You're absolutely right. 40 bucks is a bargin for this knife dude. Thanks for the kind words dude. Glad to have you. Don't miss our benchmade fact gaw....few videos down from this one I think. 😎🤘🤘
When ever their's a comparison to a 400 dollar knife to a 40 dollar knife, you have to ask yourself what am I waiting for. Get these 40 dollar jobs while available.
I recently bought one because it looked cool and it was only $40. Is it as good as the one it cloned? Because I love the Icon. The grip angle along with the G10 and carbon fiber textures make for an excellent grid. So far the D2 steel blade hasn’t let me down yet
@@Graver81-69 honestly...yeah it is and it's a half inch longer overall so it actually gives someone with larger hands more real estate than the original as well.
Yeah , I look at more like slip joint guys do. The Buck 110 came out in 64. By 71 case had the hammerhead and Chuck Buck said it was great that people had options for a folding hunter. Those guys copied each other all the time. Only thr edc comments gets but hurt about it.
The mini glimpse is the same made in China deal. On knife center they’re selling for $79 and says made in China in the details. D2 steel and g10 scales. I’ll go with the icon. This knife isn’t enough of a copy to be an issue. The pretty blade design on the begg is just going to fill with debris too.
my brotha billy, very cool looking h.f. blade there , wished it was a tanto blade persoanlly here but not bad , great vid n keep em coming , thanks > tom !
I’ve owned the Icon knife for a month or so. It’s a great knife. At first it was a bit stiff to deploy, but after a while it became very smooth. All things considered this is certainly one of the best bargains you can buy. I highly recommend this knife. Cheers!
I guess. I have a 50 year old Camilus hawkbill that is a liner lock ...and it still works. Of course I do love carrying my fixed blades. Nothing replaces a good fixed blade...but they aren't the same tool to me.
Nice comparison. It would be interesting to see a comparison between the Harbor Freight Icon and the current Steelcraft mini Glimpse that is out now. I liked the knife so much after buying the first one, I went back and bought a second. With coupon, they were only $32 each. It’s a hell of a deal for a good blade. And when I paid for it, the guy at the register eyed it hard. I think another reason Begg Knives is upset is that HF is selling basically the same knife as their $80 Steelcraft mini Glimpse at half the price. And while the knife community is looking at this knife, I think it’s selling well to tool guys who are discovering what a decent knife can be.
Lots of great points. So steelcraft has a new mini glimpse out? I knew about the begg knives d2 $80 mini glimpse but Todd has nothing to do with that company either unfortunately. We gave our begg knives mini glimpse away but it would kind of be cool to size them up. Personally, I like the hf better than the $80 knife...but it's a half inch longer overall...that makes a difference in hand.
Brothers stole His legacy, and took over His patents with Beggs knives, they also sell a shoddy mini glimpse, which should in no way be confused with the Todd Beggs SteelCraft Mini Glimpse.
It's pretty decent. Hey I'm gonna fed ex the mayhem today. I'll include my info inside the box. Take your time with it, use it, enjoy it. Just let me know it made it to you. 😎🤘
That was interesting. You can buy many Chinese knives with "D2" and fake CF for 40 bucks. Wonder how this will stack up and I would love to see Luv Them Knives test the blade steel.
@@apex_alchemy_knives Just to be preemptive. As a side note in case anyone wants to chime in on my statement of Fake CF. I don't give a crap is someone takes a micro thin piece of real CF and slaps it on some laminate with glue on the back. If its lick em and stick em CF, its still fake to me even if its technically "real CF". I am damn sick of knife manufactures using that cheap crap and trying to pass it off on us. Yes I mean you Artisan Cutlery among many others. Like I said just being preemptive on the comment section.
Pound for pound the Begg should be better. Will it outlast 10 HF knives? I personally prefer the HF design. Mostly a Spyderco guy here. Have Taiwan, Japan, and American made one. My EDC was a Endura 4. Not much more craftsmanship, just more programming on the CNC or injection mold.
Yeah I talked to Todd a few hours ago. I told him if he wanted me to drop the video that I'd be happy to do so. He gave me the phone number to their hq. He said it was more of intellectual property dispute vs patent dispute. It's all very much over my head.
@@ScotchNThings Todd said he wasn't sure if his ex partners sold the patent. He did say that was a possibility. It's definitely sticky and a bit unfortunate...and quite confusing for the time being.
Did you say $399! Dude, that seems like a lot for S35 and CF even coming from Reate. I think I paid $60 for the D2 and G10 version at Blade West from the Begg Knives booth. There are some details I can see on mine that are less premium. It's probably halfway between the Harbor Freight and the Reate in quality, but way closer to the HF version in price, and I know it's legit.
SteelCraft is expensive. Not saying they are worth it, but it is what it is. You do get more premium materials. Plus from what we can tell Todd Begg is the one that created the design so you have to take that into account to. The HF and Begg Knives versions did not have to put any hours into the design process. They just used what had been done for them already. We do know for a fact now that Todd Begg SteelCraft and Begg knives are totally unrelated businesses and intellectual property has been crossed over the lines. The Beggs are not partners in business any longer. I can say that the HF from first feel and comparison is closer to the real version than the Begg Knives version was to me.--Courtney
@apex_alchemy_knives it's obviously just my opinion. If people will spend the money for a knife, then more power to the company that produced it. We all have to weigh the value and compare the available options. I personally would spend my $399 elsewhere, but to each there own, no judgment.

Their legal department would have to be comprised of the dumbest lawyers on the planet to let that get by them. You can be 99% sure this went through all the right channels to get to the point of release. Who knows how Harbor Freight landed on this particular design. But I get the feeling that they didn’t license the design from either Todd Begg or Begg Knives. And I also get the feeling that there’s not much they can do about it either. Harbor Freight isn’t marketing it as a Begg Knife or as a Glimpse. So it isn’t a counterfeit. And the knives do have some slight differences. So if the Beggs go after HF, I wish them luck. But I think HF has some deep pockets and can defend themselves. Snap On went after them and lost.
