motorcycle at about 38 second into the video, and another at the front of the motorcycle at about 14:10. There appeared to be something at the end of both stalks. A camera, perhaps?
Shhh...don't tell my secrets. ;)
@@MCrider Sorry! Great video, by the way. Very informative. The Rocket III sounds like a great motorcycle, but it is too expensive for me to consider buying.
Awesome video. Can you fit a decent amount of clothes in those bags?
Really enjoyed that. Thank you.
Great review, thanks.
I ride a fair bit and live at one end of the Cherahola Skyway where many bikers consider a must do place. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a Rocket Three on the road. It’s a shame because I’ve seen them at shows in Dallas and the bike looks like a lot of fun.
A review from one of the best riders in the world! What's not to love!
I'm looking at cafe truxton????
What’s the brand name on your luggage bags?
That's a sharp bike man...congrats!
Thanks!
Hi Kevin, do you still have this beast? 🙂
Just wanted to ask you something, I have an issue with mine (Rocket 3R 2021, bought new last autumn).
Keep up the good work with the channel, like many others have said, you're one of the rare reliable sources of information about bikes here ;-)
have always loved the Rocket 3, but where I live the insurance is over $900 a year as a second bike
What motorcycle stand are you using?
Hi Kevin, could I please ask what is the title of the intro music. Cheers. Gordon
It has no title…I mixed it from some audio samples. 👍🏻
it looked like the tail lndicators are mounted on the swing arm ? no can't be ?
That thing is a total animal...lol
I rode the R last year, its a bit too much bike for me being a 700 lbs beast(wet), im only 6 foot 200 lbs and have ridden sport bikes essentially my whole adult life. But its a beautiful machine regardless
A great bike but a little too heavy, like Goldwing and most of the Harleys are. Seems to not bother a lot of people, anyhow. Low end torque is something I like, I think the kind of bigblock-feeling is nice.
Not as heavy as it looks, really!
I enjoyed the “sappy” stuff …..carry on.
I’ve ridden my friend’s Yamaha MT10 and it is exactly as you stated a caged beast. I call it the angry hornet because it doesn’t want to go under 90 mph! It’s not a bike for cruising around slowly.
What a dream....
Nice bike
Does it have the reverse control?
Thanks Kevin. Very objective review. 👍
Cool bike
Kevin, I have a question for you. Why is it, that i have not seen or heard anyone on youtube, or else where talk about riding along side an 18 wheeler?
When out riding, especially on the interstate, I will not ride beside an 18 wheeler. I'll decel just before I get to the back of the trailer,
and then I wait for the car(s) in front of me to clear the nose of the 18 wheeler. Why do I do this? because those tires usually have 120psi in them.
If you have ever seen an 18 wheeler tire blow off the rim? if yes, you know why. if no then maybe that is why no one has made a video regarding this.
we've seen videos of small trailer tires blowing out, and throwing trash into the road. an 18 wheeler tire can kill a motorcyclist, if not instantly,
by making the motorcyclist crash. one of these tires can knock the motorcyclist off their bike, or knock the bike out from under them.
What are your thoughts?
Do you still have your Challenger?
Well done. Thx for Ducati comp. I'm 6'4" 275#. Too tall & fat for bike? I was on Fat Bob. Also great wife=great life!
Is amazing bike ❤ and this GT segment black is something Else 🤩
You're very lucky with your wife Kevin. My wife guilt trips me with every ride. I just have to ignore her and tell her to find her joy in life.
A true triumph
How was the heat on your leg ?
It gets warm, especially when the outside temperature is high.
How is Kevin getting that great alongside footage??
Camera on a stick.
Stop it I told the misses I won’t buy or sell a bike next year which I have done for the last 5 years, I am a Triumph man and currently ride a Bonneville T120 I love the Rocket 3 gt but am concerned about the small tank and mileage
Awesome bike! Congratulations, Kevin.
Thanks!
Dealer support is a big issue if there is not a Triumph dealer near you.
So, does your Rocket III make your old Valkyrie seem tame by comparison?
Yes, this bike has much more get up and go.
Not my style, but 160 horses sounds pretty stout!
Youda best, Kevin!!😎
This is the bike that I want!
They're badass alright
Never liked forward controls, probably never will, you can't stand up on them. A friend of mine had an early touring model and something went wrong with the tranny, $!,800 to fix. I hope they fixed that problem. They are nice looking bike but frankly I don't think they're for me, tourings my thing.
I sold my HD Fat Bob s for the gt also🤣😂
Low or no windshield make my neck hurt
Ok, the $64,000 question, does Mrs. Morris get to ride the Rocket III ???? If not, why not???
She has ridden on the back and has no desire to swap positions. ;)
We are Rocket 3 GT focused, check us out
R is definitely more aggressive!
Lol if you think that screen is hard to read you should try the older rocket 3 roadster its crap!
Very Nice!
A nice enough bike but I just have to wonder about their marketing. What are they aiming for with a name like "Rocket"?
What would you call it?
@@MCrider Knowing 'Rocket' is not a good name does not mean I know one that would work.
@@iivaridark6850
Before you have too many pre conceptions, go for a test ride and check it out.
You are correct sir. I'm a Texan but worked in the UK. You guys kick butt.@@mugflump
Like the older style Rocket 3 a lot better
I picked up a speed triple which I so love. This looks like such a beast. I'm just a little surprised that you are riding in jeans unless they have protection in them?
Every year motorcycles are redesigned to be faster and faster. I wish manufacturers could focus on safety. A rider ought to survive a crash with relatively minor injuries at least at the speed that most crashes happen.
What safety features would you add to the Rocket that it does not have?
Stay with your Chevy. Risk is a part of motorcycling. If you do not want to take the risk, don't ride. I am 70 years old, and have nearly 500k miles in the saddle with one major accident. I am NOT a 'squid'.
You must be a huge guy! The bike looks tiny with you on it!
More torque, and hp then my minivan. That's ridiculous 😀😀
