Using the clear tubing to remove and install the glow plugs instead of a 60-80$ special tool from the dealership is genius

I couldn’t see the difference between the old slip gears and the new ones holding up to the sun. But now my truck starts nicely in the cold. Before it needed a couple of hours plugged in with block heater. I’m in Manitoba so this is serious. I’m very happy that this $150 part worked. Don’t strip your sae bolts with the impact on the installation like I did. Not a big deal.

Keep your 7.3 as long as you can afford to. It's that last engine Ford made that was bullet proof and reliable to 1 million miles. The rest of the truck would die before the engine ever will.

Yes sir! Doing that! Found an 02 F250 a few years back, had ~ 240K miles. Has ~305K now, had to replace high pressure pump, radiator, water pump, oil cooler, intercooler couplings, etc, & wondering now when the glow plugs or tranny go out, haha, but I use her everyday for work. Also threw on a DP Tuner chip. Wish I could afford some exhaust action, but truck pulls soooo much better with that DP chip.

ONLY use motorcraft glow plugs!!!! Other brands are known for swelling up. Orlieys sells motorcraft glow plugs. If you have one that's stuck spay so pb blaster or kroil oil work it in and out. Don't go johnny Rambo on it. If you can change spark plugs you can do this. If you take the breather off it won't go back on the orings need to be replaced. Check you wire harness too the have a tendency to rest on the valve cover and over time you'll get wire chafing which leads to an injector Miss fire. You can put a price of heater hose around the loom and tape it up . The problem seems more one the driver side. I would also replace glow plugs realy with a Ford one. California emmison truck have a glow plugs controller they pretty solid which if it fails the bitch won't start unless it warm or plugged in. Also in spect your harness connection on the valve cover gasket they may have burnt connectors there are repair connectors out there. BTW if you've never done it worse case 7 hours and if you've done it before about 4 hours. The IDI are cake there no inter cooler pipes in the way. Good video and yes the hose trick is a must ! Been there done that still stroking 342k.

Great video. You should test with a meter if any of the glow plugs work or not first. I have two that seemed dead and I heard that if even one doesn’t it can cause it. Bill has a Powerstroke video on lower oil pump which would be the next stage step if this doesn’t fix it. That’s a little bigger more expensive job, but doable.

Great video. was wondering how much work it would be to get in there and change the plugs and wiring. Mine won't start unless plugged in below 8 C. One thing I did read about the crankcase breather is that once your remove them it is difficult to get them to seal again.
I also have slow oil leak on top somewhere, as it collects on top of the engine, and runs to the back and down on the ground. I am thinking valve covers maybe leaking, or the turbo charger. I had to replace the turbo a few years go, as the bearings had started to go.

For anyone doing this or about to, go to your local dealership and buy oem. The aftermarket gaskets and glow plugs are garbage. Stick with motorcraft and be done with it. Should be around $80-90 per gasket, and around $15 a plug. Pricey but well worth knowing it will last
