I bet they could do little 5 minute skits at the beginning of every episode in the vein of Disney when they used to be on top of its game with those Pixar shorts before a movie started. Instead we got Arthur finding out what an iPhone is. Idk probably save the smart phone skit til the very end. That's genius tho! I would love to see it!

What people fail to undestand is that Harry Potter movies were made by some of the greates directors in the world. These people had their own vision, which is why the movies were a little bit different from the book. This is often the best way to adopt a book - change it a little bit so that the director would be able to show their own version of the story.
HP books have some problems in them and some things are better left out. Hermione being rediculed for starting a campaign for the house elves rights is just... Don't tell me you liked that part of the books. If someone chooses to remake Harry Potter 20 years later - fine. But not now.

@Mg88r2d2 completely agree with you. She was extremely awkward and had no chemistry with Harry. What a terrible portrayal of a beloved character. Percy was mostly left out. Lupin's relationship with Harry was almost nonexistent and his and Tonk's death were treated as an afterthought. Don't even get me started on how they handled Fred's death. But to me the biggest sin was how Michael Gambon portrayed Dumbledore 🤦

It won't be too soon! If the new series will happen they'll be out 2025-26 and the first movie adaptation was 2001, so plenty of time has passed between. And assuming it will be one season/year it'll be finished around 2030-31, that makes close to 20 years since the last of the films were out.
+ We deserve at least a reasonably faithful live-action adaptation of the books by now. I am sorry movie-fans but judging by the entirety of the 8 movies, in spite of a few memorable moments just weren't very good. Watchable at best.

Luna is played great, but her character is different from the books. She is supposed to be crazy. Like literally crazy, as medical therm. Not in the cute way "the only one who can really see how world is really works", but in inadequate way. This animal horn is not dangerous, it won't explode --- boom! Reader should not know if brain flies exists and should be uncertain about everything Luna said, but we clearly saw them flying around Harry's head when she find him in the train. That's wrong.
And so they missed very interesting theme of mental health in a magical world, all those parallels with Neville parents, Dumbledore, Dumbledore relatives and Voldemort.

I agree. Too much was cut or portrayed incorrectly in the movies. In my opinion, the worst offender was the prisoner of Azkaban. The director gave us a very artsy picture with barely a story. He actually wanted to cut out more but J.K. Rowling told him "No More!" Also, give Ron his lines back! The fact that they gave his best stuff to Hermione to make her look better and him stupid makes me dislike her. And one of my biggest problems with the movies, the Ravenclaw colors are BRONZE and BLUE, House symbol is a GOLDEN EAGLE. That was the biggest disservice they could have to Ravenclaw fans. Its difficult to get merch with the correct colors and symbol. Hopefully this will be corrected.
The best thing though on a reboot is that as this is a TV series, not only can they cover all the information from the books, they can also add anything left out but was mentioned or covered by J.K. Rowling after. The whole story can be expanded beyond the books and movies.
Haters are going to hate, if they don't like it, no one is forcing them to watch.

I’ve said it a few times and I’ll say it again, ‘The Noble House of Black’ would be an incredible series. Not only would audiences see beloved characters such as sirius and the rest of the marauders, but they would also see great villains again such as narcissa, bellatrix, and even Voldemort too, but from a different perspective. It would also be fantastic to see characters such as Regulus and Andromeda, who weren’t involved with the original movies. We could see the upbringings of the 5 main blacks and how they were shaped into the characters that we know from the books and movies. It would also be a chance to see the story of the first wizarding war, not only from the perspective of the order of the Phoenix, but from the perspective of original death eaters as well.

    • @mgp1203
      @mgp1203 6 місяців тому +2

Right I totally agree. There's so much untapped potential in a character-driven story about the younger Black children with the first war being the over-arching plot. It would be in a majority Slytherine perspective too which would be a new and unique experience. We would be able to get to know the Marauders through Sirius, and Ted and Andromeda would be the main romance slowly developing over the course of the show. Their relationship has the potential be something truly special given their backgrounds. It'd also be really great to explore the development of Sirius and Andromeda unlearning their prejudice and how that would contrast to Bellaxtrix and Regulus being radicalised.
I'm hoping this reboot is a success tbh because it would inevitably spawn other HP spinoffs like they did with Game of Thrones, and I hope they consider a series following this concept.

I grew up with both the films and the books. I learned to read with the first book. This story is pretty dear to my heart. But the movies, while pretty good, had a lot of issues, mostly the later ones. Many characters were too old, the 6th movie was turned into basically a romantic comedy until the end, a lot of small stories missing, turning Ron into a dumb character, and giving a lot of Ginny and Ron's character development to Hermione, Voldemort's death, etc, etc. I am truly excited about the tv series. I hope they make a good job, and I think people should keep an open mind. The movies will always be there, they are not been delegated from existence, you can still enjoy them. And I bet there will be some cameos going on in the series over time for the fans.

I think if done the right way, a reboot could work. So many characters were totally different from their book counterparts. For example, Voldemort was a little goofy. That hug with Draco & other cringe things he did. The backstory was also handled poorly. When they changed Tom Riddle's line from "annoy" to "mean" it was a horrible decision. I remember the scene when Slughorn was talking to Tom, I got chills seeing how manipulative Tom was. Then seeing the horror on Slughorn's face when he realizes what he has done. Lastly, the final battle was really bad. It would've been epic to see Ginny, Hermione & Luna take on Bellatrix, instead Hermione & Ron were throwing rocks at Nagini. Also to see the three-way duel with Voldemort, McGonagall, Slughorn & Kingsley. I think a reboot can show how far off the mark the movies were. A lot of people who saw the movies did not read the books. I think as new generations read the books and watch the show. It might grow into something interesting. Even one of the golden trio was done dirty. It has been covered on the channel. Ron was loyal, kind & intelligent. He was jealous of Harry, but I think he regrets how he treated his best friend. Harry never asked for the fame, Ron understood that. The movies also shoved in a romantic plot line for Harry & Hermione. Some of the movie changes made no sense. I never realized how bad until you covered the books vs the movies. But only time will tell.

Lavender was portrayed by a person of colour in Chamber of Secrets, then by a caucasian girl in Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows. I can't see Luna being trans or Crabbe and Goyle being homosexuals, even though gender and sexual identity were not a part of the character descriptions either. Which means there is room to add some representation for the LGBTQ+ community, but that doesn't mean characters who fit under that umbrella need to be forced into the story or already established characters need to undergo a change to their gender and sexual identities just for the sake of "diversity and representation".

As it's meant for you, the player itself to derive a backstory for your character, a succesful RPG gives you that option. They should focus instead on a continuation of their sixth and seventh year.
With new plot-lines regarding ancient magic, perhaps involving death itself and the creation of the deathly hallows as it was part of one of trials the keepers showed us. Then to also answer unfinished plot lines like Sebastian arc and the Triptych quest-line as it was never explained what happened with Isadora's portrait or why she can't appear. One of the biggest problems I have with the idea of a Harry Potter reboot series is that you can’t replace the original Harry Potter cast. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, the Phelps twins, Alan Rickman, Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, and all of the other actors and actresses are so well known for playing the characters that nowadays it’s impossible to imagine new people taking on the roles. Even if this reboot does well, fans will always compare the new cast to the old cast because all of the original cast members are now very famous because of their incredible performances and involvement in the movies. And that’s not fair to the new cast because no one should like to be constantly compared to the person who did the same role they’re doing now.

A Marauders film would be kind of boring. They’re a backstory element, you don’t need to tell backstory by its very nature. You could never meaningfully put a single one of them in mortal peril because we know for a fact they’ll survive. It’s the same reason the Han Solo film was low stakes throughout. And there’s just no revelation that can occur because we all know the story already. Lots of people have asked GRRM to depict Robert’s Rebellion (and who knows HBO might twist that one out of him) and he’s just like why? You know what happens?
If you like the fanfic stuff just stick with that. Making a film would please approximately nobody
everything of importance with that story is already covered in the Harry Potter books and films. It wouldn't show anything new, but it would have its hands tied by the original story.
I honestly don’t get this and never have.
Because I don’t even know what this series would even be about? It would boil down to being a slice of life school story about bullies.
We already know the most of their backstory. They weren’t involved in the war at all until after school. They don’t become Animagi until the 5th year. You could explore the school a bit but we already heavily covered that throughout Harry’s story.
And worse. If they deviate from the backstory you have a huge chance that they break established canon and annoy the fanbase.
I just don’t understand how this would even be interesting.

Bit of defend to James here
One do have to remember the wizard world was in a war. It was so bad that Hagrid himself even said that it was very dark times and that everybody was so scared that even after the war ended they still refuses to use the dark wizard's name. Wars changes people. James had to see allies and friends getting killed right in front of him.
You have to remember that he just became a father for a year and he find out that the dark wizard was going to go after his son. The man who let nobody lives when he decided to kill them. James had to be protective of his family. This wasn't about himself. He was willingly to hide in order to protect his wife and son. Then when he came, he tried his best to protect them.
You have to remember that he lost his parents young due to them being old when they had him. No doubt that he wishes that they were still around and that they could had met their grandson.
You have to remember that for all of his flaws he was still friends with both a werewolf and someone who comes from a pure-blood extremist family background. He didn't judges Remus and Sirius which is why both are so loyal to him even after his death.
James went through lot as a young adult and likely experience some kind of spiritual change as a result so how can one say that he didn't changes? Also, some people don't get to bury the hacket but while it would been nice to do so, does that really mean that you changes or not? Some people will never get along no matter what. Also, even if he did, would Snape even accepts it? Would Snape even admit his own wrong doing in the feud? You can't put all the blame on James because Snape played a role in this too. Also, Snape became a death eater during their young adulthood so why on earth would James want to say "I'm sorry" to him?

The whole point of a spin-off is creating a new but faithful story for a side story/character in the source material. It's covered in the books, But as a side story, it's just what Harry saw.We need it as a full story. How they discovered many secret pathways, marauders map, wizarding war in more details, also movies didn't cover them. We didn't get to see marauders in live action.

    • @mgp1203
      @mgp1203 6 місяців тому

The Marauders themselves would be uneventful protagonists. They would make for better side characters as their school life would lack any real plot. If any series of characters should get a spinoff in that era, it should be House Black with the five children of the last generation as main characters, the over arching plot being the first wizarding war.
It'd be in a majority Slytherine perspective which would be a fresh experience, and the story would be character-driven with a focus on family dynamics, prejudice and class politics. We can follow the marauders through Sirius but they would be sidelined to side characters, as Sirius unlearning his prejudices would take precedence - same as Andromeda, when she falls in love with muggle-born Ted Tonks. It would contrast well with Bella and Regulus being radicalised.
The potential drama the Black family offer and their proximity to the dark side during the first war make for a much better story.

i read both of your comments and i still think there's not enough story there to do anything... however all this talk is pointless Rowling is no allowing anybody to touch anything related to the canon timeline...
I can see warner doing something with the founders in the future though. Is the only spin-off that makes sense. It's completely open to a new story and world-building, and it's barely connected to the main story, so the risk of damaging the canon is minimal and Rowling seems to not care that much about making new things if they're not related to the Harry Potte main timeline. If they handle it right, it could be a huge hit and attract different fans other than Potterheads.

How about a different spin-off series idea? Picture this: a series focusing on Frank Bryce, the Muggle killed by Voldemort in 'Goblet of Fire.' His story might not seem closely linked to the wizarding world, but it's intriguing. He fought in WW2, worked as the Riddle family's gardener, and ended up wrongly suspected of their mysterious deaths. Just before facing the hangman's noose, he's saved by a medical bill. Years later, Voldemort ends his life. (Here's the twist: Now we get the opportunity to witness the afterlife of JKR's POV) Then, a few months later, he witnesses a boy (Harry Potter) facing the one who killed him. The boy survives. And with skilled writing, this could be an amazing story. Anyone else intrigued by this idea?

The one thing that gives me a bit of hope is Rowling's level of control, which could hopefully mean pursuing artistic incentives instead of just or even mainly financial ones. I really wanted an animated series for awhile, not rebooting the movies so much as readapting the books. Drawing contrasts and going a different direction would be important across the board. That includes animated vs live action, but also having more Scottish, Welsh and Irish voice actors(maybe an Aussie or South African too?), having a couple more characters of minority background(South Asian Oliver Wood?), showing a different side of how characters are presented(like giving Ron his due and bringing Hermione back down to earth, or Snape as not always in control of himself), having Quidditch-centered episodes that are told as sports dramas, giving a different tone(a brighter PoA and darker HBP), adding a bit to the early books, and highlighting the Christian storytelling side of the whole thing, which probably was right not to include in the movies but shouldn't be ignored.
It's a shame how much oxygen has been sucked up by unnecessary reboots and sequels in Hollywood generally. It's the same story just at a higher level of technology. Harry Potter could be a different story, let the movies be the movies and try something new.
