will this wash off? I have seen people using laminating sheets on top of vinyl then sublimating on that to prevent wash off. Any thoughts?
This is pretty cool! I bought a Hugh roll of white 651 for a project that didn’t work out and now I have a use for it. Thank you!!
This is awesome. I never knew you could transfer anything to clear vinyl without the ink smearing. I tried this yesterday with my heat press, and it worked like a charm first try. Yay.
Glad this tutorial was helpful, thank you for watching! 😊
I've really been enjoying all of your videos. This was perfectly timed for me since I just bought a whole bunch of raw wood ornaments from Amazon and I was going to laminate or poly spray, etc. but I wanted a white background. I already have Oracle 651 on hand and a Scan n Cut so I'm going to give this a try. Thanks so much for taking the time to create the video and share with us.
Thank you for your kind words and positive encouragement! I appreciate you stopping by to watch and also to comment! I love making videos and love even more to know that I am helping out my fellow crafters! The best of luck with your ornaments! ---Becky
Thank you for taking all of the guesswork out of this experiment!
I did this on clear 651 vinyl without adhesive spray. Came out great!
So happy it worked Sharon!
Thank you for sharing , I'll have to try this as well.
Hi and thank you for the video the one thing that I found most helpful was showing my wife the part about trying different ways which can slow you down and I keep trying to tell my wife she says it's my age. Anyway thank you I enjoy all of your info and appreciate your hard work. Got to go time for my Geratall
Glad it was helpful!
Ooo this is awesome! I have a regular printer but it’s a bit of an ink hog so now I can print all my labels and just sub them instead of buying 100 different types of labels a etc
Thank you so much going to give it a try
Thank you so much this answered my previous comment!!
Great video Becky, I’m also so happy when I find one of yours. When i printed my designs on sub paper for acrylic keychains I didn’t think about using the sticker paper. I need white to be on the back of one since i’m sublimating both sides.
Thanks for watching!
thank you for sharing I also tried this because print and cut have been not so easy. I do it like you cut the shape I want on my cricut then sublimate. And I do agree it comes out with a mate finish. What I then tried was printing directly on the sticker vynil using my sublimation printer then bake it on the heat press, It comes out glossy and perfect. I saw one guy here on youtube sharing that you must first laminate your sticker vynil that also work. I only laminate the backing to keep it straight and it slides through the sublimation ink smoothly without any ink smudges.
I layered clear glossy adhesive vinyl over the white and had pretty good results, brighter colors than on the white alone. Used Starcraft clear and white. 325 for 25 seconds.
Thank you Michelle for sharing! - Dawn
loved it thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good video thanks
So you pressed these on a wooden surface? Does it make a difference if you are on a pressing mat? Thank you for being so generous with your time and ideas!
This is awesome
Thank you for watching! If you have any questions, please let us know! We are here if you need us.
i use 330 onna 18secs it has brighter color. cold peel as well. with a lil pressure
Good to know! 😊
Thanks your the best
Thank you for watching Gliselda!
Love the video! My question is do you mirror the image on the sublimation paper and cut out your vinyl without mirroring the outline?
Flip your vinyl over, trace on the backside. When you press, it will be in the correct direction.
Thank you for sharing! I wondering how long the ink would look sharp in the sun. I'll need to test that!
Thank you for watching! 😊
If I were doing just text, I would need to mirror the text for the vinyl since you mirror sublimation, correct?
Does subbing on perm vinyl make the stickers waterproof?
Hi, what settings did you use on your sublimation printer for these stickers?
Thank you for this video! Could I use this for decal for cars?
Hey Diana, you can, but the sublimation ink fades in sunlight. Some crafters have talked about using an overlaminate to protect from UV rays, but I haven't tried it myself. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Is this the only way to make sublimation stickers? I really want to start sublimation (i just got a mug press for Christmas) but before i buy a sublimation printer i want to know the other stuff i can do / make 😊
Great vid! I want to use this for a car magnet. Should I apply the thermal laminate after my design is sublimated to the 651 or can I just use a uv spray to protect it from fading?
Good question! I think a UV spray would be easier, especially if it was also waterproof. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hello. I’m wanting to make them for a car. What would I use to Make Sure they don’t fade or get ruined from the weather?
Just watched your video. Great info. I have a lot of "cut off" and would like to apply to ceramic tile. After I apply the 651 to the tile, should I heat press to adhere the vinyl more securely.
Hey Marilyn! No, I don't think pressing the tile again would be necessary and it will reactivate your ink, so you may lose a little ink if repressing. Now what you can do is apply the vinyl blank, then line up your design and press it on the tile that way. Hope this helps! ---Becky
I tried this with the 350/25 method and it was impossible to get the paper not to stick to the vinyl. I figured out if you use a teflon sheet and do 325/25 it peeled just fine.
Thanks for sharing Courtney! ---Becky
I just did the same today and paper stuck as well. I was hoping someone had a better temp/ time. Thank you
@@cuervo1228able mine as well :-(
So I print out a pattern on my sub printer, and will be putting it on white Oracal 651, you press on the non-sticky side at 350 for 25 secs. and let it cool. Gotta try this! no "special" Oracal? Do you flip it horizontally?
Love your
I've been trying this, the finish is great but the laminate is easy to separate from the vinyl, is this common?
I feel like additional printer settings are required when attempting sublimation on vinyl. Combination of printer settings, heat press temperature and time go hand-in-hand.
Thank you for your response, why does my image show some spots that are shiny and some dull, also my image goes all the way through to the sticky part which is good if doing a window decal from the inside window but the other side is really dull, hope this makes sense thank you.
It could be that your dull areas have a small amount of paper residue, I would try to clean with a damp cloth if possible. Also, the design showing through is just a side effect, you won't be able to use it on the inside of a window and have it show the design reliably, you'll always need to apply the decal to the outside. Hope this helps! ---Becky
I hope this makes sense. If I am wanting to do a whole 8.5x11 sheet of stickers like this can I print off my sublimation paper with the silhouette print and cut registration marks, sub onto a full 8.5x11 sheet of 651 then send it through the silhouette? Can I add laminate on top to give it extra weatherproofing?
Hey Shelby, I have not tried sublimating something with registration marks first, then sending through the Silhouette. My instinct says that it may not work as well, but I'm just a skeptical person. I think it's worth a try and I'll definitely add it to my to-do list. Hope this helps! ---Becky
So, is this process like making clear cast decals? I'm trying to research how to make them (clear cast decals), but I'm not really . I don't want to finding much information. I do not want to make them to see, I just suck at waterslides, and thought this would be easier to apply to my tumblers. Especially at the full wrap waterslides. Thanks!!
My sublimation paper is stuck to my vinyl admit sublimated all the way through to the sticky side of my vinyl, any ideas as to why?
Helloooo! Im sorry, I have a few questions...
Can you sublimate on Glitter Permanent Vinyl?
I was wondering if you have tried putting these on cups, mugs or tumblers? And if you have, how well did they hold up after washing? I've have been thinking this would be a good way to add designs to my plastic color changing cups & possibly be a good way to make full wraps to save my failed sublimation tumblers.
Yes you can sublimate on glitter vinyl! I recommend hand washing and not putting them in the dishwasher. - Brittany
Hi! What is your advice on sublimation on permanent vinyl for a car decal?
Oracle has a transparent vinyl ORAGUARD you can place over the finished decal.
Is there a way ariund using the adhesive? Like maybe staples or something?
You spray the tackit directly to the sub print?
great video, would these be considered waterproof and how has the ink lasted on these stickers?
yes they would and the ink should last
How did you get Crichton to cut the stickers
Can you print straight into the vinyl?
With a laser printer or something?
very nice video. I am having difficulties with the ink pushing through to the other side of the vinyl. my top looks faded and poor quality... the bottom or the adhesive side looks great. Am I heating too long? thank you in advance.
It sounds like you may have too much heat or being pressed too long.
Hi, what kind of paper do you use for sublimation on the oracal?
Thank you
Hey Marisel, I just used the same sub paper I normally use, and I usually buy A-Sub paper from Amazon (except I have been experimenting with new aka less expensive brands lately). Hope this helps! ---Becky
Can you use the 651 when subbed on a plastic cup? without it peeling off?
Hey Ariadne, do you mean can you apply this decal to a plastic cup (yes)? Or can you sublimate on a plastic cup (no, unless it's designed specifically for sublimation)? Let me know if you are asking a different question, I'm happy to help! ---Becky
What temp did you press them at?
Do you think any other brand would work? Like starcraft, vivid, or even cricut brand?
Great question Devon! I feel like Starcraft would, I haven't personally used Vivid and I'm not sure about Cricut since it has a matte finish, which makes me think it's not the same composition as the Oracal 651. Hope this helps! ---Becky
I tried on clear this weekend, the middle didn't transfer as good as everything else. I am using a heat press by Geo Knight. Maybe pressure wasn't good enough?
I was also doing a big 13x19" area of my vinyl. I have a roll of clear.
My transfer paper is sticking to the vinyl? Using easy press ?
Hi Becky! Can you sublimate on white HTV?
You can sublimate on White Glitter HTV and EasySubli. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Did you make the print on your T-shirt?
Is this just regular white oracle 651? i have seen people use clear 651 as well, I would love to try it but would hate to damage my heat press by melting vinyl or something. i feel like sublimating on oracle651 would also be more weather resistant and what not than a regular print and cut. print and cut seems to always have a more paper feeling. Do you have an update as to how they lasted in weather or anything? Thanks!!!
Hey Caroline, this is regular Oracal 651, and as long as you cover it with teflon your heat press should be protected. It is more weather resistant as it won't wash off, but it will fade with exposure to sunlight. Some crafters talk about using an overlaminate to protect it further, but I haven't tried yet. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Can I use transfer tape when it is finished or will it ruin the ink?
You should be safe to use the transfer tape, the ink is bonded with the adhesive vinyl. Great question! ---Becky
Can I sublimate on plain white htv?
❤
my oracle meted to my sublimation paper at those temperatures
Oh no! Could you tell us a little more about the press you are using? It sounds like it may be pressure or time related.
Are they go for outdoor car decal?
Life span?
Ink fade?
Hey Donna, sublimation ink is vulnerable to UV rays and fading. I would definitely apply an overlaminate but with sun exposure, I would expect fading over time. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Do you have to use the adhesive spray for it to sublimate on permanant vinyl? Also, do you use the adhesive spray when sublimating other substrates?
I use the adhesive spray for most of my sublimation projects to help with alignment and prevent ghosting. It's not required though. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Does the adhesive spray not leave a sticky residue on your products when sublimating?
Ok, I made me a decal but it very Mattie and I don’t know if it’s because the vinyl melted with design but I’m worried the ink will come off once it rains. Has anyone had any luck with this method??
Hi, can you use this on clear phone case or silicone phone case?
Great question! It should adhere to any smooth, nonporous surface, but definitely not to silicone. Hope this helps! ---Becky
First try came out like a charm. Same press, same sub paper, same heat settings, but now the vinyl sticks to the sublimation paper. I was using 325° for 25, then went to 320° for 20, and it’s still sticking. Any insights as to what else to try? I am stumped.
To be honest, I think it just happens, I don't know that there is a magic way to help it not stick. I just try to gently pry the paper away from the vinyl. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Maybe you could dampen the back of the paper and peel it off like when you sublimate on a canvas. The paper stuck so bad to the canvas but came off great after I wet it.
Same problem. I tryed many other parameters, but all the same. Now I add the sticker with subpaper, and then peel of the paper wet. Not the best way, but no other reason.
What temperature, pressure, and time did you use to sublimate on the 651? Thank you
Hey Edith, I used 350 degrees for 20-25 seconds, medium pressure. Hope this helps! ---Becky
What temperature & time would I use for a regular heat press? I have a Star craft heat press..Thank you
Tried on 651-091 GOLD and was a failure. Was able to achieve some sublimation transfer using only black but no where close to success.
How did you make the shape for the vinyl?
You'll want to create and offset. - Brittany
Can you use this as a car decal. Do you need to put protective coating
You could, however it may fade over time due to the UV rays from the sun. - Brittany
What paper and ink do you use ? I tried it with cosmo ink and A-sub 125 paper and it’s not Turning out right. The color is not very bright/looks very faded and paper residue is left on the vinyl. Tried this in both glossy and matte oracal 651. Please help. Thanks .
Hey Lynae, I use A-Sub paper also and use InkXPro ink (probably very similar to Cosmos Ink). It may be a difference in the pressure. I would retry at different pressure levels and the paper residue can be washed off. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Love the video!! Thanks for sharing with us. I do have a question for you or whoever! Will the ink wash away by chance, like if I were to put it on a cup to be handwashed??
The ink stays for a very long time without fading
Can you please give me info on the design on your shirt? It's gorgeous and I'd love to have that design
Hi there! The design can be found here: designbundles.net/taylor-george-designs/916806-christmas-sticker-bundle-8-pack-printable-cuttable - Dawn 😆
@@DesignBundles Thank you but I was asking about the design on your T shirt in the video.
Everytime I do your recommendation my image comes out looking awful. What would be causiing the image to have white spots everywhere?
Hey Justin, sorry you are having problems. Have you tried cleaning the vinyl with a damp cloth after? Sometimes it will leave paper residue on the vinyl. Hope this helps! ---Becky
What type of paper did you used to print your sublimation image on?
This is the sublimation paper she used: www.amazon.com/Sublimation-Paper-S-RACE-Vivid-Sheets/dp/B07VWKBJY5 -Brittany
Can you use that sublimated vinyl on shirts now?
Hey Victoria! Not this vinyl, it is for adhesive, but you can use the same process on Siser EasySubli and Glitter HTV. Hope this helps! ---Becky

ua-cam.com/video/IMHgYAR0Y5E/v-deo.html
Do you think a shot of PAM might retain the gloss? Do they even make PAM anymore? 🤔
how well do these decals hold up to weather
There will be some fading over time. - Brittany
does it hae to be Oracal Vinyl? I only have Cricut vinyl
Can you use the sublimated oracal 651 as a car window decal/sticker?
Hey Daisy, you sure can but the sublimation ink will fade with UV exposure, so you'll want an overlaminate sheet for a UV protective layer. And if you're going to layer like that, you could technically just use printable vinyl and it would be easier LOL. Hope this helps! ---Becky
@@DesignBundles thank you for the prompt response, what brand of printable vinyl do you recommend?
Can a regular heat press do the job or is an easy press a must?
You could definitely use a regular heat press!
Thank you. Christmas one is definitely the best, but all are great. I do hate the Merry Christmas font though…
Is this able to be put on an exterior window or car window as a decal?
You can, however you will want to make sure to use UV sublimation ink to help prevent fading.
Can you use parchment paper instead of butcher paper? And does it fade quick if you put the decal on a car window.
Hi Wanda! Thank you for watching today! You can use parchment paper if that is what you have, however, butcher paper does hold up to the high heat temp better than parchment paper. The decal coloring may fade if you live in a place where there is high heat or other extreme weather, but will hold up well!
@@DesignBundles Thank you.
What would be the advantage of sublimating over simply passing it through a laserjet? (using HP 254 with zero issues)
Hey, great question! Not a whole lot to be honest. This is more for crafters who may not have a regular printer (rare) or those who want a waterproof option without extra materials. Or if they simply don't have printable vinyl (only have regular vinyl). I also feel like this is thinner than printable vinyl, which can be a little thick with the laminate sheet on top. We also used a similar process to sublimate on transparent adhesive vinyl and that was gorgeous, but still, similar results could be achieved with printable clear sticker paper, it just wouldn't be waterproof. Hope this helps to clarify and super great question! ---Becky
Thank you for sharing. I was actually looking for a permanent way to make car stickers that will last for a good while. I think I’ll try this without having to do the whole layering. Anyone else have any other ideas. 😊
@@DesignBundles I would love to see the sub on transparent vinyl! Do you have a video of that? Same time and temp?
@@denisearmstrong867 I would like to see this too. As you need white for the colours to take I am not sure I get how the clear will work. Or is it only for colours that don't include white? @designbundles - Please reply x
I wonder how these would hold up in the sun and rain as a car decal? Have you tried it on a car?
I submliate using oracal 651 pressed onto glass but have been seeing the pictures fade after some time . Have you experienced this .
Yes, it will fade over time. - Brittany
Why is the design brighter on the sticky side? How do I get it brighter on other side
Hey Dawn, the ink will usually fully permeate the vinyl. If your colors are dull on the top, you may need to clean with a damp cloth to remove any paper residue. Hope this helps! ---Becky
How would I create the sticker outline for the 651 ?
What program are you using?
does it have to be Oracle 651? I have a few rolls of "VIVID" permanent vinyl..its worthless for doing fine details but would be great if I could subliminate and cut shapes out. I hate having to buy more vinyl if I don't have to
As long as it is a light color, the settings may also be slightly different! 😊
Would the ink be permanent? Like could you do this for a bumper sticker?
It will fade over time. - Brittany
What type of paper are you using? My sublimation paper sticks bad to the vinyl. Wonder if I should use regular printer paper?
Hey Amilea, I think the paper sticking is going to be the case regardless of paper, BUT if you want to try some of the TexPrint-R, I've heard crafters recommend that for less sticking (like for acrylic). Hope this helps! ---Becky
Is there a way to sublimate on clear HTV ?
Yes! You can sublimate on clear, matte, or even holographic HTV! - Dawn
I know 651 can be used for car decals if I sublimated it would it hold up to the weather?
Hey Bobbi, it will hold up in the weather but sublimation ink isn't UV resistant so it would fade. You could laminate it with a UV resistant transparent film. Hope this helps! ---Becky
@@DesignBundles how do you go about laminating it to still keep the backing sticky?
Will it hold up on a vehicle or do you have to put a clear laminate (ie 651 clear) over the top of it?
Hey Heather, I have not done extensive testing on these sublimation decals, but the ink shouldn't need additional protection. However, I could see it fading from the UV exposure, which I haven't had happen to me, but I have heard about on door mats and the like. I guess it couldn't hurt, but I do think it would be difficult to line up. Hope this helps! ---Becky
You have to laminate, id use oracal 215
@@michaelmagnani3463 have you tested ypurs outside ? I have UV ink but want to make sure to use laminate over or not on permanent vinyl
Okay, silly question but did you stick your 651 to some type of sheet prior to pressing. What is the blue paper? Love your instructions BTW you do great videos ❤️
Hey Nacey, the blue is just the color of the paper backing that the vinyl comes on. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Is there any concern about applying heat to adhesive vinyl, since it's not really designed to be used in this manner? I've always been told that adhesive vinyl is toxic when heated and thought this was at least partially why it wasn't considered microwave safe.
Hi Christi! This isn't heated long enough to worry but we will look more into this.- Dawn
What kind of adhesive spray do u use
Hey Nesha, I use Krylon repositionable spray. Hope this helps! ---Becky
What type of ink and printer did you use?
Hey Ashley! I use an Epson WF-7710 and InkXPro Ink from Amazon. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Would this be water proof and permanent for car decal??
Hi there! No, it wouldn't be waterproof unless it had a clear laminate over it- Dawn
No idea what happened--I thought I was doing this the same way as in the video--but 1) The Oracal 651 melted! (385 for 25) and 2) the sublimated image was very light on top--but beautifully sublimated on the sticky side! Totally at a loss here; guess this particular method is not for me.
The temp for sublimating onto the 651 is 350 not 385, that may be why your vinyl melted.
