The river is definitely huge out in that area, 6 miles across...that makes rivers back in my home area look like little creeks! It is a great area to capture bird sights and sounds, especially around those marsh areas. Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you so much for watching and for leaving a comment. I appreciate your support!
Really nice spot. I hope that there are provisions in place to help curve the pollution. It is such a natural treasure. Cool teeth when I was younger I collected then In Fla. at grandmas. Lots of fun and can make some cool decorations with them. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah I was impressed with this spot, and ended up going out there a half dozen times and just enjoying the place. I'm not sure exactly what is being done, but I understand there are efforts being made to clean up the river. As I understand it, conditions now days are significantly better than in the past. The Potomac is one of the major rivers flowing into the Chesapeake Bay, so what goes on in the river affects the Bay as well. Interestingly enough, just a couple of miles down river from this spot is a popular swimming beach, and no pollution warning signs are up down there...go figure! LOL! Yeah I was stoked to find some shark teeth, it was a lot of fun to collect a few. Thanks for watching, my friend!
Very cool beach exploration! I really like the cliff-like walls on your right (as walk towards the marshy area). They give you a 'tunnel-like' experience! Nice finds with the shark teeth.
Yeah the bluff is really nice, in a couple of spots I was wondering what would happen if you were out there at high tide, could you get cut off? Turns out the tide was coming in while I was there and I made it back LOL! I was stoked to find the shark teeth! Thanks for watching!
Another great video as usual. I have never seen a river that wide. It makes the rivers around here look like ditches. Lol. I found a new place to hike just about twenty minutes from home. I have lived here ten years and never knew it was there. It's one of the most beautiful places I have hiked in along time. Can't wait to go back and explore it again.
Indeed the river is incredible in this area, you can barely see any land on the other side. Congrats on finding the new hiking spot, you should shoot a video out there so we can see what it looks like. I always feel funny when I "discover" something that has been there for a while and I just didn't know about it. LOL! Thanks for watching, man!
สาวอีสานในแคนาดา - Yes hopefully you can visit USA sometime, its a huge country with so many great places to see. I hope I can visit Canada someday, maybe even Thailand too. That would be awesome!
+Smell N Roses I welcome too if you visit here can can go hiking or camping with my husband or Visit in Thailand I will back there every winter here I will build small resort there what ever you want see there I can show super nice place for you and I am welcome anytime friend. I am will be have visa USA for sure visit there.
Thanks, man! I normally don't care too much about "beaches" but this was cool spot. It was interesting how the river eroded the bluff until the trees just dropped straight down LOL! I was stoked to find the shark teeth, had been hunting them for a while at various spots but had previously always come up empty handed. Thanks for watching, my friend!
It is sad, but here in Virginia I don't trust any waterway east of the mountains. Many rivers have signs warning you not to eat fish and others have the swim advisory. Sadly, the Potomac is one of the worst affected, though some improvements have been made in recent years. Thanks for watching!
Iguess the Potomac River got polluted by politics after if flows through DC LOL!!! I've seen people swimming in it in other spots but I wouldn't. I got in it up to my ankles hunting shark teeth but couldn't wait to get a shower and change of clothes after. I hope my feet don't rot off! Finding the shark teeth was definitely cool, a bucket list item! Thanks for watching, man!
Wow, as with many I had heard of the Potomac, but this is vastly different then what I had imagined. It is such a shame that such a beautiful and historic site is so badly polluted! A real shame! Congrats on the shark teeth. Thank You for taking us on another beautiful and scenic hike my Friend!
Outside of my area, the Potomac is probably most closely associated with Washington, D.C., since it flows right through the city...given then current state of our politics, that's probably why the river is so polluted LOL! But that's a whole other story haha! The river is also the dividing line between Virginia and Maryland. Other than the contamination, its a beautiful river with many great public lands along its banks. Over the last couple of months I've actually visited enough places along the river that I decided to create a "Potomac River Adventures" playlist on my channel. In case you missed it, go back when you have a few moments and check out my 'Great Falls of the Potomac' and my 'Hiking the River Trail at Great Falls' videos, both are in the playlist. The falls are extraordinary, and that River Trail is one of the best hikes I've ever done. Yeah finding the shark teeth was really cool too, a bucket list item LOL! Thanks so much for watching!
You are probably correct on the pollution cause my Friend LOL I will go back and do a marathon watch of the playlist, especially after seeing your Great Falls video!!! I had not realized many of these were connected with the Potomac, I am surprised at the differing geography along it. Thanks for sharing these!!!
Man, that is a gorgeous beach area. It looked like you had it all to yourself. Too bad about the water quality of the Potomac River. Very sad. I really liked the spot where you were walking along the bluff. The colors of the bluff were amazing. Was that a spring or just a natural drainage from the surrounding area at 6:20? Persistence paid off and rewarded you with some shark teeth! Perfect! Thanks for taking us along. Take care, friend.
It is a great spot. I pretty much had it to myself on this day, but I went back another time to look for more teeth and found a few people there. This site is kind of out in the boonies and during the week is not too heavily visited. The bluff was really cool. I think that might have been a spring, there had not been any recent rains to run off. I also scrambled up the bluff in one spot that was kind of washed out and found that up above there is just a huge corn field. Very interesting bushwhacking through a cornfield but we'll save that story for another time LOL! I was stoked to find the shark teeth, I had been hunting for some for quite a while on the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers and along the Chesapeake Bay itself and had always come up empty handed. This experience helped me improve my "technique" and since then I've found even more teeth in other spots. Thanks so much for watching, my friend!
I really enjoyed the panoramic views of the river. Beautiful place man. Overall that was a sweet hike with the rock wall, the trees and I thought the water flowing out of the rock was really cool. You are getting to see a huge chunk of the area which is cool because we have never really explored it before. I havent and I think I remember you saying that the area was pretty much an unexplored part of Virginia for you as well. Take care!
Yeah man I know the Northern Neck very well now, there is hardly any public place I haven't been to LOL, but before December 2015 I had never set a foot out there. This beach area has been one of my favorite spots so far, and I've been out there several times. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
the water might be polluted but at least the land looks nice and clean/ awesome walk on the beach. The view of Maryland is actually pretty good. No crowds, looks very peaceful there// Wow ! you found shark teeth thats too cool
Yeah sadly the water is not good. It actually looks relatively clear and you don't see trash floating in it much, but it must be full of unseen chemical and/or biological contaminants, run off from farms and from the urban areas around the D.C. metro area I suppose. I've also joked that since the river flows right through D.C., it must be polluted by politics LOL!!! The beach was clean, I didn't see trash. I bet the place is busy on weekends because its not hard to get to, but it is kind of out in the boonies so low visitation on a weekday. Like you, I try to go when the people are somewhere else! Finding the shark teeth was super cool. I had been hunting them for a while along the Potomac and in some other areas near the Chesapeake Bay but all my previous efforts came up empty handed. I have a lot of video footage from my hunts but I'm not sure if I will turn it into a video or not.
Smell N Roses i still cant beleive you found so many teeth/ i bet there must be people on the weekend it is beautiful // and haha i think you are right about DC politics polluting the water
potatothorn As of right now I have found over 40 teeth. After my first find, I realized what I had been doing wrong before and improved my "technique" and now I am finding more teeth. I've collected them over a few different hunting excursions to a couple of different spots along the river. Most are very small, the largest one I have is still tiny like around a 1/4 inch in length. Some are broken but some are pretty well intact. It's been a lot of fun, just takes a ton of patience and some luck too!
It is sad to still see signs indicating polluted water. You would think we would have learned our lessons from the past, but unfortunately there is still places like this one. It really is a neat looking place! Glad you finally found some sharks teeth.
We never learn, my friend. And of course some of he pollution is simply out of our control. Pretty much all of the waterways east of the mountains have some level of pollution. I've seen signs on other rivers warning not to swim or not to eat any fish caught. Other than the nasty water, the Potomac is a beautiful river. I love all the neat bluffs, and of course finally finding some shark teeth was awesome! Thanks so much for watching!
It is sad to see the pollution. The reality is that practically all of our waterways east of the mountains are heavily polluted. I missed the report on the Rio water, but I am not surprised. I lived in Latin America for several years back in the 1990s and never drank the water down there.
Indeed it is a huge river, about 6 miles wide LOL! This area is close to where the river empties into the Chesapeake Bay. I was stoked to find the shark teeth. Since finding these, I have found quite a few more. I shot a lot of footage of the fossil hunts but I have not decided yet whether or not to compile a video.
Central and eastern Virginia have some really nice places to camp and hike, and of course a ton of history too if you're into that. Still, I only ever go out there for work. If I am out there on a job I will take advantage and explore what ever is around, but if I'm on my own time I'll head for higher elevations. Thanks for watching, my friend!
Awesome! Thanks so much for following along. That was actually Pope's Creek right at the beginning of the video before I did my intro. My home turf is down in southern Virginia very close to the NC line. We don't often make it over to High Point, but spend a lot of time around Greensboro. I love the Triad area!
It was a neat place to see and yeah I was stoked to finally find some shark teeth! Let's scratch that off the bucket list and get back to the mountains LOL!!! Thanks for watching, my friend!
I went to Leesylvania state park recently. There were tons of people swimming in the water. It's the Potomac also, and I know it's disgusting. Those people were crazy! I've been wanting to take the kids shark tooth hunting, I heard there's another beach that's supossed to be great for that. Brownie Beach I think? How the gnats out there right now. I remember not liking hiking last august because the gnats were terrible:(
It's sad that most of our rivers are severely polluted. I wouldn't swim or eat fish from any waterway east of the mountains. Brownie Beach, if we're talking about the same place, is over on the Chesapeake Bay in MD. Anywhere along the Bay should be great for hunting sharks teeth. On the Potomac, it would be doubtful to find any as far upriver as Woodstock, but if you're down river from the 301 bridge your chances improve. You might consider taking your kids to Westmoreland State Park sometime. It's a nice park, just a few miles down the road from this spot, and I have found shark teeth there as well (check out my Fossil Beach video from earlier this year, I didn't find any in that video but went back to that spot recently and did find some teeth). Gnats have not been too bad, but gnats don't generally like me anyway so hard for me to say. When I have been out on the river bank itself there is usually just enough salty breeze to keep the insects down, but once you step away from the river the big nuisance for me is biting flies. There does not seem to be any insect repellent that works on them either, I've tried everything even 100% DEET and they still swarm me around the marshy areas.
awesome tour, love the sights and sounds, what a large river to the bay, enjoyed the beautiful scenery on the shoreline.
The river is definitely huge out in that area, 6 miles across...that makes rivers back in my home area look like little creeks! It is a great area to capture bird sights and sounds, especially around those marsh areas. Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you so much for watching and for leaving a comment. that was pretty cool walking down the beach with the tree all over the place and the shark teeth was a cool find thanks for sharing SNR

I like the bluffs. Nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal.
I agree, could easily spend hours sitting out there. Thanks for watching, Nathan!
Thank you for the video and its sad to see the river still like that.

The Potomac River has spectacular beauty in so many spots, but sadly it is severely polluted. Thanks for watching!

We go to Virginia a lot. But never to the coast. I don't think I've once spent any time on the coast of Virginia.

Where is the beach in relation to Washington's Birthplace....is it above or below Pope's Creek?
Pope's Creek is down river from the beach. Thanks for watching!
Ok...I see where you were now...... Was looking for the house at the end of the trail. Google earthed it. Love your vids..I am in High Point NC

High Point is pretty ugly...a washed-up post industrial mess...lol.
Donnoha LOL!
Looks like a cool place! Congrats on the shark teeth!
It was a neat place to see and yeah I was stoked to finally find some shark teeth! Let's scratch that off the bucket list and get back to the mountains LOL!!! Thanks for watching, my friend!
