next time try collet chuck for that 2 flute end mill and a v block in the vice with that 3 jaw drill chuck that end mill will pull down and out as for the vice using a v block will help keep the cylindrical object up right and secure hope this helps as danger never takes a day off
We had a couple of Detroit Diesel 12V and 16V engines that turned a main. The machine shop cut the bearing bore out, maybe 3/8" oversize, and made sleeves to fit in with the ID about 0.005" to 0.010" undersize for the main bearing bore. Then they drilled and tapped holes about 90° apart for countersink bolts. Loctite the bolts with the heads flush. The cap had the same done. These bolts locked the sleeves in place. Then the caps were trimmed to align bore/hone the main bearings. One large Caterpillar engine was salvaged in the same manner. An 8,000# (that is weight) block is a wee bit expensive to replace. Like ship crankshafts that are 40 feet long, very expensive and tooling is somewhat rare due to the small market.
I picked up on that but with the thread out the back it is seating too high would be better in a modified large 4 jaw chuck bolted flat down on the table but 20 thou cut will get away with it.
LS3 from a Camaro or Firebird with the Tremec 6 spd trans. Actually takes 50# off the front end of a Beemer 3 Series. With minor porting, a cam change and tune, you get 550HP at the rear wheels. The 760 V12 diff bolts in so you do not explode the ring and pinion. Makes a whopper sleeper, and fuel economy is not bad, all things considered.
One thing I found on the original mini motors was that if the cam was warm it's possible for the followers can be too small and the lobes can club on the sides. So if you are going to build a warm engine it's worth machining out the holes for the followers, what size I don't remember but to fit Holden straight six followers worked well
Well i know a shop that charges extra if u bring ur own parts. Why? Because they cannot guarentee labor or part quality if person brings em random chinesium or used junkyard parts. That said they dont build engines in these type shops
Great you have finally taken notice of the hundreds of comments saying to wear glasses and remove the hood strings. Using a milling cutter in a drill chuck is next, but at least you're wearing glasses when the cutter comes out the chuck, one step at a time.
There's quite a few like that here in Australia, always ready to take, advantage, I recently paid $3,000 in labour for a gearbox to be removed and put a supplied one back in, after that Cruise control and horn dosent work, and other things, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
We received a crate of cvh engines from Ford themselves , they were returns as they had the oversize O/D main housings and were not going into any vehicles, so I did a lot of destructive testing when I had free time😂
As the match is stil going on I can’t help noticing there is ORANGE in your Barum Engines logo!!! May the best team win!!! Greetings from the Netherlands!
You can buy crated still Lima engines which are big Pinto's and in south America still can find crated Cologne 4.0 V6's, both the Lima and South American Cologne can run a turbo... big big beasties :)
As retired manchanist I see that you are useing a Jacobs Drill chuck to hold your milling cutter not good idea , buy your self a milling chuck you will find it grips the cutter much better you will need one that suits your mill spindle nose
Fantastic as always you two. I always mill toward the fixed jaw but perhaps I am wrong! Keep up the good work and the almost telepathic commentary. What do you think of the latest Dagenham Dustbin the Electric 'Ford Capri' I had a 3000S best vehicle I ever owned now reduced to a Kinder Egg!
Do you have any BM M111 2.3L performance cams 18° or similar or you know where to get them from. Even some Originals that are in great condition would consider I wonder if I should go for the 2 L cams be like a touring cam it will give it performance. Not sure with the modern cars because they got this advanced cam timing if that makes any difference these days?
Apparently the last of the MGBs were already on max oversize shells when they come off the production line because the machines were so old and knackered.
Supplying your own parts can be tricky sometimes, Lee can’t warrant those parts even though Lee would check them, if the parts fail it’s on the customer
Hi Lee . I live in Vancouver, B.C. Canada and watch most of the videos. I am a fan and subscriber. I race a 2003 Formula 2000 Van Diemen. In our race group we have both 2L Ztec and 2L Pinto engines. I am curious about the pinto blocks - here we have 200 & 205 pinto and capri blocks. What are the differences between these? Our pinto and capri blocks have 2.0 cast on the lower part of the block. Can you please shed some light on this as well? Thanks , Keray
I guarantee that A series has had a 276 or 286 ca fitted with modified combustion chambers but didnt check the volume and if it didnt have a HIF44 with modded needle and altered weights its 1 big grenade waiting to go off. Seen it all before but the garage charging him for his own parts is taking the piss
It sounds like this customer was trying to save costs by supplying some of the parts, then shopping the build out to a local garage. A recipe for disaster. That huge flat spot sounds like the cam and high compression, was not suitable for road use. Did the customer specify the cam to be used?
Some "operators" will not give a standard price for a job or a part. The price depends on how much or little money they still have in their "BOOZE FUND". And then they wonder why the customers get less and less - but unfortunately there is a new sucker born every day.
GORDON BENNET!!!! using a Jacob’s chuck to hold a milling cutter?? ahhhh,,,,,,, go on push the boat out and buy some collets 😂😂
Jacobs chuck and milling what!!!!!!!!.
next time try collet chuck for that 2 flute end mill and a v block in the vice with that 3 jaw drill chuck that end mill will pull down and out as for the vice using a v block will help keep the cylindrical object up right and secure hope this helps as danger never takes a day off
A Land Rover tech owning a 3.0 diesel Land Rover! You would have thought he’d know better 😊
Dumped the cord and put on your glasses so all the H&S rivet counters will be over the moon!!!! Great vid as well.

I actually don't mind when John is making noise invthe background ... It's a workshop and it seems a bit odd when it is silent !
I was thinking that too 👍👍
Well someone's working!
@@who-gives-a-toss_Bearyes exactly the only one who gets on with it 😂🎉😊
Always best to clock round pieces in the mill, also dont use a jacobs chuch for holding milling cutters
When holding round bar in a vice you should really use a vee block against the fixed jaw for a secure hold. Milling cutter in a drill chuck???
I picked up on that but with the thread out the back it is seating too high would be better in a modified large 4 jaw chuck bolted flat down on the table but 20 thou cut will get away with it.
What the hellllll using a chuck to run a end mill ,quickest way to destroy a chuck

Great to speak to you on the phone on Wednesday Lee!
The G40 head will be on its way to you on Monday 👍
Great content as usual 😀
Charging a customer for his own parts, That's a new one.
Well i know a shop that charges extra if u bring ur own parts. Why? Because they cannot guarentee labor or part quality if person brings em random chinesium or used junkyard parts. That said they dont build engines in these type shops
Yeah nah, seen that done before!!!

When are we going to see a crank being ground ? 😁
Shortly after they learn to close the door to the machine shop.
Cheers Lee, crickey, theirs some strange people down your way.
Probably charging him the markup on the parts he would have charged if they had supplied them.
yes i work for a parts supplier the price the garage pays and the "suggested retail price" are worlds apart
Love to see you pressure test the LS

Going too be busy lad's. 👀👍

The Classic Mini specialist obviously wasn't a specialist and certainly was a rip off merchant.
The Mini specialist wasn't at fault. The original engine builder was. The specialist put the car on the dyno and found issues.
Holding a milling cutter in a drill chuck is not good practice
Shame on you using a Jacobs chuck to hold a milling cutter.
They kept the new clutch , put the old one back in,
After adjusting the pressure plate .
easy money !!!
Not a good idea to put a cutter in a chuck mate Pro miller statement lol
to think I found a 200 block 20 miles away from you 😂
As retired manchanist I see that you are useing a Jacobs Drill chuck to hold your milling cutter not good idea , buy your self a milling chuck you will find it grips the cutter much better you will need one that suits your mill spindle nose
He's got a collet Chuck for milling cutters, he's too lazy to change it over is the problem.
Yellow tabard, and hardhats, please .😂.

Unlike some John is working and is entitled to make a noise .
Praise where praise is due well done with losing the draw strings and wearing safety glasses,
The v4 mk1 transit engine had the same problem on the crankshaft mains
Milling cutter in a 3 jaw drill chuck?

do you do anything with the ford 1.0
3 cylinder ecoboost engines
I mean they are engine builders who do rare stuff so if it can be rebuilt im sure they'd do it. Duno cost tho
They will come for the sleeves next.

I see there are some pinto engines for s ale here i New Zealand !

I would like to LS swap my lawn mower, it takes too much time now to finish the chore.
Should not have charged at all to fix a clutch that they supplied and installed
nice
15.50. 'before you bought the car in' can someone tell why people say bought instead of brought and vice versa
yeah, minimal effort to get over 500HP naturally out of a LS.
Wait.....so you can develop an LS to make 80bhp/litre....when the M3 3.2 makes 100bhp/litre stock? Hmmmm
👍👍
5/16ths x 8-and-a-half. Are we metric or imperial! Surely they're never mixed.....
Any chance you could change the video title? It doesn't make sense.
Should name and shame these shister garages. Save others getting ripped off in the future
17:50 Did he get a refund???????????????
Dont mind watching your videos or Isaac's videos, but lose the parrot in the background

same old same old shit 🤷♂
My Thursday fix.
Send me your number,I'll use it down the bookies tomorrow. Thursday?
Zetec Is a horrible engine to set up with everything floating
... and says...?
Clearly an amateurish approach to running the business - seems their work is as poor as their cost systems!
Bunch of blocks, come Lee sort out your grammar.
