More like sounds "hey, if we have a narrator we can get rid of 99% of the voice actor budget"
That was my exact thought
Well for a AA game and very low budget i can see why they made that choice too

For me this video started with an ad of biomutant, big Oof.
I got 2 Biomutant ads, actually. I guess THQ‘s marketing settings are just „if about Biomutant, do ad“.
Hahahaha that's the 1 time I miss ads with UA-cam Premium: game ads making promises right before a review video answers the question of whether it *actually* delivers

thicc boi is a surprisingly good reviewer. I appreciate that he dislikes and calls out time wasting elements of a game even if it's hyped up and looks pretty. That's the kind of stuff that I want to know as a working adult gamer.
I’ve started to wonder if we are so jaded we can’t enjoy games anymore. Ever game just feels ehh.
I was a bit late to the party, but I just started Red Dead Redemption 2, and it is blowing my mind with all the little details and how much of a quality product it is. Almost regret getting it at a discount because it is worth the full price. So yeah I still think good games are coming out every now and then... but they are far a part.
Library of ruina, baldurs gate3 and several others did not dissapoint...sadly these days they are the exeption not the rule
As someone with limited playing time and mostly just a console player..the games I’ve played since the pandemic hit have been..
- FF7R
- TLOU2
- Monster Hunter World
Then ps5 came out and I was lucky enough to have a girlfriend who somehow got one from Walmart...
- Demons Souls
- Days Gone
- Control
- Remnant from the Ashes
- Returnal
Out of those 8 games, 4 were “new” and top tier IMO. TLOU2 had a lot of controversy, but I had a great time playing it.
I’m not really jaded tbh. Back catalog of games (free if you have a ps5) and the 4 new games I’ve played have all been great.
With games like FF7R and TLOU2 at the end of the last generation and games like Demons Souls and Returnal out so far, I think the future looks pretty damn good.
Demons and Returnal...graphics, sound, gameplay are all so good and this is the very beginning of the “next gen”. Remember ps4 we got Knack 2.
Don’t let Cyberpunk get you jaded lol.
Huh?! Most reviewers agree this game is crud. Go to metacritic for lots of games in the last 12 months that were epic (use the user scores if you prefer). If you didn’t enjoy any games recently, talk to a therapist, because you are not jaded, it’s far worse
Your jaded the game is actually damn good
Did anyone else here watch both skull up and layman's reviews
They made an RPG in which players hate leveling up. That is some kind of accomplishment
Cant speak for all of us im so excited to play this
Seriously, stop taking one or two reviews, which are OPINIONS, as absolute fact. Not everyone is going to find the leveling system cumbersome. You have to find out for yourself. I won't be paying full price for this game considering the other games that have dropped recently but when it goes on sale, I'll be excited to try it.
@@AuraysTimelessChannel No need to get so defensive, chief. Personally I trust the Laymen because their reviews have yet to steer me wrong. If you like the game, that's fine. There are people who like 76 and the Avengers. My thinking a game is probably going to be hot garbage should not effect your enjoyment at all.
Reviews should be deleted until everyone has played the game
@@rustyshakkleford I mean it kinda does your blindly following rather than experiencing and making your own opinion just adds to negative publicity and review bombing so small games like this can't get a solid footing on their first outting and are doomed from continuing thus hurting those that do actually enjoy it. It sounds like they tried imitating the narrator from Bastion but really missed the mark

💰? maybe...
People listen to idiots and think what others do, follow the trends of stupidity and it makes buying games better
Not !
This game actually started pre-production/development in 2016, and the the game was in announced in 2017 so they couldn’t have lifted all of their mechanics from The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. Obviously the game takes inspiration from breath of the wild (among other games), but the game does have its own identity.
You guys seem to be being overly harsh toward this game, while I can agree it didn’t live it to it’s full potential and some ideas were under backed it’s still in my opinion a sold and fun game.

Ever since Thiccboy is part of this show again I enjoy it MUCH more
The way they described the levelling and crafting systems pretty much sums up one of the biggest issues I have with modern gaming nowadays. Why does everything always has to be needlessly convoluted and confusing?
I've got SO MANY games on my Playstation that I've never got round to playing. I just can't be bothered to start most of them because I know I'll have to spend hours learning how all of the different crafting systems work and what all the resources are used for etc before I can really understand how to 'play' the game. It's overwhelming
I don't mess with most survival games because of this.
I don't want to play with the wiki open on my phone because the game thinks time consuming = fun.
Damn man, was rooting for the devs :(

Never trust reviews, if you were looking forward to it and you really wanted it then go buy it, don't let others tell you what to do with your own money. Everyone has a different opinion, remember when Days Gone got reviews? The gamers didn't agree with them after they played the game for themselves

I'm going to predict that in like five years this game is going to be called a hidden gem or misunderstood game. Cause these problems sound mostly nitpicky and fixable. Happened way too many times before.
The game sucks, stop living in denial u fanboy
eh, this game started development before breath of the wild came out. and yeah, its a formula that fenix rising used, including narration, so that can work.
That doesn't mean the devs didn't see BOTW and redesigned it to follow the formula. They wouldn't be the first game to do that, That Immortals game did the same thing
@@JJJBunney001 Of course Immortals did it, and they did it well. It started development after AC:Odyssey and came out fairly fast. To say Biomutant did the same, well, many games have "conquer region" mechanics in them, what other features are they using from BOTW? And yeah, seems overall the reviews are really harsh on this game, which is sad to see, but lets focus on what this game does, not "andromeda sucks because I wanted mass effect 4 that would fix the sucky ending of mass effect 3".
Honestly, they didn't develop shit. This has no right being called a game.
I got the game last night early , I’m like 12 hours in so far , and I’m loving it , the narrator is awesome , I love his whimsical explanation for things like a phone booth or random shit , a few things I don’t like , is I find nothing but meds when I loot crates and chests. Skill Up praised Cyberpunk , and I tucking hated that game , it was hot garbage and still is hot garbage after all the patches , don’t listen to this review , if you think you’re gonna enjoy this , then just get it, don’t let some shit review rob you of any enjoyment you could be having playing this game
I’ll listen to them instead of someone that loves a repetitive narrator that has to keep informing me that it’s night now....Oh that’s why it’s dark now wow I had no idea 🙄
Problem is one the game looks empty. I have games with vast open space of nothingness. Second, the combat looks like you could spam guns from a distance with zero skill.
"I disagree therefore you are shit" get over yourself you narcissist. Everyone has different opinions, you can just say you like the game. I liked it too I'm 7 hours in, but their complaints are very valid and I can see how the combat could've annoyed them even when I enjoyed it. The quest structure IS very repetitive, objectively, it's just that I personally don't mind because I found the main loop fun. If you're enjoying this, that's fine, like I said I am too, but don't trash them just because they disagree with your personal opinion. This video was a well crafted and thorough review, and I haven't seen anyone put as much effort in reviews as Skill Up does.
I feel like it's a narrative being pushed to hate this game despite most of the people who have played it and are not payed to talk about it really liking it
@@locs13000 It's almost as if the OP has never played Destiny. The delivery of Ghost's lines by Peter Dinklage was so monotone that he got cut.

You want a story spoonfed to you like Last of Us, New Ratchet and Clank? I want a game! Not a playable movie!
"I want one armor, one weapon, a skill tree and an easy lvl system" hmm..Sekiro? Oh wait that was to difficult for u.
Yeah that was a very dumb statement I hated Sekiro because I felt I had so few character defining options especially in the way of builds or new playthroughs like I did in Souls and Bloodborne. The menu was not that difficult to grasp and the multiple currencies were just materials, mutation points, psi points, and general skill/perk points not that hard to grasp at all. Like I feel I can build a whole weapon and unique armor set not just premade sets.
He didn't ask for the difficulty of sekiro tho
What the hell are you talking about? The difficulty in Sekiro was learning enemy patterns/parrying correctly. Literally nothing to do with the skill tree/weapon etc etc.
Just talking about the crafting itself and whilst it's cool, I agree it's very cumbersome in this
I don't understand when comparing the world to BoTW it doesn't share the same feeling. BoTW was my first Zelda, growing up everyone praised Ocarina, Windwaker, and TP... but literally, Windwaker for me was 90% ocean, and my experience of BoTW was 90% forests, mountains, and ancient-tech ruins... I only reached 2 divine beasts then got bored.
Point being, I don't understand how they can say what they say about Biomutant when I literally experienced that in BoTW -- I find it unfair that a brand name can carry something out of review hell like that...
Man I don't think I've ever disagreed this much with both Laymen and SkillUp about a game....I'm about 12 hours into the game so far and having a blast with it. It's by no means a perfect game, but I definitely wouldn't say it's "not a good game" at all though. I'd give it about a 7-7.5 / 10
Yeah I think it just depends on what games you come from. I play jrpgs all the time and these kinds of issues are just par for the course in those lol. The price tag should probably be lower for that though in fairness.
@@clark2109 Then they should not reviews genres that did not care for.
Eh I think people just have unrealistic expectations for new games especially by small devs. They hear open world and instantly it has to hit every note of every big open world game they've ever played rather than looking at them on their own and on what unique things they bring to the table. We just get spoiled by features that big companies have had ages to perfect and make that the minimum for any up and comer and that just isn't a fair lens to have. While there are plenty of faults the game is very fun if people would just stop measuring it to the greats and play it for what it is and tried to do.
Idk if I’m growing out of video games since I’ll be turning 30 this year but not a single game that has come out since ice borne has been cool/good/fun enough to make me want to play it for more then 30m before I get bored AF
No it just that games are taking less risks & copying what works. Which is getting stale.
Especially open worlds. The only kind of open worlds that can never be boring are ones you can change.
It's just hard to find quality games these days bud. I've gotten into emulation recently, classic n64 never let's me down.
You may just be getting burnt out. Maybe you should take a break and come back to it.
I agree with you. Nothing has come close to me in terms of open-world rpg since the Witcher 3. I don't think we are growing out of it, maybe games just are struggling to reach that level of quality.

You'll be missing out, 60 hours of content and lots of variety. It's obviously worth the 60 dollar price, remember Days Gone Reviews? The gamers didn't agree with those reviews after they played it for themselves, it's not "bad at launch"
@@zenoxgaming3316 My opinion of what I've seen is "right now the game is a waste of money" I'm still keeping an eye on it in case of flaws I didn't like get fixed. Only coincidence that I agree with reviews at times. I have to be very careful with my extra spending budget.
Actually I don't mind it, sure it's a bit repetitive but it makes you think. I don't like the environment stuff but gameplay is solid. I had a few crashes, but what game doesn't. I'm only level 10 but other than load times when I die on PS4 it's OK.

Alot of people are loving this game. Why u comparing this to Botw lol? When you set expectations to damn high like cyberpunk your gonna be looking at shit like its supposed to be the next best thing. Some games deserve to be quirky, not so serious, fun, relaxing, silly, colorful, etc.. This game fits all those. The narrative can be annoying and janky combat is bad at times. They are fixing it. But the combos, openworld, loot, builds, plot, armor and everything else this game has is great, and itss sad to see channels like this give it so much flak and not being objective but toooo subjective. But hey its your review. I'm loving itt and im a hardcore souls fan... So i know what it's like to love combat and polish. This games is alot better than outriders and shit boxes like avengers. Biomutant gives you alot of things to do and alot of shit to explore. Im glad alot of people love it. But if we are gonna dog shit on games like this, then i see less potential on future games in the future. This was a team of 20 and you can tell they put alot of heart in it. Your viewers need to judge this for themselves and not listen to everything by hearsay
You nailed it. They are just gaymen laming

What game isn’t derivative of another game? Or what pice of media isn’t inspired by another peace of media, that’s kind off a mute point.
Ohhhhh no! I'm seeing all the titles from the reviews :(
was looking forward to this one :(
Hey I enjoyed cyberpunk 2077 so it's worth bearing in mind reviews are subjective.
Me too!!!
I thought it was amazing. I played on stadia it had less issues than other platforms.
same here, played on pc and only had 3 minor bugs in 126 hour street kid run,was mostly things like couldn't pick up loot when it dropped,2 times i bought an item from the shop, got charged but never got given the item in my inventory.
Exactly.
Daaaaaamn. I watched Pewdiepie play like the first 4 hours and it looked awesome.

It is awesome, don't let these reviews tell you what to get or not get, if you think it's awesome and you want to play it, then go for it, don't let random people on the internet tell you otherwise
@@Assassin199410 Nah, after watching ACG, FightingCowboy, and Skillups reviews in which they pretty much all say the game is bad that pretty much means this is a game to avoid.
@@saucemaster2 yup, big red flag... So glad I've waited for the reviews
@@OniiChan6161 Me too. I'll still buy the game on sale at some point. Especially after it gets plenty of updates and post launch content. Just not at launch.
You'd think game devs would be like Chess competitors. Chess Masters have the ability to read moves, games, and theory from all of the masters before them.
Devs have the ability to look at every game that has ever been released, but the problem is most developers are avid gamers themselves and are full of biases or occasional bad taste. Too many AAA games under their belts, but only the recent ones that have been poisoned by executives.
This is such a bummer that it’s not that good! It looks so good I guess we wanted it to be great!
Well I don’t know what to say other than play it and decide for yourself it looks as advertised
It is good. Play it for yourself. Don't be sheep and listen to review bombers looking for clicks.

After Cyberpunk 2077 and now this, I'm starting to think that the higher the pre-release marketing budget, the wiser you are to avoid. Sad, because I had been looking forward to this one.
Lmfao facts.
Also multiple delays, since CP27 stuff i really avoid preordering or buy day1 game if its have multiple delays lol
Buuuut only 1 game that i will buy/PO, its MonsterHunter IP, that game is already solid lol
it is not Cyberpunk levels of bad though lol. Especially for a console release. it just needs fixes to combat mostly. I like the narrator but you can adjust it to minimal or off if you don't like that . There is the option to just read text instead. It's weird people don't care that Nintendo rarely put speech in an RPG yet they expect a 20 person team to have different voice characters lol
This game will still make a big profit, literally because it was able sell itself well, not because it plays well
Sadly this seems to be the direction games are going these days. Sell it off doesnt matter if its crap just make ur profit.
It's the art style it is good enough for me to forgive quite a bit lol . Exploration is genuinely fun though , it is the combat that needs work more than anything.
It all sounds like problems from being such a small studio. They didn't have a good creative lead, probably didn't have game testers who could hell them what's fun and what's not and they had to go with whatever writers and actors they could afford. The game looks great and they did it in 5 years with 25 people, meaning they have real talent working there. Hopefully their next attempt improves on everything they've done here.
Such a shame. Also interesting this was posted at the same time as another rather unknown channel. Skill up Or something I think is the name. Never heard of him.
It's not a "shame" because these people are wrong, everyone has a different opinion
@@Assassin199410 how can you say “these people are wrong” and “everyone has a different opinion” in the same sentence?
The hype was all these UA-camrs and media saying only 20 people making this game and were supposed to feel bad and make them a quarter of a billion dollars and this game is trash on top of THQ Nordic's smart-ass remarks to gamers on Twitter. Maybe they'll treat the Gamers with a little more respect. After this maybe they can get a job as janitors in the halls of Zelda so they can get some ideas.
You must’ve played and beat the game?

Most of the negatives are things that I actually enjoy.

Enjoyed the video but I’m still keeping my pre order and Gonna enjoy the game don’t let others decide what you like and play this is their opinion. I recommend those who want to watch go watch cochcarnage play through. Not every game is made for everyone the stuff there saying is not definitive.
Good luck with that
@@fatbroccoli8 I will it’s a very fun game, these guys clearly wanted and expected something else there also super jaded this game was not made for them they wanted another Witcher this is just a game from small devs who worked hard go watch people on twitch ask gamers what they think it’s a good game don’t just blindly follow reviews it’s their opinions nothing else.
These are 2 older gamers. They are a little more jaded than some of the younger people who this game will certainly appeal to. These guys have seen virtually everything. I am in that jaded category as well so I'll wait for a sale before I buy this but absolutely, YES, reviews are opinions. Only in the rarest of circumstances should you base your game shopping on reviews.
@@MasterJazz09 lol I don’t think they were expecting anything like the Witcher and I’m not blindly following their opinions, I thought all their cons for the game were gonna be cons just from watching the previews and trailers so I was already not gonna get it anyway, if they said it was amazing then I’d wait for a sale lol but now I’ll prob just wait until it’s free or really cheap in a couple years. How much have you played of it anyway?
@@fatbroccoli8 same ppl saying it’s bad the the same ones who buy cod every year and then being older is not special I have played just as many games they are no better then me I play the same games they clearly were looking for something else in this game and don’t appreciate it but I do it’s miles above the AAA trash we get saying it’s bad is dishonest imo there are actual bad games out there who deserve that title not this one of your unsure wait for a discount but don’t blindly follow a review it’s not gospel.
Remember when “ice cream scoops” was a simpleton’s version of a score out of 10? Well, now we have kid size scoops, with or without sprinkles, with an extra stick of flake, and 1/16th of a scoop. Or… just give games a score out of 10?
i remember the good old days when reviews had a sound quality category and a value category :)

I love this game. It looks beautiful and I love the exploring, looting, and crafting. I’m lvl 23 already; mostly just doing side quests and exploring.
Is there a chance this game will get better through quality of life updates and DLCs?
The red flags were as the same as Cyberpunk’s:
Multiple delays
Overhyped
Always remember NOT to preorder, always wait for the reviews from smaller review sites/UA-camrs
Everyone is saying this is as bad as Ubisoft’s open world games (it pretty much has everything that we all hate about their games)
Seems like the reviews are mixed atleast from the 3 I've seen.. these guys says it's whack. The other 2 is saying it's not a AAA experience but it is worth your time, you will have fun. Think I'll check it out for myself
The difference is we got a complete game here... its just kind of mediocre, I love laymen and their reviews but when things are bad they are super super harsh... Few other trusted reviewers I watched said it was actually a decent game, just kinda mediocre overall as it doesnt do anything special.
Remember, this is THEIR pov, not yours. Although it’s a good review guide, watch gameplay for yourself or play it yourself. Don’t just listen to one reviewer.
Skillup and The Division 2 ahem
@@fredfuchs5600 agreed lol, stopped watching him after that, not to mention quite a few games he highly praised i found disappointing and quite a few he said were shit i enjoyed.
Found it funny that halfway through this video I got an ad for this game. The first ad I've ever seen of it.
Just because they let you turn the narrator down, doesn't mean that they knew you would find it annoying. They know some people might prefer a narrator and some might not. It's like turning on/off subtitles or on-screen commands.
If it weren't able to turn it down, you'd be like "there isn't even a way to turn it off or down".
“wait for the day 1 patch” 😂😂
Have about 12 hours of gameplay in. They need to add more outposts and some type of enemy patrols or convoys. The map is beautiful, so adding more quality of life can be easy to add to it
I really hope they update the game so that these people that got early access didnt get the full experience. I heard there are no enemies randomly wandering, i feel like a few updates will address a few things. Days gone, for example. Needed updates.
I remember when I saw igns review for elex and they pretty much shit on the game, I avoided it. After a couple years I saw acgs review and he actually liked it so I went and bought it. Needless to say I put over 30 hours into that game just having fun. I'm definitely done listening to ign for good and only sticking with acg, and skilllup. Once karak puts up his review then I'll make the decision.
I can tell you future, you wont buy it.
ACG review was out before you posted this lol.
Unfortunetly, this is potential a byproduct of the 20 man development team. But I appreciate how upfront the studio was about their limitations and what it could be. I'm still gonna check it out, but will wait for a big steam sale.

An interesting point of view I heard from Mac at Worthabuy, is that he didn't recommend the game either except with a caveat. He said he thinks it's a good game for kids that aren't mature to play games made for adults.
This is going to be so upsetting for so many people.
Who cares this game is lackluster and it needs to be said
@@dipchips34garvis68 I'm enjoying the game. I didn't have expectations of a 9/10, and after hearing all the negativity, I thought the worse when I booted my pre-order... but it surpassed the expectations set by people. And I'm really liking it.
Is it for everyone? No. But people are highly critical of this game for some reason...
So it sounds like the Narrator works like the Narrator in Bastion a little? I definitely loved that concept back then.
"The kid just rages for a while."
-Rucks, The Narrator
Maybe they just did a poor execution of that story telling element?
Im gonna be completely honest, I didnt even know this game was coming out soon
Same. I forgot it even existed.
Why can't any recent RPG game do the RPG part right? They feel like games which have sacrificed the narrative, cinematic elements found in your handcrafted linear story driven game i.e Uncharted, TLOU even FPS like Halo, you know games that are about playing through a single experience less about character building, world exploring and choices, games that earn the right to have somewhat more restricted and homogenized game-play because what is there is so high quality. However, they don't have that and the RPG elements left are really bland and meaningless, its like so many devs have never played a proper RPG, please just look to any game that has done skills, combat, loot, exploration, freedom of movement etc correctly and use those ideas, im not talking about doing something new or groundbreaking, I am talking about hitting the mark of an average level RPG but even that cannot seem to be hit? It's not about money or time, its about just implementing the RPG part just incorrectly, where they don't need MORE they need do tear it down and rebuild it to just be competent.
RPG has gone downhill after Witcher 3

I must say: despite all the negative reviews Biomutant is getting, it is a STUNNINGLY good-looking game
Turds can be polished quite well.
I wonder if part of the problem with this game is, it's not reviewer friendly. Reviewers got to complete the main story as fast as possible and make a review. Since a lot of comments seem to be more forgiving of the games shortcomings. Also I've seen people love and hate the exact same thing which is weird (ex: the world eaters)
Sounds like they tried to have the narrator like in Bastion. Never got tried of that guy while playing.
Its like Fenyx Rising narrator or Dungeon Keeper 2

It really hurts to hear that this game sucks :( This looked like an insanely promising new IP and literally yesterday I was thinking:
"Man, cant wait to see what the reviews say about the game"
Im waiting for Shill Up to see if the brother trinity agree, but what you all mentioned here really sounds disappointing 😔
It never "looked" good to me. It just seemed like 95% of other games that take mechanics from other games.

There was a game like Transistor with a good narrator maybe like 10 years ago. A platformer? In the sky? It was like an isometric (strategy?) I forgot. That game did narration well.

Lol Yea, but they're speaking to the hyped small fanbase.
I’m probably still gunna buy it full price. I appreciate the concept, and I want to support variety/creativity.

I dont understand what you guys are looking for. I'm having a great time with the game. You said you're not trying to be harsh but you really are.
Tbfh, game is fun as hell
I feel like a narrator can really work. I actually enjoyed the back and forth between Zeus and Prometheus in Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Then again, that was two narrators.
Zeus and Prometheus worked so well because they are just genuinely fun to listen to, especially when Prometheus snarks about Zeus's sex drive
oof wanted it to be good :(
Wow, it’s not copying Fallout. The studio that made the game is called Experiment 101.
I can’t wait to play it. They have years to adopt fan suggestions and make changes they likely already wanted to make.
Watched pewds stream it for over 3 hours and it was awesome. Definitely gonna buy it
I think people can agree this is anywhere from a 4 to 7 out of 10. It may not be great, but I'm personally very interested to see where this dev team will do next.
