I created this channel as a way to stay motivated to play my guitar. I like Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Black Metal, Doom, Punk and World Music. This is a Metal Channel. In the past I played in the following bands and or projects: BUTCHERY, The Awakened One, AETHYRIA, The Inverted, Servants of Twilight, ZA LA THU, and Bozuk Duzen.
1349 - Atomic Chapel - Guitar & Tablature #49 BLACK METAL Tremolo Picking Exercise
This is a guitar cover or play-thourgh of atomic chapel by 1349.
I included the tablature so you can learn to play it. This song is a great lesson in various styles of tremolo picking, from single notes, to 3 string, to all 6. I am playing on an ESP LTD SN-1000 EverTune loaded with a Seymour Duncan Pegasus, straight into HX Stomp.

Great job. I played in Warwound with Damian from Sacrilege and we played this song. He played the main riff on an open A but it sounds great how you played it.
Hails, Thank you for sharing this information with me. I always thought it seemed a little off. Do you know what his other strings were tuned to? I’m guessing he must’ve been in drop A. Again , thank you for your comment and thank you for sharing. I’ll have to check out your band as well.🤘🤘🤘 Are you guys still playing?
@@Yourguitarchannelsucks If I remember rightly Sacrilege tuned to C standard. I will ask Damian though. Warwound played up until the covid and we haven't picked it up again. We recorded two Sacrilege songs, one being Lifeline. Check them out they are on here.

I genuinely appreciate your support, thank you. I had to work hard to pull that song off. They really are an incredibly intense band. And the speed of their tremolo picking is otherworldly. I actually learned a lot by learning this song. I wish my single note tremolo was as fast as theirs. Those guys are possessed. 🤘🤘🤘 thanks for watching.
Much respect bro! this band is very fierce hyper intense black metal
Yeah, I still need to get the single note tremolo parts a little faster. That band maintains a phenomenal speed that is hard to hold on to. Thanks for watching. 1349 Rules🤘

Can you cover watch it burn by dr know I can’t find tabs or a good video to watch to learn it 🙏🙏🙏
I can’t promise anything, but I’ll put it on the list and if I have time, sure. Sometimes I use a Tascam riff trainer, it lets me slow down the song but keep the pitch at the normal pitch. It’s useful for learning songs by ear. I’m sure there’s other software that allows you to do that these days. For these old punk songs just use a simple scale to find the notes. I’m glad someone even remembers DR. Know, fun stuff. Anyway, thanks for watching.
Nice riffing, keep it up mate !
Thanks for watching! All hail Obliveon 🤘🤘🤘
Thought it was all down strokes
You can play it either way you want. I saw a live video of Discharge from 5 years ago and the guitarist was using both alternating and downstroke picking. So honestly it really doesn’t matter. If you want to play it with only downstrokes then play it that way. It’s very simple music and it really doesn’t matter. You can also play it in various tunings and keys.
Nice

Holy shit, there's an Effigy of the Forgotten pedal?!
Yep, there sure is. The pedal is designed to sound like that old Ampeg VH-140C amplifier they used in the old days. However, it is worth mentioning that these days they primarily use Peavy amplifiers, maxon tube screamers, and DiMarzio super distortion pickups. As for the pedal, it’s not bad. I was using it on the clean channel of my Laney AOR. It also blends well with my tube screamer and my haunting mids. In fact, I really enjoy hitting the front end of it with my tube screamer and using my haunting mids to boost the Mids in the effects loop. The pedal on its own is cool, it has a boxy sound to it. 🤘🤘🤘
Any use for pop music of the 80s like Prince, Heart etc? :)
Well it’s obviously way more fun to play Morbid Angel on an Ironbird. However, both Miko Weaver of Prince had a BC Rich as did Nancy Wilson of Heart.
@@Yourguitarchannelsucks cool, thanks man!
How to play the solo ?
I was only trying to make a beginner level video. As far as the rhythm goes you can play it either alternate picking, or straight down picking. You can also play this song differently and in different tunings and still maintain the gist of the song. For example, check out the drop C# cover version “Anthrax - Protest and Survive.” You can also see the tablature for everything they are doing including the solo at “songster.” What’s great about looking at this version is at Songster you can slow down the measures and learn each part at your own speed. It also includes the rhythm and lead sections. Another method is take the original song and slow it down with software and learn the solo at a much slower speed by ear.
Nice! How did you record this obviously this is not raw hehe. Daw, video editor, How is the process? audio video syncing.. Im new in guitar video recording. Thanks!
It’s all technically “LIVE” and more “RAW” than you might imagine. At any rate, I have utilized several different methods of making videos on my channel. I will describe a few of the methods below, including the way I made this video. I will describe the way the majority of my “play through” videos are made. This will be completely different then the way I record multi-track music or record albums etc. The 1st method I have used on my channel is the mysterious 100% phone method. You can see me use that method on most of my early videos. For example, the “Kreator - Betrayer,” video.” In that video, I literally put my phone on a camera stand pointed it at me and hit record. In that method the sound and video was recorded all at once. The trick to recording that way is to turn the volume on your monitors up and down until you find the right level before recording, make sure you are not peaking. I would do a few tests to see how well the phone was picking up the audio. Once you find the right level that allows you to hear everything at a fairly decent level, you simply hit record and that’s it. Obviously that method does not produce the best audio quality, but many times it can be way better than you might imagine, especially when doing it in a room that is acoustically treated. Regardless, on all the early videos on my channel that’s all I did and then edited with iMovie, all on my phone. Super simple. The 2nd method - In the 2nd method, I continued to use my phone for the video but I wanted my audio to be clearer. So therefore, I plugged my guitar directly into my HELIX, then plugged it into my TASCAM external digital recorder, DP - 32SD, ( very old technology ). My Tascam is connected to my JBL powered monitors. Then I would pick a song I wanted to learn, and I would upload the song into my Tascam recorder and put it on a stereo track. This would be the same as someone using an “interface with a modern pc” and loading a song into any of the many different DAW programs that exist. The song will be on a stereo track. Then I would arm another track and input my guitar signal via the HELIX. Next, hit the play button and adjust the level between my guitar signal and the song I am doing a “play-though” of. Essentially set the mix so that when I make the video, the audio will be at a proper level as to hear both my guitar as well as the original recording. Next, I arm a 3rd track that has a microphone input going into it. This track will be used for capturing an important CLAP CLICK sound. Alright, once that has been done a very important step happens. I click RECORD on my phone and then click RECORD on my Tascam recorder. Now, the video is recording and the external audio recorder is recording. Next, I CLAP my hand one or two times and say abracadabra. The clap is recorded both on my video recording and on my Tascam recorder. This CLAP will be used later to align the audio recording from the Tascam with the video recording from the phone. After the clap, within a few seconds the song will start and I will “play-through” the song. Keep in mind this is not a “COVER,” this is a “Play-Through”. Regardless, my guitar track becomes part of the audio mix and I only record myself once. I do not go back and do any editing. When the song is done, I mix it down to a stereo track. I then IMPORT the file from my Tascam into my MACBOOK. I also import the video file into my MACBOOK. Once I have both files in my computer, I would open iMOVIE and I would align the 2 files based on the CLAP that was recorded on each file. This clap is visible on the audio wave. I would then delete the videos “audio” file and use the higher quality audio file of my Tascam. Once the 2 are aligned you can simply save the new file to whatever file format you like. I did the “Obituary” and the “Obliveon - Chronocraze” video this way. I did several videos this way. The next thing I learned was how to add all the cool tablature across the bottom of the screen. And if you look through my “play though” playlist you will find that nearly all of my current videos include the tablature across the bottom of the screen. *Important footnotes to this method* frame rates on phones are not always consistant, which can cause sync issue and alignment drift through out the video. The video might be in sync with both video and audio in the beginning, but by the end of the video it will be off. Things would start off nicely but slowly turn into a 1970’s Kung Foo movie. This is what led me to my next method. The 3rd method - At this point, I decided to start using my old Fujifilm XE-3 camera to record the video because the frame rate on my fuji was way more consistent than the frame rate on my phone which seemed to fluctuate and cause drift. I continued using my Tascam recorder for the audio. I recorded many videos this way such as Gorguts, Suffocation and Pan Thy Monium. Each time I would make a video, I would learn something new. I was also still using iMovie but I wanted something better. Therfore, when I did the video “Butchery - The Last Supper,” I tried a new program called Filmora. It allowed me to be able to do a lot more editing of the videos. I personally do not like editing and would prefer to have things as easy as possible, which leads me to the way I am now doing things. The 4th method - On the last 3 video I posted, Pestilence - Deify Thy Master, …and Oceans - Cosmic World Mother, and “A Black Metal Chord Progression.” I used a Nikon ZF camera. I did everything very differently. I plugged my Tascam straight into the camera, everything was recorded on the camera all at once without having to do anything after. All the video and audio was recorded at once and all on the same file. It made it all a thousand times easier. Then I would simply import the video to my computer and add the tablature etc. and then upload it to UA-cam. My advice would be…. Consider learning to use your phone to its fullest potential. Check out that Kreator video, it was literally only the phone. I did numerous videos that sounded very good that way. If you want to join the world of cameras, the Nikon Z30 would be a great affordable option. You can also consider older Fuji cameras, as they can be had at a great price point. If you do not have any external recorders, Tascam makes many cheap options or if you are interested in a DAW, Reaper is free. Presonus is also a rather decent DAW program but it cost money. I typically don’t use DAWS because I am old and I like my old Tascam. If you don’t use MAC, Windows also has a free movie maker very similar to iMovie and equally as limiting but they are not a bad start. And although I am currently using Filmora, I think their company sucks. So that’s essentially what I do in a “PLAY- THROUGH”. I currently just click record and play from beginning to end and if I fuck up, I either start over or I say fuck it and leave the mistake in it. Now, if I am playing something I actually wrote then obviously I’m playing multiple tracks, and it is a much different process. I do have a few videos on here in which I am playing my own music. For all of that music I just use my multi-track Tascam recorder for everything. It is a very basic recorder. Like me, very basic and straight forward. I do not copy, and paste nor do I do much of any editing at all. I just click record and play my parts correctly or not and move forward. Some of the recording projects I have done are ZA LA THU , Aethyria and various other projects . Once upon a time, back in ’92 I was in a death metal band called Butchery and we recorded on this cutting edge stuff called ADAT. It was tape but it was digital, and we all thought WOW. :) I hope this answers your question.
Thanks Sir! It really helps and gives me an idea, thanks for the info. Btw, I know this is recorded Live, what I mean by raw is its not the typical easy low quality recording (on your cp and record everything, playing guitar with backing tracks and record all at once captured by the phone. And edit by croping by phone only) Thanks again!

More orbituary lesson pls 😊
That’s a phantasmic idea ! 🤘 I’ll put that on the list. Thanks for watching.
Its been 2 years im stuck at 180 bpm its frustrating and make me wanna quit playing
I feel this way a lot of times myself. I have found it easier to gain higher speeds when I practice in bursts. For example, you said you hit a wall at 180; try playing at 160 for several measures then jump to 180. Then start at 170 and jump to 190. I always jump back and forth a lot to achieve higher speeds. I am sure you have noticed that you don’t hold a pick the same way at 100 as you do at 180. “I have found that I cannot play fast, unless I can play fast.” So I have to practice to play at a level I can’t normally play at comfortably just to be able to play it comfortably. Another thing to try is different picks, and even different string tensions. I can play faster with more string tension than I can with less. I keep an array of different picks on my table and switch regularly and find I can play certain things better with different ones. Maybe some of these ideas can help. However, when you hit a wall, take a break and come back to it later. Sometimes less is more. At any rate, you’re not alone most of us think we suck; unless you’re Yngwie Malmsteen…🤣

He’s playing on single strings. You can’t tremolo pick on 2-3 or more strings using this technique. It’s useless for black metal.
That’s not completely true. Numerous black metal bands tremolo pick on both single strings, as well as multiple strings. In this video, we are focusing on single strings. However, it would be a great idea to do another video showing tremolo picking on multiple strings from 2,3,4,5 and even six. And perhaps I’ll put together a video showing that. I was actually learning a 1349 song the other day and it has numerous sections where you tremolo pick on five strings at once. However, it also has sections in the song where they tremolo pick on single strings. At any rate, this video is very useful for doing single note tremolo picking which is useful to multiple genres of metal, including blackmetal. I only make videos in my spare time, but I will make a note of this, and perhaps in the future, I’ll drop another video of showing the other methods. Personally, when I tremolo pick on multiple strings, I use a heavily slanted pick technique ( and I could easily say when I do it becomes more a strumming technique than really tremolo. )Thanks for your comment.
@@Yourguitarchannelsucks You got me wrong. Using this particular technique it’s almost impossible to tremolo pick 2 or more strings. When tremolo picking the speed comes from your wrist which shouldn’t be ‘locked’ plus you have control over the movement, speed, tempo etc. This technique is fine to tremolo pick one string. I’ve been playing BM for years and tried every possible technique, hand position, picks etc. For me anchoring little finger or ‘flying fingers’ works best but someone else may like to keep a hand on the bridge or make fist. However, using any of these techniques your wrist must be kept loose not locked. That’s the key to play tremolo like a boss😂. Just don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticising you. Just trying to share my experience.✌️
@@Kassapu Thank you for sharing your experience. I fully understand where you’re coming from now. And yes, I completely agree with you. The method in this video is specifically just for single string tremolo. When I do tremolo picking on two or more strings, I tend to do something that’s a bit of a hybrid between strumming and tremolo. I slant both my wrist and pick in a right angle and I use my wrist to strum at blitzkrieg speed to simulate a tremolo speed but it’s really a bit more like I’m strumming extremely fast punk music. At any rate, that’s how I do it on multiple strings and the two techniques are most certainly different. And I agree, it’s all in the wrist while strumming across multiple strings. However, it is worth mentioning when I tremolo pick on single strings, I do not lock my wrist either. But when I do multiple strings my wrist is a 100% loose. And even with doing all these various techniques for decades, I still suck. I will try to make more videos in the future showing these techniques. And feel free to send me videos as well. I’d love to see how you’re doing it.

I’m bummed that this year’s models went with such plain colors.
I still have this guitar and I really love the tone of it and I love the paint job. However, I’m considering getting it pleked because I still have various set up issues with buzzing etc., but I love the sound and look so much that I’m about positive I’m going to get mine pleked in the very near future. If you do buy one of these guitars; - my advice is to make sure you have a great return policy because I have recently purchased 3 guitars from esp Ltd and each one has had some inconsistency’s with the frets and 2 have had some wiring issues. Anyway, this is still one of my favorite guitars so I plan on making it perfect soon. So just make sure you check your frets and do a full inspection when and if you buy one. Quality Control is-not what it once was. And i agree they need more wild colors! 🤘 thanks for the comment

So far in this "specific" guitar I have tried the Carvin Holdsworth pickups (horrible), DiMarzio X2N and Dimarzio Super 2 combo, and I did try a Dimarzio Tone Zone. I still have not found the best pickups for this "specific" guitar. The problem is this guitar is insanely bright and nasal. It is a maple neck through design with an ebony fingerboard and glued on alder sides( 25" scale") . I own another version of this guitar ( same construction ) that is all Mahogany and it sounds 1000 times better. So , I have been fighting the frequencies of this one for nearly a year. I will be installing a Dimarzio Super 3 into the bridge as my next attempt. So far, I think the Tone Zone may have been the best. It got rid of all the thin, bright, nasal garbage and thickened everything up but the Tone Zone didn't have the overall character that I prefer. After I try the Super 3, I may just sell the guitar, it depends on how it goes. I know those Carvin fans love to over pay for these guitars, so I might just have to drop it onto Reverb. # it is soo bright it blinds your ears. The current set of strings are the Gary Holt Toxic Rocks 52,42,30,16,11,9 and I'm tuned D Standard. I also installed a Jeff Loomis Stone Tone block on the Floyd. Each thing I have done has made the guitar sound better but it's still too bright. Is your Soloist a neck through design or a Bolt on?
@@Yourguitarchannelsucks Both Jackson's are X series, and neck thru. Honestly I prefer bolt on. I'm seeing a common theme of DiMarzio pickups. I have 2 guitars that have DiMarzio in them. I recently acquired via trade a Jake Bowen Titan model that I think is one of the ugliest guitars I've ever laid eyes on but from a sound and feel perspective, absolute riff machine and monster. It has Titan pickups in it and they are KILLER. I also have a Xiphos that has a DeActivator in the bridge and I hate it. Next string change I'm swapping it out with a Seymour Duncan Pegasus that I have. The look may not be for everyone but you may want to consider soldering on some pickup covers on whatever pickup you try next to try and suck out some of that brightness.
@@thrashnbash314 I prefer the tone of a bolt on as well. I like neck-through body guitars but only when the neck is made of mahogany. I have been told many times to try the Titans and maybe I should. As for the Dimarzio Deactivator pickups, I had them in an all mahogany 7 string and they sounded perfect and I loved them, but I don't like the way they sound in maple neck-through guitars at all. Now, as for that Seymour Duncan Pegasus you are about to install - a few weeks ago I bought a ESP LTD SN-1000 with a Pegasus and I straight up LOVE that pickup. It is extremely clear and articulate. It is perfect for traditional heavy metal and power metal, and I personally believe it is my new hidden gem for BLACK METAL. Literally all my black metal riffs sound so good on that pickup. Bare in mind I have that pickup installed in a alder body, maple neck, bolt on - super Strat type guitar with an evertune bridge. I am also tuned in E standard. I have heard that the Pegasus was originally designed for 7 and 8 string guitars and excels at low tunings - I have not tried it that way but so far I really love that pickup. I would also say it is a bright pickup but it has great tone. Is the Xiphos a Maple neck through? I had thought those guitars were mahogany neck through. Is yours a 6 string or 7? My experience with the Deactivators in my long lost Carvin 7 string "all Honduran Mahogany" was nothing but praise. However, over the years I have come to realize that a lot of pickups out there only sound good in certain styles of constructions or wood. I have played identical guitar builds but made out of different woods with the exact same electronics and they sound literally nothing a like. So, in the end you never know for sure what will work in a certain situation. Keep me informed about your Pegasus experience, I'm curious how it works out for you. I was such a fan of that Pegasus that I put some laser etched pegasus knobs on the guitar.

Hey Chris, I hope you all are having a nice holiday. As for the colors, it wasn't originally intended to be on purpose. However, it worked perfectly. The shirt is the album cover from a Pestilence album that the song I'm playing is from. It was a death metal album I listen to a lot when I was young. I hope you are doing well.
Glad to see you post again! I will definitely watch tomorrow!☠️
Hope you enjoy! Thanks!
OLD SCHOOL RULES👹🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yeah, that's some of my favorite stuff. I bought that album on cassette in 1989, I was 14 years old. It has been one of my all time favorite death metal albums since that time. It's just perfection.
Very nice, productive weekend!!! CMC!!
Yeah, it has not been too bad. Thanks for checking in! CMC !
This is absolutely killer. Well done bro! For me Consuming was Pestilence' finest hour.
Thanks for watching man! And, I absolutely agree, 'Consvmming Impulse' is one of the most perfect examples of what Death Metal was truly really meant to be - unhinged, raw and brutal.
My mentality when it comes to tremolo picking, or rather any picking technique, is I have no limit to my abilities, I can always pick faster than the day before, and the older I get, the BETTER I get, not worse. Speaking specifically of trem picking, I use hefty picks, 2 mil or higher, from brands like swiss picks, V picks, and chicken picks, the last being the most valuable and secret weapons honestly they are made so well. It is like a turning motion, like opening a door, very little dart throwing motion for me, but my middle through pinky of my right hand, I play right handed, will either be kinda floating for easier passages, but the harder or faster something gets, they curl in like spiders legs OR I will even have them come behind the strings to mute the strings haha. I can demonstrate if anyone would like.
These days I swear I get worse each day. :) At any rate, I fully agree firm picks are essential. I have been using these AWE IN ONE picks for the last few years and I love them. I am not sure I ma familiar with some of the picks you are mentioning but I would love to check them out. Do you have any links? You should make a video demonstrating the way you tremolo, I would be more than happy to see. Thanks for your comment!
There is live footage of me in my band Giger in Athens Georgia, with many closeups, but I will try to make one for here as well. @@Yourguitarchannelsucks

Hell yeah, thanks man. I also keep forgetting to do an Amebix video. 🤘
@@Yourguitarchannelsucks that will be sick man. 😎Always like the intro on Sunshine Ward 🤘
One of best death/grind song ever.
I agree a 100%
pickup?
Bare knuckle Warpig P-90 ( humbucker sized P-90) also known as the Pig90. It is different than the regular Warpig. By the way it is super hot. I’m using a complete set, along with cts 550k pots and a paper oil capacitor all bought direct from bare knuckle. It was expensive.
@@Yourguitarchannelsucks thanks!
