There is a theory going around about V1 being made to counter earthmovers (Just like how gilberts (guttermen) countered trench-warfare, guttertanks countered gilberts and benjamins countered the last two), V1 is fast, nimble, and small, perfect to perform a precision strike inside benjamins (and thus, counters them), the reason as to why the benjamin was willing to waste a lance shot at you at the beginning is that it thought it was lucky to spot you and considered you as a huge threat. I like to think that, throughout the entire fight, Benjamin's thought could only be resumed by "SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FU-"

i actually did some noclipping into that "brain." there's organic tissue in there alright. If you look at it from the top down, you can even see the individual hemispheres.
