People really wanted for the Daleks to appear in Blake's 7 as enemies from outside the galaxy. That would be so fucking brilliant. Also Paul Darrow didn't play Roj Blake, he played Avon. Gareth Thomas played Blake and appeared in Torchwood as that one old guy in the Ghost Machine.
Blake's 7 is a trip worth taking. Give it two episodes and I think you'll be hooked. The 4th season isn't as good as the previous three, but it's needed to complete the story. Honestly, between '78 and '80 I prefer it to Doctor Who... and those are some pretty good Who years.
@@SamyulDavis Absolutely. When I first heard of her (reading Short Trips, via your recommendation) I thought she was an interesting probably one-off character. Now, through the looking glass, I see she is everywhere.
"The Robots" Big Finish Spin-off may be overlooked by many but with the exception of two Episodes in Volume Two has been incredible. Highly recommended some of the Best Big Finish Writing and need no prior knowledge and just delivers a fun series with dark elements and a brilliant story arc.
Blake's 7 is good. It was budget (Especially the first season where it inherited the budget of a... low budget police procedural... with no increase on that. It makes 80s Doctor Who look well funded), but it has a very specific charm to it. Not all episodes are winners, but the overall thing is very enjoyable.
It's amazing what that show achieved on a budget of Doctor Who's table scraps. The story and characters shine through the sets. Sometimes, it sort of tried to BE Doctor Who and those were generally the weaker episodes. I think it was fantastic -- I watch the whole thing every few years.
Theory on "The Tardis" in Pre-Time! It's not a problem as "The Tardis" is a pocket dimention with it's own timeline. Just reverce flow of time thrue the Closter room and open "The Eye of Harmony". Nothing sould go wrong with that right.
It's really interesting as well as confusing when talking about pre--history in doctor who. I am not quoting anything but I remember Chritmas on a Rational Planet (VNA novel) expalined that before Time Lords created history, time exists though definitely in different way or under different rules, that dark time universe is full of chaos and possibility, until Time Lords gave it order. In the same book Carnival Queen claimed ''pre-universe'' actually equals to ''dark time'', which means what sixth doctor saw in Matrix is settled down between big bang and "anchoring of the thread". Yet generally speaking pre-universe should happened before big bang as many other stories suggest. In conclusion, IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE
Me pre-covid: pffft all these spin offs are so unnecessary, why can't the main show be enough for people? Me in 2021: oooh maybe once I finish the BBV Faction Paradox stuff I can have a look at Kaldor City!!!!
Another connection between Sooty and Doctor Who is the idea of junked episodes! Allegedly (I have been unable to find a citated source, a wikipedia article brought it to my attention), Richard Cadell, who owned the rights to Sooty from 2008 had said in a 2014 interview he received a lot of Sooty Archival stuff, and due to his distaste for "Sooty's Amazing Adventures", that animated spinoff, he had apparently wiped the master tapes. To my understanding, ITV have that show in their Archives but don't have the rights to release it.
I grew up watching both Dr. Who and Blake's 7 when they aired in the US and honestly, you're missing out. Just don't watch the 4th season. Nation fully intended the series to end at season 3, but the *literal head of the BBC* was so upset it was ending, when the season 3 finale was airing, he called the station and forced someone to get on air and say that there would be a fourth season, to the surprise of *everyone involved.* The core cast was having a watch party with Terry Nation there, only to hear the announcer say there was going to be a fourth season. Suffice to say, Nation stormed into their office and told them he was done and wanted nothing to do with the show anymore. Like, can you imagine that happening today? Oh wait, that happens all the time when a network has a cash cow series.....
I find the fact that Bill ran off with Heather hilarious. The episode just pretends like they had some kind of relationship or connection and that just makes me smile.
Only time they kiss is when Heather has full control over her non-corporeal form and looks clean. If you don't have a body, can you really be a corpse?
The entire thing with Heather really infuriates me. Who was she? It seemed like there was something going on with her even before the alien oil. Speaking of which, we never found out where that oil came from! I know it came from an alien ship, but what ship? Where did it come from? And if the oil leaking from the thing can make someone a god, what kind of ship could that have been? I honestly thought we would get answers to all of that, but no. Missed opportunity.
