    ABOUT CHICAGO FIRE
    "Chicago Fire" - an edge-of-your-seat view into the lives of everyday heroes committed to one of America's noblest professions. The firefighters, rescue squad and paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51 risk their lives week in and week out to save and protect the citizens of their incredible city. With big reputations and hefty egos, the pressure to perform and the adrenaline rush of the job is bound to have an effect on these modern heroes. Friendship, rivalry, marriage, divorce, fighting, hidden romance -- sometimes it's hard to keep it totally professional. When it's "go-time," though, they put their differences aside and put everything on the line for each other.

    Gotta stop the bleeding somehow... I am not hating on the show when I say this, but I don't think anyone could do that IRL, I know I would not have the guts to fix a wound like that. Love the show lol

      Well, it's nicer if the patient is out cold, but the technique is rather common. What makes me think is that this was only cauterizing the wound on the surface, whereas the bleed source was rather deep within. And in the abdomen, using heat like this to seal the wound is a bad idea. Frankly, they should've left the piece of metal in until help arrives...

      @@Rabascan Agreed, although the metal piece could be contaminating him and it could move around. Once it's out, they had to stop the bleeding - it would have been better to apply some sort of clamp to stem the bleed. Then again, she went in with unlikely sterilized tweezers.

    • @Rabascan
      @Rabascan 5 років тому +8

      @@boringperson-zb8vy At that stage, contamination isn't the biggest issue - it's not a chunk of RBMK Graphite, after all. You've got to focus on preserving life, and that means critical bleeding, breathing, temperature, the works. Not removing something sticking in the wound in the field. That's a biiiig No-No.

      It's called cauterising the wound. Usually used on heavy/uncontrollable nosebleeds when first aid methods fail. That was painful, but doctors have to prioritise life over pain - unless a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) order has been signed by the patient prior to the incident.

    • @Firan25
      @Firan25 3 роки тому

      Doctors (from what I know.) can use any method they deem fit to save someone. Of course for the more relatively harmful procedure like cauterizing, i'm sure they have to ask permission before doing it.

    I haven't seen this episode but WHY ARE THEY REMOVING SOMETHING FROM A VICTIM. YOU LEAVE IT IN UNTIL THEY GET TO THE ER AND LET THE SURGEON TAKE IT OUT. Exactly because they will BLEED OUT. This show is starting to frustrate me with some of the major inaccuracies they present, especially well known ones like this. It seemed like they did a better job when the show first started out, or maybe I'm just paying more attention now.

      You have to watch this episode from the very beginning to understand why Brett and Foster had to remove the object right at that moment. Don't want to give anything away, but given the circumstances and the urgency of the situation,and also the fact that Foster has advanced medical school training made it obvious to remove it.

    This is confusing. Foster kicked out the glass of the bus drivers window and made it a harder job to get everyone out. Why not just break the windshield? That would have made it easier to move in and out of the bus, and could have gotten some kids out sooner. I am 14 and I realized they made a huge mistake that could have cost someone their lives, if this was reality.
