- I once looked at the first version of the DSM & Humboldt Simplifier and was not impressed. It turns out that I must have had a faulty unit. Now it's time to fix that first impression with a brand new MKII.

Even if the unit you had was working well and you didn't liked it, we always accept you being honest. You wouldn't have to make excuses.
I respect your honesty. I remember watching that video you did on the simplifier and feeling like you hadn’t quite given it a fair chance. Because when I had gotten my simplifier and first tried it in the bedroom, I also had a lukewarm initial impression and, like you, felt that it sounded quite “DI-ish”. But after gigging live with it a couple times running into the PA at gig volume I was completely sold on it. It felt great, it sounded great, and it worked great as a pedal platform. Got the mkii and it’s even better. But again I respect that when you don’t like something, you say it. In the end it’s all subjective anyway and everyone oughta try things for themselves to truly know.
Love your channel. It's one thing to compare tone (which is very subjective) and features. This new unit (Simplifier DLX) kills most of the pedal sized modelers even at its price, as far as features go. Stereo XLR out along with stereo 1/4 inch out (that can have the speaker sim shut off). The ability two run two amps parallel or switch between two amps in stereo. Has stereo effects loop as well. Built in reverb and cab simulation. It's all analog, minus the Reverb I believe. Three different amp styles AC, American or British, with three different gain selections of clean, crunch or lead. Each have independent tone controls. You can select each amp to use different tube simulation of 6L6, KT88 or EL34's. The feature set was well thought out. Many other companies never think out of the box to make their product compatible with any guitar rig. I just hope it sounds good as well.
I have owned two simplifier deluxes purchased about 1 year apart.
I noticed that the input gain levels on the second one i purchased were WAY higher and i had to rebaseline the gain at the desk. Dont know if there was a design tweak after the first run...... Both sounded great still though.

Many people, myself included have complained that the simplified DLX effects loop has a feedback that makes it self oscillate with certain reverb pedals and delay pedals. I contacted their support about it to try and figure it out with them and they stopped responding. Outside of this issue it’s pretty cool. Super disappointed they have not addressed the issue.

There is a few threads on Reddit where a some people had this issue. One of them had their sweetwater rep test a few of the demo models that they had in stock and all of them exhibited the behavior. An empress employee also chimed into the thread saying that they have ran into this issue with several customers trying to use the DLX. Despite this I still loved the sound and the way it responded to my dirt pedals. I just want to warn people that if you are trying to run big reverbs and delays in the effects loop, this probably isn't a good pedal for you.@@EytschPi42
That’s really odd. That would mean that your delays and reverbs are then routed back to the input signal in order for them to self oscillate.
If you’re getting some other kind of noise, make sure that the reverbs/delays having issues are meant for line level. If they are for line level signal, make sure that the setting for line level is selected. The Timeline for instance can be either, but you’re supposed to select the option for line level or instrument level depending on your setup.
@@coupe-leeif I send a signal directly into the return and I plug the send into a speaker or headphones I can hear it faintly coming out of the send. The issue is the return signal bleeds back into the send. It’s not a problem typically except when there is a delay or a reverb with a sufficiently long tail in the effects loop.
@@K3150 yeah, I said that would be weird if that was the case, and it certainly is! That’s really bad that they aren’t addressing it. That’s definitely worth getting a replacement.

The DSM & Humboldt Simplifier MKII is much better than the first version anyway, even if it didn't leave my pedalboard, until the new MKII took its place

I had the first version Simplifier, it was sounding DI and it didn't take dirt pedals well. Overdrive, distortion and fuzz sounded like farts. Maybe my Simplifier was also crap.
Great form factor and feat of engineering etc, but also had the same experience. And the EQ knobs did not do much either, nor did the different "tube" switch. As HP said originally, just a good - albeit intrincate - DI box, but nowhere near the Iridium etc. (
@@rjl.cruces I bought the Boss IR-200 after I sold the Simplifier. It's digital, but sounds great! It's not perfect though... I'm not very happy about most of the amp models, but it's good enough...
All I need is enough of an amp & cab sim to allow me to use my pedals without an amp & cab. If you want more from an amp & cab sim…for it to be a big part of the sound…then it might not be for you. And in my case, the Simplifier is the only product in the category I’ve seen that includes everything that I want in one box. Effects loop, DI, headphone out, etc. It seems like everyone else leaves out at least one important element that then means you have to buy one or two other boxes for a complete solution to giving your pedalboard all the outs of a multi-fx unit from decades ago.
Agreed, Simplifier has an unbeatable feature set and form factor.

Neural DSP is from Finland as far as I know

I‘ll review the Simplifier MKII, but not compared to other pedals. It’s not a fair comparison.

The only strange thing with the DLX is, when you are using it with headphones, the cab sim, power amp sim and reverb level are separated left and right. it's a bit difficult to describe unless you're familiar with the unit, but: even though I'm only playing through the top pre amp, any changes to the lower set of controls that apply to that pre-amp only affect the sound in my LEFT ear. if you dial up the reverb, you have to do it for both ears. and I assume if you have wildly different basic settings for the two channels, it will sound pretty funky in your headset. I leave both of my power amp and cab sim settings the same so it isn't a big issue for me.

Henning, a little factoid fa ya! During WWII, some Germans went to South American. Mainly to Argentina ,but some to other parts of South America. Even some Koreans.

Ur not wrong at all henning...its just not made for you. Actually for us. You and me LOL....i dont click to with the simplyfier. Even i comapered it with the ly rock fakingfier. The result the ly rock better than the simplifier. Just my opinion
