Ryan is so well-spoken. He continues to surprise me with his answers that incorporate different disciplines and presents a point of view that most people never thought to connect the dots.
same. Every time I visit it feels so magical but then when someone asks me why I wouldn't move there I'm like "it would be way too stressful for me". I already live in a pretty big city and that's stressful enough so to live in New York would be that x10!! Also I want NYC to feel magical every time I go there and I know if I moved there it would lose some of its magic
It's a bit extreme so it attracts certain personality types more than others. Like really ambitious, competitive, and extroverted people. If you have more of a "work to live" mindset or have social anxiety, it's not a great place. Likewise, maintaining an active social life takes a lot of energy, so many people, so much noise, have to talk so much, loud, and be more interesting than others to not get ignored. That said, it's got a lot of pros as well and the only comparable city in the US is Chicago, followed by Philadelphia. Chicago looks a lot nicer and isn't as intense but hasn't been a trendy city for decades.
I want to move to NYC after I graduate so it was really cool to hear about the city from someone who does what I want to do and just be really honest about it; instead of just being like " OmG gUyS ItS sO CoOl!!!!" thanks dads
You forgot about the fact that New Yorkers don’t care if you’re famous or not unless they are huge huge fan but they will talk to you or get their picture and move on with their lives. But they treat celebrities like anyone else on the street. They literally do not care.
lol not in LA!! Any time I go anywhere the question is what celebrities have I met. If I recognize a celebrity at a coffee shop, I personally don't do anything, but everyone else screams and makes a big deal and asks for an autograph.
as someone moving to NYC later this year i really loved this video bc it was realistic without being dramatic if that makes any sense. like when people who have lived in NYC talk about living there they either sugar coat everything or make it seem way worse than it is, but they realistically explained that it is simultaneously a stressful experience, but also an amazing one.
I went to vacation to both LA and NYC and you two made such realistic points on both ends. I saw the calmness in LA and the hustle lifestyle in NYC. The cars in NYC move way faster than LA, (
Not true, I’ve been to both cities and people drive much faster in LA. NYC drivers drive slow because the streets are so narrow, the streets are narrow in LA too but most ppl drive fast cars and drive fast and LA drivers drive good despite driving fast, they know how to maneuver around traffic on narrow streets while going 45 to 60 mph
My mind is blown by Ryan's answer to the difference in cultures. I lived in Orange County and now in Pennsylvania and what he said, I've never thought about it that way, but was so spot on! As always love the content and insight.
The question: what you don’t like about your city Me, who was born and raised in NYC: well, there is a block that we call “urine alley” because it always smells like pee. I think that sums it up.
I hope you guys know I watched this to prep myself bc im moving to LA and later NYC at some point. Very informative, fascinating, this was awesome. Thanks sm for this, loved this sm!!! Definitely helped me out too!!
Speaking of the danger of being in NYC and not going at the NYC pace: When I was in NYC in high school, I sprained my ankle super badly the first day that we were there and was on crutches. We had to walk through Time Square at one point and of course I was having trouble keeping up with the pace of the crowd so a man completely plowed me over into the street (like I fully hit the ground hard, luckily close enough to the curb to not get hit by a car) and he glared at me and said "Get out of the way or you'll pay" while storming off and if that isn't the most NYC experience then idk wtf is.
As someone moving to NYC for college this fall and whose industry is located in LA, this was such a fascinating video to watch and I just think your thoughts of the culture and life are so cool and insightful, esp the history x life of the two. Loved this video!!!
I like how you guys summarize culture base on status and wealth. There’s so much more to that in both cities. Both of you should have been more focused on the different types of people, food, museums, and areas rather than your superficial understanding of what true LA/NYC culture really is….
I'd be so curious to see your thoughts on nyc now with everything sorta opening up again but the trains and stuff not being as crazy, it's been really weird to see the subtle transition of the typically unforgiving pieces of new york
i want to go to college in or near nyc so this is definitely helpful 😂😂 (i’m from a small town in upstate new york so it would be a pase change for sure)
WoW this just made me realise American cities are kinda depressing and that’s coming from someone who lives in one of the most densely populated areas of the world
i’m late sorry dad:( i went on a two hour walk with my friends for the first time in a while and i feel happy for the first time in a while except when i watch your videos or you talk to me in your live streams
New York is physically a bottleneck urban city that relies on public transportation with one city center, where as Los Angeles is a suburban sprawling city that relies on cars and freeways and has multiple centers
I wish there was a video where people are real. I lived in both cities, these stereotypes are so bogus and it’s not like that when you live in these cities. NYC isn’t that expensive pound for pound.
I lived in this small town in in Mexico called "San Miguel de Allende" for about 5 years and I can say it is a better/small town version of LA, I personally love it because you can practically walk yourself everywhere plus the culture there is very welcoming and homey, I feel like you'd both enjoy visiting sometime!
I'm a born + raised Angeleno, and I hate the LA culture. I can't wait to get out of here - I go to college in PA and I just visited NYC for the first time a few weeks ago! I hate coming home to LA for breaks because I don't have friends here - most of my friends now are east coasters. All my friends growing up were situational friends, and now that the situation is over, the friendship has withered away. I've been shot in the back so many times, after putting tons of effort in, just like Ryan was saying. I've also been a non-rich person at a rich school in LA for so long and it's hard because they're so loud about it - it becomes a divider. It was kind of nostalgic taking the bus on Hollywood Blvd last week, but it didn't have the magic that Times Square did for me, and that's simply because I grew up here in LA and I just find it obnoxious and gross now. I'm also a super gritty person so maybe I'd really like NYC! I loved this episode, thank you
I am moving to L.A. in 2022, and everyone talks about the "what can you do for me?" kind of culture. That's the only worry I have. I hope I can make genuine selfless friendships
If you don't work in the entertainment industry, you don't really need to worry about that. If you do work in the entertainment industry, make sure you look for friends outside of it. Animators are cool though, you can be friends with animators.
I have a genuine question. So I'm from gilroy California and here we call people who live in tents hobos . Are they hobos there or are they regular mentality healthy people forced to live in tents ? I'm just confused 😕
Depends! It's really hard to afford and secure housing here. There are plenty of totally mentally healthy people who for various reasons cannot get proper housing.
Ryan is wrong about just gold rush. Cali was a part of Mexico at one time so it has alot of Hispanic culture mix with the gold rush. I will never understand people that only live for a certain amount of years in a particular State and feel that they can talk like they lived there all there Life lol
My name is Gavin. When Ryan yelled my name it rattled me. I so rarely hear my name yelled. A versus suggestion: horror movies. I'm guessing Sam likes them and Ryan doesn't. Bye!
I feel like they should listen to “L.A.” by Joshua Bassett ‘cause that song perfectly encapsulates the downside of living in L.A. like they were saying in this vid
Ryan is so well-spoken. He continues to surprise me with his answers that incorporate different disciplines and presents a point of view that most people never thought to connect the dots.
This simultaneously made me want to move to New York, while also realising I would NEVER cope there.

So is LA, those born in LA and from there don’t care, and everyone knows someone famous
Completely unrelated to the video but the pink hair looks so good.

22:00 Ryan say it louder for the people in the back...of the line at starbucks lol
Sam, I live in New York, which is why I have to wait 3 hours until these videos are uploaded/premiered
19:58 Truer words have never been more real and spoken. LOVE THISSS!! :)

@@ericllorens1734 now that you mention it, you do make sense with that :)
@@ericllorens1734 bro you never stepped foot in the city if you say that 😂😂😂
Very good bowl-to-question ratio xD

These videos always make my day!! :)
The question: what you don’t like about your city
Me, who was born and raised in NYC: well, there is a block that we call “urine alley” because it always smells like pee. I think that sums it up.
@no step on snek! that’s all of NYC 😂😂
I love that they're both wearing blazers
“Culture is just people and history over time.” -Ryan
So poignant. ✨🤯
I know. Ryan encapsulated the essence of culture in a concise statement.
that gold rush and ellis island reference was an incredible observation/idea
you made
I hope you guys know I watched this to prep myself bc im moving to LA and later NYC at some point. Very informative, fascinating, this was awesome. Thanks sm for this, loved this sm!!! Definitely helped me out too!!
you guys should do a ravenclaw VS a slytherin
Very very well spoken and thought provoking answers !!!
I was born and raised in NY and just hearing how different LA is BLOWS my mind
I love hearing you two discuss topics. Like whatever you’re talking about you both bring in so much insight
Me through out most of the video: I think I'd rather live in LA
Ryan: In New York you get stabbed in the front
Me: NEW YORK HERE I COME
Speaking of the danger of being in NYC and not going at the NYC pace: When I was in NYC in high school, I sprained my ankle super badly the first day that we were there and was on crutches. i want a podcast from yall so badly omg
I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS DADDIES!
Oh my- I WAS THE ONLY ONE HERE FOR A SECOND-
As someone moving to NYC for college this fall and whose industry is located in LA, this was such a fascinating video to watch and I just think your thoughts of the culture and life are so cool and insightful, esp the history x life of the two. Loved this video!!!
Ryan is so big brain. I swear, everyone named ryan is just a genius.
Wow Ryan literally speaks my mind! His whole history lesson is me when I explain anything!
Why I love these episodes so much???!!
I like how you guys summarize culture base on status and wealth. There’s so much more to that in both cities. Both of you should have been more focused on the different types of people, food, museums, and areas rather than your superficial understanding of what true LA/NYC culture really is….
Been a huge fan of both of you for a few years now. Love that you 2 are dating and have a YT channel. You guys are such an inspiration
I'd be so curious to see your thoughts on nyc now with everything sorta opening up again but the trains and stuff not being as crazy, it's been really weird to see the subtle transition of the typically unforgiving pieces of new york
Hi :) books vs their movie adaptations may be the new topic :)
Having been to NYC and LA, I'd say that LA is much better to live in. NYC is to visit. After a couple weeks or so you're exhausted 😂
Omg, Ryan low key reminds me of one of the boys from Newsies. Haha, love ur vids guys. Have a great day ❤️
i want to go to college in or near nyc so this is definitely helpful 😂😂 (i’m from a small town in upstate new york so it would be a pase change for sure)
WoW this just made me realise American cities are kinda depressing and that’s coming from someone who lives in one of the most densely populated areas of the world
The funny thing is that neither of y'all are from there! But oh well made for a great video ❤️
I felt called out when ryan talked about the pace of NYC compared to indiana. But i still love you guys!!! ❤
i’m late sorry dad:( i went on a two hour walk with my friends for the first time in a while and i feel happy for the first time in a while except when i watch your videos or you talk to me in your live streams
New York is physically a bottleneck urban city that relies on public transportation with one city center, where as Los Angeles is a suburban sprawling city that relies on cars and freeways and has multiple centers
You both grew up in more rural areas, right? How about a rural vs urban?
Movies vs. Shows
this channel is so underrated

The lady is right. It is hard to make friends in Los Angeles. I used to live in Michigan, and I had a lot of friends. Not, in L.A.
1:01 this is adorable
always love a blazer moment
super useful video, I'll move to LA
Sam’s hair looks bomb
I LOVE THESE VIDS SO MUCH
7:01 girly i can tell by this that you havent seen Lima, Peru´s traffic and not only the traffic but how also some people in peru drive.
“NY” (really NYC) got represented by someone who ‘lives here’ 6 months out of a yr
🤔
keep up the good work you 2 :)
I am moving to L.A. in 2022, and everyone talks about the "what can you do for me?" kind of culture.

How is Ryan this knowledgeable? Man I should read more
LA Off Course ❤️
I don't even live in the US why am I here?
Mn vs indiana
Chicago is in the middle. lol
I need a third person in here to be Chicago
Why did I only just get the noti
Either yall are high or I am I can't tell

I lived in both cities for years.. LA is much better for me
NYC gives me the adrenaline thrill , la gives me relaxing vibes . Nyc is better imo been to both , more to do and see in nyc then la
pls pls pls make a nyc vlog next time u go
Ryan is wrong about just gold rush.

Bye!
I mean everyone knows nyc>La
la forever west coast best coast
I feel like they should listen to “L.A.” by Joshua Bassett ‘cause that song perfectly encapsulates the downside of living in L.A. like they were saying in this vid
I think I’m sixth
Yay hi
Nyc is not that much more expensive than LA lol idk where y’all been I lived on both coast
When it comes to rent it definitely is. You can get a 1000 sq ft apartment in LA for 2500 ... 2500 in NYC gets you a 600 sq studio in equivalent areas
@no step on snek! I’m sorry sir. I’ll be one of those transplants paying 3k+ for a 700sqft apt soon 😂
Why do they have people that’s not from la speak on LA lol
He sounds like more NY Hater than anything.
I like your brown hair why are you dying your hair
