    the comedy here is because for polish person this is completly normal when dealing with administration, they will not help you if they can refuse you. this is perfectly depicted in comedy sketch: "Swiat wedlug kiepskich - biurokracja"

      Polish administration finally dropped influences from Russian one - you don't need to give any "gifts" to have your cases being worked on - but ot kept influences from Austrian one. At that is blindly following letter of the rules, whole almost ignoring the spirit of them.

    2:05 I saw that confusion :D Polish is a very gendered language (in a similar way English calls ship a "she"), so "Mławianin" and "Mławianka" can be translated to a "male / female citizen of Mława" respectively.

  • @motricia-w5f
    @motricia-w5f Рік тому +55

    KMN is known for its wordplay, sometimes you need to be fluent in Polish to comprehend the exact meaning of the given situation. English translation does not always cover it.

  • @ZwiekszoneRyzyko

    The "robe" joke is hard to translate. He couldn't find the word to describe his sweater so he used the archaic Polish word "kontusz" which means a piece of clothing worn by 16th century male nobility. This is why they asked him if he has a horse nearby. "Robe" doesn't have the same implication in English I think, so it's hard to get the joke being about old historical garb.

    • @motricia-w5f
      @motricia-w5f Рік тому

      In this case, using the word kontush would depict it in a proper way. At least this is what google image confirms when typing kontush in google search engine

    I had exactly the same situation not that long ago in England. I was at the desk of some institution.
    Lady: Hello do you have a reservation with us?
    Me: No, but I'd like to make one.
    Lady: We accept only online booking.
    Me: But I'm already here. And strongly prefer to speak in person.
    Lady: Well yes but I can only process online reservations.
    So I sat there, made a reservation on my phone and went back to her. She said "Ah, hello Sir. I see you have a reservation with us..." Most peculiar experience.

    hahaha, this is so true!!! just imagine I’m in UK over 15 years and when you need to sort out something over the phone is the same. you say the story what you need explaining lots of thinks and then ''ill transfer you to other department'' then again, the same and someone else again ''' it’s not my department so ill transfer you. Man, sometimes i waste over an hour for sort out something being transferred from department to department like a ball on football game. i was so many times angry. i had similar thinks at work as well, everyone sticks to only one role and no one is multi-tasking etc. today i get used to it and is normal for me. but yeah, this is exactly what it is. Ps you know why they comedy is so cool? because is real, its taken from reality and those thinks really happens.

      Exactly... Even after so many years of living in the UK, I still don't understand it, many times I wanted to do something in person but I couldn't because I had to call first and say that I wanted to come...
      I just hate phone calls in the UK, I never know who will answer... it's usually an Indian or an Arab who barely speaks English...
      I have poor English myself, but when we get down to the level of spelling and Alpha, Tango is too much for my interlocutor, I just want to smash my phone against the wall...

    one real life situation
    In Poland it is possible to check the train schedule online. you can also order a ticket online
    sometimes, however, it is better to go to the station and buy in person.
    I sometimes travel by train and I have encountered various situations
    I once wanted to buy a ticket. I checked earlier what hours I had available. I went to the ticket counter and said that I wanted to buy a ticket to a specific city, at a specific time. the seller told me that there was no such train at this time
    - Sir, but on the Internet it is stated that this train arrives at this time
    -then please go by internet

    This is even more ridiculous and stupid when you actually think about it a bit. This is a Telephonic Ticket Reservation, where you reserve your tickets, but you can actually go to the Ticket Selling Booth and buy the actual ticket for the train that departs next day...
    That man that wants to reserve the ticket is behaving like male Karen. "I have come to you so I want you to reserve this ticket for me." The only missing thing is asking of a Train station manager.

    The problem is, no, he cannot do it. It's not his choice, this is what he was ordered by the higher ups.
    Though yeah, he was being difficult on purpose, pretty standard reaction when entitled people want you to do more than you're supposed to just because it would be convenient for them.

    @RobReacts1 you do t understand that comedy cause polish its dificult laguage and we use the most of time words which sound the same but mean something different, and cabarets often refer to a given political and economic situation in the country, which immediately makes it difficult to understand this humor in Poland.

    My mother once wanted to make an appointment with the doctor. The receptionist told her that she couldn't make an appointment because the line she was calling corresponded to the ground floor and the doctor was on the first floor. So mom asked her for the telephone number for the first floor. The receptionist gave it to her and hung up. After calling the second number, it turned out that both phones were next to each other on the desk and the same lady answered it and made an appointment...
    My mother was shocked (understandably), when she told me this, at first I thought she was joking.
    But this is not the end of the adventures...
    When she went to her appointment and was waiting in the waiting room, the doctor came out of the office and started calling various names from the list (Times before GDPR). Mom looks at him with a questioning look and says: "Sir... -but I'm the only one here..." to which the guy looks from behind the papers and replies: "Really...? Come on in, then."
    Is everywhere helfcare like this or only at my place?
    Because we also have very nifty hospital with 2 star recommendation (altho it's still to high for place where doctor wanted to make a bet that my wrist was not broken and was making fun of me because I secured it)
