- Hey ! Thanks for clicking on my video, in this video I use a tool I bought from machined Integrations USA and grease the wheel bearings on my 2017 Yamaha Grizzly 700. MI makes a grease tool for pretty much every make and model machine, the tool wasn't cheap at around $100 CAD but quality stuff isn't cheap and cheap stuff isn't quality. (Generally) haha

Once upon a time I didn't think this was necessary due to sealed bearings. Yesterday I put new bighorns on and discovered my front right bearing had gone bad only after 750 miles. Then the left bearing that had 2500 miles on it fell apart once I pulled the axle out of the hub. Had to replace both front bearings in the cold yesterday. Just ordered one. Thank you
Hey man ! I feel you pain, I did the same thing with my old grizzly, I replaced the wheel bearings all aorund with "All Balls" brand of wheel bearing, I figured they came greased... I was wrong haha must have just been some assemby grease in there, they didnt last long. My new bike I wanted to do better maintanance with the bearings and hear lots about the MI tool, so I thought I'd give it a try. I hope it works out for ya !!

I read an article years ago written by a bearing specialist and he stated that those types of bearings should never be completely filled with grease.
Thanks man! did it mention why? You'd think grease would be better than water and dirt... these are 4000km on them and still going so...
all you have to remove on the front is the lower ball joint....on the rear just remove the lower bolt and the axle nuts of course...when installing the axle nuts install them on a different axle that way the lock is in a different spot..I have 2500 kms on my 2019 grizzly ,I grease the pivot shafts after every ride,,I have greased my bearings replaced brake pads and have had to replace 2 rear outer
ripped boots.luv the 2019 ride and the steering is much easier than my 09..thanks for sharing another great video.

I agree with ya, the ride is much smoother on the newer Grizzlies and I love the power steering (I never thought i'd admit that haha) I haven't had to replace anything on my 2017 2100km other than oil changes and cleaning the air filter.
Did you know there's a Service Bulletin out for "ALL 2016-2018 700 Grizzlies" regarding the piston ring is to small causing it to smoke when cold, and burn oil more regularly? Yamaha won't do a thing about it because it's not safety related! Do you notice either of the two aforementioned? I have a 2016, and it's cursed with this major issue that Yamaha has dropped the ball on! Great video. I'm just a bit confused how the grease gets into a sealed bearing? Hope you can help?
@@imagoodmann Hey man ! I did see a notice go out but I haven't received anything from yamaha. apparently they will only do work on the bike if it is actually smoking or burning oil.... mine doesn't (as of now) so I might go in and get some questions answered. maybe make a video out of it.
YES I Know I was wondering the sae thing haha apparently there is two bearings in each hub, the outside of each bearing is sealed but the inside of each bearing is not. They both meet in the middle of the hub and there is a small gap between them, so the grease tool fits in and forces grease into the non sealed, inner parts of the bearings. you will see grease come out the front and back when it's filled. I hope I explained that right.... I could be totally off haha but I believe that to be true.

Hey ! yeah man it's supposed to really help your bearings ! im told there are newer models from MI and some cheaper ones that do the same thing on eBay from China, so do your research and get what's best for you.

Get good ones for sure! Spend a little extra but they are a must have for sure.
You can pop the seals on the bearing and destroy the bearing, dont add too much grease folks!

MI makes a set of “over the axel” greasers so you don’t have to take the spindles off. Just take the hub off. I have a set of them for my Polaris’. There even quicker than the one you’ve got.

Saying that the spindles came out and went back in really easy on my bike. might be a few min's quicker but im not a NASCAR pic crew haha But I will let anyone who asks know about your grease tool, tell them to check that one out. thanks buddy !

hahahaha yep once she goes then you can put a new bearing and grease it lol. If youre local to me, you can borrow my grease tool if you want.
These things work really good and its really a must have in the tool box for sure. The ones for my Polaris go over the axles, don't need to remove.

@@Maritimer ride what you like is how I look at it. I like my Polaris, but I also really like the Yamaha's. Price was a big factor for me and I'm fortunate enough that the wife allowed me to even get either Haha.
The bearing greaser works good as far as I know. I just got them and haven't used them yet but all the videos I've watched, they look pretty easy to use. Besides that it's a long, cold winters here in Manitoba so it keeps my hands dirty during those rough months lol.
yeah I agree with ya, it really doesn't matter to me too much what you ride, I just like seeing people on the trails.

Oh man.... those things are impossible. I was able to get mine because I had the wheel and bunch of parts disconnected haha what a bad design by Yamaha, I think you can replace them with grease nipples with a 45* angle on them, that may help.
Polaris wheels do use more grease, cuz they are turning faster! LOL Good video, looks like a cool gadget.

Good video but you do not use a torque wrench to tighten your nuts?
Hey man, which bolt are you talking about? the wheel nuts get tightened until they are tight and the notch lines up with the other notch, im sure there is a specific torque for it, but if the notches don't line up, you'd have to tighten/losen. Everything else I just go by feel, except the wheel nuts. I Hope that answered your question. All torque specs are in the owners manual or online.

hahaha Yes Sir !!!! the Machined Integrations tool worked really good ! it was expensive though (around $100) but I've been told there are cheaper ones on the market that also work good and some you don't need to take the hub off to use.... not sure how that works haha but some guys swear by it.
Grizzlies are amazing bikes but I'm having a really hard time weather to just start rebuilding my 20 year old grizzly or buy a new one? I can definitely freshen up the motor and everything else for a quarter of the price than buying a new one.

How come you torque the wheel nuts but you don’t torque the axel nut? I bet if you look there is a torque setting.
Hey ! thanks ! and you're right ! but you have to make sure the axel nut notch lines up with the other notch (that you saw me hit down with a hammer and punch) that keeps the nut on there and not backing off. so I tightened using the impact then tighten until the notches line up. I'm no mechanic, this was just to give you an idea of how to go about using this tool.
How often do you grease the wheel bearings? Not sure if you do it the same time you change the oil on the Grizzly or not

RzR have no grease in them and a very poor seal I've had 2 of them. I put in as many as 25 shots of grease. But now I have a Wolverine, problem solved. But they have their weak point too.

Oh really? I haven't heard about bad seals in their bearings, I was just going by a video I saw, and I like to poke fun at other brands also haha they all have weak points, no getting around that. I Love those Wolverines, i'll have a test ride video coming out soon of the Wolverine R Spec x2.

im sure if you had a bearing press and you could press the bearings out, then you can hand pack the grease in the bearings..... this is just easier. there are different ones too, you dont only need Machined Integrations one. as far as a link there may be one in the description Or just google Machined Integrations and goto their website, you can click the make/model of your machine and they will send ya the right tool.

27mm. I have a 2009 Grizzly 550 and I’ve had all of the hubs off several times. The mud where I ride can’t be avoided and it’s hard on bearings, seals and brakes.
the epi one i have you don't need to pull the wheel bearing off. it slides over the axles. good video even tho its for a grizzly lol

haha Oh I just mentiones I saw a guy put like 13 pumps of grease in his RZR bearings, and he said "you cant even have too much grease for a RZR" so nothing too bad haha
I have 4000 miles on my 2014 700 and just changed the bearings all wheels along with brake pads. I guess what I am saying is, that's a lot of work to grease sealed bearings. Are you sure the grease got inside the bearings?
Hey man ! you make a valid argument, but the bearings are sealed on both outside edges, the grease tool presses the grease in through the middle of the two (not sealed on the inside edge) thats how it was explained to me. my old 2008 grizzly, the OEM bearings lasted for about 4000klm too and then I replaced with "All Balls" bearings (they were cheaper) and they were complete junk, replaced them twice then went back with new OEM Yamaha ones before I sold it.

Someone was telling me not to pack them full of grease and saying it will wear out them faster, anyone know why?
Yeah I've had one guy say that to me.... but I'm not sure why ATV bearings would be any different than any other bearing... they all need grease... haha
I dont really subscribe to that way of thinking, I packed mine when I did this video (I cant remember when this was) but I haven't done it sense, I'm at 3800km and the stock bearings are still going strong... so...
only a few more minutes labour to install a new bearing

Hey just wana say the motomaster grease is basically no good compared to lucas red n tacky. It would take too long to explain but grease is one thing we cant cheap out on! On a hot day the motomaster would basically wash out, lucas probly lasts 3x longer and beats all other grease in every category

@@Maritimer yes it would be fine for winter, it basically takes longer to wash out and it handles the temp fluctuation real well thats why I think its fine for winter. I always use the red rtv as well for sealing plastics I find the stuff rated for high temp tends to last. Thanks for your reply!

I have a question. How offend do you grease your wheel bearings?
Hey man ! ahh I guess it depends on how much riding yu do and what type of riding. if your a mud guy you will probably need to grease them more often to get the dirt out of the bearings. I trail ride 99% of the time so its a lot easier on bearings, so I think one a year would be more than enough for me. Also if you run big heavy mud tires that can be harder on the bearings.
Wouldnt it just be easier to wait till your bearings go and change them? How long do bearings cost and last vs the time and cost to do this? ...🤔

I cant remember off hand.... but When I ordered it, it asked the Make/Model/Year of my machine and they sent the correct one.

Hey man, from what I read on the Yamaha Grizzly FB group, he is really behind and overwhelmed right now. Some guys paid for their tool and still haven't received it,, partly due to the COVID thing going on..... I know there are other brands who make the tool, maybe one of those will work for ya?

hahahahahaha No No, we use grease. Maple Syrup is what we use to shine the bikes up ! haha

Hey ! oh yeah? I've never had any issue with the Yamaha bearings, my Grizz is at 3000+ km and still original bearings/brakes/bushings. My guess is they all buy them from the same manufacturer.

hahaha have to be a strong table to support an ATV. I do have a small lift but I did this job at my buddies place.
