I have this kit and I have had it for over a year now. I built a custom background for it and made it into a vivarium. (No fish or water in the bottom, just a drainage layer and the coco substrate plus an Josh’s frogs vivarium soil.) The tank itself works perfectly for my crested gecko and all the plants. I wouldn’t put anything smaller than a sub adult crested gecko however because of the door issue he mentioned. There is a small gap at the bottom that something small could escape from or that something strong could push out of. My crestie never messes with it though. I don’t use much of what came with the tank. Like he said the food ledge is pretty crappy and I find doesn’t stay up long with spraying so I switched it with the Pangea ledge. The vine is ok, I use it in another terrarium that doesn’t have live plants. But just for the terrarium itself the price is a steal. Like he said the same size from the other brands with nothing included is over $200. And make sure to check around Christmas time because I got mine for $139 on sale. A ridiculously amazing price. 😊
Hey so do you think I could use this tank for a per minute set up? I have noticed my crestie gets stressed in a huge encloser I tried a 55 gal and he was just stressed all the time and wouldn’t eat I down sized him and he did a lot better. So do you think I could use this as a permanent set up?
I have this encloser but I don’t use the UVB because it’s not that great of quality I did use it but switched, other than that and the fact that the food dish isn’t that good I rly like the encloser.

I learn so much from your videos..... after watching this one I am confident I picked the right right size. The vine problem could be fixed by ordering a set of vine, deco on amazon, their sets come with extra suctions cups. This set is a starter kit, yes it is going to need more but looks like overall a decent set. (I wish i had known about it to start mine)
I got the same one but I agree (the food dish was like styrofoam and it easily fell apart). Other than that, it works really well (also for the one I bought suction cups came with the vines) and thank you for the helpful review ^^

I love that you did this review. I have thrive tanks for my two bearded dragons, leopard gecko, and my (soon to get crested gecko). I love the starter kits they come with and they contain more than the other ones normally do. I'm planning on getting a crested gecko on Sunday and went to get the tank/decoration so I could get it set up ahead of time. The one I got even has the built in background that I can take out if I want or the gecko doesn't yes it, and the front opening forts make is so much easier. Most of the thrive product are cheaper and more worth the money.
one thing tho if you have watched the Leperd gecko video on thrive then you will see the trash but not going to lie I'm getting this for mine because of the enclosure it's great

This is great because they put more into the hardware vs. decor. I plan to make a bioactive enclosure when my crestie grows up and the price is amazing and it includes heating elements. I could seal in the feeding ledge with some crestie-safe sealant.

I was looking for a tank cause I wanted to get a crestie, I got one of these kits for $99! I don't use the uvb, but I do use the heat bulb because I live in a basement in Wisconsin. I don't like the food ledge and have another one coming. I attached the background and might make a custom one later. I put the cocofiber at the bottom w sphagnum on top for humidity. I used the top hole to help lead a digital thermometer/hydrometer. I'm very happy with it
I use Thrive products, and find them to be quality products, at a good value. Their door latches on their other enclosures are better than the other companies in my opinion.

I have this enclosure and the vine does have a metal wire inside of it, it’s like a solder wire, they put it further in the vine so there isn’t metal wires sticking out of the ends. I can promise you there is a wire, I cut the vine so it would fit better in the way I wanted and I wrapped the metal in the top mesh so it holds, he doesn’t mess with the metal but it does have metal and is bendable!

Interesting. Looks like a product that one would need to try before coming to a conclusion. That door locking issue is the key one for me. Everything else looks a bit flimsy to be honest. Look at the tank kit from Zilla. The one I got was HORRIBLE. The lid alone is an issue because it is so hard to put on and take off. There are other issues but I'll leave it a suprise
Would like to see a look back at this kid/how you set yours up if you changed or added anything. I also find it interesting that you mention petsmart and their products alot but stopped selling your geckos to petsmart.
@@caedensteele581 I really like it to. My door squeeked but while cleaning (and the gecko was out) I sprayed wd-40 on the hinges and let it air out. And it stopped squeeking. I have a fogger in mine but theere is a gap big enough for the gecko to escape. So i put duct tape around it to stop that.

Oh god when I saw it said it was recommended for chameleons I was like no no no no never put a chameleon in a glass terrarium and that UVB bulb is terrible.
Minus the kit items. Do you recommend this terrarium over Exo Terra? One of the doors shattered and looking to find a terrarium replacement for my Gecko. Had him for 5 year's
You can buy a door replacement. I had to do that for one of my exo terras. It ended up being about $20 with shipping. Much cheaper than a new terrarium.
PetSmart doesn’t sell replacement cups. Thrive doesn’t make any empty crested cups and it’s maddening. Always pick some up when I go to expos or at our local reptile shop

I found one of these ( just the tank and the lights ) on Facebook marketplace after someone kept a baby chameleon in it and realized it wasn't right for just $70. They have been going down every day so I am asking if they will accept $50 for it! I am planning on keeping two dart frogs in the bottom and a few morning geckos in the more arboreal part.

Nice, I got mine for $25. Its new because the dealer said it was to small for his iguana and it's been in storage. It was clean and perfect! Such a steal. Gonna be using it for white tree frogs :))
It's never recommended to cohab unless you are mating them. If you are mating them you shouldn't keep them in all the time, as their mating behavior can be both stressful and put their lives at risk. They are very solitary animals. If you see them next to eachother, they arnt cuddling or enjoying eachothers company. They are competing for space. There is so much misinformation in this hobby and it is getting better and better in its husbandry. I'm not trying to gaitkeep but at this point it is considered very outdated to cohab. I am very passionate about this hobby and crested geckos. Reptiles don't deserve the bare minimum of space or territory.

I really don't care for starter kits honestly; as far as starter kits go this one doesn't look too bad tho. The lack of thermostat in every starter kit I've ever seen is so frustrating 😑
Sad thing about kits is that u need to buy way more things separately to have a proper setup and a lot that they come with come with the worse types of stuff
Good budget option but... support your local pet store :/ PetSmart doesn’t need the money, struggling pet stores during this pandemic need that money... I understand it is pricier, but most likely local pet stores aren’t a chain and depend on our money way more than PetSmart or Petco....
Buying one kit from Petsmart isn't going to kill off every local store. Some people can only afford or access chain stores. Its just how it is sometimes.

I have this kit and I have had it for over a year now. I built a custom background for it and made it into a vivarium. (No fish or water in the bottom, just a drainage layer and the coco substrate plus an Josh’s frogs vivarium soil.) The tank itself works perfectly for my crested gecko and all the plants. I wouldn’t put anything smaller than a sub adult crested gecko however because of the door issue he mentioned. There is a small gap at the bottom that something small could escape from or that something strong could push out of. My crestie never messes with it though. I don’t use much of what came with the tank. Like he said the food ledge is pretty crappy and I find doesn’t stay up long with spraying so I switched it with the Pangea ledge. The vine is ok, I use it in another terrarium that doesn’t have live plants. But just for the terrarium itself the price is a steal. Like he said the same size from the other brands with nothing included is over $200. And make sure to check around Christmas time because I got mine for $139 on sale. A ridiculously amazing price. 😊
Did u switch out the day heat lamp for a night linfrsred amp? I feel like that’s more practical because it doesn’t give off the same bright light
Hey so do you think I could use this tank for a per minute set up? I have noticed my crestie gets stressed in a huge encloser I tried a 55 gal and he was just stressed all the time and wouldn’t eat I down sized him and he did a lot better. So do you think I could use this as a permanent set up?

The vine problem could be fixed by ordering a set of vine, deco on amazon, their sets come with extra suctions cups. This set is a starter kit, yes it is going to need more but looks like overall a decent set. (I wish i had known about it to start mine)

I got the same one but I agree (the food dish was like styrofoam and it easily fell apart). Other than that, it works really well (also for the one I bought suction cups came with the vines) and thank you for the helpful review ^^

i got the thrive half-moon tank wioth the rock background. its amazing, the geckos love climbing on it, thrive is GREAT all their stuff is amazing well-desgined
I love that you did this review. I have thrive tanks for my two bearded dragons, leopard gecko, and my (soon to get crested gecko). I love the starter kits they come with and they contain more than the other ones normally do. I'm planning on getting a crested gecko on Sunday and went to get the tank/decoration so I could get it set up ahead of time. The one I got even has the built in background that I can take out if I want or the gecko doesn't yes it, and the front opening forts make is so much easier. Most of the thrive product are cheaper and more worth the money.
one thing tho if you have watched the Leperd gecko video on thrive then you will see the trash but not going to lie I'm getting this for mine because of the enclosure it's great

This is great because they put more into the hardware vs. decor. I plan to make a bioactive enclosure when my crestie grows up and the price is amazing and it includes heating elements. I could seal in the feeding ledge with some crestie-safe sealant.

I was looking for a tank cause I wanted to get a crestie, I got one of these kits for $99! I don't use the uvb, but I do use the heat bulb because I live in a basement in Wisconsin. I don't like the food ledge and have another one coming. I attached the background and might make a custom one later. I put the cocofiber at the bottom w sphagnum on top for humidity. I used the top hole to help lead a digital thermometer/hydrometer. I'm very happy with it

I have this enclosure and the vine does have a metal wire inside of it, it’s like a solder wire, they put it further in the vine so there isn’t metal wires sticking out of the ends. I can promise you there is a wire, I cut the vine so it would fit better in the way I wanted and I wrapped the metal in the top mesh so it holds, he doesn’t mess with the metal but it does have metal and is bendable!

Interesting. Looks like a product that one would need to try before coming to a conclusion. That door locking issue is the key one for me. Everything else looks a bit flimsy to be honest. Look at the tank kit from Zilla. The one I got was HORRIBLE. The lid alone is an issue because it is so hard to put on and take off. There are other issues but I'll leave it a suprise

@@caedensteele581 I really like it to. My door squeeked but while cleaning (and the gecko was out) I sprayed wd-40 on the hinges and let it air out. And it stopped squeeking. I have a fogger in mine but theere is a gap big enough for the gecko to escape. So i put duct tape around it to stop that.

I would yes. For the price I think its a great alternative.
You can buy a door replacement. I had to do that for one of my exo terras. It ended up being about $20 with shipping. Much cheaper than a new terrarium.

PetSmart doesn’t sell replacement cups. Thrive doesn’t make any empty crested cups and it’s maddening. Always pick some up when I go to expos or at our local reptile shop

Soooo I got the tank and I was setting it up... then I couldn’t figure out how to put on the vine.... after watching UGHHHH everything about this seemed great until I watched this and tried putting it together
I got this kit and my glass door is kinda squeaky but my vine has metal in it so you just got a bad one
I just got this cage there's pegs on the screen to attach the vine to the top
The main reason I got it was because it came with the lights and I plan on doing a bioactive build with it

I found one of these ( just the tank and the lights ) on Facebook marketplace after someone kept a baby chameleon in it and realized it wasn't right for just $70. They have been going down every day so I am asking if they will accept $50 for it! I am planning on keeping two dart frogs in the bottom and a few morning geckos in the more arboreal part.
Don't keep different species of any kind with a crested , especially frogs due to toxins that cone off the skin

It's never recommended to cohab unless you are mating them. If you are mating them you shouldn't keep them in all the time, as their mating behavior can be both stressful and put their lives at risk. They are very solitary animals. If you see them next to eachother, they arnt cuddling or enjoying eachothers company. They are competing for space. There is so much misinformation in this hobby and it is getting better and better in its husbandry. I'm not trying to gaitkeep but at this point it is considered very outdated to cohab. I am very passionate about this hobby and crested geckos. Reptiles don't deserve the bare minimum of space or territory.
Does the tank feel overall cheap? Heavily considering this and swapping out some of the cheap accessories.
