Say what you want about the prequels, but Ian McDiarmid's portrayal of Palpatine was amazing. Fantastic actor and you can really see him having fun while portraying the future Emperor.
***** Indeed. In fact they should have elaborate more on those Sith dudes, since they are more interesting than this Jedi nonsense. Btw I think that part 2 was a good movie amongst the 3 prequels.
apotheos1s Amen. And, what's more, how amazing to know that Ian McDiarmid, as a younger man in 1983, portrayed Palpatine for the very first time as a very old emperor in Return of the Jedi, then sixteen years later (and sixteen years older) played the exact same character as being thirty or more years younger. That is pretty amazing when you think about it. Watch episodes 1 through 6 in their proper sequence and the performance proceeds so smoothy it is amazing.
Also having Jar Jar in on the meeting regarding the clone army. Here's why. Jar Jar was asked by Padme to represent naboo in her place. He also saw first hand the danger the trade federation can pose. He put forward the motion to give palpatine emergency powers, which was voted on and won. Jar Jar pretty much gave palpatine the power to begin the clone wars, and start the downfall of the jedi and the republic.
7:14 That was always the part that got me. He declares the Republic dead, and himself Emperor, takes away their freedom....and they actually cheered him for it. That was the moment you realize just how brilliantly he manipulated everything.
@@Gu53cUa dude, but do you seriously not see why they bash two prequels? The first of two prequels had no main focus on specific characters, And both were full of pointless cgi and had about 70 min of council speech altogether written by a terrible dialogue writer George Lucas. The reason this video makes prequel look good is BECAUSE THEY GOT RID OF 4 HOUR WORTH OF POINTLESS SCENES. Also, every adults by now knows how bad Lucas is at taking scenes that are not fight related. The lightings, camera angle, a SUBTLE messages conveyed by dialogues can deepen both the characters and the plot of the movie, but none of the prequels had that. Take an example of a conversation between quaigon and child anakin skywalker. After camera focuses on a cgi animal lazily yawning for some reason..., anakin just blurts out he built c3po. Quigon never asked that, so why did he suddely say this?
Snoke doesn't even compare. Palpatine was such an elaborate, Machiavellian-type character that calmly manipulated events in his favor, whereas this Snoke guy just shows up out of nowhere, seizes power, and then dies.
@Austin Garner why put effort in and write a good script when you know you're guaranteed billions of dollars just off of brand recognition & brand loyalty alone?
lynx 15 You mean Snoke? He did sit in that chair, didn’t move one inch, and the only way he left was Kylo killing the guy, finally showing a Sith Apprentice offing his Master on screen. He may still have anger issues, but I’m looking forward to seeing those Sith Troopers (Yes, that’s what they’re called) fight alongside him. And Snoke is NOT Darth Plaugies, despite How It Should Have Ended telling people otherwise. Fact, I stand with that decision the director said. The time has come for Palps to return and the Skywalker Saga’s final curtain.
Palpatine literally planed out like a 40 year long plot and EVERYTHING happened just as he planned it. Pure genius. He's the best villain in cinema history.
@@anthonymartensen3164 The prequels are actually interesting though lol. People just wanted a slightly new version of the original trilogy and they got it
Me as a child: Appreciating him as a powerful Sith and great with the force. Me as an adult: Appreciating him as a skilled politician who rose to the top via cunning and manipulation.
The best part of all this, is the fact that he is supposedly one of the most powerful force users ever, but he never uses that power in anything other than self defense. He manipulated the entire senate into becoming a galactic empire, and he did it all without a lightsaber. All other sith has tried destroying the republic and jedi by using force, and all he did was say a few words, corrupt a jedi and hire a bounty hunter, well played Sidious, well played
+TheAndersand2500 Shit I had never thought about this. Couple this with how Jedi say "only Sith deal in absolutes" makes me question who to support here. Fuck it. Dark side ftw
+TheAndersand2500 Well, something that stuck out to me was Palpatine mentioning he learned how to create new life using the force. When Anakin was a child, Palpatine was a grown man and obviously well into his sith masterhood. I think this was a message to Anakin (without Anakin realizing it) that Palpatine created him using the force.
+michamus Well he indirectly did. In the books, Sidious and his master tried to use their powers to change the nature of the force to tilt the scale in their favour. The force responded against them by creating anakin.
+Joseph Ong Plagues recognized this the moment he heard of Anakin. I'm sure if plagues would of successfully met up with him that Anakin would of been dead. Vader was The emperors greatest mistake and it cost him his life.
I actually enjoy the Prequels the most out of all 3 sagas. There's more of a complex side of politics as compared to the black and white in the original trilogy, and this perfectly captures how a cunning politician pulled all the strings leading up to the war. The argument that the politics are boring is old. You can't have a war without politics. Also these politics led to some of the best battles in the entire series with the Jedi and Clones.
Can we all just appreciate the dedication this actor had for the role of Darth Sidious? 3 movies over the course of decades and he stayed in complete consistent character the whole time.
BLK MN Ian without a doubt nailed it amazing brilliant actor he definitely stayed In his role that’s why am sure was chosen for this role just love this villain character.
Sheev Palpatine I think it’s hilarious that the Jedi had so many warnings and opportunities to annihilate Sidious but their dogma and arrogance led to their extermination. Definition of “stick up their ass”.
The scariest thing about Palpatine is that you could take all of his force powers away and pretty much nothing would have changed, he did all of this with just how smart and manipulative he is
Buddy use your brain, he needed the force to manipulate those around him, they weren’t idiots they also were either just as or a bit less smarter than he was and as manipulative, being politicians after all. But definitely couldn’t achieve all that without it.
@@fernandorodriguez876Completely agree. You could literally just point out the fight with Windu as a sole reason. If he didn't have the force or a Lightsaber, what could he really have done? Even then he lost but using the force manipulating anakin saved him at the very last moment
Yea, but generally most media follows the warriors and not the politicians so that's what most people are used to. It still comes down to opinion and your condescending tone doesn't make you any superior to people who don't like these movies or the political aspects of them. For the record I love it all besides the podracing bits. I generally hate any kind of race scene though.
@Zach The CGI hasn't aged well even in Revenge of the Sith, a lot of the writing is very laughable, the delivery of a lot of the actors can be pretty bad at times (whether that's the fault of the actors or director is up to debate), the plot is contrived and full of conveniences, Anakin turns way too fast, the only weight from the plot comes from the years of expanded stuff like the Clone Wars and previous Star Wars nostalgia. Prequels only became a meme because they were so bad that they're good. Not because they were genuinely good and compelling.
By the time the Jedi were aware the man who had been running the Republic for a decade was the Sith Master they had been seeking, it was far too late. All that time, all throughout the Clone Wars and for years beforehand, he had been playing both sides against the middle. Every maneuver, every stratagem fit perfectly into place. The galaxy was his, and nobody could stop him. The Emperor always has been and always will be the greatest villain in movie history, manipulative on a level that even Machiavelli couldn’t have imagined possible. Ian McDiarmid IS Palpatine, and nobody else will ever do the character justice.
Most definitely. Unfortunately the Jedi were way too dedicated to fighting with the Republic in the clone wars and fighting the Trade Federation/Separatists that they didn’t even realize that their enemy the Sith Lord was blinding them. Though they could sense that they’re was a Sith Lord to be caught, they thought that he was with the Separatist, which at the time he also was, and thinking that Count Dooku was their enemy but he was just a mislead Jedi, but even he knew that the Republic was being controlled by Sidious/ Palpatine. Basically the only Jedi aware of the possibility of corruption was Qui Gon, Dukoo, and even Yoda. Qui Gon would of helped Anakin, Obi Wan, and the rest of the Jedi along with the Jedi council to be more aware of their surroundings. Imagine the turn around of the entire situation if Qui Gon was never killed.
Little that everyone knows, Palpatine was still an apprentice to Darth Plagueis during the first film. He killed Plagueis on the night of his election as supreme chancellor.
Resist Zionism plagueis most likely didn’t know about *darth* maul, or any of palpitine plans. You have to remember that palpitine has everything planned from the start.
Nobody considers the name Sheev to be legit it’s random af and not befitting of Palpatine. Naboo is supposed to be Star Wars Italy so why is his name sheev?
sceluk I’m no so sure. I don’t get how it took so long to realise that palpating was the one fucking shit up. Also it would have been fun if there were some court intrigue, everybody is lying to each other and shit
Don't worry, if he managed to survive being thrown down a reactor shaft, having the death star exploding around him, and then getting ejected into the cold vacuum of space, I'm sure he survived MaRey Sue's lightning reflection. After all, he did want her to kill him. He got exactly what he wanted, so I'm sure he'll be fine.
don parker No, The Last Jedi sucked because, wait.. actually it didn’t suck, it was pretty fucking great to me. Also luke isn’t dead, he’s joined yoda and obi wan as a force ghost as would be appropriate since the story isn’t about him anymore
This was incredibly well done! Funny. As a kid, I didn’t have a clue wtf was going on politically. I just knew there were tons of bad guys to be killed and awesome fights to come with that lol
Palpatine was a clever evil politician. He know who the dumb politicians were, he knew who the smart politicians were. He knew he had to get Padme out of the way so someone else would take her place in the senate (which happened to be Jar Jar). That's why Dooku was assigned the task of killing Padme. He also needed Qui-Gon out of the way because Qui-Gon would have caught on to the deception. That's why Darth Maul was important.
+kaizoisevil Good point. So that means that it was all part of the plan. Palpatine didn't care about anyone, not even Darth Vader. They were all just his pawns, so i'm guessing if Luke turned, he eventually would had been replaced too.
oh really? If luke believed the same lies as Darth Vader did? Did Darth Vader destroy the emperor? NOPE. Only through his love for Luke did he destroy the emperor.
Now get your 7'2" manic ass back here or I'm gonna tell everyone what a whiny bitch you were about padamame, or panda bear or whatever the hell her name is. "Oh guys. He's crying"...
Hey, hey, hey, hey, c'mon. C'mon, don't do that. Just- just... Look, I- y'know, I'm just dealing with a lot'a crap right now; the Death Star blown up by a bunch of fucking teenagers, know... I didn't mean to snap. O-ok-Just get back here. Okay? Okay, bye. ...I-... I love you too...
This is why I will never accept the sequel trilogy. Rey did not do anything to deserve the right to end Palpatine, Anakin Skywalker will always the true saviour of the galaxy. He was there since the beginning when Palpatine took over, he fought with the victom of Palpatine rise power (the Jedi, the clones, etc) He lead the clones that he cared for and his friends and the rest of galaxy. In the end the man that saw it all since the beginning and the man that suffered thought it all ended it rightly by his hands
It was Luke... Anakin was vader deep inside or he was a failure who succumbed to the dark side... Many jedi masters have gone through worst like kenobi but they still managed to sticked with the light side... Anakin/vader was the villain of the story and the puppet of sidious it was Luke who was the true saviour of galaxy
Facts . And no it wasn’t Luke . It was them both together , luke alone was not strong enough to defeat the emperor ( and neither was Vader ) but together : luke offered Anakin an opening and he didn’t miss it . Anakin is the hero and the villain , the fallen yet the savior .
Well, there is more appropriate idea, I think. Disney Star Wars ARE canon... in some parallel universe, where Luke is a jerk, Palpatine is an idiot, force users don't need to study, etc. Original universe still has a normal happy ending.)
If Lucas nailed episode 1 and 2 by getting better scripts and characters/actors the prequals would've been sick, you may not agree with me but I think the storyline of the prequals is better than the originals
+William Russell His ideas for these ones where more complex I LOVE the fact that SPOILER ALERT (Seriously if this is a spoiler for you why are you here?) Palpatine was playing both sides that idea just blew my MIND
Attack of the Clones is the ONLY Star Wars film I came close to hating! My least favorite and my favorite Star Wars movies are right next to each other. It's sad really Episode 2 had SO MUCH potential!
I know that but I personally wasn't let down by Episode 1 or 3. To be fair though I had no idea TPM was a prequel originally. Though I understand why people dismiss even the best prequel I've heard it all before and I no longer care. Okay I do care but I had enough negative fan boy opinions to last me 3 lifetimes.
Prequels Palpatine: evil mastermind who carefully used manipulation and long term planning to destroy the Republic from within and transform it into his own Empire Disney Palpatine: I aM aLl ThE sItH
Also Disney Palpatine: *dies from his own lightning* And also Disney Palpatine: *Announces his return to everyone* And again Disney Palpatine: *Starts a whole bloody ritual before Rey could just kill him for Sidious to possess her* And again Disney Palpatine: *Insert any single flaw of his here*
But prequel Palpatine looks very weak when it comes to force , what did he do? Throw around a few tons of senate pods? Disney Palpatine destroyed entire fleet with ease, crub stomped Kylo and Rey together( same Rey that can easily lift tousends of tons of rock) with ease while weakend corpse, so yeah Disney made him far more powerful than he was in previous moves, and in ROS he alredy had large amry under his command, if Rey was not amped by evrey single Jedi that ever lived he would take back Galaxy, here he did not need manipulation and even if he wanted to use it he could not because you know, he is no longer unknown good Chenchelor Palpatine, war hero, no, now prety much evreyone knows he is the evil emperor, new republic told that to anyone after they came to power, so taking control of the galaxy by force was his only option, so you cannot compare sequels and prequels Palpatine because in sequels entire galaxy thought he was an old good dude and now evreyone knew who he really was so he needed difirnet tactic, and he would succeed if Rey did not have plot armor and got amped by evrey Jedi that ever lived
@@darkomarkovic9323 Disney just used lazy writing. Palpatine in the prequels is a more impressive villain becasue he's actually smart and knows what he's doing. Disney made him a cliche cartoon villain by artificially making him "stronger" but taking away what made him interesting in the first place. He could still pull the strings behind the scenes without letting people know he is involved or that he is even alive, like he supposedly was doing before by using Snoke, but instead he just goes and tells the whole galaxy "sup bitches? I'm back! Try to stop me! MUAHAHAHAHA!" like an idiot. Yeah, he has a large army, but where the hell did he get it from? In the prequels it makes sense because he is the Chancellor of the Republic so he has control of the Republic's army and he is also secretly Darth Sidious which means he controls the Separatists as well, but in the sequels he just has a whole bunch of upgraded imperial Star Destroyers that popped out of nowhere plus loads of people to serve as crews on those ships and soldiers. Why does he have that? Because he's the villain and he needs minions, that's why. He doesn't earn his status as an awesome villain, the writers just count on the name "Palpatine" to be a good enough reason to do whatever they want with the character. The whole sequel trilogy is just Disney milking Star Wars name recognition for money without doing any of the things that made people like Star Wars in the first place. If Palpatine was always the kind of character he is in ROS, he wouldn't be as popular and memorable as he is. None of the characters feel like they're done right, even the ones that were created specifically for the sequels, becasue the whole time you can see even the writers themselves don't agree with each other on what each character should be like and where the story should go. There is no coherent narrative to this trilogy, they just made things up on the fly and the result is a total mess that doesn't make any sense. There are fan-fiction stories with better writing and more consistency with the source material than the sequel trilogy. Disney Star Wars is bad fan-fiction.
@@sheev9959 I did watch PQ, OT and TFA, and Last Jedi and just because i dont have the same opinion as you does not mean i am delusional, i just dont hate Disney for everything and always look for reasons to complain, as for good arguments, nothing i siad was wrong Did ROS make Palpatine far more powerful than he was in prequels and OT? Yes, that is an objective fact, he destroyed the entire fleet with his lightning Was Rey amped by evrey Jedi that ever lived when she beat Palpatine? Yes, that is an objective fact as well, did you watch a movie or read ROS novel? If you did then you know that she was amped Could Palpatine agian manipulate his way to the top after decades of the republic rule where evreyone knew that he was evil sith lord? No, he could not, that is why he had no option but to take galaxy by force like he tired in ROS and dark empire comics, in prequels evreyone thought he was just good old dude, that is why he could take over the galaxy with manipulation, here he could not do that, imagine if Hitler appeared today do you think that he could take over Germany with the election ? No, of course not, same is here those are just facts, while his ( Shadow of madness)only argument is MuH LaZy WrItiNG, DiSneY SuckS, FaN FiCTion. Nobady is saying that everything Disney did was good, i did not like ROS as well that much, i wanted Palpatine to win, i hate Rey, i hate what Disney did to Luke, but Palpatine himself was done right in that movie, that is my only point,
The editing in this video is brilliant! I love how Palpatine initially portrayed himself as a friendly and charming man, cleverly hiding that alter ego of Darth Sidious behind the personality of a seemingly honest and decent chancellor. From voting for a vote of no confidence in the first chancellor so he could get into power to secretly organising the creation of the clones to turn against and exterminate the Jedi... I never initially knew that Palpatine and Darth Sidious were one and the same. What an amazing villain he is...
The prequel trilogies have their good and bad, but Palpatine and Obi Wan are the best thing happen to the movies due to the great acting of each actor.
I had an Eureka moment when I discovered Palps was actually Darth Sidious, in the scene where Count Dooku returned to Coruscant delivering the Death Star plan in the end of Ep 2 Attack of the Clones. For young boy me, that's the most jaw dropping moment of cinema ever.
I must admit, I think the whole plot line was genius - having a sith in charge of both sides of the Clone Wars. Dooku for the separatists and Sidious for the Republic.
Iknowmyabds5 jar jar voted to give Palpatine unlimited powers. This allowed Palpatine to authorise the use of the clone army who would later exterminate the Jedi.
Its funny, that "dumb" character like jar jar "suddenly" decided to give Palpatine more power..... If people didnt hated Jar Jar in episode 1 so much, maybe he would become something more..... horrible.
You just don't get that nuance in the Disney films. The parallels between Caeser and Palpatine are amazing. The end of the Roman Republic and the dawn of the empire is mirrored brilliantly here, with even Caeser's death alluded to when the Jedi discover Palpatine is a Sith Lord and try and kill him. The only difference is the Brutus type figure of Anakin has a last minute change of heart and stops the assassination. It's absolutely brilliant.
What an absolutely amazing plot. I love the way it was executed, but if it were just done better, then the prequels could have been noted among the best movies ever.
Let's be honest. Though some people may prefer episode 4,5,6, we have to admit that the plot of the prequel has so much depth. Palpatine eliminating Sifo Dyas, starting the war from Naboo, rising to high chancellor, making sure that the jedi use clone troops and eventually destroying the jedi. This is one hell of a plan. It's almost ridiculous how this genius falls so easily by Luke and Anakin.
@@BedoroskiPalpatine was in control of the empire for over 2 solid decades so he naturally thought he couldn't be stopped. In fact the only reason how Vader now Anakin again was able to kill him was cause he did it for the love of his son if Vader tried to kill him with the intention of overthrowing him Palpatine would've detected it instantly
The best thing about Palpatine and why he is my favourite Star wars character? The fact he plays everyone against each other like to the point he made the Jedi play into his hands like the pawns they were. Ian McDiarmid is the man!
Remember why the Sith are more powerful than the Jedi, Sidious: because we are not afraid to feel. We embrace the spectrum of emotions, from the heights of transcendent joy to the depths of hatred and despair. Fearless, we welcome whatever paths the dark side sets us on, and whatever destiny it lays out for us.
What a brilliant master plan. Using a political ploy from the inside to achieve power, instead of claiming it from the outside as the Jedi would have expected/had been used to from the Sith in the past. The Sith outplayed the Jedi in the long term, and Palpatine reaped the benefits.
What made Palpatine so successful was his endless patience. Over the span of 40 years he went from an unknown aristocrat of an isolationist planet, to Emperor of the Galaxy.
Palpatine rise to power reminds me of that pixar short of where this old man was playing chess by himself and controlling both sides. Didn't matter who won. The old man wins at the end regardless.
George Lucas is clearly a student of history. Palpatine seems to be a well put together combination of Hitler, Stalin, Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus, Caligula and Diocletian. George also seems to have mirrored historical events when writing about Palpatines plans, for example, Order 66 is an obvious copy of the Night of the Long Knives. This is very effective, as it makes the events in an otherwise unrealistic fantasy land seem very plausible. The fans who criticised the prequels obviously knew Fuck all about the world around them to not see that
Very well said! The original six movies have aged really well, and clearly take a lot from history, various forms of spirituality across the globe, religious myths, and more. All with a sci-fi twist. Truly a masterpiece of a saga. As a kid, I just paid attention to the lightsabers, lasers, planets, action and cool designs, but, as a young adult, I can now fully appreciate everything you said here and more!
Slasher-Clips Not really. ALTHOUGH there were things that I liked from them such as the Emperor and exploring the Clone Wars. Watch the Nostalgia Critic's video. I actually agree with a lot of his points.
The only Sith lord to have ever solidified Sith rule across the galaxy. Even the most powerful sith like Revan, Malgus, and Nihilus couldn't do it. It took Darth Bane's rule of two and hundreds of years to give rise to Sidious. And Sidious finally accomplished what every Sith wanted, the complete domination of the galaxy. He killed the Jedi Order and manipulated his way to power. The OT had him as the big bad "final boss" to overcome. The prequels made him the greatest Sith lord. Meanwhile Snoke apparently doesn't plan ahead enough to keep his guards close by (like seriously they don't have ranged weapons and stood 10 feet away from his chair) or idk, sense a force ability being used right in front of him. How did he not sense Kylo turning the saber. What was he doing? Was he too focused on his wrong prediction? "Oh yes I'm so powerful with the force, now let me get this prediction completely wrong and die because I couldn't sense someone using their connection with the force." Even padawans like Ashoka have had more accurate predictions. We went from the greatest Sith Lord to a non threat. Thrawn is 100x more effective and threatening. Any of the inquisitors would be more in tune with the force. Heck a regular tactical droid would be better considering they have plans that make sense. But no, we have "guy who dies from being so pathetic he couldn't do something a padawan learner could do" and are digging up Sidious for brand recognition. And now we'll probably have the last 6 movies be pointless and have the chosen one prophecy be pointless, and have the greatest Sith lord to have ever lived be beaten by someone who spent a whopping 2 minutes training herself with a rock and then calling it a day because why master any lightsaber forms when you can baseball swing your saber like a child. What you mastered all 7 forms after decades of training? Well my whack-a-mole technique will beat you for sure.
Sith's greatest enemies were always other Sith. If you ever play SW:TOR, without revealing too much as spoilers, a lot of the Sith Inquisitor/Warrior storylines are spent undermining other Sith. If they can put their stupid internal conflicts aside, the Empire would always be stronger than the Republic.
The prequels are great films, they are just more complicated to interpret and understand the deeper meaning behind them. Which made its strong point became a weak point aswell. The original trilogy are more simple and easy to catch interest with the general audience overall.
Dude, people don't hate these films because of how complex they are. They hate them because of the bad dialogue, overused CGI, slapstick humour, and boring political talk. The only film in this trilogy I consider to be any good is Revenge of the Sith, but even that has its flaws.
Well, it is questionable.) Only some of dialogues are bad, not all of them. CGI helped Lucas to create more epic scenes. Slapstick isn't necessarily bad(and it was mostly in 1st episode). And political things... how else would you show fall of the Republic and Palpatine's manipulations?
@@iloveyourgyatttt The Original Trilogy never had CGI and it never had any political scenes. Either way, the Original Trilogy had far better dialogue, character growth, and character development. To equate the two trilogies is the same as not having watched the Original Trilogy at all. Plus, the plot was far better as well. The Prequels aren't that bad as people say, which is why I like them a little. It's just that the Original Trilogy is clearly *THE BEST* out of all trilogies.
@@maleexile9053 Too bad I feel whatever plot they make up is just going to be a safe one with no real advancement of the universe. TLJ sabotaged any real work accomplished in TFA. And showcasing the emperor is going to be indicative of the creative weakness I fear.
I'm also worried they will mess this up if they do and they don't involve Anakin defeating him for once and for all i'm going to banish this Sequel trilogy from my head canon. Also i agree Palpatine must be done justice and show he is the most powerful villain of all.
Omar Maaitah It was the government that Germany had after WW1, which was created by the winning countries (UK, US, France). Part of the peace negotiations was that the other countries created a new government for Germany. It ended up being terribly ineffective, and when the Great Depression hit (which hit Germany the worst out of all countries-they were literally using paper money as wallpaper because it was so inflationed and worthless) there was absolutely no support from the German people. This is why Hitler was able to sneak up and make himself dictator after the president died. So @Jarski is comparing the Republic to Weimar, and Empire to Third Reich (this is a very established comparison, which is why the joke is funny) :) hope I helped!
@@jukihiw Thank you, I guess a lot of memes make much more sense now to me, it's interesting how most fictional stories are based on real events, even something as ridiculous as star wars and the galactic empire.

When you watch this, you realize that the whole Star Wars storyline is just as much about the rise of Palpatine to Emperor as much as Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader
If star wars 1,2,3 (the more modern star wars with animation like this) had no jar jar. im pretty sure alot of people would like them. All i hear is "if you're a real Star Wars fan then you know only the originals are the best" but i don't think that's true
I view the Separatists as a symptom of how corrupt and weak the Republic had become. Major corporations had become powerful enough to field massive droid armies/war fleets and simply take what they wanted (with the support of many Outer Rim planets, I might add), while the Republic was near-powerless to shut it down until Obi-Wan happened upon Kamino. True, the Separatists had few ties to the Rebels of the future and were often far from being freedom fighters, but the fact that the Republic had allowed/caused them to rise up in the first place shows that the Republic was failing; they would have been steamrolled without the clones, and as we all know the clones came with some very dangerous strings attached. The Republic needed a Deus Ex Machina to save it from its own inevitable collapse, and that ultimately came at the cost of everything it once stood for. I think that's the story Lucas intended with the prequels.
All people who say "You're not a real fan of (Insert franchise here) if you like/don't like XYZ" deserve a slap to the face. I personally don't like the Prquels but love the Clone Wars TV show to death. If I see someone who like the prequels, I might disagree with them, but that doesn't change the fact that they're a fan of Star Wars
No, real fans must love all the Star Wars film. whenever is Good or Bad, you must support Star Wars and i the Originals, Prequels, Trilogy are both best
@@mrsupreme5316 A person who says "You're not a real fan of (Insert franchise here) if you like/don't like XYZ" deserves a spanking to the ass, not a slap to the face :)
The main reason I loved Palpatine is because he was literally the puppet master of an ENTIRE galactic civilization. His intelligence must rival his power in the force. Hes not just some brute. Hes cold and calculating, just like thrawn.
+Zurie Pope I mean, Trade Federation and Emergency powers to deal with the threats is almost exactly the same as the Reich stag fire and its aftermath. Order 66 is like what +SpecOpsGaming mentioned, The night of long knives, and both obtaining absolute power to become emperor/fuhrer from the chancellor position.
Palpatine is my favourite character. The way he manipulates the situation to get exactly what he wants, those kind of mastermind villains are so awesome to me!
Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidius is probably one of the best and most underrated villains that exist. I mean, a magnificent character who was able to turn an unstable democracy into a ruthless authoritarian regime through economic manipulation (remember the Trade Federation started the embargo because of the high tariffs imposed by the Republic) and political intrigues. He is a marvellous analogy to Napoleon, Hitler and Julius Cesar. WIthout saying that Ian McDiarmid is a perfect actor for such role... By comparing this amazing story and plot of the prequels with this nonsense First Order of Disney's sequels and the Supreme Leader with Palpatine, they are pure rubbish!
Yea they're just making whatever sounds cool, they're not actually building a universe, they're just creating a setting for a story, which didn't turn out so well either, so the worldbuilding sucks, the plot, so now it's just a mess that I'm not considering Canon anymore, idc what Disney says it's all fiction anyways it's not like denying ww2 ever happened
This was one of the best aspects of the Prequels in my eyes! How it makes every event in the films manipulated from behind the scenes by Palpatine as if they were like pieces on a chessboard! It's a level of menace and suspense unlike any other, as the Jedi know that there's a greater threat than what appears on the surface, but do not figure out what exactly it is until it's far too late. Plus, people complain that the prequels are all about trade embargo's and tax disputes when in reality, they're all covers that Palpatine is using to put himself in a position of power so that he can create the empire and eradicate the Jedi. Say what you want about the prequels, but Ian McDiarmid's portrayal of Palpatine was amazing. Fantastic actor and you can really see him having fun while portraying the future Emperor.

apotheos1s The brought him in because he was the emperor in RotJ, his performance in that movie was better IMO.
He manufactured the war, the assassination attempt on Padme to bring Anakin and her together. He was evil beyond imagination.

And Snoke is NOT Darth Plaugies, despite How It Should Have Ended telling people otherwise. Fact, I stand with that decision the director said.
+TheAndersand2500
Shit I had never thought about this.

@Zach The prequels _are_ pretty objectively poor in many different aspects.

Brianthegreat Yes but Augustus, 1st emperor, was been a good ruler and good man. Palpatine is mad and evil, Hitler too.
Because they were brainwashed by the media, just like the people in the real world
By the time the Jedi were aware the man who had been running the Republic for a decade was the Sith Master they had been seeking, it was far too late.

This is why I will never accept the sequel trilogy. Rey did not do anything to deserve the right to end Palpatine, Anakin Skywalker will always the true saviour of the galaxy. He was there since the beginning when Palpatine took over, he fought with the victom of Palpatine rise power (the Jedi, the clones, etc)
He lead the clones that he cared for and his friends and the rest of galaxy.

Iknowmyabds5 jar jar voted to give Palpatine unlimited powers. This allowed Palpatine to authorise the use of the clone army who would later exterminate the Jedi.
TheDevious God dang. Never thought of it like that.
That and also the fact Jar Jar is very likely to be a Sith Lord and is in league with palpatine

The OT is awesome too right? Right?
Let's be honest. Though some people may prefer episode 4,5,6, we have to admit that the plot of the prequel has so much depth. Palpatine eliminating Sifo Dyas, starting the war from Naboo, rising to high chancellor, making sure that the jedi use clone troops and eventually destroying the jedi. This is one hell of a plan. It's almost ridiculous how this genius falls so easily by Luke and Anakin.

Not really. ALTHOUGH there were things that I liked from them such as the Emperor and exploring the Clone Wars. Watch the Nostalgia Critic's video. I actually agree with a lot of his points.
Watching palpatine manipulate things behind the scenes and putting together what he's doing is my favorite part of the prequels
Just like how Darth Bane envisioned it, that his legacy, his Sith, would one day rule the galaxy!

Harish Rabbani the OT is boring IMO.
Master Penguin all those criticisms you have of the prequels, I can clearly see them in the OT.
@@iloveyourgyatttt The Original Trilogy never had CGI and it never had any political scenes. Either way, the Original Trilogy had far better dialogue, character growth, and character development. To equate the two trilogies is the same as not having watched the Original Trilogy at all.

Me:
What's that republic? Is it a real thing or a fictional story?

Man just summed up the whole prequel trilogy in 8 minutes.
Yea they're just making whatever sounds cool, they're not actually building a universe, they're just creating a setting for a story, which didn't turn out so well either, so the worldbuilding sucks, the plot, so now it's just a mess that I'm not considering Canon anymore, idc what Disney says it's all fiction anyways it's not like denying ww2 ever happened
underrated?
This was one of the best aspects of the Prequels in my eyes! How it makes every event in the films manipulated from behind the scenes by Palpatine as if they were like pieces on a chessboard! It's a level of menace and suspense unlike any other, as the Jedi know that there's a greater threat than what appears on the surface, but do not figure out what exactly it is until it's far too late.
Plus, people complain that the prequels are all about trade embargo's and tax disputes when in reality, they're all covers that Palpatine is using to put himself in a position of power so that he can create the empire and eradicate the Jedi. He is the true definition of a master strategist, and would be a tough opponent to beat in a game of Chess (the entire galaxy was his board, and the characters were his pieces)!
