- Welcome to Part 7 of my Goodbye Camper, Hello Caravan series. In this video, I'll be installing the solar panels on the roof of the caravan, to complete the off-grid electrical system.
Thanks to my twin brother Rusty from Rusty's Metal Cut Signs & Designs for the use of his plasma cutting table to make the solar panel mounting hole template. Check out his channel here: / @rustysmetalcutsignsde...

Been awhile, always satisfying diy jobs
Hey Louis, thanks for kind words. Yes, I've been doing 'other stuff', but I do have another couple of videos to upload shortly.
Well done Rusty, your design and professional engineering is nothing short of brilliant, I think I need your help with my prospecting trailer!
Thankyou for your kind words, Gary. Happy to help with your prospecting trailer.
Where have you been? Good to see you back!
Hey Greg, I've been busy doing 'other stuff', but I have a couple more videos, including a couple for my other channel, too.
Great video, well explained! I just wish I had a "brother" with a workshop setup like yours 😆
Thanks Glen. My 'brother' has his own channel....check out 'Rusty's Metal Cut Signs & Designs' on UA-cam.
Great work did you need to change your gas struts to accommodate the new panels
Hi Armon, yes, the gas struts were buggered, so in replacing them, I went for the next stronger rated size, and they work a treat.
I've not got my Starlink dish on a bracket attached to the cross arms, so I'm grateful for the stronger gas struts.
Will your solar cable interfere with the annexe
Hi Joe, you raise an interesting question. I don't have an annexe attached to the caravan, as I carry a 3m x 3m gazebo, so I don't have any issues with the cable. If I did add an annexe, I'd have to route the cables differently....either into the van on the other side, or space the annexe off the pop top roof, to clear the cables on that side of the van.
