In this video titled EU4 A to Z - The MOST POWERFUL Nation In EU4 That NO ONE PLAYS I play as The Rassids in Europa Universalis 4 1.37 Winds of Change. This is the series titled A to Z where I attempt to play every* nation in EU4 in alphabetical order. Of course I had to remove some nations so the challenge doesn't get too boring. In this video I play as the nation of The Rassids and I attempt to conquer Granada. So, let's see if I managed to do it! I hope you guys enjoy this series. For Riga, I think something more chill would be cool. Join the HRE, conquer Lubek, and then become a world power via trade and development. I think leaning into a trade game would be fun, but also not make you do something insane.
Also, I think an important thing for anyone watching videos is the difference between dislike and frustration. You can love a game but be frustrated while playing it when you get bad luck or have a series of rough moments. Like getting rebelled bombed for 90% of the game. Great vid, Hawk!
Maybe as a side goal, have no more than 5(?) provinces?

Riga is really great for playing very tall. It's even possible to play the entire campaign as an OPM Riga, expanding only through vassals and developing the crap out of this one province due to it's insane mission tree, making tons of ducats.
When I played Riga I ended my campaign 1821 with my loyal vassals Prussia owning almost all of Prussia, Poland and Northern Germany, Livland owning Lithuania, the Baltics and a big chunk of Russia and the holy land for myself (under 6 provinces only counts for europe!), to just name a few. And of course trade leader in all relevant centers of trade, swimming in cash. It was a lot of fun.
As Riga secure the means of production of rigatoni: conquer Italy
Riga is a heavily trading focused nation, so as riga, make the Baltic trade node the highest valued node in the world and have the largest share of trade power in 7 different nodes.
Maybe also spawn global trade?
The lands of Livonia, which includes Riga, were also called Terra Mariana. So as Riga own the entire state of West Micronesia, the 3 provinces closest to the Mariana Trench.
As Sweden, you should unite Scandinavia, make Muscovy not exist, and take Constantinople, changing the name to Miklagård (the Viking name for Constantinople).
Bonus points: Colonize North America and have Vinland own all of modern-day Canada.
Another Riga suggestion i have is complete Riga mission tree (doable by 1550-60)
And form Lubeck, but after forming Lubeck you have to return to Theocracy to keep the modifier on Riga
Afterwards complete the Hansa mission ‘Queen of the Hansa’. I have a surprise for you there.😅

As Riga, stay an OPM (optional, colony doesnt count), have 100 dev in Riga, and own a colony (new/old world is fine)

As Riga, core the entire Baltic region and complete the Terra Mariana achievement. For a bonus goal, switch religion and stick it to the Pope by raiding the heretic Catholics in Rome in order to complete the Purify the Temple achievement.

As Sweden you should reclaim all Viking colonies. From the Rus to Vinland. I don't think this necessarily requires total conquest, but it would mean beating several great powers in wars

Riga is the only province with Balten culture that is part of the German culture group. As Riga, conquer all provinces with the German culture (and Memel too, Memel is definitely Prussian) and convert all of them to Balten culture.
Riga is the only nation capable of getting both centers of reformation as well as the religious spread through trade mechanic so as Riga get both in your country and become at least a tier 3 defender of the faith. Also as a side quest you could try completing their MT
You can also get both as Zoroastrian Persia/Ehranshahr

so there are 3 challenges and a simple rule that EU4 wants you to obey with Riga!
The rule is Riga modifier which says to have no more than 5 provinces in the European continent!
challenge nr.1 we are going to borrow from releasables: Become a great power as Riga
challenge nr.2 colonise Onodowaga province (Northwest of Manahahttan) where in real life you can find village of Riga in modern times
challenge nr.3 conquer or vassalise Tirhut province (between Jaunpur and Bengal) where in real life you can find city of Riga in modern times

Move capital to Adan before deving for renaissance! Reduces Adan's local autonomy to 0. Massively increases trade power, significantly increases naval force limit, and a better trade good (incense). Yemen usually buffs its capital, which after annexation is part of Adan's state (thus lower gov cap impact). Fun run. Thank you for the enjoyment.
As Riga, only conquer centers of trade and get over 500 development
Both achievments for Riga will be great. Done them two days ago around 1518 (with very safe play style), so it should not take very long. Achievments are always fun 😊

Riga has one of the coolest mission rewards in the game. If you stay under (I think )6 provinces in Europe you get massive province modifiers in your capital that let you keep up with the rest of the world.
In that spirit, I think that as Riga you should become one of the top 4 great powers, dev all of your provinces to 50, and maybe as a bonus goal have the highest income.
It's worth noting that you can still have trade companies and colonies and vassals, those don't affect the modifier
Rassids are one of my favorites to play. Very strong military and with the new mission tree, very strong trade focused economy. With the potential to blob a bit, it’s a fun time.
As Riga, who needs Berlin? Culture convert Moscow to Balten German.

You don't need to take down the rebels right away. They are actually pretty good for deterring your early enemies because they will just walk back and forth between your two unfortified provinces and beat up any of your enemies that attempted to enter.
There is only one thing you should do as Riga do the Purify the Temple achievement while owning less than 5 provinces in Europa, last part can be ignored if the pain level is to high!
Mikhail Tal of Riga won the candidates tournament in Belgrade and then the World Championship in Moscow. So obviously you need to own both of those cities as Riga. That’s all.

Of course, just after I post this, the game gives Hawk the biggest break anyone ever got.
For Riga there are bonus which is applied only if you are 5 provinces or less. So as Riga goal is to be in Great Power list not being more then 5 provinces

09:05 you could've moved your army into Ethiopia before you declared the war. You don't get exiled if you're in an ally's territory when you declare.
Little PSA because this is exactly the kind of thing you'd get happening to you: if you go Protestant as Riga and have the Orders as vassals, make sure they DO NOT go Prot themselves you will lose buffs

Famous world chess champion Mikhail Tal was from riga and he firstly won candidates in zurich and qualified for championship game and become champion in Moscow and he was famous for using his knights well. So as Riga create a 50 dev Tal riga and make switzerland and moscow your vassals while doing all only use cavalry.
As Riga, play a Riged game:
Play very hard and try to become a great power.
I was disappointed in the end. Usually by the time you reach Granada.. Castile has a PU on Aragon, or at least has a couple colonies along with a couple powerful allies, which would be hard to take Granada from. I love playing the Rassids. They have a fun mission tree with some pretty strong perma modifiers on them, not to mention a great project that gives them a nice manpower buff.
Also you can do some random ruler cheese at the start if you let your country fall to rebels. You might get a better ruler that way.

Kurland used to have a couple of colonies for a while, in modern day Gambia and in Trinidad & Tobago. So, as Riga, form Kurland and own those provinces.
If it were a Laith video, I would certainly have some second thoughts about Granada popping up so convienently... 😅

good run, IMO it would have been more satisfying to conquer Ethiopia and push west through the sahel and then conquer up into morocco but I guess you're on a timetable so it might not be feasible.
As Riga, own or have a subject own every province with a center of trade, estuary, natural harbor etc. that has access to the baltic sea

Or as Hisn Kayfa, restore the Ayyubids, either form the Mughal Empire or restore the Roman Empire.

Riga's whole gimmick is about being tall. I don't care too much about the actual goal, but I'd like to see it stay under 6 provinces for the duration.
