war without reason is a good song though tbh
edit: I know it's not like, the actual requiem leitmotif, but i think it sounds very similar. this is for you folks saying it's not the leitmotif. because uh.. you're right! i dont think it is either.

Literally the entire violence layer treats the requim motif like it's the amen break and just sprinkles it everywhere. I think it appears in every single level.
Which begs the question why? I mean lore wise.
the Requiem motif seems to be a symbol for tragedy, with how we hear it first with Lust/Minos paired with how his city and rule failed, then with Greed/Sisyphus paired with how his insurrection failed, and a lot of Violence is about the tragedy that was the Final War and what happened to everyone in the labyrinth so it's natural it'd be there a bunch too
@@ivy_magnapinnaOne theory is that it's actually Humanity's motif as a whole.
@@ivy_magnapinna There is of course also literally the minotaur, who is directly associated with the myth of Minos. Minos was said to have exiled the Minotaur to a labyrinth under the city, much like how Violence is a labyrinth sitting beneath Heresy's city of Dis
The Requiem motif is the motif representing humanity, and because humanity's acts of violence were great enough to inspire hell itself, this is mankind's legacy
the lust layer was a representation of the good in humanity. love, selflessness, hospitality...
while violence represents that it's still humanity, with a constant war going around the first circle, trees made of suicide victims in the second and the third housing what humanity has built that almost caused their own extinction.

This song also contains the glory motif and uses the same lead instrument as hall of the sacrilegious remains, one of the parts is pretty reminiscent of panic betrayer. Pretty cool ost
that’s why it sounded familiar jeez
Danse Macabre is another reprise of Panic Betrayer/Death Odyssey, and Bull of Hell has part of WAR in it.
@@xshullaw literally _why_ would Bull of Hell have War in it, it's not the Sisytaur
@@uncroppedsoop i like to think that if minos had an effect on sisyphus (which we know he had due to sisyphus monologue), sisyphus probably had an effect to the lower layers like violence, fraud, etc. Also, if sisyphus knew the p3 boss, that alone would make sisyphus have a great impact on the p3 boss and the bosses layer.

The truth is it's not requiem, war without reason hangs on notes in this more than requiem. Notes in requiem may be similar but it's not the same leitmotiv. Absolutely it does sound similar and evoke a similar feeling, but they're not the same song.
Weird because i never thought this leitmotiv was requiem, when people pointed out similarities, i was like the notes are clearly different, not all sad song are the same
Yep. The requiem motif has not showed up in a single song from the Violence ost, and people are theory crafting on it like it's 100% confirmed.

It sounds like the part of "Hear! The Siren Song Call of Death" (1 min, 15 secs in) and "Do Robots Dream of Eternal Sleep" (28 secs in, sped up by 1.5x). I think this is the leitmotif for the Act's Prime Soul.
I dont hear those, but it could just be a little theme for the earthmovers in general, as they are prominent in both of those levels
(7-3 does have an earthmover, but its far away and not the focus unlike in the other two, so im not gonna count it)
Really good that we have alot of requiem motifs(in my opinion) because thats, probably, my favorite music of the whole ost

@@snwoop7921 it doesn't respect tradition since it's not a book, but most people have theorized that it _could_ be a slight hint of what we might see in the next two layers ("king something"), or it could just mean "hell itself"
@@matex_e was gonna say "pretty weird for hell itself to give a gift to a dude" then i remembered that the dude in question was disgusted by the gift so that tracks
for the book thing, i think either a) it just happens in fraud/treachery or b) we're not gonna get a book but still see the legacy of a ruler (tracks with current prime souls (to be exact, im talking about corpse of minos and the insurs, so specifically what happened when said rulers died)) or c) some wild card with like, "machines have souls" (i REALLY dont like to think about that, namely because of "swordsmachine prime!!!!!" but given violence revelations that most if not every machine has some level of biomass to it, and that theyre all sentient in some way (known since prelude), i wouldnt discount it.)

Musical motifs is really what ties a good soundtrack together.
i think he uses the requiem leitmotif so much just because of how hard it goes
Ok few things i wnet back and listened to requiem almost same chords but not really no really fast rising and descending arpeggios
Not the same notes
One definite resemblance is the guitar tone which isn't much cuz its used in many songs more than order requiem and on and on and.....
There's a lot of "almost motifs"
In violence ost That you have to have the ears for it so I don't think it's a direct nod to the motif but i have to sit and listen to see what i can find
It's so wierd so "war without reason"motif which starts at the point when you grapple to the gold grapple point in the level or the second phase of the song a minute in
It sounds like the chords of the first like 2 bars (don't take me litteral im a beginner at learning music theory but i know a the jist of it to find the chords and stuff) of the requiem motif but it doesn't follow the motif after that it just repeats those chords
I think that's deliberate from hakita but i don't think it's a direct nod it's a broken down shorter requiem repeating
(It's a motif of it's own for short of what im trying to get at)
Ok not 2 bars 8 bars the entire motif is 16 bars repeated twice
16 bars regular 16 bars with harmony so 1/4 of the requiem motif has the same chord progression with war without reason 2nd phase
Ok never mind the more i listen to it the more i find
War without reason is its own motif it has a lil resemblance to requiem but not a direct nod they are really different
The amount of reaching this community is making extends further than the grapple arm's range.
Hakita makes one tweet and a meme is born, awesome

Ultrakill players when leitmotif in a song:
I feel like its not the Requiem motif. The example here is more of a tribute than a direct motif. So it has a similar melodic structure as Requiem but its not the same. Just like the contours of the motif and this example are quite similar.
agreed
@@BirbCo1 thank you, I could keep going and say that the piano motif in "Hear, The siren song call of death" is a tribute melody to "Sands of Tide" with the similar contours again, but that's a stretch. It's definitely the Prime soul Motif tho.
yes
Order and Requiem are the best ost of ultrakill (IMO)
ultrakill fans when they hear a leitmotif
I just like to call it the "Minos piano", i don't want to throw Requiem/Glory motif around
Me and my friend figured out that it may very well be humanity’s leitmotif, since it plays in one of the last human cities, and on the Earthmover, and that’s why it would be in this level.
We are so glad that other people hear it too and we’re not just insane-
It's in 7-3 too
Act 3 v2 looking fire so far
There’s no requiem motif, if you have taken one class of music theory you would know this. This is a completely different song with a completely different melody, there’s no hidden meaning or anything, people will just hear the same instruments or a melancholic theme and think it’s the “requiem” melody because they are desperate for more Minos for some reason
they want his rod of lust probably
This was so hard to p-rank
WHY I HEAR ORDER AND REQUIEM EVERYWHERE. AAAAAAAA
he looks like naboris from zelda
War without reason first part sounds like Subway Surfers theme. Foreshadowing to 7-S?
the song sounds like subway surfers
i believe that this is because minos is... fuck it its just a good song.
yeah
I believe it's because requiem represents tragedy, and violence is the tragedy of man's own downfall, and this motif remains, showing that their legacy will only be remembered for causing their own downfall, and dooming themselves with their war machines.

hearing people say its an ORDER/Requiem leitmotif annoys me greatly, I don't even care whether or not it actually is. I mean, if it is, then why? What does this random robo centaur have to do with Minos? Their isn't any logical reason why it would reference Minos' tracks.
IMO, It's just the motif of the Violence layer itself, since this same melody is present is some form throughout all the levels.
ultrakill fans tend to hear or see things that don't make any sense, especially in terms of motifs/leitmotifs. They try really hard to convince themselves that it was intentional and that its the truth but all it ends up doing is making them look completely crazy in the eyes of anyone with ears functional enough to tell that these are completely different melodies
I just made this video for shits and giggles but some people actually made really good analysis in the replies of some of the other comments (for requiem, not order)
like if u just look at the top comment I think there are some
I find it makes sense because Lust Requiem's motif represents the tragedy of lust, and thus, by extension, man themselves in hell. Violence's Requiem Motif represents the tragedy of everybody above, on earth, having driven themselves to their own dooms with these machines they made. It's the tragedy of the masses.
@@uningenious Yeah, but that's a very far stretch. Now that I've listened to the full Violence OST, the "Requiem" "motif" everybody hears is just the motif of Violence, it's present in 7-1, 7-3, and of course 7-4. I'm surprised people don't bring up how close this is to Gabriel's theme actually. When playing both melodies together, they harmonize perfectly and form a melancholic chord progression.
