    In this brief Mike Mentzer reveals the method he employed to get his body fat levels down to between 3 and 6% over a six to twelve week period.
    If you are looking to lose body fat in time for summer, there is some valuable information here:
    * How to accurately assess how much fat you need to lose
    * How much body fat you can realistically expect to lose on a weekly basis
    * When to include aerobic exercise and how to combine it with your high-intensity weight training sessions
    * What percentage of your diet each macronutrient should be
    * Which aerobic exercise burns more calories per mile - bicycling or jogging?
    * How you should diet to lose fat
    * Do you have to give up cake and ice cream to lose fat?
    While it’s true that a reduced calorie diet and high-intensity training can lead to fat loss, if you’re looking to lose fat quickly and exclusively, Mike’s approach will get you there fast.

    From training 5/6 times per week, 3 sets of 10, 6-8 exercises… to once every 72 hours, 5 sets. I’ve been training like this for just over a year now. I’ve ‘cut’ (listening to Mike’s advice) for an upcoming holiday, and I’m in the best shape of my life!
    If you know and want to train hard, can THINK about your workouts and have the restraint of not being addicted to the gym, the HDHIT method is for you🥸
    Thanks for keeping the legacy alive, John. You’ve certainly changed my life!

      72 hours seems like a sweet spot for me as far as frequent enough for stimulus and infrequent enough for recovery.

    Quick question…..
    Will my tolerance for cardio pace increase (still have conversations) or do I just remain with the slow pace over the 6-8 weeks?

    • @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE
      @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE  Місяць тому +3

      Stay at a conversational pace if you want to burn body fat. If you up your pace, you’ll start burning predominantly glycogen for fuel.

    After listening to Mike and his philosophy i listened to atlas shrugged and fountainhead, and have listened lectures on leonard peikoff and i have come to wonder, if John Little has answer that i missed in those books and lectures.
    In Fountainhead its made clear that Peter Keiting originally wanted to go for artistic route, but was driven to architecture out of parental pressure. And Howard Roark lives and breathes architecture because he wanted to out of his own desire.
    Now my main question is that I have yet to find in any material yet, that is there a method for finding or discovering or deducing a career path that would resemble passion of Roark rather than vanity of Keiting.

    • @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE
      @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE  Місяць тому +1

      I suspect that the passion sets the course of the career (the pursuit of happiness/passion), or as Joseph Campbell put it “Follow your bliss. If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, doors will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.”

    Who here in the comments section can help me remember if Mike had a recommended daily intake of grams of protein per bodyweight? I know his belief was to have it make up 25% of macros and that extremely high protein was not necessary, but I'm trying to remember if he ever recommended an actual number of grams depending on your body weight. Who can help a brother out? 🙏

      2g per kilo of body weight is a sweet spot

    • @seuvagem1950
      @seuvagem1950 Місяць тому

      @@_7.8.6 I think that a beginner should note his actual daily intake of protein fist. 2 grams per kilo it's kind of a common sense, but it's considered the use of steroids? The protein synthesis of a hormonal enhanced person is different from a natural one. As a natural, I used to have 1 to 2 grams per day. Not that rigid and ruled diet. Hormonal enhanced used to have 2 grams as a base value, but can have until 4 grams or so.

    • @dextermorgan7764
      @dextermorgan7764 Місяць тому +5

      I have never heard him talk about actual numbers, just 25%

    • @MichaelLynchMusic
      @MichaelLynchMusic Місяць тому

      @@dextermorgan7764 Yeah, that's what I've been realizing too. I'm curious if protein intake is something he would have changed his mind on based on today's science though. He was spot on about the health and fitness industry pushing certain supplements solely for business purposes, but protein seems to be something that continues to be highlighted by modern data to be prioritized in a fairly high quantity. I wonder where Mike would stand on that today.

    • @BobFahrer-jb2kr

      In his book 'Heavy Duty Nutrition' he mentions that the RDA Committee recommends .80 g per kilo (for the average no workout man) He continues and calculates a max gain of 12 g of muscle a day (and more than 70 % of that is water anyway) In another section he says that it would be 1g of protein extra a day (not per kilo or pound, but just as 1 g more for the person)
      So you can stick to 0.80 g per kg and have one more bite of some protein source of your choice and you are covered.

      That’s not a problem, Mike says in his books and his videos that some people need longer recovery times, it’s all genetic and there is nothing wrong with that, take as many rest days as you need to continue adding more weight to the bar after each session

    • @algrundau9441
      @algrundau9441 Місяць тому +1

      @@iRx_ He is saying TRAIN every 4 days. So on a 3 way split it would take 12 days to cover the body.
      I personally found training 1 day on, with heavy weights and slightly more volume than Mike prescribed, 2 days off, so 10 days in a monthm on a half/half split the absolute best for Mass and Strength. Your results may differ.
      Keep in mind, that is for size and strength....NOT fat loss or trying to get ripped for summer.
      THAT can take a few different approaches. Good Luck.

    What if you reduce calories and don’t do cardio ?

    • @BobFahrer-jb2kr
      @BobFahrer-jb2kr Місяць тому +2

      According to his books, you can restrict by a maximum of 1000 kcal without going below 1200 kcal. Anything below 1200 kcal makes it almost impossible to get enough nutrition.

    • @algrundau9441
      @algrundau9441 Місяць тому +2

      @@BobFahrer-jb2kr According to Heavy Duty Journal he hovered around 1,500 but would dip down to 1,000.
      He also supplemented his...LOW VOLUME???...approach with 4 MILES of jogging in the morning and up to 10 MILES of bicycling in the evening...AND 30 minutes posing under the hot sun....All to compensate for his lower volume approach to training. Mike did MASSIVE amounts of cardio to peak for competition.
      There has to be. Mikes own words and pre-context strategies say so. There is no easy ride.

    • @BobFahrer-jb2kr

      @@algrundau9441 yes he did that, but he didn't recommend it to others, at least not for longer terms.
      As a younger person he also workout out with more focus on volume and more frequent training. Only later on he acquired more knowledge, because he was able to train a lot of people.
      You can absolutely lose weight with 1000kcal or less for sure, but be sure to eat the right things and don't extend it to some lone time. Or better said.. Listen to your body

    • @therockiscooking4119
      @therockiscooking4119 Місяць тому +2

      Even if you're doing 4 hours of running a day, you can still eat over maintenance and gain weight. The reason why Mike Mentzer did so much cardio specifically towards the end of his diet is because he needed to lose fat as quickly as possible before his contests. The average non-competitive bodybuilder doesn't need to do this much cardio or even any cardio at all to get shredded.

    • @therockiscooking4119
      @therockiscooking4119 Місяць тому +3

      If you are a natural non-steroid bodybuilder/weight lifter who is looking to gain or maintain as much muscle mass as possible it's actually recommended not to do so much cardio because cardio uses glycogen which is used to fuel your intense weight lifting sessions. In other words, if you do too much cardio on a diet you will get burned out very quickly and won't be able to train as efficiently during your lifting sessions.
