There's a theory that this Asuka is THE Asuka from the original series and not the one from the movies with the eye patch. This is further proven because this plug suit is the original design, not the rebuild design. So like Rei being stuck in time, making her hair grow long, this Asuka was also stuck in time, with her body finally aging. I think it's beautiful that after many years (or loops it may have been), she finally got an apology from Shinji in the end.
Also this Asuka is named Sohryu, while the rebuild one is Shikinami.
Holy shit. Thanks for the background. As an original Evangelion fan, I’m ashamed I haven’t got to catch up with the rebuild because I was unable to obtain the content. Heck yea, I will add the lore to the next Evangelion unboxing. Really looking for a good Maki to purchase.
Nice theory and thanks for sharing it. What I've heard was a little different: This Asuka is a combination of both the series and the movie iterations. But it's, in my opinion, much more plausible that this is the original Asuka Langley Soryu.
And to be very honest here: The Rebuild-Movie Asuka was always very alien to me. After what happened to her in the second movie she became a different entity and I have my gribes with it how Anno, Tsurumaki and the many other directors handled her in the Rebuild series. They redeemed Mari last second, but also Mari wasn't handled that well after a promising debut in the second Rebuild movie.
Nice to know another Evangelion fan, this figure is Asuka Langley Shikinami, not Soryu, I've checked with the Pop Up Parade official site. But, it's funny how we don't have an exact answer to the characters except from speculation and deduction. I hope Hideaki san gives us more facts soon.
@@oricebucket I just checked the official english page of Good Smile (the product page of the figure) and there, like on the Box of the figure, she is only named Asuka Langley, neither Soryu nor Shihinami at the end. Of course it's not that I distrust you now, but just saying I haven't found any official product page of them were they call her by the full name. It wouldn't be too surprising though to call this figure Asuka Langley Shikinami to avoid confusion, because it's a figure from the new movies and that's her name. It would go down too deep into the series lore to market her with a different name. But from what I've seen Good Smile avoid overall to call her either Shikinami or Soryu :D
Thanks for making a comparison. It took german shops quite a while that they get their stock filled up with the Asuka Pop Up, which I've ordered just now. I also owned the SEGA SPM figure (back in the day SEGA made high quality prize figures from the Evangelion series, lot's of good stuff but the qualities of their PM and SPM figures faded heavily in the past 3 years due to new scultors and manufacturers), but this figure haven't survived a day. It refused to click in place with the included base and after pushing it a little, not even her right foot fell of but also her right hand. Gladly, the shop I've bought this figure from gave me the money back and I didn't even had to send them the old, broken one. Overall, Pop Up Parades do have issues now and then and partly horrible quality control, but if you get a good unit, they absolutely nailed it in this price class. Also own the long hair Rei Pop Up and I'm glad she will finally get company by Asuka.
Thank you, I just finished all my tasks and have time to reply now. It is the same over in my country where we have to wait slightly longer for shipments. I do agree with the older SEGA prize figures. It really fulfilled my desire for the Evangelion series. Now to get a fairly good one we have to pay scale figure prices. Really? My SEGA Asuka went into the base pretty easily, I'm not sure if the material warps during shipping, but that shouldn't happen. The glue might have reacted badly to the environment too. I feel bad that you received a defective one.
Pop Up Parades are also a hit and miss, but I'm glad you got Rei, because that one is absolutely gorgeous! Cheers! I love Germany! My favorite band, Rammstein. Haven't have a chance to see them because the tickets are always sold out.
@@oricebucket Greetings again! Yeah, it was unfortunate with the SEGA figure but to be fair, you cannot expect much for 25 Euros. But it shouldn't fall apart out of the box. But SEGA nowadays went with pretty cheap plastic, most likely different manufacturers throughout China. Just look at Funko, they have tons of cheap manufactoring stations throughout China and Vietnam and that's the reason their figures are ranging so drastically in quality.
My Pop Up Asuka arrived today and I'm very happy with her. Like we've experienced, Pop Up are hits and misses when it comes to quality control but usually, they deliver. And now Rei and Asuka are chilling together on my shelf :D
And don't worry, Rammstein is also sold out if you are living right behind a ticket shop nearby xD Have a nice week!

I had to get both, I liked the pose and face in both. The resemblance in the pop up is not fully there but she still has a cute face (which is something that bothers me with some previous asuka sega figures) Thanks for the vid!
Haha. We always do need to get a shelf full of our favorite figures. I think that's the thing about Eva, I like all my Eva figures looking cold. And yes! The face is the most important feature to me in a figure. Glad you like both of the figures! It made my day!
