I'll be 83 in January. I've ridden 10,300 miles so far in 2024. I been riding since 1966 - starred with a Honda 65. Riding a 2023 Street Glide now. I think it's all about how confident you feel (being honest with yourself).
I will be 80 in January and ride my bike at least 3 times a week in traffic to my local gym, pickleball and other places. Age should be no problem if you are healthy, maintain your strength and use proper technique. Thanks Jerry for your great training videos.
I will be 82 when I get back on my Gold Wing after the winter season and I highly recommend all riders to keep refreshing with videos like yours. Every turn and stop should be practiced until it becomes a natural muscle reaction.
I am 71 yrs young, been riding on the street since 1969. 1 million miles under my belt. I am 6'6" . I own a Victory Cross country and a Triumph Tiger 800. 10 yrs ago, I had to give up riding Dual Sport bikes. To rough on the old bones! Back when I started riding ,there was no safety gear or Formal Training . I do not ride as much as I used to. But I still ride.
I wish I lived in the USA, I would like the chance to do this course under instructions, can't believe it's only $150, thought it would be at least triple that, I have your ride like a pro cd, and I practice the technique, glad to see seniors learning as well, iam only a kid, 68yrs young
A note to all you kids who have commented. I’m 85 and still riding my old Road King a couple times a week. Bought it new in 2004 and it’s just about to turn 109,000 miles. When will I stop riding ? When it’s not fun anymore. Something I can’t imagine happening. I haven’t had any problem with the seat rubbing. Soon after purchase I changed out the seat with an Ultra Classic seat.
Beautiful on both counts. Loved seeing those guys impove and making those turns. Also, thanks for showing us your wet sanding and buffing. What a huge difference!
Thanks deputy I’m 66 been riding since I was 12. Didn’t ride big bikes for years and always wanted a Harley. Got my sportster 883 an 2006 model and love it. I watched you and Lt Rob videos and you both got me going fantastic. Thanks so much for
I had Lt Rob in one ear saying preload and keep it loaded. Then deputy Jerry saying in the other ear head and eyes the bike goes where you look turn your head
Jerry Im 69. Ive been riding since I was 7. In the spring were retiring to Fla. and my son has lived there for 3 years. Hes 33 and has not riden a full sized street bike. Hes very motivated to get a bike. When we get him sorted out... Im coming over to the west coast with him to take your class! Love your vids. One thing Ive always felt strongly about is the value of starting on a dirt bike. Sliding... doing wheelies... and most impotantly falling. Learning how to fall is impossible on a street bike. But happens regularly in the dirt. Later.
I started at 12. I started my son at 7. He raced motocross from 8 to 15. Won a championship when he was 14. We ride a lot. Street Glide and Heritage Softtail.
I’ll be 76 this winter and have been riding since age 16. Two things matter: (1) stay in reasonably good shape by working out with moderate weights all winter, and (2) take a few days at the start of riding season to renew your skills. Related, as you age buy a motorcycle that you can manage. I now ride a Goldwing DCT that is lighter than a V Twin and has reverse gear so I am more able to move it around in my garage, parking stall, etc. Also read, or re-read your copy of Proficient Motorcycling during every off-season.
one day i saw a bmw closeing the gap on me quite quickly but cound't figure out what was on the back, when he passed me it was a very elderly man in a tee shirt and shorts and no helmet and a walker strapped to the back of his bike, does'nt matter what the age or the cercumstance, not too old and really not too heavy bike, it was a newer 1600 bmw , got to love it
11 more days I'll hit 70, my average is 14,000 miles a year, highway, mostly parkway, and city,(new York) never going to stop, just train yourself, 15 minutes a week, follow Jerry's videos and other much younger riders think I'm a retired motor officer, a giant thanks to him.
At 60, got my motorcycle endorsement after being on a bike a handful of times. I won’t lie and say it’s always pretty but boy do I enjoy riding. I first heard about this weird concept of counter starring on this channel. In my state you are required to take a motorcycle safety class prior to getting an endorsement. Best thing I ever did.
It's not so much age as mobility. I'm working through triple bypass surgery, a heart attack and 2 bad discs in my lower spine. I have stopped riding UNTIL I feel limber enough to handle it.
73 and still riding. Downgraded to a slower bike. RE 350 Meteor. Adequate for mountain riding in the Philippines and keeps me out of trouble with top speed of 75 mph. Otherwise I'm too tempted too crank the throttle.
The only thing Jerry if you live in your area or travel there to attend your class the course is taught be you..... I didnt know when I signed up for your class here in Atlanta that it was taught by someone else. I just assumed you traveled to other locations. Myabe next time when in FL I can schedule a course with you.
I teach my classes at my location only in Spring Hill Florida. I have locations across the USA for riders to attend. Most are taught by either former or active-duty motor officers. They teach the exact course and methods I do.
@@motorman857 Will they teach how to loft the front, slide the rear, ride wheelies, hop logs and rocks, and take jumps? Or is this about weaving through cones?
Paint Protection - For any used or new bikes I buy, I have patterns that I use to cut/shape 3M Scotchgard Clear Paint Protection film. These are two of the areas I do first. Note, if it is a used bike I do use a similar paint correction method as you do to prepare the surface for the 3M product.
65 and burning 25K a year with a 6-7 month riding season. $150 bucks!!!!! I have payed twice that for other clasees. yes, each one was money very well spent. you will gain confidence and skills. GO TO CLASS.
All the buffing in the world won't save the side panel on my bike. The Hot pipe. Took it. And my pants leg as a bonus these things happen. I got more pants. Your class looks like a blast. I'd cheat though. I'd bring like a trail 90. And I'd still screw the pooch. And spool. In the nearest. Oily. Spot
I will be the party crusher here. I am 60, riding 2020 wing, DCT Tour. Love the bike so much. Enjoy every mile on it. Sadly, I am planning to sell it and say goodbye to riding. I live in Central New Jersey and what I see daily on the roads as I commute to work, is simply crazy. Drivers just do everything else, but driving and its getting worse. I have a good life now and very happy and refuse to end up in the hospital with metal plates all over, IF I will make it because a young lady/guy must text....I MISS YOU to whomever and I am done because of it. Most of the time, its not us, its THEM. Its becoming very stressful to ride these days. Its a shame to bring this up after 37 years on 2 wheels.
@@motorman857 That is a good one, boss. We're all need training, every so often. That is not the issue. Many drivers DO need more training and especially, the young one. Playing with phones, social media, infotainment, taking pictures while driving, IS the lack of training.
Hello Jerry, I have followed you for several and purchased your videos in the past. I'm 81 and still riding a HD Limited. I ride 8k or more on the bike a year. I have never learned to pick up the damn thing yet (yuck) I'm 6' 1" and weigh 185 and go the gym a couple times a week. Played all kinds of sports so I'm not puny. I have no fear of dropping the bike except being some place alone, which happens a lot, of having to pick it up. My question is what do you think of a 12V DC ctri car lift they set 5.3 inches off the ground and lift to 17.3 high, enough to get the bike up off the ground so I can lift it the rest of the way. They cost about 79.00 bucks from Amazon ?
Why not practice picking up the bike with someone around who can help you until you get it right? There are 100's of videos on youtube showing how to do it.
I've got my driving license last year... at 60 ! In France, the motorbike license is not that easy to get. My wife thinks I'm crazy 😂 She must be right since I've not driven my car for months but my bike almost every day wether it's cold or not, it's raining or not.
I'll be 70 in May and have no intention of quitting anytime soon. Bought a new Street Glide in May and have 9K miles on it already. Keeps me sane.
I just turned 80 October 2nd, and I'm still riding 6,ooo miles a summer in Montana.
Wow- just watched the detailing tip. I’m going to try that on my scratched up saddle bags and fairing. Thanks for your help my motor brother!
Im 65 and still grinding my floor boards off on my Street Glide. Love your videos

You are awesome Jerry I wish I was closer I would love to attend your class
Another great segment Jerry! I'm 68 and God willing, I will never stop riding and working on my Harleys. Looking forward to your next one!
You don’t stop riding when you get old you get old when you stop riding !
Thanks for the polishing tip. Those 2 older riders are an inspiration. Good for them. Quite motivating.

I bought some clear 3M automotive tape and covered the tank areas. Keeps the paint protected and is barely noticeable.

Great video. I have those seat marks too and had no idea how to remedy it. Btw, my ridding buddy is 83 and is sharper than most guys in their 60's.

Awesome video Motorman! Loved it! Please give a Hello for me to Doc Donna. 😊❤
Good “detailing” tip…for sure…love to come take ur class IF it ever cools down…too dang hot…89 on Halloween and 91 today…that’s very hot for November.

I took up weights in 1963 .
Still working out .Seems to have saved me .( age 83 )
Thanks for Sharing Jerry
Something has gone horrible wrong in my left knee, but I climb on with my right leg so I believe I can ride, though I may have to crawl off...

69 in May. Lots of motorcycles, NOW a final Ducati Scrambler Icon at 100 lbs less than my BMW900XR, Also About 100CC less.

As long as you can toss a leg over the seat and hold it up right, ride until can’t 🫵🏾
I'm probably too old, but I'm gonna do it anyway.
The time when you can no longer get your leg over the bike is the time to give up riding!!
Do you have any Oregon classes?
No, not at this time.
I'm 60 and it might take me 3 minutes to stand up off my seat but live to ride and ride to live...
Try doing some squats. No weights at first, 12 to 15 reps and start with 3 sets. Do that every morning and you'll feel a lot better within 2 weeks.
