- Alternator damaged by oil leaking from dipstick not reinstalled at oil change. When filling with oil oil will leak from the dipstick hole contaminating the alternator and causing failure. Also leaving the dipstick out will allow the oil to leak out onto the alternator while driving causing alternator failure.
Not following proper procedures while doing this type of work could cause more problems. Any questions please ask. Please subscribe too. Thanks
Thanks! Just what I needed. My only suggestion would be to mention the bolt sizes as you go to save a little time BEFORE you get on the ground.
I would've added the belt removal. Thank you for the video!
You took one of the most difficult Nissan jobs and made it simple by dropping the AC Comp. I have watched dozens of videos and everyone does it that hard way (remove the fan, radiator, hoses, etc). I have a 2008 Nissan Quest. Same set up and Murano. In fact, the 2004 - 2009 Nissan Quest, 2005-06 Altima, 2005-07 Maxima, and maybe more, have the same set up..
Cool thanks for watching
Thank you so much!! I'm getting ready to do my 09, and your video was the best tutorial I've seen on it yet! Great job!
Thanks Chris. I own a 2006 Murano and a recently I paid a friend with a service garage to replace the alternator. He took it out the top way charging me 4 hours of labor. The A and battery cost me over 400 in parts totaling over 800 for the job. In disturbing the A/C compressor the "O" rings were damaged creating a 2nd job of $150 for 1 1/2 hours, totaling almost $1000 with 5 1/2 hours of labor. I could have purchased an A for $90 to $220, that verses $1000. Thank you for your tutorial. I'm late but I learn.
That was a bear just finished mine. Couldn’t have done it without your help so THANK YOU
Awesome work and very patient being the key to a stressless removal without further damage to any other parts
Great no nonsense video this is the fourth one I have watched. Thank you
What's the deal with that front bolt the long-boltfor the alternator that has the rounded front nut. My socket won't even get a good grip on that nut
Thank you so much for this video it was so insightful and not to mention how you took us step by step on this procedure. We really appreciate that effort on demonstrating the most effective way of getting this done.
Thank you
Love your attitude! No sarcasm. "Thanks Nissan."
Thanks so much for this, just finished replacing mine. This made it so much easier!
I just replaced an alternator out of a Nissan Quest. It came out behind the AC compressor out the bottom. The replacement alternator was slightly larger. I had to remove the radiator and shroud. It was easier to remove the radiator. Took far less time for me.
Great detail and camera angles were perfect.
Great video. I am 3 days of 95 deg heat. Just taking it 1 day at a time at this point. The nut on the bolt with a J hook is giving me grief.
The one I have fees like the bold is stuck at the very end....
Awesome video you explained things in detailed and practically held our hand the whole way; I really loved the video you now have a new subscriber.
Thank you for the generous comment.
You rock. A simple accurate process to follow. Great job my friend.
Thank you Chris your video helped me out a bunch
Thanks so much Chris for your very helpful video
best video . great job. congratulations. mi respects to you.
Mission accomplished! The small coolant hose near the the wiring harnesses kept getting in the way. Drained out just a little bit of coolant but it made life so much easier. I’ve got it high enough on jackstands so I could bleed the coolant. Thanks again! Your video was helpful. I was a Nissan specialists technician in the late 90s. Boy things have changed! All the best!
Great work, yup things have changed
Thanks for the video...best one out there....could not have done this job without it...thanks again
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video, am getting ready to replace mine this weekend. Very informative and easy to understand!
Thanks bud. Really helpful. Made the job so much easier.
Ironically I had many leaks on my car before I learned how to work on cars. But because of that my subframe is 17 years old and looks new. lol. To this day I rub the old oil on any metal like subframe, LCAs,etc. I live in northeast. Rust never sleeps
Thanks alot bro i really needed to watch this fix mine in the am
Best way I've seen it done great video
Thanks for watching
Thank you so much for your very BEAUTYFUL JOB !
Looks like a good job well done. 👍 I think the taking of the video was good too.
your input is going to be very helpful, I will tackel this job in the am. p/s hopw the ail. plug is ok
Yes i did that on my 09 murano when it was 4 years old, it was a pain in the butt taking out that alternator and putting the new one back in. Unfortunately I replaced my alternator couple more times due to failing aftermarket part.
Same here, I had to do it twice
It helped me realize I really don't wanna change one!!! But oh well gotta do it lol 😆
Yup it's a tight fit but it is possible to do. Just take your time. Good luck
Thanks a lot this video is awesome helped me a ton
Thanks for watching
Thank you for this walk through!
Cool. Thanks for watching
My maxima was similar and this helped
Awesome video.
Hey Brother great video thanks for sharing
This is so helpful, thank you!!!!
Finagle that alternator is a pain. Updown left right spin, until it comes out.
Thanks for the video 😍 😍😍 😍😍 😍 it's wads a good video but not easy at the bottom thanks
Literally the only way i could get it out is ass first 😂😂, great detail man 😭
What's the deal with the longboat in the front of the alternator with the rounded nut on it I can't find the right socket to fit it you keep slipping off
@@keithallman3673 there’s a nut on the front side of it, sorry for the late reply my man.
I did all this but except , I did have to take the upper hose so I could have room to remove the alternator bolt and the connector.
We hoped that this same method would work on a 2008 Nissan Quest. Nope. The frame in the engine bay is different from the Murano and blocks the possibility of removing it through the wheel well. Had to do the normal routine, remove fan, radiator, etc.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.
Thanks for the video
Man this is helping a lot. Finally got the top bolt out from watching you. Any suggestions on the bottom alternator bolt? I can get to it fine but it ain’t budging even with 1/2 inch impact wrench.
Take the pinch bolt out and wiggle it around a bit. You will need a impact socket and a long break bar to get it loose. It's in a tight place take your time it will come out.
@@chriskolar my old wimpy breaker bar wasn’t budging it. Ran to Rural King and got a 2ft breaker bar, that did the trick! Thanks again couldn’t have gotten it without your video and tips.
@@Pharmgatr01 cool
I wanted to thank you for this video!!! It helped tremendously!! I can imagine some men with big hands have to do it the hard way by taking off the fans and radiator. This was a life saver!! #gurlzfixincarz
Sweet, glad it helped
I'm in the middle of this God forsaken job right now watching this video. My wife's 2012 Murano we got it with 27,000 Mi on it and now it has about 140,000 miles, it has never had the alternator replaced. The one in your vehicle that you're removing looks almost new. I looked at the reviews for the alternators at AutoZone they had a $130 one, a $200 one, and a $300 one. The reviews on the two cheaper ones were pretty horrible. There were a lot of people who bought the $200 one and had it fail either immediately or not long after, that is why I went ahead and got the $300 one because it had better reviews and it's new not rebuilt.
You need to fix the leak on that air compressor so it's not running all the time.
Yea the compressor pop off valve is leaking. I ordered a new one.
Good job, good video
nice job
Gonna try it thanks
Thanks for watching
I replaced many many alternators form the smallest cars to the largest trucks and the Murano was the biggest pain in the ass by far It was a nightmare
I know right, what was Nissan thinking
2010 Nissan Murano 3.5L
The procedure is 90% from the passenger wheel well.10% bottom for long alternator bolt and 2-rear A/c compressor bolts...1st remove the small plastic splash shield exposing crank pulley area.....Then loosen the front lower longer wheel opening shield partially and bend back propping it on top of brake rotor out of the way. I lowered a/c compressor and just held it down a little pressure to remove alternator and again on installation....the hardest part of this job.....the top alternator mounting bolt re-installation. I will have to say my new
808-15-25 1/4" Long Reach AIR Ratchet 15.3" made a quick job of tightening it.
The alternator electrical 3-wire connector cracked to pieces....
.Amazon $7 Zreneyfex Alternator Regulator Plug Harness Lead Repair 'Pigtail' 3 Wires Regulator Plug
Red....ign power (closest wire to radiator)
Green...12v batt (Center wire)
Black...to ECM (rear closest to engine)
Where did you end up getting the replacement plug?
From the alternator rebuild shop
You definitely need a like and a subscribe, I never heard one cuss word.
When I looked and just seen were it was, oh lordy, hold ya ears and I aient even broke a wrench out yet.
My mouth was calm but my mind was running ragged on Nissan for putting the alternator there.
I know you said the plug melted but is that all melted plastic? It sort of looks like someone attempted to silicone the old plug harness in place.
I'm looking at your video because I just got a call to look at one of these and the customer says the mounting bolts fell out of the alternator. She had one put on she said about 2 years ago. Have you heard of this on that model? Most alternators have some sort of locking flange nuts or bolts to prevent this. Anyway, I'll be looking at this car tomorrow.
It was repaired previously. I did not do the repair. The oil caused more damage and degrading. I have not noticed loose bolts or heard of that kind of problems.
What size sockets you use. I need a list
Metric sockets and hand wrenches 10mm to 18mm
I love these $400 in labor jobs! People get mad about the price like it's my fault they bought a POS Nissan. 😂 I've also noticed that 90% of them are wrecked by a woman so it's even harder to do when the front end is smashed in.
Please what's the size or number of the fan belt

What year of this nissan murano was you working on in this video?? Thank you
2009
Se nesesita kitar el clima u vaciar el aire condicionado..esk bi otro video donde lo sacaron por arriba si mober el compresor ...
Hi! How long approximately did this take for you? I believe this is the problem with my murano currently and I want to make sure the labor quote is correct with this shop. Living in a new area and I’m hoping they don’t charge me more than necessary
It's about 2 hours.
Yes, be careful. I have a Shop in Sal Lake City quoting me 6-7 hours labor on a 2009 Murano. That’s such a bogus time. Total job is $1,140. I can get the part, good quality for $189.
Shops that see women coming in and taking advantage are frustrating!
@@BBB-rd2qi Thank you for watching my video. Always get a few quotes before committing to a repair. The shops quote from a estimated time that is required to do the work. A good mechanic can always complete a job in less than quoted time. That's how the mechanic makes good money. Sometimes there are problems like stripped or rusted bolts that are a nightmare and will totally blow a job.
@@chriskolar - Thank you so much for responding! Your information is appreciated!
New sub here!
thanks
I have to replace my plug just like you do you know which wire goes where brown, yellow, blue?
I made another video that has the wiring pinout
ua-cam.com/video/DtFQKXn5yro/v-deo.html
Need to show how to get that top alternator bolt in. 😡
Ac compressor went out right before the alternator on 2009 Nissan Murano. No current to ac compressor, replaced fuse box and battery fuse holder , still nothing
Need a scanner to check the commanded state of the compressor. It is computer controlled.
May I respectfully ask your credentials? We want to bring a case against the shop that didn't replace our dipstick...
The person that owned the car attempted litigation with Walmart to no avail.
I saw you’re alternator pigtail video didn’t understand fully I see here you have the same wires the grey yellow and purple how would I re wire them to a new plug please help
If you go further into the wire harness where it is wrapped up you will see the wire colors easily. I think you are getting confused because the colors are not matching.
@@chriskolar can I send you a picture or call you
@@chriskolar it’s just it’s because I got a new plug and they have red black and green wires I’m just lost I can fix stuff but when it comes to the wiring yeah no haha
The info is there in the video. If you connect the wires as described it will work.
Thxs
Hello, how can I know the real alternator. Mine is seriously damage
Use vehicle identification number to identify. Call the any Nissan dealer and get the amps output and part number. You can compare the part number to what's available on ebay or Rockauto, they have good pictures.
@@chriskolar sorry. What's the initial amps
Amps is the output of the alternator. Power level
@@chriskolar sorry. Are you on WhatsApp or Facebook??
@@chriskolar I'm not able to get the alternator in my location, is there any other Nissan alternator which will work in replace?
Is this expensive
If you buy a new alternator yea it's a pricy item. If you get it rebuilt it's around $100. Find a rebuilder in your area. They are out there. Sometimes they have a unit already rebuilt and you can swap it. Otherwise you may wait a day or so. If I take apart a vehicle for major service I will offer having the alternator rebuilt. It's already off and it saves money in the end.
God bless our beloved dear
May Allah increase you from his bounty
I love my 2006 Nissan Murano
I mixed oil on my car. Do I have to take out the machine and the gear outside the car?
It is useless to change the head without the machine and the gear outside the car
Because I asked a mechanic to say that the machine and the gear must come out of the car
What is your opinion
Thank you
Mixed transmission fluid and engine oil? If so you will need to drain all the fluid. Put new oil in engine. The transmission is different. All the incorrect oil must be removed. Remove the transmission cooling line and drain all oil. You may need to full it and run it then drain it a few times.
Looks like the coolant hose isnt there
What year this car is ?
2009
I'm having trouble disconnecting the alternator connection.
The room is tight, and I'm not sure how to unclip that thing.
Any idea anyone?
It's a tight one. If you must cut the wires and splice it back after you get it unplugged.
@@chriskolar Ah...that's a great simple idea!!
But how do you get the belt off? It's like you missed some steps . I don't see how this is informative.
I did not show how to take the tire off either, or the fender liner. If the video is too long you would not watch it. The title does not mention the belt. I am sure there are many videos about the belt. Don't give up so easily.
Hello
I don't know why people never post the year of the vehicle, there are multiple generations of the same model. 🙄🙄
2009
Thanks Nissan lol
Worst Japanese vehicle to work on . Very poor engineering. Uses many odd bolts socket sizes.
