As a sound designer, I nearly had a heart attack when I saw this notification. Thank you, Dunkey, for highlighting the importance of something that most people don’t even think about while playing a game. Although, in fairness, if they’re not thinking about the sound while playing a game, that means the sound designers did their job right.
I appreciate the Sounddesign of every Game. Without it the Game would be dull and unfun. Without Sounddesign Great Visual Effects like an Atomic Breath from Godzilla would be reduced to just a Ray of light. Game Worlds would be lifeless without Sound. Sound is absolutely important. You have a great Job.
Thank you Dunkey. I was not aware of video games sounds until this video! Can't wait to try and see if I can notice them next time I play a video game.
My sister loves the sound of Luigi walking in Luigi's Mansion. It's very important for a game's sounds to make feel relaxed so that you can have a better experience with it and not feel frustrated when hearing the same sounds over and over.
The silence is really important. Outer Wilds does this really well. When you crash your ship or fall through the black hole and find yourself drifting in space and all you can hear is the sound of your character breathing... it's so perfect!
Outer Wilds has one of the best soundtracks and uses it so spectacularly. Every planet has their own sound. There's moments of silence and then moments of perfectly placed noise. The Echoes DLC really shines in this. That first intro into the new area where you just get hit with that orchestra track out of nowhere, so beautiful. Choosing to be vague as to not spoil things obviously.
Outer Wilds is the game I thought of immediately when silence came up in the video. No game I've ever played made me feel so much like an astronaut. Genuinely breathtaking at times. I remember the first few times of coasting through Dark Bramble, trying to be completely still and silent while coasting on momentum alone, terrified of alerting the anglerfish. Just perfect
As a sound designer myself - I feel like I have learnt a lot from Mr Winslow's approach and will now feature many of his techniques in my future endeavors

I agree. A lot of the times when I have reflected on games I have enjoyed, I’ve realised that it was the sound that was primarily responsible for building the immersion.
Playing through Breath of the Wild was the first time I think I actively appreciated the sound design of a game. The snowy areas, especially. It felt so serene. Then, years later, I came across Scruffy's channel and he made me appreciate the sound design so much more. The difference in footsteps in the snow depending on the weather honestly blew me away. Although, in fairness, if they’re not thinking about the sound while playing a game, that means the sound designers did their job right.
Man. Same. As an audio engineer I feel so damn seen. Thank you dark souls.
I thought about the sounds in donkey Kong country as a kid because I really loved them.
@@jjdunne6969 me too :)
Thats crazy, I had no idea that sound designers were prone to notification based heart attacks
Really enjoyed this new type of content, a mastermind as always. Keep it up.
3:37 whenever I see a mech stage from SA2 I just hear a bunch of beeps and Tails saying "okay!" a trillion times
Thank you Dunkey. I was not aware of video games sounds until this video! Can't wait to try and see if I can notice them next time I play a video game.
Dumbo is a legend, he's explaining everything for us
They
Ight exist
i eght axist
This actually applies to me when I watch someone share their interpretation of a story
I usually play games with construction grade soundproof headphones on.
My sister loves the sound of Luigi walking in Luigi's Mansion. It's very important for a game's sounds to make feel relaxed so that you can have a better experience with it and not feel frustrated when hearing the same sounds over and over.
It's such a weird but solid detail, I have to agree. Luigi's Mansion has probably one of the best sound designs in all of gaming
This is heartwarming. Thanks Michael and thank you Dunkey.
I seen this guy once and you just never forget about him. I always imagine this guy and his talent. There is no other.
Drifting in space, only hearing your breath, staring at the sun as the music starts to play. Beautiful.
When you're traveling to a planet in a new loop and the banjo kicks in.... Mastapeece
outer wilds sucks play a real game lol
As a sound designer myself - I feel like I have learnt a lot from Mr Winslow's approach and will now feature many of his techniques in my future endeavors
How often will you be inserting 'Knack is Back?'
This was awesome, thank you. Foley/Sound design impact so much of our content.
I've been into video game sound for so long. Great to see a video on it from you.
I could watch a full 4 hour director's cut documentary of Dunkey and Winslow explaining sounds.
Actually, it wasn’t even Michael Winslow, it was actually his little brother.
Man, I'm so glad that Michael Winslow supports smaller upcoming channels like this one.
Very generous of him, shows true character.
I hope dunkey does more movie reviews at some point, definitely my favorite youtuber, every video he puts out I watch immediately, thank you for making the best videos on the site you internet using donkey
Sound design along with fitting music is very, very important for games. I'm glad others feel the same.
7:08 out of all the sounds Michael Winslow can make, his impression of a playboy carti adlib is by far the most impressive
🤣 bruuuuhhhhh im so done
lmfao
YEEEEAAAAAHHHH
Couldn't stop myself from laughing everytime Micheal interrupted Dunkey with some weird ass random sounds. Lmfao
Dunkey should have expected this when getting the man. YOU WILL LET MICHAEL DO HIS CRAFT OR YOU WILL PERISH
I have a feeling that was deliberate. I think they call this comedy. 😂
Those sounds were neither random nor weird-ass. Micheal Winslow is a trainted professional and very experienced in the sound
It's almost like it was comedically edited to be like that or something
@@xSenwar Oh wow, you guys are really smart. It was intended all along?!??
Obviously I'm aware of that, all I was saying is that I couldn't stop myself from laughing everytime it happened.
This is now my favorite UA-cam video of all time. Thank you very much Dunk.Master
ive watched this video so many times, just for the sounds Michael is making XD
As a sound-designer.. thank you for shining a light on my (ever so underrated and overshadowed) job 🎶
Unless you’re Michael Winslow, are you really a sound designer?
Same 😭😭😭 everyone forgets about the sound
No you lying. Michael Winslow is the only sound designer ever exists.
Sound design is incredibly important. Just look at Inside, that game had such great sound design
@@snipergod5216 You can thank Martin Stig Andersen for that one. Absolutely incredible sound designer.
Sound and Music matter SO much in games. But only Dunkey can deliver such an important message to the masses by working with M Winslow!
Oh shit! ACG in the comments! Love your work man!
Yooo the best reviewer out there
always loved the Sound, Music and Voice section in your reviews.
Long time dunkey fan. Can’t stop coming back to this video. Great work
I agree. A lot of the times when I have reflected on games I have enjoyed, I’ve realised that it was the sound that was primarily responsible for building the immersion.
It took me years to realize one of the most important factors of Half LIfe 2 was the sound design.
how so
@@ABRBD Play the game
100% agreed ...its one of the things that made that game and the franchise as a whole, epic.
@@mateuszmateuszowy The videos from RescoeZ also show how impressive the sound design is, especially how much effort they put into it.
@@mateuszmateuszowy i have finished it many times
Sound design is undoubtedly the most underappreciated aspect of any piece of media, because if it's done well, no one will notice it!
Dude to me sound design is a hella important like it feels good

4:27 Mr. Winslow actually perfectly recreated the Earthbound "WOW" sound effect there.
Perfect! Lol

Yeah its crazy
Playing through Breath of the Wild was the first time I think I actively appreciated the sound design of a game. The snowy areas, especially. It felt so serene. Then, years later, I came across Scruffy's channel and he made me appreciate the sound design so much more. The difference in footsteps in the snow depending on the weather honestly blew me away. It's one of my favorite games, and, apparently, the sound design helps that immensely
That is so amazing that you got to do a collab with Michael Winslow. That is so flipping sick
