    I had no idea the Potomac River was so huge. Looked like another great day.

      Thanks so much for watching, my friend. Yes it was a nice day for sure. The Potomac gets really wide out there in eastern VA/MD. I hiked some places on the river that are farther downstream and it's double what you see in this video. It gets up to 6 or 7 miles wide just before the confluence with the Chesapeake Bay. Of course, even in this spot, the river is salty and it contains a lot of saltwater marine life like crabs and sharks. Thanks again for watching!

      Thanks for checking out the video, my friend. Indeed the Potomac River offers some amazing adventure opportunities from its humble beginnings high in the Virginia and West Virginia mountains to the huge behemoth it becomes just before emptying into the Chesapeake Bay. Surprisingly there are not a lot of videos that I have seen. I created a "Potomac River" playlist on my channel because I thought these spots deserved some attention. Thanks again for watching!

    Nice & flat. That Hiking Guy would appreciate these trails and he wouldn't pant so bad. Another nice spot you have reviewed for us. My kind of place. You need a little traveling fishing rod to throw a bait out every now & then. Cool shark tooth.

    • @SmellNRoses

      Adventure Outdoors yeah not much elevation gain so its ideal for That Hiking Guy, there are sharks in the water though so I don't know how close he'll want to get. LOL! Yes this is a very nice park and I enjoyed the visit. I've been lucky to find quite a few sharks teeth along the banks of the Potomac. I doubt I'd be as lucky with the fishing pole you suggest. I think I was 7 or 8 years old the last time I went fishing! Thanks so much for checking out my video, much appreciated!

    Cool adventure!! I have to agree with others that the river is huge!! Beautiful park...thanks for sharing!!

      Yeah I estimated it to be roughly about two miles across the river in this area, though I have hiked on the Potomac further down river, and it opens on up to 6 or 7 miles wide in places. It's pretty amazing how much water it moves on out to the Chesapeake Bay. Thanks so much for checking out my video, I really appreciate it!

      It was a nice place to visit and fantastic views along the river. I did mostly have the place to myself. I saw one other person arriving to the parking as I was pulling out. Thanks so much for watching!

      Thanks for watching, my friend. It is a really nice park. I've never had any luck at all finding shark teeth at the ocean or in other places, but I've found dozens of them at various spots along the Potomac River. Its a real treasure trove for fossil hunters.

      Thanks for watching. I was very careful out on that ledge, being aware that since its just dirt (and not rock) it could easily collapse at any time. It was pretty cool to find another shark tooth, I've been pretty fortunate to find a few dozen on my various Potomac River adventures. Glad you enjoyed the video, my friend, as always I appreciate your views and comments.

    Hello (waving from the MD side of the Potomac). Caledon is further north than I thought. I'll need to check that one out! I'm really bad at finding sharks teeth, no matter how long I look, I've never found any.

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  7 років тому +1

      I am pretty bad at finding sharks teeth too, my friend. I've never found one at the ocean or on any other river. I have found dozens and dozens of them on the Potomac though, so this is the place to go for amateurs like us LOL! Yeah Caledon would not be a long drive for you and its a small but very nice park. I don't know if you do any biking, but if you have a bike this place is ideal for it, as many of the "trails" are gravel or dirt surface roads. Thanks so much for watching!

      @SmellNRoses  7 років тому

      Thanks for watching, my friend. Yes the history of that old port was really interesting to learn about. No evidence remains of what was the port though, only the stories. It is a great place to hike or just to go relax with views of the river, peaceful place.

    Looked like a really nice park to explore. Hope that I can make it to that part of Virginia one day. It's really the only area of the state that I haven't seen yet. Liked that view at 5:21, would have made a nice picture. Cool shark tooth as well, saw that pic on your instagram... Thanks for sharing your hike with us.

      I think you would enjoy the Northern Neck area. There are some really interesting parks and other public lands out there, and it has a very remote feel to it, even though its only an hour or so to Richmond or northern Virginia. I got pretty lucky finding the shark tooth, cause I really didn't have time to spare, but I knew if I spent a few minutes looking around I'd find something. That view at 5:21 is looking out over Calendon Marsh, you can see it in the aerial view on the Mapper. I kind of regret that I didn't have time to hike out the Rookery Spur Trail for another overlook of Calendon Marsh, but again just short on time. I'd definitely make another visit to this park if I'm ever in the area again. Great views of the Potomac. Thanks so much for checking out the video, I really appreciate it!

    Great shark's tooth. It still doesn't quite feel like fall here in southeast NC, unfortunately. But I can feel the fall air in this video!!!

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  7 років тому

      I actually shot this video a few days before the official start of fall, but there were a few trees turning lighter yellow out in that area. The fall colors are a little more prevalent in my home area near the Blue Ridge Mountains. Peak colors should arrive earlier than normal this year I think.

    Nice views from the other side of the fence! lol The Potomac River is wide! Beautiful area and good find. Did you make a video about a year or so ago in this general area?

    • @SmellNRoses
      @SmellNRoses  7 років тому +1

      A fence with a sign is practically an invitation to cross. LOL! The Potomac is definitely very wide out in that area. This isn't too far from where it empties into the Chesapeake Bay. Yes, back in 2016, when I stayed nearby for an extended period for work, I visited and uploaded videos from several locations along the Potomac in this area. Caledon was one spot I did not get to back then. Thanks so much for checking out the video, my friend!

      I'm very sorry you were unable to walk the trails and fully experience the park in person. Did you get to see the old house and visitor center? When I was there, the visitor center was closed for some renovations so I couldn't go inside. Perhaps in the future you'll have a chance to see more of the park and go down to the river overlooks. I'm glad my video helped give you an idea of what its like out there. Thanks again for watching, I really appreciate it!
