Here are a few anecdotes to add to your wealth of info: 1-The full model number is U6039-030; the suffix indicated that the U5909 cleaning tools were included with purchase. 2-The color scheme is sea blue & oyster white. 3-The other Hoover USA upright vac in the same color combo was the Convertible Estate U4103. 4-The standard Dial-A-Matic U5015 in Persian Gold & Oyster White was marketed at the same time. 5-The Floor-AMatic F5019 was sold around the same time. 6-Your D-A-M and cleaners mentioned here & some others (except the F5019) were in the 1978 catalog page I saw online; it may have also been marketed a couple years before, but I'm unsure. 7-The flourish, or insignia, on the front of the bag compartment was used in that era to denote top of the line cleaners. Congrats on owning such a classic Hoover.
I got an orange that i bought over the summer, doesn`t have the power drive feature though, but it sure does pretty good sucking for a direct air machine, Used upstairs the other day doing some vacuuming and decided to clean the dog bed in my Nana & Papa`s room and did pretty good sucking up dog hair, and also we have a Hoover WindTunnel high performance, . that thing is a beast when I comes to cleaning, same with the hose, I`d recommend that brand to anybody, especially pet owners..
I see that your Dial a matic sounds just as good.
It does, though the transmission may need to be regreased.

One of my favorite Dial a matic models
Mine too, other than the 1136.
I just got one for free yesterday. Cleaned it out and it runs flawlessly. Now i have to source the attachments.

Other sources state the 030 was added because the plug changed to the rectangular one used later on.
Always wanted one since I was in elementary school 😂
This is also the model they had on Roseanne. There is an episode where Dan is working on it at the kitchen table.
These are very popular vacuum cleaners

Fun fact, these actually AREN'T direct air cleaners, these are actually clean air (the first design too I might add).
@@graysonsvacsandmowers5426 oh OK.
In some British countries it’s referred as the convertibles
That's very funny to me, and what we call the Convertible over here, they call the Senior.
Need a new trans for mine.
If you can find a replacement trans on eBay, I would go for it. I believe the one for a Hoover Concept One may fit the DAM.
Doesn’t sound nearly as loud as the old elites
