Wealth doesnt mainly come from labor it comes mainly from thought, yes it takes labor to bring that thought into reality, but that is why there's a heirarchy in any business. Obviously it comes from thought first, hence why engineers are paid more than box packers, managers are paid more than engineers, and executives more than managers. Obviously.

I get angered everytime my dad immediately assumes that poor people & poor neighborhoods are evil. It's like the more fortunate people don't even get past the point of scratching the surface in terms of getting to know what people in poverty are going through. They also keep saying that poor people are lazy, drugged, & mentally ill, even though many of them may either have lost everything, have been dealt a terrible hand, or have been working hard for years, only to be payed a nickel. Near where I live, I saw a homeless person who was willing to remove the weeds from nearby curbs to receive the money needed to survive. It may even make sense to say that the reason why some homeless people are junkies is because they have become so miserable from their horrific living standards that they give up on reality altogether. If the poor aren't given the help they need, they'll have a chance of sinking deeper & deeper towards death.

    There are tiers of wealth.
Billionaires are well past the point where you are maximizing leverage and a product line and have once again gotten to the point where you will trade all your lifetime for your living.
Being poor will keep you miserable forever, but so will heading towards the richest of the rich. Don't get greedy on your path to wealth and higher living and you will hit that sweet spot where you have more than enough capital for the rest of you and your family's lives but also have an insane amount of your own time freed up.
Balance in all things. Too much OR too little, are consistently shown to be no good.

I think the reason it hurts so much to lose money as a billionaire is that their whole persona/identity centers around being rich. Take their money and they feel like they have nothing else. Their material possessions are so vast and high maintenance they need constant cashflow to keep them. This is literally the definition of “if you own too much stuff, your stuff will start to own you.”
The true measure of success is not how much you have but how much you can live without. These people cannot live without. I don’t think billionaires are successful.

Hence why everyone talks about that one study where if you make more than 80k USD it doesnt really make you happier because youve already satisfied all your baseline needs. Just as Ari said, we have HVAC, cars, clean water, dam near unlimited food of all cultures within a metro area. The saying that there is no such thins as an ethical billionaire really hit me once I realized that power attracts the most corruptible. Or power corrupts. I think that there are plenty of sayings surrounding how only the most twisted amongst us would do anything for this type of power. Obviously, some money probably buys some level of happiness, realistically. If you have $0 in your account, good luck with food, shelter, and paying for healthcare, etc. However, I think that Jake truly hits this one strongly in pointing out that *billionaires* more often than not are nut whacks seeking to hoard cash.

My father was a multimillionaire who owned his own practice. The good thing I can say about him is that he was always excpetionally generous, paying for other family's meals at buffets, helping his staff with education funds for their kids, and giving/"employing" various members of our church frequently with jobs he knew they needed. His mental illness though was sexaddiction, and it truly brought more pain into his life than he ever would have had otherwise.

Also how you made your wealth unethical/criminal vs. ethical/honest vs. inheritance is a huge factor on happiness. There are only a few billionaires.
