Monopoly 🤔❗ We'll need a "Linux for VR" too, to fight that back and bring some balance... you know, we would have: the Paid O.S. (Horizon OS), the free and Opensource ("Linux VR" or something similar) and maybe a 3rd option... similar to Apple's alternatives for PC. Thank you for making this nice analysis 👍🏻💯
A universal VR os is definitely needed, but if the Meta Link software is anything to judge by the I don't have high hope. Link is one of THE worst pieces of software I've ever used.
I think it's bad news. It's likely its going to be a closed system even though they say it's open there will be restrictions on what we can create. No APK sideloading...
I hope so too! It's going to be a bit of another learning curve to learn to develop apps for a new OS. Hopefully it's easy to use and does work with apks.@@razortosh
I'd be surprised if they don't allow apk sideloading. It would put a huge wrench in their idea of a "open system". Let's just hope they lean more towards it being mostly open. No matter what, Meta is going to Meta at the end of the day 😆
@@FistFullofShrimp Yeah that's what I fear Meta being Meta and forcing us to learn a new OS. Hopefully Unity can quickly get on board... lol thanks for the great tutorials I have subscribed!
What is the current adoption of Horizon OS? is there a key announcement of other VR headset vendors? I think the move is brilliant by not reducing access to only their app store... so Xbox, Steam or other platforms can be used to install games. So, straight to the point, what about Valve? they have SteamOS :) And the soon to be announced "Android XR platform" from google :P (Google tried to convince Meta to abandon their platform like 2 months ago) - Samsung will be adopting Google's so seems we have an interesting fight ahead... Thoughts?
I really think it‘s gonna be great. That could be the step to finally get vr Mainstream and as a Indie vr Dev and enthusiast(hope it translates like that in english?😅) since the first oculus dk, i‘m really happy about it.
Any development is usually good, the negative party is only privecy and policy that we are losing if we want to or not
definitely a step in the right direction
I'm optimistic that it is too!

It won't be popular or serious.
Thanks for watching! A Linux for VR would be great! I'd be surprised to actually see that project come together though.
You could imagine one that respects your privacy and user choices... you won't get it but you could imagine one.
Thanks for the concise coverage.
You bet! 🍤🍤

Yeah... the Meta SDK for Unity can also be a bit of a hurdle too. Let's hope they can pull it together for their OS!

if it's opensource i can imagine we will find a way in the first week or so.

I'm hoping so too. If anything, I hope handling the OS will inspire other hardware companies get into the VR game with that barrier to entry lowered.
Wait, wait, wait... you PRETEND to be a shrimp?!?
Did I say shrimp? I meant human. The English language is so difficult for us shrimps 🍤
