Retired military here… not sure what bands call it, but we refer to it as “dress & cover” (alignment behind the one in front of you, and those to your periphery)…you guys’ was impeccable! The many hours of dedicated rehearsal and work is very evident. 🫡 SALUTE to you and your band mates!
Officer Ben sent me. Great video! Believe it or NOT, all that effort will pay huge dividends throughout your life. Regiment is good for men. It separates us from the misguided and the weak.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this....from the field!! There is nothing greater than the enthusiasm of college football! Yall did a great job! I usually only watch Alabamas million dollar band!! Thanks for the treat!! Roll tide roll!! From Montgomery al 🙏 ❤️
H! Spent 5 years in H Row, and miss it more and more as each season passes. Also has been a decade now since I first made band. Keep making the alumni proud, and enjoy it now, as it flies by before you know it! Crazy to see silly tradition stick that started because we thought it was fun, including the swinging the horns to Three Camps on the Ramp right after running in before I wanna go back. Also, oof the worst part in Script, the TTR to right turn. Hated the double flash positions.
@@bigevilshark1958 hi, thank you for your interest! The tryout process is fairly extensive and because of that, it is pretty competitive for any of the sections in the marching band. It is a two-day process that consists of 1 music audition for a guest adjudicator, and then 4 marching auditions sessions adjudicated by squad leaders of each respective row. The music audition consists of a two octave chromatic scale, major scales, lip slur etude, multiple articulation etude, lyrical etude, technical etude, swing etude, a school song, and then a sight-reading excerpt. Each of the marching sessions are broken into 2 components; an "on-the-line" with one/two other candidates with drill given on the spot to test all of our marching fundamentals, and then a block band with every section in the band going over in-place movements, choruses of school songs down the field, multiple iterations of Hang On Sloopy, a custom tryout drill that everyone must learn at tryouts to a school song (this rotates every season), and then multiple iterations of our ramp entrance. Due to the exhaustive nature of tryouts, the marching band conducts pre-season training rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday of the summer called "summer sessions", as well as a singular two-day clinic that is a crash course of the whole summer. Candidates trying out for the first time are required to attend a two-day training session right before tryouts called "candidate days" that is a crash course through the whole tryout process. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask away!
Alternates probably. People who made the band but were not selected to be in pregame are sidelined. We had the same thing at OU when I was there. I think those alternates can also "Challenge" current members in the band for a spot in pregame, but I don't know for sure.
