  • The deadline of the latest round of US-sponsored Israeli-Palestinian peace talks is looming. But can it produce an agreement after decades of failure?
For more than 20 years, from the Madrid talks in 1991 up to recent times, Dr Saeb Erekat has been negotiating peace with the Israelis - without success.
In this episode, Mehdi Hasan goes head to head with Dr Erekat on the shortcomings of the Palestinian strategy, and whether his government's alleged corruption and human rights abuses have played a part.

I’m watching this when Al Shifa hospital 🏥 has collapsed and children 🧒 👦 👧 elderly, Drs, and volunteers are in a siege with snipers on the outside of hospital 🏥 and those inside have no electricity, water, food, medicines or fuel ⛽️ for machines to work. People are screaming 😱 and dying in pain and soon it’ll be nothing more than a graveyard 🪦 without any coverage. Its awful to watch this Genocide But seeing this video now adds to my understanding of the depth of this issue. Its so sad how the cards were always stacked against the Palestinian people and in favor of Israel 🇮🇱. Obvious to me There was Never a two state solution.
I understand why Norman Finkelstein gave up on it. This genocide and the loss of an entire people will be upon these Palestinian leaders. The blood 🩸 on all these peoples hands 🙌 who could’ve done better for the Palestinians is evident. This is so sad 😞

And he has the best quality of regret and acceptance which can be seen on his face.

I am a French guy working as security agent.
Take a look to Meurice hotel in Paris.
I worked there when the president of Palestine visit Paris for almost 3 weeks in 2016.
The room he choose coast 15000€ the night. It's a big appartement to the top of the hotel. I blocked the elevator for him and his guard, and when I said to them hello no one answer me back accept one man who smile to me and reply with no sound but his lips. The president look at me from head to toe and turn his back. Few months after that I convert to Islam and when I'm thinking about that, I can't stop telling myself why he had this behaviour as a muslim. Things are not done because of his good position. I sincerely hope he will change or leave to someone who really want to fight into the right path.

Erekat was a good man, may he rest in peace. But Arafat not only failed, i would say even betrayed his people. Hamas was running hospitals and feeding poor widows and orphans in Palestine while he was living in exile in Tunis, after being thrown out of Jordan and Lebanon for starting trouble there. Then Israel had the genius idea to bring Arafat back, and promised him his own international airport and lots of aid if he agreed to carve up Palestinian land into A, B, and C pieces that were defined as either more, or less, Israeli. Even Netanyahu said, some areas were designated as military priority, but what military priority was never defined, so effectively Israel could do what it wanted while Arafat controlled his people and raked in the dollars and international aid and got to enjoy the privileges of a head of state. The Palestinian people got nothing from this except normalized repression, with help from their "own" government, which got 40 thousand automatic rifles as part of the Oslo deal with which to control the Palestinian population.

As a Palestinian American I do not agree or support the isreali government in any sense and do think that it’s methods are unconventional during this period in time. However I do not think this Palestinian who has the authority in putting Israel in a hotspot has not done much for my people unfortunately. The issues lie in the excessive military force that Israel has in which is receiving four billion dollars per year from America. Recently an autistic Palestinian was shot by an 18 year old isreali soldier who clearly had poor training and a bit of racism in his heart. The land of Palestine is shrinking with more and more settlers moving in areas that supposedly Palestinian territory. Israel’s government are not receiving a proper investigation in which the actions that have led to much destruction have the following consequences of accountability for misconduct. I believe Palestinians need a new reformed government but at the same time Israel needs to adjust itself in playing fair which I highly doubt will occur any time soon.

Accept the deal the Israelis offer even if its only 90% of the 1967 territories and even if it doesn’t include Jerusalem and even if you can’t let millions of Palestinian refugees back into Israel all at once. Accept reality as it is now and stop living in the past because that was always your people’s mistake from 1917 up until now and until you face that mistake and take accountability for it and force yourself not to repeat it even at the cost of your pride and ego you will never get a state of your own. Way back in history, The area came from Canaan, Levant and Philitine. Jews and Palestinians have claims to the land so they should share it, even though Jews have historically been there for the longest time. As Danny indicated, this war will never resolve due to the religious goals of both sides, as both need the other side out forever. The other issue is that the terrorists get way too many £billions every year from the UN so it is in their interest to keep the war simmering for as long as possible to access the UN "pity me" treasure chest. If the PLO accepted peace and an equal share of land we would not be in this war today. Hamas are sub-human evil so no joy there, ever.

I am saddened to hear that US have failed to reach a solution proposition that makes happy both parts, Israelis and Palestinians. This was bound to happen when they openly take a side and can't make both parties in negotiations give up something for the sake of peace. And is disgraceful even more knowing how badly Jews were persecuted in the past and all the world knows their pain and instead of being the first to speak and protect human rights they have became the persecutors. It gives me such a weird feeling honestly. I saw a jew that was speaking against the Israel policy once and I realized that this is a politixal regime product. Centuries after they will be remembered with shame. I just wish they can find peace and live as human beings regardless of what they are Israelis or Palestinians.

Palestine and Arab countries along with other muslim countries of the world should approach China and Russia to join them and organize a allies group which will help Palestine to get their places back from Israel and dissolve this issue and arab nations who has oil and gas must come together and must give a clear message to US, UK and European countries that if they don't returns Palestinians their acquired places by Israel along with withdraw Israel state from middle east region or else arab countries will not give them oil and gas furthermore with cancellation of all bilateral relationship with those countries. The fate of the Palestinians has always been in their own hands. If they had wanted peace and land they would have peace and land. But they have always chosen war and so they have neither peace nor land. You can't blame the leaders for what the people themselves have chosen. Choosing war has always been a dead end for them, a blind alley that leads nowhere. As I see it, there are only two choices for the Palestinians - choose peace or emigrate.
