- “Our Revolutionary Spirit” is a short film produced for Rutgers’ 250th anniversary. The film tells the stories of Rutgers trailblazers, blending archival photos and footage with narrators, scenes, and stories from the Rutgers of today.
“Rutgers was founded in 1766, by revolutionary thinkers in revolutionary times,” says one of the film’s narrators. “Two hundred fifty years later, Rutgers people are still making a difference. They’re still coming up with revolutionary ideas and changing the world.”
The film features these stories: Simeon DeWitt, a 1776 alumnus who served as George Washington’s geographer during the Revolutionary War; microbiologist Selman Waksman, winner of the Nobel Prize; actor and activist Paul Robeson; Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman; sculptor George Segal; Lt. Gen. Flora Darpino, the Judge Advocate General for the U.S. Army; and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
