Even with the mixed reviews I think it still looks fantastic for the size of their development team. $60 seems a little much for it but the way I look at games is if I'm going to get even 25+ hours out of it it's worth it if I'm having fun. I can look past small glitches and issues aslong as they're not ultimately game breaking. I'd pay $30 to go to the movies for 2 hours of entertainment. I think we have become more aware of developers having us over in recent years with promises unfulfilled and awful releases but I think it's made many of us at the same time overly sceptical and picky on things that really are quite good. Great review, thanks for sharing your thought
With as much detail and depth they put in the game 60$ is the perfect price for this game people are way to quick to say something isn't worth 60$ these days like we haven't been paying 60$ for the last 2 console generations this isn't new news . And if you keep up with the dive in dev videos you can clearly see it worth 60$ weather you like it or not without any bias
i think the problem is every game is now compared to other games. so if $60 gets you X game that you absolutely loved and got tons of hours into it, but then its still $60 for Y game, which is less (to them), people cant comprehend that. I like what I'm seeing from these reviews. even the Cons, im like, yea, not a problem to me. I'll keep this on my wishlist. if it goes on sale, or im just ready to invest time into a new game, ill snag it.
Was thinking the same thing. The game seems so close to being elevated to that next level, if only they had a press screening or an open beta months before
To be honest though, with this particular game, I think it was manpower and budget that led to many of the issues. It's a first game for a new dev of 20 employees. I'm sure if they had the manpower and budget, the sound would be great, and their would be actual voice acted dialogue. Sucks. But meh. They bit off too much for them to chew.
Most reviewers, especially at the bigger places, would probably jump at the idea of helping alpha/beta-test games privately, and probably for "free" if they're allowed to get some exclusive access or earlier videos out. To your point... more companies should look into doing this with people who make money reviewing games (legitimately) like ACG, rather than traditional playtesting or in addition. Interesting thought!
ACG is not a game designer, belive me, it's not the same, small teams should consult other game designers, you wouldn't belive how many are actually willing to give good advice, also you have things like the GDC where you can learn from vets. Making games is not the same as reviewing them my dudes
was just thinking this game looks like the devs had a week long bong binger with the fortnight llama and thought up the entire thing while completely flamed. looked interesting until I saw that fortnight menu clone...
The way I see these AA devs (20 person team) have made a new unique game with a few issues but still looks funs versus AAA with tons of microtransactions and broken gameplay. I rather support them than a AAA dev.
THIS! These reviewers will praise games like ESO, New World, FFXIV, BDO, etc because they are familiar and offer what they're looking for yet a small team attempts something new and it's "trash"? Personally I am so tired of mass farming herds of enemies
I'm having a blast playing this game...actually not since GOW, Rachet & Clank, have I had so much fun in a game. That's why the industry is the way it is, if it's not a 70 million dollar game it's crap...bunch of sheep with no brains man...I bet you preordered cyberpunk and all its dlcs though...lol
I agree! I'm just happy to support games with unique ideas since we seem to be getting stale with rehashes/remakes. I was going to buy this game regardless, but I do think $60 is a little steep for a lot of people. Mainly because it seems like the type of game you need to play in order to see if it appeals to you or not.
Man, your reviews are so good that I have no idea why a publisher or developer hasn't hired you as a QA director already. So thorough that I feel like having your opinion before a game goes gold could make the game significantly better.
@@SeaOfMany True but I think if the devs get to work, take that feedback and use it productively to improve and patch the game it can be saved. I'm gonna wait and hope that happens before I buy it.
Will still get it. I rather have a messy game that tries something different and new, than another Ubisoft Open world game. This game is made by 14 people. The price is too high, if it was 30-40 bucks it could be alright.
If you watched skill ups review. He described the game as very similar to a Ubisoft open world game in its structure. Boring and repetitive with lots of copy paste
This is the first game where I can actually say I kept from getting my expectations too high, and I'm glad I did. It seemed too good to be true, and is.
You got to remember this is not 500 people building this game. I'm sure they had to cut corners all over the place to meet the deadline which was probably pushed back multiple times. Having said that from what I see I think it looks very good and understanding going into it that is not going to be a perfectly Polished game. I still want to support the developer for trying something new and being bold because this game is very bold. I appreciate the single player narrative-driven video games
Doesn’t matter. review scores shouldn’t set on a curve due to team size, especially when it’s 60 bucks. I commend them for trying their best, but they will be critiqued as much as any other game with 500 people.
Not me type of a game, but i'm glad that these kind of games still manage to see the light of day, not really AAA, but not indie either. There used to be a big AA market once with devs experimenting and sometimes coming up with real bangers that would never get released by the big publishers. Hope BioMutant manages to find it's audience and pays off to the devs.

As someone who Utterly adored Death Stranding, I don't think the idea of a lack of encounters is gonna bug me too much. In fact my least favourite bit of Death Stranding WAS the combat, I was constantly thinking "Aww fucks sake I don't want to deal with BTs or MULEs", which was probably the intention but point stands. The exploration and the "Hell yeah this is like hiking in Sweden" was utterly delightful in DS and I'm glad that Biomutant in its largely exploration-based experience is that.

Reminds me a lot of the sleeper hit of 2019, Greedfall. Super unique, double A game which just didn’t have the gameplay totally together. It was janky at release but they cleaned up the rougher parts eventually. Here’s hoping this game gets the same love.

@@infanterambles meaning for me and my other half, after drinks and sweets sure. I wasn't meaning just a ticket
i think the problem is every game is now compared to other games. so if $60 gets you X game that you absolutely loved and got tons of hours into it, but then its still $60 for Y game, which is less (to them), people cant comprehend that. I like what I'm seeing from these reviews. even the Cons, im like, yea, not a problem to me. I'll keep this on my wishlist. if it goes on sale, or im just ready to invest time into a new game, ill snag it.
@@hoofhearted4 sounds like a good plan, hope you have fun when you get round to it 😁
I have often wished that game companies would consult people like ACG about a year before the game releases. Invaluable input.
Was thinking the same thing. The game seems so close to being elevated to that next level, if only they had a press screening or an open beta months before
yeah thats called QA and testing.
If you don’t support a game like this it won’t get upgrades, DLC and future instalments!
Lots of potential, will be supporting for sure!
Same 🔥
Art style had me until the Fortnite upgrade/menu UI.
Right?! That's what I thought!!
I like the UI for upgrades and stuff, wayyyy better than most open world games like Fallout and Skyrim.
@@user-tg3jl1mt4e must love fortnight as well 😂. I'm just kidding
If it works, it works I guess.
was just thinking this game looks like the devs had a week long bong binger with the fortnight llama and thought up the entire thing while completely flamed. looked interesting until I saw that fortnight menu clone...
For a AA game, I'm getting it. Plus for a small group of devs, this is still impressive. Plus there could be quality of life updates.
It is above ok game. My biggest issue is close range combat. I believe once they fix that the game will be even more enjoyable.
The only reviewer I listen to and trust. Brilliant in depth review. Thanks. This is one I will wait for a sale.
People had fun making this game. Looks like a grab bag of ideas. It is interesting at the very least. Killer review as always!
I agree! I'm just happy to support games with unique ideas since we seem to be getting stale with rehashes/remakes. I was going to buy this game regardless, but I do think $60 is a little steep for a lot of people. Mainly because it seems like the type of game you need to play in order to see if it appeals to you or not.

Yes! Same.
Maybe if it wasn’t 60 dollars for a sub par game
Doesn’t matter. review scores shouldn’t set on a curve due to team size, especially when it’s 60 bucks.
I commend them for trying their best, but they will be critiqued as much as any other game with 500 people.
This isn't really narrative driven tbh though. The story is kinda eh and the way it's told to you is also not great as well.
This game was made by a team of only 20 people. I’m amazed by how good and fun it looks. I’m definitely going to get this it looks very unique
Not me type of a game, but i'm glad that these kind of games still manage to see the light of day,
not really AAA, but not indie either. There used to be a big AA market once with devs experimenting
and sometimes coming up with real bangers that would never get released by the big publishers.
Hope BioMutant manages to find it's audience and pays off to the devs.
To me the game looks like it should be around $15 to $20 worth, something to play from time to time.
Focus home has really nailed that part of the market. Alot of games they publish are fantastic experiences, and 35-45 bucks
personally they should of worked on it more, it feels like alpha still mechanics and open are really lack luster, game makes ubisoft open world look better, which is sad...

I got this game through the mail on Saturday. I love it. It's just such a fun game and bright and colourful and just something that bit different. It's not a game to be taken seriously. It does have a little bit of everything. The best I way I could describe it is a mix between Horizon:Zero dawn/ Devil may cry and Ratchet and Clank. I've just finished RE:Village and Returnal and this is such a welcome break from dark and serious tones. If you want a good time, but this game.
Exactly what I need right now , just a fun silly game
That sounds like just the mix I’ve been needing! Sometimes you need a game to come along that isn’t so dark or serious

I was really looking forward to this when it was first annouced and as we got closer to release i was feeling more and more apprehensive and i guess now i know why.
