First, I played RE Darkside Chronicles and when I later saw how irritating he was on CV, I was very surprised. His character in DC was much more approachable
I am so happy Ethan is first, from all these deaths, I literally cried like crazy. He is my favorite character, he sacrificed everything for the family. I don’t blame people who put Piers or Luis on the first place. These 3 characters’ deaths are tough. ❤
I found it hard because of how unlikely it was. Like Chris and his team didn't perform any checks/tests etc when they rescued Ethan at the end of 7?really
I’m a parent and I agree 100%, I’d do anything for my kids and I like to think if I was in the situation Ethan was in, I’d make the same choice to save my kids
One death I think has hit me quite a bit was Krauser's death in Resident Evil 4's remake. While he still was a villain, kidnapped Ashley and set off the chain of events in RE4, he still had a tragic story to tell and was much more fleshed out than he was before. To me, his desire for power was a coping mechanism for the loss of his men during the mission in Operation Javier, and while he does state he didn't care for his men, I think he really did. So when I saw the moment, I watched as the real Krauser came back for one last moment to tell Leon to do what he had to do; not only telling him to kill him, but to finish his mission. Seeing Leon's reluctance to kill his mentor figure and the pain it must have brought to him to kill Krauser did make me feel bad for Leon and Krauser. This is only capped off when Krauser, for the first time, acknowledges Leon by name, as an equal, and seeing Leon's expression and attempt to hold back his sadness. The remake really did make you feel bad even for some of the villains.
True colors come out in the last moments before death. Krauser was proud of Leon. Felt bad about it all when he saw that it was for nothing. I think his time in the jungle really screwed him up :/ And he put Leon in the position of killing a friend.
I love Luis in the original RE4 but in the 4 remake Capcom improved him 1000%,loved every minute he was in the screen and his death was way more sad atleast for me.
Losing Ethan definitely hurts especially because if Chris had just told Ethan the plan i bet he would be alive and i love how his character ends in the dlc protecting his child

It might have even given him longevity if not technical immortality. I stil don't get how only Mia new that tough. People don't regrow limbs on Daily basis...
Piers death still hits hard I remember playing that campaign and getting teary at that scene. The fact that he still got mention in Death Island made me feel nostalgic about their time during RE6.

Sort of. He’s with the BSAA but he’s leading his own separate squad known as Wolf Hound (think that name is right) in partnership with Blue Umbrella. Since his team is pretty much outside of the BSAA it was shocking to him to learn about BOWs being used in the fight.
My list was: 10. Mikhail (Remake): even when Jill didn’t trust him he still did what he could to save her and anyone on the train. Jill did not trust Umbrellas but she would only realize his true nature after he did what he could to save the people. 9. Marvin (Remake): One of the last RPD survivors he gave everything to Leon or Claire before his death. 8. Krauser (Remake) - Leon did not even want to fight him and after he lost, accepted defeat. 7. Piers Nivans - Knew he wouldn’t make it so he saved Chris. 6. Ethan Winters - Not my favorite character but sacrificed everything for his family until there was nothing left of him. The dad I wish I had. 5. Annette Birkin - Ended up paying the ultimate price at the very end only showing Sherry her love then. 4. Jack Baker - Did not even have control of his life when he scared and tried to murder you. The truth is revealed in the personification. You have to fight him the most out of anyone in the game. You don’t get a sense until then. 3. Robert Kendo - Sacrificed everything and did not even get a happy ending. 2. Luis Serra(Remake) - After you free yourself from the Plaga, Leon admits it was Luis who saved him and Ashley. You also see a photo of him on the desk. 1. Steve Burnside - Ok he was very annoying but I had a childhood as difficult as him so knowing he didn’t make it was awful. Let’s not forget that his death made me grateful my parents didn’t do anything like that even if what they did was just awful.
Piers hurt really bad because I chose to play as him instead of Chris and got really attached. I even chose to keep the camera angle to the left just to feel like I was Piers.
I know she's a "bad guy" but Donna's death hits me every time. As soon as Angie starts running, I'm in tears. She didn't want to hurt anyone, she was a pawn used by Miranda that just wanted to be alone with her doll friends. She even writes on the back of your family photo, "Take care of our little Rose" or something to the effect. 😢😢😢

I wanna point out that for Kendo in the remake, we only hear one gunshot go off when he takes his daughter into the back room, most likely ending his daughters suffering. So we cant say that he actually kills himself as well if there was only one shot. Also. whether the side scenario with him is canon or not, I'm not sure, but he does end up escaping before he does kill himself.
I honestly didnt care to much when Piers sacrificed himself, but when Wesker died i laughed then cried cause he was one of my favorite R.E. characters plus that voice in 5 was so iconic

I would have the same list except for one change. Kendo and his daughter would have been 1st. The reason is because Ethan has made the ultimate sacrifice to save his daughter and wife but Kendo had to do the worst nightmare of all parents: Killing his own child. I have children myself and when i play a video game where the hero is a father or a mother , I literally put myself in the hero's shoes. I was sad when Ethan died but it was the choice i would have done. lol dude I feel you. I can see why people would put kendo & Emma as their number one. The only reason I didn’t put it higher up is due to the amount of time we spent with the characters above him
To me it feels like most of the deaths centered around those dying around the veteran characters impacts the most especially those dying around Chris. He lost so many comrades and losing Piers hit the hardest even though we only ever saw him in 6. After so long all of it was slowly breaking Chris into a depressing slump yet he still kept on fighting bioterrorism.
I had Plat'd RE6 a few months ago and from all the negative stuff I heard about the game, I wasn't expecting Piers' death to hit as hard as it did. He really went so far to help Chris find himself again and then went out like he did 😭
I'd have to disagree with remake Annette. The original was more sympathetic, and showed way more concern for Sherry than in the remake. But I'm glad to see Piers and Ethan get some deserved respect. In spite of RE8 having a rather rough narrative, the ending with Ethan was well done. I enjoyed him in both RE7 and RE8. And I liked Piers, same with RE6. He gave Chris the hard time he needed to get his spark back. Hopefully he'll get to retire one of these days.
Piers made the fatal mistake of being lead by Chris, I never bring anyone back alive, Redfield. Ethan was dirty by RE8/Village, and Luis is easily the best glow-up character from the remakes. Adding him into the Nemesis project and giving him some real backstory was great. Fun list.
I feel like Moira’s death in RE revelations 2 is one of the saddest ones. I know that there’s a chance to save her but if you don’t…in the end she just wanted to apologize to barry and wanted claire to make it out at all costs
Number 1 should had been Wesker! Before his death, Wesker last word was "Chris!" Like he wanted to say something to him something important but we will never know.
I grew so attached to Ethan. He suffered so much to save his daughter. After all that he was able to but at the cost of his life. I cried when I first saw it and still tear up even now.
1. Ethan 2. Luis 3. Kendo & Daughter 4. Marvin 5. Richard 6. Mike (the Heli pilot) 7. Annette 8. Brad 9. Steve 10. Dario I couldn't put Piers because I can't stand Resi 6. I know a bad game doesn't mean a bad character, but I just couldn't bring myself to care for him because of the game he was in.
Despite being the most action focused, Chris's campaign in RE6 was by far the best of the 4. Was heartbreaking to see Chris constantly lose every companion he makes, no matter how hard he tried to keep them safe.
I miss Piers. He was one the Greatest and underrated characters in the RE franchise. I love playing him and seeing his duo with Chris and the noble sacrifice he did. I do wish he was alive but I guess that means more Chris.
Piers should be number 1 over Ethan. He was around for longer and was almost like Chris's brother. Especially considering his interactions with Claire.
Define longer? If it’s about his entry coming out first then that logic would mean anybody that died in the first game should be number one. But I totally understand some viewing piers death being sadder. Tbh it was hard to choose between the 2
@@NerdSpaceGames He was in Biohazard The Stage and Marhawa Desire and RE6 was his 3rd appearance. That's where you can see his signature AMR. His character was just built up more than Ethan's so losing him has more weight. All we know about Ethan is that he is a software engineer that gets caught up in the Dulvey incident. Then receives military training and the events of RE8 happens. I guess people don't really know/care about Piers' origins. I wish the stage play would have been a game that would have been so good.
I do think Krauser accepting his loss and telling Leon was also kinda sad. “Go do what you have to do. I taught you well Leon.” I expected him to not accept that he lost or at least die there with no words. Did not think he would end it showing support to Leon. We also have the truth of Jack Baker when he revealed that he was never what Ethan actually saw. It gradually makes his death worse.
Chris is the miserable type of person who loses all of the soldiers who are under him. This guy can't be the one to blame but guilt has taken over his brain in re6.
I may not agree with all the list, but I guess you're totally right with Ethan. As you've said, he's the main characters for two games, and a simple casual fella trying to save his family, instead of a hi militar well trained (or a sister well trained, and even a rookie cop well trained). We had Piers too which is half a main character, but Ethan is like us and is there for two full games, not a quarter of one.
The DLC is a what if scenario on characters that died. Hence why it’s called Ghost Survivors. You play as multiple characters that died in the main campaign like Katherine & the deputy

I’m surprised no one has even mentioned Jack baker Yes we see him primarily as an antagonist for the majority of re7, however, he and his family were innocent victims of Evelyn and just wanted the best for his family and never wanted to hurt or kill anyone While we don’t see this until after our final battle with him in the main game, we are forced to go head to head with him again in end of Zoe knowing what we learned in the main game Joe recognized his brother and was forced to kill him once and for all, which couldn’t have been easy for him
Throughout the series many of the deaths have been sad and tragic like with Marvin, Brad, Richard, Luis, etc. However I definitely 100% agree that Ethan Winters is the saddest. For starters this is basically the first time this series killed off a main character at this point. Second we really got to know Ethan throughout 7 and 8 and pretty much his sacrifices and hell he goes through for his family and to see him make the ultimate sacrifice to end the megamyce was definitely heartbreaking. With all he went through for Mia and his daughter Rose especially in 8 if that isn't father of the century then I dont know what is.
For Steve, you could have added Darkside Chronicles as well. Annette wasn't that sad because of who she was. Darkside Chronicles Annette was WAY more sympathetic.
Resident Evil 6 has shown there is a higher unknown power at play here who dabble in bioweapon. Hopefully, Capcom comes back to this concept later in RE9 if they ever they get around to it.
The tragedy of Ethan was that Chris was the dumbest person imaginable. If he had taken literally thirty seconds to explain what was happening in the prologue, he probably would have survived.
I have not played Village yet, though I have seen every other scene mentioned in this video. Debra and her sister both deserved to die which makes me unsympathetic towards them. Annette literally sat her infected daughter in a room while she worked on her own research. Annette cared more about her work addiction than her own daughter. She is also a bigot since Annette showed clear hostility towards Leon, but not Claire. Annette is responsible for the creation of the virus. Steve deserves a higher place on this list. The scene where he was forced to shoot his father which had become a zombie is one of the most memorable scenes in any Resident Evil I have played. Piers definitely deserves the top spot on this list.
As I said on another video, I have yet to play 7 and 8 so I have zero attachment to Ethan. So with that, Piers is definitely #1 for me, followed by Luis at #2. After those two, I'm not sure how I would rank them.
Ethan didn't really die though. Or to be more specific; he died in RE7, but continued to exist as one of the "molded", and then continued in an even lesser form and helped Rose in the DLC. The fact that for some dumbass reason Capcom didn't want us to see his face, made us even more disconnected with him. You can't give a guy a personality, a name, and his own lines of dialogue, and expect the players to connect with him by then now showing his face. His "death" was tragic, but far from deserving the number 1 spot. Number 1 for me is Luis. Nothing is more tragic than a man who wanted to atone for his past sins, and dies trying to do so, trying to change.
Ill tell you what... I was salty af and sad af when I failed to save Rebecca my first playthrough of Resident Evil Remastered... That's probably the only death that actually got to me since being in that mansion the whole time by myself and Rebecca was like the only character you spend time with.
Piers is one of the highlights of RE6,i love that character and his demise is so emotional.

I feel like Moira’s death in RE revelations 2 is one of the saddest ones. I know that there’s a chance to save her but if you don’t…in the end she just wanted to apologize to barry and wanted claire to make it out at all costs

I grew so attached to Ethan. He suffered so much to save his daughter. After all that he was able to but at the cost of his life. I cried when I first saw it and still tear up even now.

Despite being the most action focused, Chris's campaign in RE6 was by far the best of the 4. Was heartbreaking to see Chris constantly lose every companion he makes, no matter how hard he tried to keep them safe.
I miss Piers. He was one the Greatest and underrated characters in the RE franchise. I love playing him and seeing his duo with Chris and the noble sacrifice he did. I do wish he was alive but I guess that means more Chris.

Piers should be number 1 over Ethan. He was around for longer and was almost like Chris's brother. Especially considering his interactions with Claire.
Define longer? If it’s about his entry coming out first then that logic would mean anybody that died in the first game should be number one. But I totally understand some viewing piers death being sadder. Tbh it was hard to choose between the 2
@@NerdSpaceGames He was in Biohazard The Stage and Marhawa Desire and RE6 was his 3rd appearance. That's where you can see his signature AMR. His character was just built up more than Ethan's so losing him has more weight. All we know about Ethan is that he is a software engineer that gets caught up in the Dulvey incident. Then receives military training and the events of RE8 happens. I guess people don't really know/care about Piers' origins. I wish the stage play would have been a game that would have been so good.

I do think Krauser accepting his loss and telling Leon was also kinda sad. “Go do what you have to do. I taught you well Leon.” I expected him to not accept that he lost or at least die there with no words. Did not think he would end it showing support to Leon. We also have the truth of Jack Baker when he revealed that he was never what Ethan actually saw. It gradually makes his death worse.
Chris is the miserable type of person who loses all of the soldiers who are under him. This guy can't be the one to blame but guilt has taken over his brain in re6.

I may not agree with all the list, but I guess you're totally right with Ethan. As you've said, he's the main characters for two games, and a simple casual fella trying to save his family, instead of a hi militar well trained (or a sister well trained, and even a rookie cop well trained). We had Piers too which is half a main character, but Ethan is like us and is there for two full games, not a quarter of one.

The DLC is a what if scenario on characters that died. Hence why it’s called Ghost Survivors. You play as multiple characters that died in the main campaign like Katherine & the deputy

Yeah I think that’s what Capcom was going for with his introduction in re7. To make him more relatable than the typical resident evil protagonist

Altough its hard to convincingly argue that way, but sherry could just be not realising that her parents are dead, as she may not grasp the concept on death, or, more believable, after all that she witnessed she might supress or think that this was all a dream and shut this of in her mind.
Piers was an iconic character even with his small screen time. A truly great guy, I have no problem saying I cried when he dyed, I felt so bad for my man Chris....

Yes we see him primarily as an antagonist for the majority of re7, however, he and his family were innocent victims of Evelyn and just wanted the best for his family and never wanted to hurt or kill anyone
While we don’t see this until after our final battle with him in the main game, we are forced to go head to head with him again in end of Zoe knowing what we learned in the main game
Joe recognized his brother and was forced to kill him once and for all, which couldn’t have been easy for him
Enrico was the most important/sad deaths in tere history. He figured out there was a traitor before anyone else did and he died because of it.

Throughout the series many of the deaths have been sad and tragic like with Marvin, Brad, Richard, Luis, etc. However I definitely 100% agree that Ethan Winters is the saddest. For starters this is basically the first time this series killed off a main character at this point. Second we really got to know Ethan throughout 7 and 8 and pretty much his sacrifices and hell he goes through for his family and to see him make the ultimate sacrifice to end the megamyce was definitely heartbreaking. With all he went through for Mia and his daughter Rose especially in 8 if that isn't father of the century then I dont know what is.
For Steve, you could have added Darkside Chronicles as well.
Annette wasn't that sad because of who she was. Darkside Chronicles Annette was WAY more sympathetic.

Resident Evil 6 has shown there is a higher unknown power at play here who dabble in bioweapon. Hopefully, Capcom comes back to this concept later in RE9 if they ever they get around to it.
The tragedy of Ethan was that Chris was the dumbest person imaginable. If he had taken literally thirty seconds to explain what was happening in the prologue, he probably would have survived.
I have not played Village yet, though I have seen every other scene mentioned in this video. Debra and her sister both deserved to die which makes me unsympathetic towards them. Annette literally sat her infected daughter in a room while she worked on her own research. Annette cared more about her work addiction than her own daughter. She is also a bigot since Annette showed clear hostility towards Leon, but not Claire. Annette is responsible for the creation of the virus. Steve deserves a higher place on this list. The scene where he was forced to shoot his father which had become a zombie is one of the most memorable scenes in any Resident Evil I have played. Piers definitely deserves the top spot on this list.

Ethan didn't really die though. Or to be more specific; he died in RE7, but continued to exist as one of the "molded", and then continued in an even lesser form and helped Rose in the DLC.
The fact that for some dumbass reason Capcom didn't want us to see his face, made us even more disconnected with him.
You can't give a guy a personality, a name, and his own lines of dialogue, and expect the players to connect with him by then now showing his face.
His "death" was tragic, but far from deserving the number 1 spot.
Number 1 for me is Luis. Nothing is more tragic than a man who wanted to atone for his past sins, and dies trying to do so, trying to change.

Ill tell you what... I was salty af and sad af when I failed to save Rebecca my first playthrough of Resident Evil Remastered... That's probably the only death that actually got to me since being in that mansion the whole time by myself and Rebecca was like the only character you spend time with.
