I noticed that this creator has stopped making videos. No matter, this video is gold for the new orchid grower. It's my go to guide for identifying diseases in my orchids and treatment options. I hope that he is ok and that one day he'll return.
Thank you for sharing . I give this video a 10 rating. It was a superb video! . You named the diseases and treatment , for the plant that no other video has done.
Great Vedio. Excellent very professional demonstration. I am a new subscriber. So happy to find you. Some of my orchids were infected and I was searching a solution to treat my orchids. Great tips. Learnt a lot. Hope you will bring us more. I'm from Sydney Australia
My newly purchased phalaenopsis orchid has two oval black spots on one leaf. The leaves also appear to thin out where these spots appear. Based on this video, this is a sign of phyllosticta fungal infection. Thanks for this video.
Thanks!!!...great video. My orchids have some leaf spot and other problems. But I also have wild peacok causing damage. I am confused. Can I send you pictures for a diagnose?
Thanks for the information, very helpful. I noticed that the fungicides that you mentioned are rather common broad-spectrum fungicides used in agriculture and gardening. However, I think you got the names mixed up. Thiophanate methyl (Cleary 3336) is not the same as Epoxiconazole; the active ingredients are very different.
Thanks for the thorough run-through of orchid fungal problems. Thankfully, my leaf spot is only sunburn. A suggestion for a video - my orchids keep coming almost to flower and then fail just before the flower bud matures and blooms. I’d like to know what I’m doing wrong. Thanks again!
Thanks for all your helpful videos. We inherited two old orchid plants and now we know how to repot them. However we don’t know how much to water them and whether to know if they have enough water. Also it seems like you don’t water the leaves so maybe just spray at the bottom by the bulb? Thanks for any advice.
Good afternoon I live in Florida USA, I do have the black spots on some of my orchids, I was interested on buying the ODEON and ORIUS in Amazon but I can’t find it, can you write down for me the correct name of the product that I could buy in Amazon in USA please… I love your video, I will follow you from now on . Thanks 😊
OEON is Chlorothaonil 720g/ℓ as the active ingredient and ORIUS is Tebuconazole (triazole) 250 g/ℓ Sorry for the late reply 😳 it slipped past me . I hope it is not too late for your orchids
This is the best video I have seen online about this subject. I am a new subscriber. Could you do a video on orchid transplant shock? Can I use physan 20 for leaf spot? Thank you!
Thank you. It is a contact fungicide so if your plant is already badly infected you will need to use a synthetic fungicide. Use it more as a preventative measure during periods when fungus is most likely to appear.
@@thenaturecompany could you do a similar version of this video about leaf damage from scale, spider mites, mealybugs, etc..with close ups of the pattern of damage found on leaves? Sometimes you don't see the insects, but you know there is a problem. Thanks for your indepth info!
Thank you for all info but all to much for my brain. Can you suggest a good book that explains infected orchids as well as you. South africa. Can oleum be used.
@@gailnash7676 Sorry can not suggest any books which are South African specific . Oleum is used as broad spectrum insecticide with mild fungicidal properties and is effectively used in a preventive strategy .
I just went to a orchid society as a guest and the lady there had a large clump of orchids that was according to her infected with bacteria and she says there is no cure for the plant and to throw it away. I thought that sounded strange.
How do you use lime sulphur on orchids...time of year, what mixture rate etc? I thought it cannot be used on green plant matter so I use it only on my roses when the are completely dormant with no plants growing under them. I do have some problems that need to be attended to . Your video was most informative THANKS! Also ...do you know where I can purchase a virus test for orchids please.
you can use it as a liquid foliar spray , each one has its own mixing instructions , check the manufactures advice , remember not to spray on plants in the sun on hot days , use it as part of your integrated pest managment system . I believe you can get the virus test kits on line from America but they are pricey

ODEON 720 SC - BROAD SPECTRUM CONTACT FUNGICIDE : active ingredient : Chlorothaonil 720g/ℓ ..sorry I missed your comment 😳 is this the one you were looking for ?
it might take 2 or three treatments to kill fungi completely if an orchid is badly infected but preventative measures are an on going affair , depending on time off year and when your area is most prone to fungal blooms
Only showed text on screen ONE time for the chemical we should use! Also showing ALL the problems and then talking about "treatment"(sic) he should show PROBLEM and then tell us WHAT TO DO FOR THAT...
the wonderful thing about UA-cam is you can pause and replay the video as many times as you need . The screen can be too busy if the writing comes up over and over again . I will try to do each problem in a separate video thank you for you input we appreciate your advice
This is a great product but please remember to alternate your fungal treatments , long term use of a single product can breed resistant microorganisms . Also please remember some orchids are sensitive to it , Paphiopedilums roots can be damaged but very low quantities of its active ingredients .
So sorry we got a new lapel mic and filmed it twice but the amount of information is so much we couldn't do it again. But thanks for watching and we are working on the sound issues for future videos. Thanks for your input

one of the systemic fungicides would be the best place to start but remember to alternate your treatments between 3 different ones at least
