The figure itself looks amazing but a shame about the spider legs. I've been hearing a lot of reports on breakage just because of how thin they are. I do agree that making them so accurately thin worked against it.

I got the August preorder but it looks like I'm also gonna have to pick up some revoltech joints, too. I'm thinking they should've gone with metal parts for joints that tiny.
liquitex matte varnish is pretty good for tightening up loose joints in my experience. Better than floor shine, cleans up with water, can be brushed into the joint easily. available on amazon. Also, these kind of reviews are why I back you on Patreon. I know it's only $1 a month but your reviews are highly entertaining and very valuable. This Spider-Man was a bit of a swing and a miss by Mafex and that's really good to know. Thanks for taking one for the team!
Awesome review Robo! I saw a customizer switch out the back legs with the Marvel Select Iron Spider legs and they looked pretty good too! Just an idea thrown out there!
I’m not gonna risk 90 bucks just to have the legs (waldos?) break. Those are to main reason I wanted to get it. I think I’m gonna pass and wait for the marvel legends one coming with the legs.
That's the same reason I wanted to get an iron spider. I was super siked when I heard they were including the suit because I'm in love with the whole leg gimmick. It's honestly a shame this wasn't able to make them work

Finally got mine, I made sure I heat up the legs first, then took em out from the back piece, instead of making the hole bigger, I just sand the nubs that attached to the back. They are very tight so i didn’t worry about sanding more than I needed. 😃
Sean Wallace they doin great right, so the“mushroom” tip that attaches to the back part, I sanded the sides that pretty much makes them look like a mushroom which I had to take out with extreme care after heating. I was worried the the legs would collapse in its own weight after sanding the mushroom nubs but they are so light that I didn’t care sanding more than I needed so they’re are technically loose but don’t fall off that easy

And here we thought the days of Mafex's QC hell were behind us... Then again, everyone seems to have this problem, so I guess it's just inherently screwed up by design. It's not really a deal-breaker to me, though. I know what I'm getting myself into when I'm buying a Mafex product.
You could try putting the marvel select iron spider legs on this one, so at the least they’ll be less fragile and long enough to actually have him stand up all 4 legs. Can’t wait for mine 😎
I've seen it mentioned several times, I may have to give the Select a shot. As is, I replaced all four ball joints with Revo joints, that'll do just fine for the time being .
Medicom's realistic faces always seem a little more generic. Like this is a pretty good Peter Parker, but not a great Tom Holland. Great review as always!

Well. Never was I thankful for a heatwave in my country, but here I am. Every joint moved nice, tight and without any breakage. Thank the god of toys for climate change, as it avoided any problem with my IW spidey.

After an eternity ...I've been busting my ass 1 year pre order this thing Edit: if that is to tight, my experience with those tiny and tight joints i just heat up a bit and and a little lubricant (motorcycle lubricant) mixed with cooking oil and tear drop em, if its still to tight ad a tiny bit (your own risk ) a thiner so eats up the plastic so it becomes a little loose , if you want to combine both first the thinner then the lubricant, works for me everytime
The reason the Mafex packaging feels cheap is that (at least for the movie figures) they just use the generic marketing/product design as every other cheap product from the same movie. This package looks the same as those basic Infinity War Hasbro figures and like an infinity war blanket or something idk
Now that I've seen your review of this figure, I'm having second thoughts of buying this. So maybe I might buy it or go cheap and buy the new ML with Waldos.
I'm pretty sure the problem with the waldos is that they painted the joints. this is a common problem for people that build model kits. when a peg is meant to go into a hole it's usually gotta be tight to stay in. but if you add paint to that peg then it's gonna super tight and likely break.
Hard to tell, since I don't know if it will happen over time until that time actually passes. Probably depends on the environment too. But I haven't noticed any fading.
I wanted to get this for so many reasons, Tom Holland head, beautiful looking waldos, metallic look. But I saw too many people posting pictures of their waldos not staying in place, breaking etc. I am terrified to get it now

If you find a good way to repair them, could you post a how-to video? There are a lot of people who have broken these. They've broken in every review I've seen. Mine is still in the mail, but I'm already pretty sure I'm going to have to repair them and I have no experience with action figure modding/ repair. I think there are a lot of people in this same boat.
I’d try getting that Waldo replaced from Medicom. Don’t know how it works overseas but here in Japan it’s a simple email with photos showing them the issue and they cover the shipping and everything. Good luck! Also don’t feel too bad SHF also has issues with that stuff. It’s the design.
I finally got mine today but a lot of stuff is wrong with it paint,arm falling off, neck broke, spider legs broke, I kinda expected the spider legs would break
Enjoyed the review but to be fair to MAFEX (and every other brand that attempts those legs at this scale) I think they're doing the best they can. It's such a tiny joint and set of arms. I'm excited to see how MAFEX evolve with the QC issues and figure improvements.

I'm wondering if they'll release a 1.5 or a 2.0 in another year - see what happens in Far From Home, but if he's got the iron spider suit for any amount of time before the stealth version, I suspect we'll see another iteration

I think MAFEX made the arms longer on purpose so that you can make those crouching stances easier

I have learn with most figures to use a blow dryer where the joints are to be able to pop the paint around the joints easier to move.
I've seen people changing the waldos from mafex to the marvel select ones it looks good
I don't buy much Marvel Select. I've already replaced the joints on the back with Revo joints, gotta try to track down a better color though.

Yeah, I may try painting, or tracking down some blue ones. I also want to switch to single joints instead of double, make them less conspicuous.

You might wanna use the hot water trick to soften those tight joints
