Dad my arm is tired! Many years ago (60) we (dad, mom & my 2 brother's) were fishing for silver salmon in Alaska. We were catching so many silvers and if my dad thought he saw a it turning color (it wasn't) he made us release it & catch another to the point of sore arms. So not buying your sore arm 😂 lol. The limit was 3 salmon per person & many times we came back with 15 fish. Incredible fishing. Love your videos. Keep it up.
😂 It’s mainly because of my tennis elbow that is very slowly getting better. The reason for the late reply is I’m just getting back from the annual ‘Steelhead Road Trip.’ It was a busy 3 days, but we caught some incredible steelhead! Thanks for the compliment! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. This was a good one, John is a hoot to fish with.
Take away from the day on the river: John does pretty well under pressure, your mom is happy that you only broke your $260.00 reel & you need to stay away from slippery cliff’s next to the river! I just saw the video when you got your reel back, just like new!!
Oh no! That experience reiterated my usual tactic of carrying 2 or 3 rods. And thank you! It was a fun one, I was laughing while editing as much as I was that day. 😊
Nice video! I’ve broken multiple reels fishing slippery beaches in SE Alaska. Broken body parts end up being worse in every respect. Maybe your pal should wait on a new Vanford?? Shimano should be coming out with an update model this year.
Thank you! I sent the reel in for repair and still waiting to hear from Shimano. The tech on the phone told me it’s $35 for labor for the repair. I’m not sure yet if they will charge me for the parts, probably.
Ummm, should tell your buddy his backpack will be the one thing that floats if he falls in deep fast current... Thats why dry bags are popular for wading, they hold air and act as a life jacket if you fall in.
Lol $260? What a joke I run okuma caymar 4000 and have ate it on rocks and dropped ‘em and all of it. $40 bi mart. You need to simplify in my opinion because this happens. 8 years ago a broke two $400 rods and all the reels over the years. Gotta learn from that as well. Just like anything in fishing adapt and learn. Love the videos man. I like how you show the real part of fish hunting ! It’s a passion for sure!
😂 I’m using pretty careful. This has been a rough year; broke the reel, torn my new waders stepping over a guardrail, got my truck stuck and had to use the satellite messenger to get help. I’m a mess! 🤣
First off, G.I. Joe action figures debuted in 1964, at a cost of about 4 to 5 dollars. And the mandatory moment of silence for the Vanford.......................glad you weren't hurt, Barry, reels can be fixed or replaced. That being said, 😂! And this from the King of crash and burn himself. Way to redeem yourself! Dandy buck that made my arm sore just watching you! And John nailed one, too, perfect ending! So was the E6X that caught your fish the virgin? Just wondering if you'd broke her in. I'd guess yes, if I had to. I see alot of people using the DRO beads now. This video had it all, didn't it? Snorkel surveys in Washington have been delayed, suspended in a safety stand-down since 2 WDFW employees drowned in separate incidents. The first during a steelhead snorkeling survey, but the last one was operating a Screw Trap on the Duckabush River in Hood Canal. Both were women, the last one found wearing hip waders and no PFD. Great video, Barry, thanks for sharing!
Thanks William! Sorry for the late reply, Dave and I have been on the annual road trip since Friday morning. It was a fun one, I can’t wait to share the videos. Yep, that was the first fish on that 1143. I’m glad I just swapped reels to break her in. That’s sad about the Fish and Game deaths. That’s horrible! Hopefully they make some policy changes to make sure those mistakes don’t happen again. 😞
I’ve caught fish on $30 dollar reels, but once I started fishing Vanfords, I will keep paying the price for them. They are incredible reels: the 3000 weighs 6.3 oz., 6.4:1 gear ratio for 37” of line pick up per turn of the handle. Very smooth and great drag. I sent it in for repair, I’ll do an update once I find out what the repair cost will be. 🤞🏼
I have a whole graveyard of reels lol. That’s steel hunting!

😁 Yes mom, I’ll be careful! 😁
Blew up two reels yesterday but had my trusty Shimano as backup so it was all good. Another great video thanks for sharing.

these two are great
We’re something alright! 😁

Try the Piscifun Carbon X II 3000 or 2000 spinning reels, glad your ok. I do enjoy and learn from these videos.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback!
I’m pretty happy with my Vanfords, that fall probably would have broke any reel handle.
Always bring back up!
Yep! Normally I have 2 or 3. A few times I’ve only carried 1 rod, like on the scouting trip. I’m not doing that again! 😁

Interesting, I’ll let him know. Dry bags are a good idea for winter steelhead season anyway!

Sorry about the reel, good thing you brought two!
No kidding, I’m at least going to carry 2 from now on. If I was solo with 1 rod, I would have been heading home.
Only broke one rod and reel man that ain’t bad at all I break one of each every season lol

T hat is why I don't buy $200 reels $80 works just as good and I've had them for years
