I show how to remove a wheel from a trailer axles to clean off all the old grease and then repack the bearings with new fresh grease so that you have clean well lubricated wheel bearings on any sized utility trailer, dump trailer, car hauler, or other basic 1/2 ton truck towable trailer with standard axles and bearings.
Bearing preload is 1/4 past hand tight the back it off. Old seals should never be used unless you can't find one before starting the job. If you need to reuse the old seal, put the tire hub assembly back on, thread your nut back on and use the assembly like a slide hammer to knock the inner bearing and seal out of the hub. Works like a dream every time.
Your willpower Sir! No profanity, or throwing anything when that bearing hit the dirt. I could borrow some of that. You are a true gentleman
Haha gotta keep it clean for UA-cam! You know when I went back in that shop I was pissed!
Thanks for the instruction and leaving the "dropped bearings into the dirt" in the video. I've never changed one but am about to do so. It showed me what to look out for and just how simple the bearings are to replace.
i had the same issue getting the grease cap off initially, but i found if you grip it from the front, with the open end facing the wheel and rock the cap up & down, it comes off MUCH easier.
it's press fitted in the hub, so twisting it from the side will be much harder to break the seal and you'll likely just keep turning it forever.
Good job. Real life w/the bearing hitting the dirt. Thanks for the training.
Twice
Note to self: put a piece of scrap cardboard under your trailer wheel in case you drop the parts!
I thought the exact same thing...and I was waiting for it to fall in the dirt when he installed the wheel with the bearing in it..I wasn't disappointed!!....Preventative actions....
😆
Great video sir!
I knew, I knew, I knew -gonna drop the nice cleaned and regreased outer bearing in the dirt when installing the wheel! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for making a great instructional video. Appreciate the tips and tricks.
Thanks for watching!
I just recently installed buddy bearings (harbor freights version) on my small utility trailer. I just pull with the mower and atvs off road at slow speed. So far so good.
I’ve heard of those and they seem pretty good for keeping them lubricated. I want some. But I think it’s necessary to take it all apart and clean it up once every few years.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects definitely, that what I did with these. That trailer sat about 20 years.
Seal puller is like 8 bucks. Crazy how much better it works.
Great video, thanks!
Omg man, I would be so pissed if that front bearing plopped out onto the dirt when reinstalling the wheel. I'd say a few not very nice words, probably would be some kicks at something too. This whole thing is such a hassle, that's why I don't do it. You know how you had a hard time with that dust cap? Yeh I dunno if you wheel hub has a zerk, but mine does in the back. What I do is I just pump mine full of grease until that cap goes flying off lol. Then I know I'm good. Haha! Merry Christmas Derek!
It was annoying! I have heard of those bearing buddies. They seem like a handy addition!
like the bearing packer
It worked good.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching man!
Can I use diesel to wipe and clean up the bearings and spindles?
It’s a petroleum based product so I don’t see why not, but I don’t really know.
Liked and Commented for the UA-cam Algorithm ;P
I knew you didn't know what you were doing when you used the old seal, bearings and races
It was a bearing repack video, like the title said, not a bearing, race, and seal replacement, as the title of the video would not have indicated.
Dads trailer has a squeak we need to do this to his.
Dad needs to do it to his 😂
You don't pack any extra grease inside?
I put bearing buddies on shortly after this and pumped them full of grease.
So, essentially, this is a video on how not to do this but getting it done anyways?
Some of the sloppiest work
I've never watched a more useless human I have it just don't know where it is blah blah blah I have gloves don't know why I'm not wearing them 😂😂
Although I was wondering why he was telling us to do it another way but then did what he said not to do. I would not call him or anyone useless and I thank him for taking the time to share.
Where's your video 😢
