    Neat. I've always kept my fingers in a more curled position and almost always palm mute the fast picking because I prefer the muted tone over the open string.

      Personally, I use a few different techniques for “tremolo picking” but tremolo picking when used in black metal is intended to be open and un-muted, specifically for that tone.
      In contrast, you can play very fast alternate picking muted for a more speed metal approach but that’s honestly a different technique and a different style. It’s also very cool and I do that as well but not for tremolo picking.
      Thanks for sharing.

      That’s very kind of you to say, thank you. Sometimes I’m alright but most of the time I think I suck.😂 I love thrash and doom as well. Eventually we will all be playing doom as the arthritis sets in.

      Ah man, I hope that heals up well and your able to get back to thrashing or at least dooming. If I were to take a wild guess you have a fantastic Jackson guitar and are a thrash metal monster. And my crystal ball says your name starts with an,”M,” and it’s great to hear from you man and I hope you heal up soon.

    My mentality when it comes to tremolo picking, or rather any picking technique, is I have no limit to my abilities, I can always pick faster than the day before, and the older I get, the BETTER I get, not worse. Speaking specifically of trem picking, I use hefty picks, 2 mil or higher, from brands like swiss picks, V picks, and chicken picks, the last being the most valuable and secret weapons honestly they are made so well. It is like a turning motion, like opening a door, very little dart throwing motion for me, but my middle through pinky of my right hand, I play right handed, will either be kinda floating for easier passages, but the harder or faster something gets, they curl in like spiders legs OR I will even have them come behind the strings to mute the strings haha. I can demonstrate if anyone would like.

      These days I swear I get worse each day. :) At any rate, I fully agree firm picks are essential. I have been using these AWE IN ONE picks for the last few years and I love them. I am not sure I ma familiar with some of the picks you are mentioning but I would love to check them out. Do you have any links? You should make a video demonstrating the way you tremolo, I would be more than happy to see. Thanks for your comment!

      I feel this way a lot of times myself. I have found it easier to gain higher speeds when I practice in bursts. For example, you said you hit a wall at 180; try playing at 160 for several measures then jump to 180. Then start at 170 and jump to 190. I always jump back and forth a lot to achieve higher speeds. I am sure you have noticed that you don’t hold a pick the same way at 100 as you do at 180.
      “I have found that I cannot play fast, unless I can play fast.” So I have to practice to play at a level I can’t normally play at comfortably just to be able to play it comfortably. Another thing to try is different picks, and even different string tensions. I can play faster with more string tension than I can with less. I keep an array of different picks on my table and switch regularly and find I can play certain things better with different ones. Maybe some of these ideas can help. However, when you hit a wall, take a break and come back to it later. Sometimes less is more. At any rate, you’re not alone most of us think we suck; unless you’re Yngwie Malmsteen…🤣

    He’s playing on single strings. You can’t tremolo pick on 2-3 or more strings using this technique. It’s useless for black metal.

    • @Yourguitarchannelsucks
      @Yourguitarchannelsucks  6 місяців тому +1

      That’s not completely true. Numerous black metal bands tremolo pick on both single strings, as well as multiple strings. In this video, we are focusing on single strings. However, it would be a great idea to do another video showing tremolo picking on multiple strings from 2,3,4,5 and even six. And perhaps I’ll put together a video showing that. I was actually learning a 1349 song the other day and it has numerous sections where you tremolo pick on five strings at once. However, it also has sections in the song where they tremolo pick on single strings. At any rate, this video is very useful for doing single note tremolo picking which is useful to multiple genres of metal, including blackmetal. I only make videos in my spare time, but I will make a note of this, and perhaps in the future, I’ll drop another video of showing the other methods. Personally, when I tremolo pick on multiple strings, I use a heavily slanted pick technique ( and I could easily say when I do it becomes more a strumming technique than really tremolo. )Thanks for your comment.

      @@Yourguitarchannelsucks You got me wrong. Using this particular technique it’s almost impossible to tremolo pick 2 or more strings. When tremolo picking the speed comes from your wrist which shouldn’t be ‘locked’ plus you have control over the movement, speed, tempo etc. This technique is fine to tremolo pick one string. I’ve been playing BM for years and tried every possible technique, hand position, picks etc. For me anchoring little finger or ‘flying fingers’ works best but someone else may like to keep a hand on the bridge or make fist. However, using any of these techniques your wrist must be kept loose not locked. That’s the key to play tremolo like a boss😂. Just don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticising you. Just trying to share my experience.✌️

      Thank you for sharing your experience. I fully understand where you’re coming from now. And yes, I completely agree with you. The method in this video is specifically just for single string tremolo.
      When I do tremolo picking on two or more strings, I tend to do something that’s a bit of a hybrid between strumming and tremolo. I slant both my wrist and pick in a right angle and I use my wrist to strum at blitzkrieg speed to simulate a tremolo speed but it’s really a bit more like I’m strumming extremely fast punk music. At any rate, that’s how I do it on multiple strings and the two techniques are most certainly different. And I agree, it’s all in the wrist while strumming across multiple strings. However, it is worth mentioning when I tremolo pick on single strings, I do not lock my wrist either. But when I do multiple strings my wrist is a 100% loose. And even with doing all these various techniques for decades, I still suck.
      I will try to make more videos in the future showing these techniques. And feel free to send me videos as well. I’d love to see how you’re doing it.
