In 2018, Skynet has destroyed most of humanity and survivors have been hiding underground from an army of machines, known as "Terminators". After a failed attack on a Skynet base, John Connor, the man fated to lead the Resistance is the sole survivor. On the other hand, Marcus Wright, who only remembers being on death row, meets Kyle Reese and it is believed by Connor that he was sent from the future to kill him. Now Marcus and John must unlikely join forces in order to save Kyle Reese and the humans captured by the machines.

Agree - An area of the series thats still worth exploring
Well, T3 needs to bring that air of nostalgia and introduce Judgment Day, so I don't see how it could have been so different. But Genesis and, especially, Dark Fate, yeah, they don't have balls.
The original ending was going to be even more of a plot twist, with Connor being killed and Catherine (his wife) grafting his face onto Marcus, so he could pretend to be Connor.
And with her coaching him on how to act.
With his databases and so on on SkyNet, he carries on the war and the legacy and legend of John Connor.
It even fits in with the original timeline .... Reece doesn't know about this.
But they chickened out.

This is Terminator IV.
The only Terminator film that showed us something different, the continuity of the story. A film with a serious and believable script, its own look and atmosphere, good performances, and technically excellent.
I am convinced that early reviews sank this movie. The critics judged it negatively and a lot of people let those reviews influence their opinions. But if you sit down to watch this, with no influence anywhere, this is a good movie. It has a style, a look(seriously, any one shot in this movie looks 100x more impressive and beautiful than the whole of Terminator Genesys.), atmosphere, good performances, it takes itself seriously enough, etc. Would you believe, I think many people immediately dismissed it because McG decided to go with a monochrome look as opposed to the blue tint James Cameron used AND because they also made the decision to use real guns and real bullets instead of the laser guns that were in the originals. That's my opinion.
I agree 100%. Sure, Salvation was different in terms of look than previous films (Mad Max feel), but it tool itself seriously. That is what I appreciated about this film. Genisys was a pile of trash. A parody. It failed on every level. Easily the worst Terminator film. I thought Salvation was headed in the right direction. Not to mentioned John Connor played by Christian Bale. It's a shame early reviews killed any hope for this trilogy to move forward. Instead we get the comedy of Genisys with Jai Courtney....

@@F3RX The lasers came later in the future war which is what we saw in 2029. This film was set in 2018, so earlier in the war before that technology was available.
@@shan4680exactly, it’s like they expected the resistance to automatically have that type of technology immediately after humanity almost got nuked out of existence. Even the stuff they had in salvation would take time to organize and utilize for combat, that’s not including the factor that most of the worlds military’s and weapons were destroyed in the nuke. So it would take time for survivors from all over the world to even come to a truce in order to fight the machines that are actively trying to kill them.

This had the potential to be the start of another great Terminator trilogy. It was really enjoyable and I loved the focus on the war on machines after the nuclear strike.
Too bad critics hated the film and it got ended like this.
The original ending was that jhon died and then they were suppose to move forward with a future war terminator series that's one thing Christian bale hated he wished the jhon connor death story would be better but James Cameron didn't think so
There is actually a continuation of this movie in one of the comics. It takes place after the events of this movie and the comic book reintroduces Marcus Wright.
I do think it was over-hated but I'd be lying if I said it lived up to this trailer. It was a fun movie but man I expected so much more. It was really damn close to being a great movie.

Hell, those last two films are so bad, they have made me reconsider my opinion of rise of the machines. I'm very curious as to all the people who complained about Rise of the Machines and Salvation and Got Genysis and Dark Fate which made more money than both and with a little tweeking would have filled out a great trilogy than wasting time in last two.
@EmeraldBay Because back in 2009 Salvation was quite clearly the weakest Terminator movie up until that point. Ok some said it was better than T3, but most said it was weakest movie in the franchise at that point...
That being said, I really wished they had built on Salvation instead of trying to reboot the franchise 2 times over. Sadly because of certain legal issues behind the scenes, the planned 2 sequels for Salvation never happened.

I don't know why this movie was so hated. Sure it may not be as good as T-2, but it's still a really great movie! Awesome choice for actors, cool plot, amazing setting, and the visuals and CGI are jaw dropingly great!

Agree - I come back and rewatch the trailer just for its own sake a few times a year. So much attention to detail here, you can tell the editor really put their best into this one.
The trailer absolutely destroyed the movie because it spoiled the big twist that the hole story is about, it should be a shock in the theatres but no, throw every single detail on the trailer and let anybody have no surprises

Nah its terrible. It revealed massive plot point. I watched the movie without seeing any trailers and didn't had any idea whatsoever that Marcus is a infiltrating terminator. I was shocked when I got to know it.

Salvation is better than Genysis and Dark fate. This movie was actually heading towards an ending. If they made one more movie with the same cast as salvation and we got to see the humans and machines go head to head. That would’ve been awesome.

I know i'm in the minority on this one, but I don't care, I liked this movie a lot. It had so many issues though and i'm not gonna try to change anyones mind, but I still thought this film was brilliant for what it tried to do.

Terminator salvation was the best movie since Terminator 2 Judgment day, it was a breath of fresh air and would have saved the series from the disastrous "Terminator Genisys" which just killed the series. I am a great terminator series fan and I want my refund for Terminator Genisys!!!!!!

With time Salvation is actually growing to be a good film standing among the other films. I know T1 T2 are revered but.. ending of T3 and Salvation are not bad. The scenery in Salvation is very good.

the best terminator since the original two. I have to give it to MCG this movie was rugged, balls to the wall and the cinematography was amazing. bravo. this is one of those movies that if I turn it on I will watch it to the end every time. a classic that will stand the test of time.

NIN is perfect for this trailer. Very atmosphere fitting, gritty and dark. Love it
I can't believe they didn't do this. But think about what they could've set up perfectly in this movie. They have Marcus. Maybe he could've been the missing link John never talked about, the character that helped him most of all win the war. Let's say instead of being Skynet's ultimate weapon against John Connor, let's say Marcus was just an experiment to see if they could replicate human tissue and create a living android like the Terminator. He's just one of a series. John rescues him instead of tries to destroy him... because John is a good guy after all. He's the savior of the human race after all. They decide to work together and by the end of the film - just to tie into the sequel, Marcus helps John capture a T-101 / Arnold Terminator for reprogramming, which of course leads into T2. Marcus ends up being John's ultimate weapon against Skynet.
What they originally were going to do is have Connor die at the end, and Katherine the only person who knows the importance of John Connors legacy, she would have grafted John’s face or Marcus’s and gone on to teach him how to act like John in public. It would have been an interesting twist. But test audiences didn’t like it so they changed it to wear John got Marcus heart in a transplant.

It's still not a GREAT movie by any means but I would suggest checking Salvation out again if you have the chance. It's actually a lot better on a repeated viewing. I watched it again the other day for the first time since seeing it in theaters...the story isn't anything special but visually? This movie is a sight to behold. Say what you want about Salvation but at least it didn't go the Gensisy route and just do the same shit we've seen again and again from this franchise. It tried something different, with very mixed results but, I still think Salvation is better than Genisys.

This is the only Terminator movie I really enjoyed since T1 and T2. It has a nice Metro 2033 or even a Mad Max kind of dystopian atmosphere. But I was surprised that Christian Bale was cast as John Connor, he is so intense and creepy it's much easier to imagine him as an actual terminator.
I'd like how this movie was at least different and tried to do what happened after T2 or T3 but no people wanted to hate on it so we got rehashed terminator movies, instead of a new trilogy with the war going on.
