    As confirmed by other people, The Bio Dude doesn't sell tanks with the kits. But as someone who has met the creator in real life and uses his products for my blue tongue skink, I absolutely recommend them. A lot of the price of that kit comes from the special grow light, so unless you're looking at a serious planted enclosure (like for a crested or leachie) you'd be able to get things cheaper by just buying them individually, rather than as a kit. My marbled pothos grows fine with the Arcadia UVB, and you don't necessarily have to add plants to the setup if you don't want to. It is a big investment, but for me it would have been a lot more expensive to change the substrate in a tank that size every month, so I feel like it's worth it in the long run. Anyway, I hope that clears some things up for anyone that was confused. The Bio Dude also has his own UA-cam channel, which you can check out for more info if you're curious.

    Speaking from personal experience, if you are getting a kit or something from a petco or petsmart, DO NOT listen to the workers' comments on getting a starter kit. I bought one, but I only used 2-3 of the items that were included in the kit of like 8 or so items... Save yourself money and just buy the bits and bobs separately unless you plan on perhaps having multiple different reptiles where the kit's parts can go to different lizards or snakes, etc.

    The Zilla tropical kit is on sale for $50 at my local Petco and I’ve bought 3 so far! Every time I go it’s still on sale so I pick one up lol. The light is WAY too hot (temp gun reads at over 90 towards the top of the tank) and it doesn’t come with much otherwise but I’ll pay $50 for a front opening tank!

    • @leopardgeckotalk

      Yeah definitely not bad for the price, and will be handy for babies and juveniles. Yeah I did wonder about those lamps, I thought they may get too hot.

    5:19 the only modification I would make is not use the carpet.
    I like to think of this kit as temporary housing, so if you get this kit expect to upgrade sooner or later.
    Once the gecko grows out of that terrarium, the setup can be used to grow another baby crested gecko to eventually repeat the process of upgrading.

    Hi, what do you do for a moist hide, at the minute I have a hide with moss wrapped in kitchen role to stop him eating the moss but watching your video's, which are great by the way, you don't seem to have anything like that. I'm just switching to Arcadia Arid mix, and got some slate and rocks to build up his space a bit more, so do I actually need a moist hide or will making a shelter and keeping the earth moist be enough? I don't use a heat mat , just a basking lamp on a thermostat and uvb light on a timer. Many thanks x

    Great very influential video, the 12” x 12” x18” size tanks could be useful for a mourning gecko or eurydactylode ( adult) vivarium ,add the Biodudes terra fauna kit for a 12” x 12” x18” for the eurydactylode or the terra flora kit for the mourning gecko -(since they require more humidity, ) and you got a excellent vivarium .

      Under the enclosure if it’s glass or plastic, inside if it’s wooden. Connect it to a thermostat (I power is a good cheap one on Amazon) and elevate the tank for air flow so there’s a gap between the mat and the surface underneath it. Get a digital thermometer as well.

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 5 років тому

      20 gallon long minimum for an adult but bigger is better. For heat: a heat mat connected to a thermostat and measured by a digital thermometer, set to about 90. The heat mat should span 1/3-1/2 of the tank floor area. It goes underneath. Elevate the tank for air flow. It can be beneficial to have a ceramic heat emitter for them to bask under but that isn’t completely necessary. Do loads of research before getting one. The reptile Amino on the app Amino is a great place to go for more info. Feel free to ask me any questions :)

      It’s not good. The minimum for an adult crested gecko is an 18x18x24 enclosure. Carpet is horrible for them. It harbours bacteria and doesn’t hold humidity at all. Paper towel is good for quarantine for the first six weeks. Eco earth or a bioactive substrate works well after. You need a digital thermometer/hygrometer (zoo med has a good digital combo). You need way more plants as well.

Reptisoil, organic top soil, or a bioactive substrate is good over six months. You need a digital thermometer and a thermostat for the heat mat. You also need at least two more hides.

    As others have mentioned, BioDude's kit does NOT include the tank. It is simply the amount of substrate he recommends for the surface area of each tank listed.

    If you put a bowl with calcium inside of terrarium with gecko, do I still powder food for him?

    • @tabihawley6624
      @tabihawley6624 5 років тому

      Yes. The bowl of calcium is simply an additional source, in case the gecko feels the need to have more calcium than their dusted feeders are providing. Also, not all geckos will actually use the calcium dish, so dusting is a must.

      Dust with calcium every other feeding. Don’t offer a dish.

    Hello i recently bought a deep heat projector and was wondering if i could screw it into my zoo med deep dome lamp fixture? I screwed it in the day i got it. Had it plugged into thermostat at 90 degrees and it started to have almost a burning smell. Is there something im doing wrong/ do i need a new lamp holder and if so which one?? Any replies would greatly help i want my gecko to be more active.

    Exo terra does make several thermostats so I wonder why they don't include it... Maybe coz it's about $50 bucks Canadian! (I use the exo terra thermostats and recently had to buy a new one for my new leopard gecko)

      😭 wish I'd asked before i stuck the heat mat on there already. Is that rule no matter what kind of tank it is?? I justed used a regular open top tank like you would use for an aquarium. I was afraid it might cause the glass to shatter and hurt my new baby

    I got a starter kit from P@H and it was absolute trash. The heat mat barely worked, the thermostat was the cheapest piece of plastic I have ever come across and the thermometer was always a few degrees off so it was impossible to glance at the enclosure and know what temp it was at. I paid a lot of money for it and not even a year later have replaced every single piece of equipment it came with including the tank. Seriously y'all, save your time & invest in things you KNOW will work and are good quality.
